Who is the most inspiring Local Guide you know? From holding accessibility meet-ups to reviewing small businesses on Google Maps, Local Guides like you have a variety of passions. Through the program, you share those passions with others and inspire them to make a positive impact in their communities, too. We want to learn more about the Local Guides who have inspired you. Maybe they’re on a mission to make it easier for people with wheelchairs to get around. Maybe they add information about hospitals and clinics so people can find medical care in their city. Or maybe they take the best food photos you’ve seen on Google Maps. Whatever it is that makes them special, we want to know about it. Who is one inspiring Local Guide you think we should know? Tell us why in the comments below. www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Who-is-the-most-inspiring-Local-Guide-you-know/m-p/988387#M157810 |
Meet Accessibility Champion, Emeka Ulor Meet Emeka Ulor (@EmekaHouse) , a Local Guide from Lagos, Nigeria who cares deeply about accessibility. Emeka hosts meet-ups and shares posts on Connect that inspire others to care about accessibility. We recently caught up with Emeka to learn more about his passion. Below are his responses which have been lightly edited for clarity. Why are you passionate about accessibility information being shown on Google Maps? I have a close friend who's physically challenged. We attended the same high school and did so many things together. His desire is to move around the world, independently, but he faces accessibility challenges. It seems people with accessibility needs are not being considered in urban development project designs. So, when I found out that Google Maps has features to help people with disabilities and special needs, I told him about it and began to highlight accessibility in my contributions. I hope to one day see people with physical, mobility, visual, auditory, or cognitive disabilities move around unassisted [by others] in our society. What have you done to help add accessibility information or generate visibility for accessibility information to/for Google Maps? Since I discovered Google Maps provides accessibility information, I have made several reviews that include information about wheelchair accessible parking, entrances, restrooms, and seating. Answering questions about wheelchairs is a regular for me. It has become compulsory to take photos of accessible trails, where available, and adding them to my reviews. Also, I have talked to some managers at various public facilities to consider accessibility. What do you wish other Local Guides knew about accessibility? I wish every Local Guide understood that people with disabilities want to be independent and free like any other person. They feel happier getting things done without [other people’s] assistance. Secondly, all Local Guides should know that the United Nations recognizes the rights of people with disabilities to live a fulfilled life withou.... Local Guides should take it as a duty to help our communities make it a reality. What has your experience with the Local Guides program been like so far? Any words of wisdom for other Local Guides looking to find their passion through the program? Wow! So, I became a Local Guide by coincidence: happily answering questions and see where I am right now [a Local Guide Level 9]? I love traveling, writing and inspiring young people. I am also passionate about the environment, sports and I love sharing information. A combination of these interests makes me feel joyful and Local Guides program has given me such a platform. I would emphasize these major tips for finding your passion as a Local Guide: Be ready and open to meet new friends. Local Guides boasts a large array of professionals from various backgrounds, so you could find some who shares in your zeal. I met some Local Guides who are drone experts, graphic designers, and digital media strategists.Organize different meet-ups like a food crawl, photo walk, map editing, geo walk, and fun activities that can bring people together. You’ll definitely find one that will bring you joy. Anything else you’d like to share? At the recent Lagos Local Guide Forum, I was given a topic to present. The topic was “Going Green with Google Maps.” I couldn’t wait; I did some research and discovered wonderful new things. I got to learn about Google Earth projects on pollution, accessibility meet-ups, and other environmental initiatives across the world. Local Guides is a place to gain new knowledge. We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Emeka better and are inspired to find your passion, whether it’s accessibility or something else. You can check out Emeka’s Google Maps contributions here. Are you a Local Guide passionate about accessibility? Do you have another passion? Let us know in the comments below!
