A non-governmental organization, Unified Nigeria Youth Forum, on Monday described President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark that a lot of Nigerian youths want to sit and do nothing as the worst statement any head of state can make about his people in a foreign land. The forum stated that the youths of Nigeria deserve an unreserved apology from Buhari and his administration, giving the President a seven-day ultimatum to do so. President of the forum, Abulsalam Mohammed Kazeem, in a statement issued in Kaduna told Buhari, “Your administration lack the moral right to call us names because the only thing your administration have in stock is to blame past administration where over 80 per cent of your cabinet members are once part of that administration. Yet Mr. President is misinforming the world by trying to hide his inadequacies by blaming the youths when even the budget for education and health is not even enough to fund the sectors. “Our population as a nation is supposed to be an added advantage, but is not, because of the inabilities of both past and present administrations that have failed to fix our power sector. “Mr. President should be ashamed of himself, his generation and administration for spending over 20 billion US dollars since 1999 till date and yet we are paying for darkness, no investors will invest in any nation where there is no stable power supply like ours (Nigeria). Where are the youth going to get the job from?” The forum insisted that Nigeria youths are not waiting for free money, stressing that “The youths are making the most of what has been left for them, which is nothing as we can all see and feel rather Mr. President should tell the world that their generation were the idle generation because they have stolen the patrimony of Nigeria youth. “It took the same president six good months to form his cabinet and yet the only new faces on the list were Kemi Adeosun, late Ocholi and Bar.Solomon Dalung, at this point it’s not wrong for we “the youths” to say that Mr. President is suffering from intellectual idleness for his in-abilities to give us a strong, new and a viable cabinets within seven day of his inauguration? “Under his watch, unemployment has climbed from 8.2% in 2015 to 18.8% in 2018. Many of us want to work but have no opportunities. Most youth today are willing and able but the fraudulent system we found ourselves could not provide the enabling environment.” The NGO however observed that Nigeria remains a country of enormous potentials for several decades, adding that the country ought to have performed much better in terms of human, capital and economic development. http://dailypost.ng/2018/04/23/nigeria-youth-forum-gives-buhari-7-days-apologize-derogatory-comment/ |
Men of the Nigeria Police arrested Senator Ovie Omo-Agege immediate after the plenary. The lawmaker was suspended by the Senate for 90 days last week. He, however, attended the plenary today. The Senate had accused him of leading the armed men who stormed the chamber and snatched the mace while plenary was on. After the plenary, policemen ushered Omo-Agege from the door of the chamber into a waiting pickup van. Details later… http://punchng.com/breaking-police-arrest-senator-omo-agege-over-mace-theft/

Popular Tanzanian musician, Diamond Platinumz, has been arrested for publishing “indecent” photographs on social media, the information minister told parliament on Tuesday. Since Monday, images have circulated on social networks showing the 28-year-old singer, shirtless and in bed with a female companion. “Among our artists, there are some who are starting to spread indecency on social media,” Harrison Mwakyembe said. “I inform you that yesterday we were able to arrest the great musician Diamond Platinumz, he is being questioned by the police about indecent photos he circulated,” the minister said. “Social media is not a garbage dump of sorts. Our country has a culture,” he said, adding the musician would be brought to justice. Diamond Platinumz, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul Juma, is one of the most popular musicians in Tanzania Cc: lalasticlala http://punchng.com/tanzanian-music-star-diamond-platinumz-arrested-over-indecent-photos/ |
In Ghana, mosques and churches are seen to be compounding the problem of noise pollution, according to a report by Deutsche Welle. In the capital, Accra, authorities are seeking to deal with the noise caused by these places of worship, mosques in particular. Mosques are being asked to use mobile text or WhatsApp messages to call the Muslim community to prayer. “Why is it that time for prayer cannot be transmitted with a text message or WhatsApp? So, the imam would send WhatsApp messages to everybody,” said environment minister Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng. “I think that will help to reduce the noise. This may be controversial, but it’s something that we can think about,” he told DW. The government says it is hopeful such a change could contribute to a reduction in excessive noise. For many Muslims living in the capital, the idea of a mobile call to prayer is more difficult to embrace. Fadama community mosque imam, Sheik Usan Ahmed, calls Muslims to prayer five times at prescribed times throughout the day. Although he agrees that the level of noise could be reduced, relying on text and WhatsApp messages could also have economic implications, he told DW. “The imam is not paid monthly. Where would he get the money to be doing that? We try to practice what is possible. So the text message or any other message is not a problem. But I don’t think it is necessary,” Ahmed said. Other Muslim residents who spoke to DW also rejected the suggestion. “I don’t find anything wrong with Muslims waking up at dawn and using the megaphone to call their people to come worship their God, because we have Christian churches who use megaphones as well and they also preach at dawn,” said Nora Nsiah. Another Accra resident, Kevin Pratt, also dismissed Frimpong-Boateng’s suggestion. “Not everyone is on social media, and not everyone is as literate as he is. The Muslim call to prayer is traditionally supposed to reach as far as possible,” Habiba Ali added. The government has signalled it ultimately intends to enforce laws in order to quiet things down in Ghana. The World Health Organisation has long warned of the harmful impact exposure to environmental noise may have on public health. It lists cardiovascular disease, sleep disturbances and cognitive impairment among some of the short and long-term problems people could develop. The All Progressives Congress, United Kingdom chapter, said it would pay for Expression of Interest and nomination form for President Muhammadu Buhari to re-contest in 2019. The chapter made the promise in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Jacob Ogunseye, on Tuesday in Abuja, following Buhari’s declaration on Monday that he would seek a second term. It said that the President’s declaration was reasonable and satisfactory, adding that his second term would make Nigeria stronger as well as preserve the tenets of democracy in the country. It stated that the chapter’s expectations had been met by Buhari’s declaration, and assured that it would work assiduously for the electoral success of the APC at all levels. “President Buhari needs to consolidate on the achievements his administration has recorded in over three years, especially in economic growth, anti-graft war, security and youth development. “He deserves a second term and we are proud that he has yielded and declared his readiness to re-contest the election as Nigeria’s President in 2019 in earnest. “His administration’s achievements in the areas of security, economic growth, anti-corruption war and social development and other areas are visible to Nigerians,’’ the chapter said. It added that Nigerians should consider the re-election bid as a major step to consolidate and re-invent the country into “an emerging economic and democratic world power.” It called on Nigerians across the world, irrespective of religion and geographical location, to see the re-election bid of thePresident as a major step that would help Nigeria to stabilise.
