Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said Nigerians don’t need counselling to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2019 general elections in the country, saying the abysmal performance of the party has already made the people to grow weary of it. This is just as the governor noted that there is a wide difference in the tolerance levels of former President, Goodluck Jonathan and the incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari. He stated this in Ado-Ekiti during an interactive session with some journalists. According to a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, on Wednesday, he quoted the governor as saying that nearly two years of leading the country, the APC and President Buhari, had made life worse for the people rather than improving their lots. ”Nigeria of our dream is not what we see now. What I said about President Buhari are coming to pass. Before the polls, I said people should not vote for him. Nigerians are hungry and they are regretting. If a nobody contests against Buhari in 2019, Buhari will lose. Nigerians don’t need counselling to know that they should not vote Buhari in 2019. It is obvious. “Majority of those who voted for him never really knew him as they were mostly in their 40s, people who were toddlers when he ruled Nigeria as a military man in the 80s. Also, he is vindictive and apart from military nature, he does not have what it takes to run Nigeria. His government then was run by Idiagbon. “He is also not tolerant. You can’t compare him with Dr Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan accepted defeat in an election he conducted,” he stated. On the allegation of corruption against the PDP-led government, Fayose opined that those making such today would also have their books scrutinized by those coming after them. He expressed surprise that former President Olusegun Obasanjo could also level corruption allegation against PDP, when he spent eight years as president on the platform of PDP which was in power for 16 years. On whether a mega party would be formed to wrestle power from the APC, Fayose said time would tell, adding that he was a committed and loyal member of the PDP. Answering question on the mode of selecting the PDP governorship candidate in Ekiti State come 2018, the governor said public servants, artisans and people from different sectors in the state would form part of the collegiate that would nominate the party’s standard bearer. He said it would be after collating opinions of the various groups that the aspirants would go for the primary of the party. “Nobody will be stopped from aspiring, but we will go through that system to ensure that our candidate is the choice of the people of the state. After that, the party’s primary would select, but whatever results we have got from the different groups could guide in party members making the final choice, ” he said. On the costs of capital projects being executed across the state, Fayose said over N12 billion was involved. He stated that the flyover in Ado-Ekiti would gulp about N6 billion, the new Ojaba Market about N3.5 billion and that the three phases of the dualisation of Ikere main road would gulp N2.5 billion. http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/18/nigerians-dont-need-counselling-reject-apc-2019-fayose/

Simon Utebor, Yenagoa Residents of Otuoke, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have cried out over the lingering power outage in the area. Some concerned residents, who spoke to Southern City News, lamented that power supply had eluded the community for about four years. It was learnt that Otuoke residents were thrown into darkness sometime in 2013 when the gas turbine (gas generator) which had hitherto been a dependable source of electricity was allegedly destroyed by rainstorm. Since that incident, Southern City News learnt that effort to rehabilitate the gas turbine to serve the electricity needs of the residents had failed. Otuoke community, a host to a federal university, a cottage hospital, hotels, student hostels, among others, is not connected to the national grid. The residents were said to have derived their electricity from the turbine which was first installed by the Melford Okilo administration in the early 80s until it packed up about four years ago. In 2014, the Seriake Dickson administration made effort to refurbish the turbine by taking it to the manufacturers in the United Kingdom, but the residents are still groping in the dark. A visit by the Southern City News to the community on Tuesday revealed that darkness still pervaded the entire length and breadth of the former President’s community. A resident, Mr Azibola Oru, lamented that the community had been without electricity since 2013, saying that the development was better imagined than experienced. Oru, an employee of state Ministry of Health, appealed to the Bayelsa Government to come to the rescue of the community for the sake of the students that could not afford generators. He said, “We are tired of the power outage in our community. Due to the hopeless situation, most workers and students in the area prefer to come to work and school from Yenagoa instead of living in Otuoke. “We are begging the government to come up with necessary measures to bring power to the Federal University’s host community.” Another resident, Mrs. Anita Moses, urged the state government to connect Otuoke to the national grid in the absence of a functional gas turbine. She believed that if the government showed more commitment, the power supply problem would be ameliorated in no distant time. A restaurant operator, who gave her name only as Peace, said the absence of power had dealt a devastating blow to her business. ‘’Due to this power supply problem, I am usually running at a loss. Imagine a situation you spent about N7,000 per week on fuelling generator alone. You know what it amounts to in a month. This is not inclusive of other running costs such as salaries of salespersons. A former Chairman, Community Development Committee of the area, Mr. Mekumunisi Digha, said the situation was hampering economic and social lives of the residents. He, however, reminisced that when the residents cried out to former President Goodluck Jonathan, the ex-President, last year, paid part of money demanded by an electricity company to link them to the national grid. He expressed optimism that with efforts so far made by the community, Otuoke community would soon heave a sigh of relief. “I’m equally urging the residents to be prepared to pay their electricity bills when power is finally restored to the community. I must say that great measures have been put in place to restore power to Otuoke.’’ Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://punchng.com/jonathans-kinsmen-lament-four-year-power-outage/ |

Kidnappers of 10 students and staff of the Nigerian Turkish International College, NTIC, Ogun State have reportedly reduced their earlier request for N1.2 billion ransom for the release of the victims to N750 million. The gunmen had earlier demanded for N50 million on each student, while N200 million was demanded as ransom on the Turkish Mathematics teacher, Miss Deria. Vanguard reports that there was disagreement among parents of some of the victims over attempt to carry out individual ransom negotiations. It was gathered that while some relatives were begging the abductors to collect N2 million for the release of their wards, others were ready to pay between N10 million and N15 million respectively. One of the parents said, “The decision was to pool resources together and pay for their release. But as it is now, some of us are bargaining individually. Some even said they would pay between N10 to N15 million while some of us have not been able to raise up to N3 million. “For instance, one of the abducted staff is the bread winner of her home. Tell me, where will her family get such amount to pay? “Friends and relatives have been pooling resources together, yet I have not been able to raise up to N2 million. This is the third day and no hope yet for my daughter’s release. My worry is that my daughter is very fragile. Only God knows the psychological and emotional trauma she will be going through at her tender age. “Her mother has resorted to prayer. Infact, she has not slept a wink since news of our daughter’s kidnap was received”, he said. Meanwhile, there are indications that security operatives had located where the victims were camped. According to the source, the victims were safe and unhurt. Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/17/turkish-college-abduction-kidnappers-reduce-ransom-n750m/