Good afternoon fellow nairalanders, we have been told to come for cbt on Wednesday at Rivers State University, but how do we know what particular place/building within the campus to go to for the test? From what I can remember it's a really big campus. Does anyone know plus, thanks in advance[/rquote] When you get to the School Bus Terminal the taxi or bus will surely convey you to the ICT Centre. It's a popular place |
Please who remembers the link to a past question hosted in India. I just forgot the name. Got an invite for 7th September. Good luck to all. |
Hello Guys, I need some help here. Last week I got an invite from one of the top tech companies to attend a conference in Silicon Valley. This is an all expense paid trip, air travel and hotel has been provided. And I have to get a visa before October 12. I have applied by filling DS160 but the appointment dates are only available from December. Is it possible to get impromptu or early date for an interview in Lagos. Thank you for your anticipated support. |

The MD, like I stated here last year, is the greatest misgiving at NDDC. When I cried out against changing Semetari people didn't see it. Mr. Nsima has a record of fraud and criminal maneuvering. I knew he was going to embezzle the funds for his giver aspiration thus my dislike for his appointment. He has succeeded in stealing our commonwealth and hindering the academic development of youths from this region while TODD is empowering northerners to study AI, technology, programming, medicine, etc overseas. He is not only stealing for himself, he is running under APC and thus donating the part of the money to them. This is why scholarships won't work under him nor projects except for some magic in the entrepreneurship gimmick which may be used to divert attention. If you follow him, I have been attacking him each time he tries to castigate his sitting governor claiming he can do better. We should not also become useless citizens by keeping quiet. Someone has urged us to complain to PCC and EFCC. Also try tweet at President, Vice and Senator Saraki on this so we get some help. I don't see 2018 Scholarship, except there is intervention or he proceeds to contest his election. But God will make him fail. All the stolen funds shall be lost. May Akwa Ibom people not have this their as their Governor. The will be worst for it. God help Nigeria |
I just jumped into this trend. I was part of the 2017 candidates. It took a lot of pressure before we got our transport fare. Finally, the scholarship cancelled. Please, let's keep praying but it seems prayers won't change a devil. The MD is planning to run for governorship under APP and he is channeling his effort and NDDC money towards that course. My school called me from Scotland asking if I am still interested in taking up my admission. In fact the lady said NDDC has been irresponsible of late. Do not put your hope in the scholarship until the corrupt MD leaves the office. Mrs. Semenatri should have been left to become full time MD. She ran a transparent scholarship scheme even those who didn't get it were happy because it was open. Yes we have the list of candidates from all the state's with their scores. No cheating. Also, your scores + interviews + quota comes to play. You can make 50 from Imo but a person with 35 from Akwa Ibom gets the scholarship. I was a victim of that in 2016. And it was explained to us. Similar to less educated state kind of admission. Look for alternatives while we await the invites (if it would come). God help Nigeria! The poorest country in the world yet the 6th richest oil producer. See original thread https://www.nairaland.com/3766253/2017-nddc-foreign-msc-phd/101#70740235 |
Please resend the link correctly. It is not working |
ShockWeaver:PLEASE IF YOU ARE A 2017 NDDC VICTIM, ENSURE YOU LODGE A COMPLAINT TO OFF, LET U.S HOLD NSIM RESPONSIBLE FOR TRUNCATING DUE PROCESS. ALL OF US CAN ALSO FIND A HUMAN RIGHT LAWYER TO STOP 2018 SCHOLARSHIP UNTIL 2017 CANDIDATES ARE AWARDED. FOR ME, 2O18 WON'T FLY BECAUSE IT IS AN ELECTION YEAR AND OUR MONEY WOULD BE USED FOR CAMPAIGNS. LET U.S NOT LET THIS GO UNDER THE CARPET. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. NOW THOSE WHO WERE CRITICIZING ME FOR CALLING THE MD A ROGUE CAN COME OUT AGAIN TO REFUTE IT. THIS IS A MAN THAT HAS CRIMINAL ANTECEDENTS. SORRY FOR USING CAPS. EXORESSING MY SADNESS... |
mymzo48:Hi, why do you want to reschedule? I suggest you attend as appointed as there are many other invitees and openings are limited. |
paoloscali:Can we all come together to send series of complaints to PCC? We could givebitba shot. |
GavelSlam:Don't worry Nigerians. What you are seeing is just the beginning. You saw how it happened to MKO? That's what will happen to some of the SW politicians who feel Buhari will smile with them. Star this post. After 2019, we shall see those that will face illegal detentions and abduction. Instead of us to criticize illegal areesest and detentions in a democracy some people are finding an excuse. One day it may be you. SARS will hold you and place fun or weed in your pocket and you won't return. It is still happening. Go to prisons and see. Instead of you to keep quiet, think about the security issues and condemn it, you are sectionalizing. This was the same thing that led to the death of Musa Yaradua, Abiola and co. Today, El Zazaky, Dasuki and Metu are being detained despite court asking them to be released. Tomorrow it may be you. Condemn evil. Even if some commits a crime, let Justice prevail but ensure their human rights until a judgment is served. |
