It is possible, it doesn't just happen often. Such stuff happens once in a Blue Moon. Oluh: I feel the guy is cruising us. He had 2,2 with full funding, scholarship and with no exams done. That seems unreal. |

Good Day Bro, Congrat. Have been sending messages to you through nairaland but have yet to get a reply from you sure you are busy and get a lot of messages through this platform. I plan to apply to Colorado State University for Spring 2022 semester, need your help and advice, here is my profile B. Eng Electrical and Electronics Engineering - 3.8/5.0, Wes - 3.27/4 GRE - v-147, q -157, awa- 3.0 Didn't write Tofel/IELTS. Kindly give your candid advice, if this is okay or I should get a better score in GRE or/and sit Tofel/IELTS. Thanks in anticipation. BS. Anyone can give their advice also Schrodinger1: Long Post Over the past weeks, I have been more than delighted seeing a 100% visa approvals from all those that I was privileged to have been engaged with in their F1 Visa mock exercise albeit some did not come here to share their transcripts. It was fascinating to have spent those times with you. Congratulations guys! More wins await you all.
In addition, I personally derived this somewhat, naturally induced self-confidence and the can-do-spirit with the news of your successes, that despite my 2 previous refusals at the Lagos Consulate, I knew I had what it takes to change the narrative at my third consecutive appointment in Lagos with the Almighty by my side.
NOTE: I am not God that gives visa approvals neither am I a professional VO that has worked at the embassy before. I only try to directly impact your preparation positively if I happen to have the chance to prepare with you.
Having arrived at the embassy at exactly 6:55am, I immediately joined the queue that was moving into the screening hall. After the checks, we waited in this hall for about 2hrs before entering the main interview hall were biometrics and finger capturing were done at around 8:25am. Two VO's on duty, a Black American lady in window 2 and a White American Man in window 5. The white man was dishing out pink paper with little remorse. I quickly observed that I was interviewed by him in December 2019, my second refusal. Partially, I started blaming myself for not going to Abuja while still in the queue. My wish was to be interviewed by the Black Lady which didn't come true. A vast majority of those unfunded didn't get approval in his window, window 5. You hardly spend 2mins in his window. The moment he sees you're funded and heading for probably a research focused program, he'd approve your visa. Most often than not, he doesn't ask beyond the same 3 questions if you have been fully funded. The other Lady would delay and eventually refuse an application. Generally, they were far more refusals than otherwise.
The Full Transcript!
VO: Good morning, pass me I-20 and passport. Me: Good morning sir. This is it. (He immediately glanced on the financial section of my I-20 and started typing)
VO: what is your study plan and where are you going?
Me: I am going to study for my Masters program in Electrical Engineering at Colorado State University. I will be focusing on my research area in Radar Communications Systems and Networks. I will be taking a minimum of 9 credits of Thesis and 21 credits of regular course work spread within 4 semesters in 2years. I will be wrapping up my studies with a final oral examination. My courses are Satellite Communications, Information Theory, Digital Signal Pro... ( VO: Don't tell me about your courses, I don't need it).
VO: What is your plan after study?
Me: I will return home to work as a researcher with NigComSat or the Nigerian Communications Commission, where I hope to be involved the collaboration between NCC and SpaceX in the deployment of starlink satellite Internet services, a project that is likely to commence in 2023 and would end in 2027. In the long term, I would take up a lecturing role in my alma mater, this degree is a step towards achieving that, as well as setting up my own research institute here in Nigeria.
VO: I'll be approving your visa and brings out the white paper.... I said thank you with a huge smile/laughter on my face but covered with facemask. I heard other stuffs but could not comprehend... My body was already in motion. I think the long queue behind me reacted and cheered to my reaction... My sign of relief was more than glaring...
PS: My delivery was not smooth even though as I was 100% confident. The fact that I had cough, and was stressed (didn't sleep all through), tired, hungry as well as my poor history there could have been the reasons.
After 3 experiences in the same embassy, I would advise you to use the Abuja Embassy if you do not have any form of Funding or if you've been refused once in Lagos. It helps psychologically. The drilling in Lagos is Massive and I feel you have a slightly better chance in Abuja. I think Lagos has more applicants than Abuja, if this is correct, then it makes sense to use the latter. However, you can do it anywhere just like I did.
Big thank you to Horlahsunbo225, best plug for mock.

