The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Wednesday, said if Muslim students continue to wear hijab to public schools in Osun state, Christian pupils will equally not stop wearing church garments and other apparels. This declaration was made known by the Vice Chairman, VC, of CAN in the state, Pastor Moses Ogundeji. This is coming after the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, restated that no student is allowed to put on unauthorized uniforms to school in the state, following the instruction of CAN in the state that students should go to school in church garments. DAILY POST gathered that some students of Baptist High School, Iwo stormed the school, wearing different church garments on Wednesday in continuation of the Tuesday drama but were prevented from going inside. In their response to the governor, CAN is insisting that the governor should be ready to expel all students in the state, if Christians and Muslim students cannot be treated alike. While fielding questions from journalists at the venue of the prayer meeting the association called on the hijab controversy in Osogbo on Wednesday, the VC said, “If the governor is fighting for the right of the Muslims, we will also fight for the right of the Christians. “He should be ready to expel those wearing hijab because hijab was never part of the school uniform,” Ogundeji added. The Secretary of CAN, Apostle Joseph Olaide, also said while addressing the gathering, that Christian students cannot be stopped from wearing church garments, adding that CAN should be notified if security men arrested any of the pupils, saying the leadership would take up the case. Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, has reacted to raid of his home by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Vehicles, among other valuables, were reportedly carted away. The former PDP governorship aspirant in Lagos State, via his twitter handle Wednesday morning, condemned the act, describing it as witch-hunt and injustice. Femi Makinde, Osogbo Some students of Baptist High School, Adeeke, Iwo caused a stir among their colleagues as they appeared in the school in choir robes and other church garments. Our correspondent, who visited the school observed that the students came late to the school around 8:35 on Tuesday and headed to their various classes as their colleagues hailed them for their courage. Many female Muslim students of the school wore hijab on their uniforms and some members of the Christian Association of Nigeria are in the school to monitor the reaction of the teachers to the mode of dressing of their children. No student was chased out of the classes for appearing in different clothes and all the students irrespective of their chosen uniforms are being taught by their teachers. Earlier, Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court had on June 3 given a verdict that Muslim students should be allowed to wear hijab in all public schools in the state because it was part of their fundamental rights. The lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye yesterday revealed his ambition to be the President of Nigeria someday, asserting that, “I will be” president. He however did not state when this will happen. The senator spoke on Channels Television while appraising the first anniversary of the Senator Bukola Saraki-led 8th Senate, arguing that, “the Senate under Senator Bukola Saraki has done brilliantly well. But we would have done better if not for this; like I call it this planted distraction by people of inordinate ambition.” Apparently referring to the assets falsification trial of Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, which has been linked to the way he emerged as Senate President, Melaye said; “you don’t kill a man for being ambitious.” He continued; “Everyone is ambitious. A civil Society Group, Guardian of Democracy, on Monday gave the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, 90 minutes to release the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party or face the consequences. Convener of the group, Solomon Adodo, made the demand while addressing reporters at the National Secretariat of the party. According to Solomon, it was gathered that Sheriff reported at the IGP’s office at the Lius Edet house after he was denied access to the party’s secretariat early Monday morning.