Comrades, is it possible for us to agree on a date to besiege the twitter with this topic? If most of us can tweet all day about NDDC, the admission, the transport, chairman and disrespect we could get the attention of some people to intervene. We can tag the senate, Vice President and House of Rep and influencers like Omojuwa, Oby Ezekwesili and BBc Pidgin. #nddoss #nsima |
Can we get a volunteer lawyer to take NDDC and the Chairman to court? Maybe Femi Falana, Agbakoba or Keyamo or group of activist lawyers. Even if we don't get it finally, NDDC will learn to be responsible. We can all win double the amount or get automatic scholarships as compensation. |
So guys, how much would I make weekly if I give a car to a driver? Kindly assist me with real scenerios. I i tend getting a lone from a family member to do this business. How much can I pay monthly for the loan. And how long will it take me to repay. Thanks. |
God help us in this country. Now that elections are in the air, will that money be used for election or tuition? Meanwhile, let us continue to discuss this across social media with hashtags #nddc #NDDCScholarship2017. We pray they see reason to do the right thing. I wish you all a succesful 2018! |
dannysugar:Finally, someone has said the truth. When I analyzed this earlier one numskull was saying rubbish. The truth is that the man is planning to run for 2019 and is gathering money for that. Secondly, scholarship fund is huge, as a criminal, he can't see such money go without fighting to get his share. So he is spending speedily on contract and donations to steal enough then he can look at the scholarship. I have called the attention of the Speaker and I hope they'll do something. The Senate Chairman on NDDC is worse than the rogue sitting there. Let us continue to use every avenue to make our voices be heard. The only luck they have is that I am not in PH I don't mind forfeiting this scholarship but I'll ensure he doesn't get away. Similar thing happened in my university, they were not paying students on IT several years before I entered the school. In third year I went for my IT, suffered and I didnt get my 15k but students in other schools who I worked with got theirs. I promised myself that it can't happen. I went to ITF, wrote to them quoting FOI and God...see the millions the school has been collecting and sharing. The bad thing was that the letter came to my HOD's table and she opened the letter. That is another case. After, my efforts, today students are being paid ITF allowance. I didn't bother collecting mine again because I know what may happen. That was few years ago. Today, my lecturers keep praising me for the bravery. This is our country. Let us not keep quiet when thinga are going wrong. Speak out even if it is using social media. Most importantly, youths must understand the word collaboration. Together we can move mountains. Do not say he is my brother or my tribesman. It may hurt you down the line. It may be your children or family member that may be the prize. NDDC under Nsime is a charade. Please do not bring in Amaechi or Semenitiri, they have done their part. Let this man do his and if possible make it better. When you see a bad man, one of his attribute is lack of communication! |
Confused977:My Sister at 24 you are young. I am happy that you are doing a good business. This is my candid advice 1. Do not go to Dubai like this 2. Continue your business, rent a shop and expand and employ the right persons to work for you. 3. Focus on your business to make more money. Apply for BOI loan. Apply for Diamond Bank and other entrepreneurship programmes like Women In Business 4. Look for a mentor, an established woman to guide you. 5. Apply for your HND and get a higher certificate. HND is a quick path to BSc or any other higher degree. Just get it. Go for NYSC. All these are experience that can mould you. HND may even be equal to BSC soon. 6. You can run your biz and still school without much stress. Just ensure you have good record system. 7. When you graduate and your business is booming you can travel around the world. Many girls in Dubai are doing dirty jobs. Some of them regret going. If you must travel overseas, Canada is better but you must have enough money for school. There you can work and become a resident. You need money. Most importantly be patient, work hard and life will be better. Don't forget to help poor. Pray and never forget God. You will thank me one day, when you become a billionaire Cheers

|

Hello Nairalanders, Happy New Month, New Year and New Success. So we are seeking useful information from commuters across Nigeria. What are the most popular road transport companies you patronize. Are they of standard? What would you like to change if you were in postion of authority. Is the fare reasonable? Are the drivers well trained? Please share your experiences. Who is the best: 1. Luxury Bus Operator 2. Small Bus Operator 3. Cargo/ Haulage operator |
