Efforts made by Governor Ayodele Fayose to reverse the restriction order placed on his accounts frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) in Zenith Bank Plc was temporarily halted on Tuesday as the Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, deferred ruling on the mandatory order being sought to reverse the directive. The EFCC had last week Tuesday allegedly frozen Fayose’s account numbers 1003126654 and 9013074033 in Zenith bank for alleged money laundering running into N1.2 billion being money allegedly taken from the $2.1 billion arms fund in the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Bello Dasuki. Fayose through his lawyer , Mr Mike Ozekhome(SAN), had through an ex parte order deposed to on the 24th of June, 2016 by Bimpe Olatemiju sought a mandatory order unfreezing the accounts belonging and operated by him pending the determination of his interlocutory application. Joined in the suit are the EFCC (1st defendant) and Zenith bank (2nd defendant). The order was supported by 18-paragraph affidavit , a lone Exhibit, which was a letter issued to Governor Fayose by Zenith bank confirming that the EFCC actually placed a restriction order on the accounts and a written address. He also sought the leave of the court for the service of the originating summons on the defendants in their various addresses outside the jurisdiction of the court as contained on the order papers, supported by 17-paragraph affidavit. Ozekhome said the order was brought pursuant to order 26 rule 8(1) of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rule 2009 and Section 44(1) of the 1999 constitution which gives the court the discretionary powers to adjudicate on such matter. Citing the case of Abdulaziz Nyako Vs EFCC to buttress his position that the anti-graft agency has no power to freeze Fayose’s account without valid court order, Ozekhome added that the action was a flagrant negation of the Section 308 of the constitution, which conferred absolute immunity on the government against civil and criminal procedure. http://dailypost.ng/2016/06/28/account-freezing-court-summons-efcc-puts-fayoses-mandatory-order-in-abeyance/

For allegedly raping his three daughters, a 48-year-old man, Micheal Ogbar, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, refused to hear his plea and remanded him in kirikiri prisons. Elias said the court had no jurisdiction over the case and therefore transferred the matter to Apapa Magistrates’ Court. The accused, who lives at Oke-Ogba Street, Badagry, a suburb of Lagos, is facing two counts of defilement and rape. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rafael Donny, told the court that the offences were committed between January and May at the accused’s residence. Donny said that the accused raped his two daughters and defiled the third daughter. “The accused sexually abused his 24, 20 and 10 year-old daughters,” he said. The offences contravened sections 137 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Cc: lalasticlala http://punchng.com/man-arraign-sexual-abuse-3-daughters/ |

“This is a cross I am prepared to carry. If yielding to the nefarious agenda of a few individuals who are bent in undermining our democracy and destabilising the Federal government to satisfy their selfish interests is the alternative to losing my personal freedom, let the doors of jails be thrown open and I shall be a happy guest,” Saraki added.Abeg, who go help me open gate na. |

A mild drama played out at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court sitting in Jabi on Monday as some loyalists of those standing trial attempted to prevent reporters from taking photographs of the accused persons. The supporters used sheets of newspapers to block the front of the pressmen’s camera in an attempt to stop them from taking photographs of the accused. This led to a heated argument between the reporters and the alleged loyalists. The incident happened shortly after Justice Yusuf Halilu stood down the matter of alleged forgery of senate rule in 2015. Saraki alongside his deputy and the former clerk had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two count charge. http://dailypost.ng/2016/06/27/commotion-as-saraki-ekweremadus-supporters-clash-with-journalists-over-images-of-accused-photos/

The Federal Government will on Monday unveil its plans towards the provision of affordable houses for Nigerians in line with the electoral promises of the ruling All Progressives Congress. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, will make the plan public on behalf of the government at the Affordable Housing Summit 2016 being put together by the ministry in partnership with German Development Cooperation. A member of the summit’s Technical Working Group, Mrs. Eucharia Alozie, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja. Alozie who is the ministry’s Head of Public Private Partnership Unit was joined at the briefing by the Principal Consultant of Value Chain Project Consultants Limited, Dr. Joshua Egbagbe and the Leader of the Value Chain Unit of GIZ, Mr. Christoph Pannhausen. “The minister will be unveiling the Federal Government housing plan to the public during the summit. We will also produce blueprint that will be implemented very soon,” she said. She explained that the summit would serve as a platform where the public and private sectors would share ideas and proffer sustainable strategic framework for housing delivery in Nigeria. She said the ministry would use the opportunity of the summit to identify the challenges facing the sector and proffer solutions. According to her, the summit was different from an earlier one where a housing roadmap was launched. Alozie assured Nigerians that the event would not be talk shop but more of action. She said the summit would address the five pillars on which affordable housing stood. The pillars, according to her, are land; incentive and concession; off-takers strategy; housing finance; skill development and technology. Also speaking, Pannhausen said the summit would come up with a blueprint that would be implemented in the subsequent months and years. He said the affordable housing would be placed more on the door steps of the private sector who understand the market and how to invest in it. http://www.punchng.com/fg-unveil-plan-affordable-housing-monday/

The flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Edo state gubernatorial election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki says he has never been involved in any fraudulent activity, debunking reports in the social media that he was under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Obaseki, in a chat with newsmen in Benin City, said issues raised by the late Humphrey Idisi family against a German firm have nothing to do with him, stressing that he is just a shareholder. “I don’t have a case with the EFCC. I am on the board of several companies. This is a German company that owns rig in Nigeria. They have a partner who died many years ago and unfortunately, his estate has not been properly managed. “His other businesses have gone bankrupt. The company saw a petition by some of the children claiming that the company was owing their father. “There was an agreement that showed that the company paid everything due to the man. The family has been having quarrels and internal issues. “If somebody is owing you, why go to the EFCC? There is a civil process to do so. It has nothing to do with me. I didn’t manage the company. I am just a shareholder and on the board of the company. I didn’t take money from anybody. I have never stolen, I have never taken anybody’s money before.” Cc: lalasticlala http://dailypost.ng/2016/06/23/ive-never-been-involved-in-any-fraudulent-activity-edo-apc-candidate-obaseki/