Congrat Sis Neeta02: Visa interview transcript Profile
School: Western Illinois University Program: Ms Computer Science Scholarship: 2k Deficit: 21,770 Sponsor: Uncle Gpa: 3.4/4.0 Status: Approved Lagos consulate, Nov 13 2020
My interview lasted about 3-4mins at window 11. My appt was for 8am but it got to my turn around 8:20am
So my interview proper...
Vo: good morning Me: hi, good morning
Vo: please place your 4 left fingers on the scanner (or whatever he said, can’t remember) & pass me your documents Me: Ok
Vo: so tell me how you took the decision to go to this school Me: sorry, (in my mind I wasn’t expecting this question now, & not in this pattern na. What happened to where are you going to & why this school?)
Vo: Repeats question Me: So after I decided I was going to get a master’s degree, I carried out my research online using some academic websites. I saw over 10 schools that I met their requirements & applied to Western & 6 others. I chose Western because of my interest in an ongoing research by Prof D. on software quality models for the evaluation of software products. I’m highly interested in this research because it aligns with my career goal of becoming a software developer. As a software developer, I need to ensure that the overall functionality & features of a software product I’ll build for my clients meet their expectations, so this research seeks to measure the various software quality models that would best fit any software I want to build in order to get a perfect quality software void of bugs. (I said all these kinda fast sha & a bit shaky cos his whole concentration was on me & I didn’t want him to cut me short)
Vo: so who’s going to pay your $21,700 deficit? Me: my uncle, Mr K is my sponsor
Vo: what does he do? Me: He’s the chief accountant & head of e-payment unit at the hq of INEC Abuja. ( I wasn’t clear at all here cos he was gazing into my soul)
Vo: How many children does your sponsor have? Me: 4 kids ( he didn’t hear me clearly so he asked me to repeat)
Vo: Are they older or younger than you? Me: they are younger
Vo: How many siblings do you have? Me: 1. I have an elder sister
Vo: what does she do? Me: she’s a US citizen & a student
Vo: where is she? Me: Toledo, Ohio
Vo: oh Ohio! (with his sweet accent) How did she become a US citizen? Me: she got married to a US citizen here in Nigeria in 2012.
Vo: uhhh that’s a long time! What does her husband do? Me: yeah! He’s an engineer ( forgot the company he works with, thank God the Vo didn’t ask)
Vo: what did you say your parents do again? Me: my dad is a clergy & my mom is currently not working because she’s ill ( I mentioned the illness).
Vo: oh sorry Me thank you
Vo: what does your sister do again? Me: she’s a student at University of Toledo
Vo: can you please repeat what your sponsor does? Me: he’s the chief accountant & head of e-payment department at the hq of INEC Abuja.
Types for a long while (the hour of decision) & reaches for the white paper. In my mind I was like are my eyes deceiving me like this? is that a white paper or blue? Then he said the golden words... please have your passport & i20.... & proceed to window 22 to pay your reciprocity fee. I was just saying thank you upandan until I left there.
God came through for me today. No docs were asked, the odds were against me but He did His wonders. I won’t stop thanking Him.
Fairheart number 1 of NL, lol. Thank you for the encouragement & assurance that I would be granted this visa even without funding & the mock too, I’m short of words. May God bless you. I won’t fail to thank Texrem. It was just 1 mock I had with him that he told me to change my response to why this school, he even gave me a pattern to follow & asked that I get back to him immediately, lol. The kinda things he said to me that day ehn I nearly cried. He is too real & blunt, but guess what, it paid off today. I won’t stop thanking you oh Texrem. God bless you as you continue to help others. To every other person who contributed in one way or the other by posting transcripts & all y’all are too much. God bless. |

Also l need you all advice I got a 304, 3.0 in gre, l studied Electrical & Electronics Engineering, cgpa 3.2/4, do you think it will be a good idea to sit for gre again and aim for a better score, will this improve my chance of getting funding for either a phd or masters program for 2021 as l might differ my admission if l won't be on campus. Thanks in anticipation. |

pompeiimagnus: Be ready to do a few prerequisites since you are switching from EE to CS. Hope you've talked this over with your program coordinator. For CS jobs, your skills are what matter most. So your choice of school should be fine.
Most schools have oncampus jobs you could apply for when you get to the campus. It's also possible to get a GA in another department. Since your program said they can't offer you a GA in the first semester, try and find out the requirements for getting it after that so you can plan accordingly. Thanks so much, about getting GA in another department how do l go about that, can l DM you please. |