viewingthistopic:You seem to derail. So what is the step towards attaining accountability if not publishing results, names, finance promptly for the world to see and ask questions. I will comnend any Nigerian who takes such steps, whether you term it as praises or whatever. If I see a thief I will call him a thief. This is the only way to help this country get out of a mess. If he is your brother or godfathet better go an check his history. This was one of the reasons legislatures from his state blocked his appointment until lobbyists appealed. I hope you know. If you as a youth, does not know the difference between foolry and wisdom then, we are going to be in the same mess longer. You probably will treat others and expect people not to call you names. Can this shit happen in organized countries Peace be onto those who uphold justice. |
Please, do they still have the loan programme for Uber drivers? |
U r more of what u call others. Don't also come here to defend any of them. Any List that was published can also be altered before it was published. Do u think those examiners were independent from influence from "above" during her time? SMH[/quote I hope you read my post well. I stated clearly that the woman published every information promptly. I don't know her but he did a wonderful job. Even during the process she was communicating effectively online and in print media. There was no alteration, you see your name and scores it is still on their website. I still have the PDF with me. So keep shaking your head, do not reason with it. I know NDDC gives slot to political godfathers but not foolishly holding qualified people to ransom. I hope you get my point. I do not assume like you, I state facts. |
xenaaa:Bros. Well done. You are one of a few we have around. I pray God to have you as one of the successful candidates. If I lived in or around PH, I would have joined you physically. In fact, I would have prevented him from leaving. He is a very stupid fellow to keep his fellow citizens waiting for 7hours without empathy. No tea, lunch or refreshment just to remind him of his job. I am not saying you should act negatively. Keep being diplomatic. I hope to meet you someday. I have sent various info to some media outlets but none has published it. Let us also try to raise alarms using social media. Send SOS to Linda IkejI, Ynaija, Omojuwa, GidiTraffick Etc..... If there was no money why are they conducting entrepreneurship training? That will gulp millions if not billon. Like I said in my previous posts, these guys are smart criminals, they look for loopholes to steal but if they find it hard, he creates one. This is a funnel to embeZzle. BOI and BOA have been training Nigerians on entrepreneurship and after that they go back home with 90% not mobilized. NDDC should not go that way, if truly Nsima is sincere there's no fund. 57years of indepence, we are still in deep shit. Nothing will change. Except another coup happens or restructuring occurs with good intentions. The scholarship list has been doctored and has gone through so many CS operation. They just scared of releasing it. Shame on Nsima and Ndoma Egba |
shophut:Sir. We are not fools. Stop this eye-service. Even if there was a wrong doing should this numskull keep us in the dark? He has not communicated with candidates since May. Does he think that place is his father's house? The past NDDC MD/CEO has been the most successful and transparent. She published results immediately, did interviews immediately, paid transport fares promptly and selected the highest scoring candidates. I was proud of her despite that I narrowly didnt make because Imo had higher scores but didnt get more like Rivers and Delta. So for a crook like Nsima to say bullshit, he must be a thief because he is looking for loopholes to steal. If he postpones this scholarship now, he will embezzle the money because he knows he won't be there before 2019 elections. Shame on him! Shame on him and the Chairman! |
Lekubumber:Dont mind these psychophants. Some Nigerian youths are so useless. Instead of standing together to demand accountability, transparency and due deligence, they are here blaming the victims. Nigeria is bastardized with corruption. This Esima or what is his name is just a typical corrupt idiot. He is trying to favour his Godfathers. If he was a responsible and man of integrity, he would have published the cbt results and interviews so that candidates with higher scores will automatically be selected. Even Buhari won't change it easily if the scores are seen. What about the transport fares. He decided to keep them in an account to make more money. For your information, all these funds have been budgeted and allocated, so he has no excuse. He is diverting money for his governorship ambition and it won't work. I pray EFCC will catch up with him. Even the staff are not happy with him. If he dares to deny any candidate their rightful place, his right and all his generation will be denied good things nit if he stands on a path of honor, he shall be honored. I have declared and so shall it be both in heaven and on earth. Corruption has bedevilled this godamm nation. |

Comrades, can we all agree to do a social media campaign on a particular day with two or three hastags? We tag some influencers and media handles so that this issue of NDDC results and payment delay can go viral until something done? If we keep quiet and chat here nothing will happen. Can we agree? Twitter and facebook? #nddc #nddcoss |
I have the feeling that any decision I make at this point would either make or destroy me permanently. Pls help a sister
