A group known as the Buhari Support Group, BSG, has warned the Department of State Services, DSS, against arresting the senior Pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries, OFM, Apostle Johnson Suleman, stressing that such action will spell doom for the current Federal Government. Recall that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose had in the early hours of Wednesday prevented operatives of the DSS from arresting Suleman in the early hours of Wednesday but the attempt was foiled by the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose. The attempted arrest was allegedly connected to Suleman’s recent message to his members to kill any Fulani herdsmen seen around him or the church. But in a statement signed by its deputy director, Blessing Agbomhere, the group said arresting of cleric will pitch the Christian community against the Buhari-led Federal Government. The group noted that Suleman’s comments on the killings in Southern Kaduna were a reflection of the mind of the Christian community across the country. The group also urged the DSS to focus on stopping clashes between farmers and herdsmen in parts of the country and ensure the security of lives and property. According to Agbomhere, “Everybody has a right to free speech, any attempt to arrest him can cause a lot of setback for the Buhari administration. “As a supporter of the President and a believer in this administration, I don’t want the presidency or the DSS to be drawn into a religious battle.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/27/arresting-apostle-johnson-suleman-will-create-problems-buhari-group-warns-dss/

Ihuoma Chiedozie, Enugu The leadership of the Assemblies of God Church on Thursday denied reports that it misappropriated pension funds belonging to retired ministers of the church. There were reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, invited the General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor, and the General Treasurer, Reverend Vincent Alaje, over a petition by one Mr. C. N. Idris, in which the church leaders were accused by about 2,000 pastors of embezzling their pensions. However, in a statement in Enugu, the church’s General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Godwin Amaowoh, said the Assemblies of God Church did not have a pension scheme, and as a result, there was no pension funds to be misappropriated. Amaowoh linked the reports to the leadership crisis which had torn the church into two factions, led by Okoroafor and Rev. Paul Emeka, respectively. Amaowoh, who is in Okoroafor’s camp, described reports of the alleged missing pensions as “a clever but criminal design by some elements to divert attention from some atrocities they committed while they held sway in the church.” He said, “We do not have a pension scheme in the Assemblies of God Church, as we never, in the first instance, employ any minister – Assemblies of God Church only operates what we call Assemblies of God Ministers’ Benefit Scheme. “Every minister with the Assemblies of God Church is on voluntary service. Therefore, we have no such thing as pension fund, rather we operate a welfare scheme for our ministers. All the ministers involved signed contracts in that regard in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Church. “We follow the provisions of that constitution strictly. It is also apt to make it clear to the members of the public that we do not know about 2,000 ministers; perhaps they are with the disfellowshiped Rev. Paul Emeka. “It also needs to be stated that the body administering, Assemblies of God Ministers’ Benefit Scheme is distinct from the General Council and is appropriately registered with the CAC. “Emeka is not qualified for the welfare scheme because he took a loan of N17m from AG-Homes and instead of paying back the loan, he wrote a letter to AG-Homes that they should take his entitlement for the loan. His entitlement was not even up to that amount. Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://punchng.com/assemblies-god-church-denies-stealing-ex-pastors-pensions/ |
The Ogun House of Assembly, on Thursday gave approval to Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s request to access N65.7 bn loan for development projects. The Majority Leader, Mr Adeyinka Mafe, moved the motion for the approval of the loan facility, while it was seconded by Mr. Razak Oduntan. The governor had on Tuesday wrote to the House seeking its approval to access a N65.7bn loan facility from domestic and foreign banks for development projects. Opening the debate on the governor’s request, Mafe explained that the said amount was provided for as capital receipt in the 2017 budget approved by the House. The majority leader said that if government could get the loan, it would be beneficial to the people of the state. Mafe said that the money was provided for in the budget as income, apart from the Federal Allocation and the Internally Generated Revenue of the state. He said that the Assembly provided the capital receipt that the government could borrow up to, but not above N65.7bn. Mafe said that it was very strategic for the government to get the approval, so that it could start sourcing for the loan. “And the request says the payment period is about 10 years, which is good for the state. “It is also important to know that the request is coming in and it’s making a specific request for a single digit interest rate, which is not very common in the open market now. “We know the commercial rate for loans nowadays, which is between 23 per cent and 29 per cent, the single digit loan will be good for the people of Ogun. “The reason why this is coming now is that we have a law that the executive has to come to us to get this approval,’’ he said. The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Olusola Bankole, said that it was important for the house of assembly to give approval to the government to access the loan. Bankole stated that there was need to take an urgent step to ensure that the budget of 2017 was realistic. He said, “Approving the loan facility will ensure that all the projects embarked upon by the government will be completed at the stipulated time. “We are not putting the state in any financial mess, we have looked at it critically, if we can give the opportunity to the government, it will ensure that all projects are completed.” The Minority Leader, Mr Olawale Alausa, submitted that the House should be intimated on the list of the projects that the loan facility was targeted at. He said, “My concern about this approval will be that if we have a list of the projects that this loan facility is targeted at, we will be able to monitor.” The Deputy Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo, said that in the course of 2017 budget presentation, most of the projects that the loan would take care of had been highlighted. “The Money will not be given to the governor directly, those offering the loans will finance the projects directly and we pray that we are able to get the loan,” he added. - The Senate President has called on rumour mongers to refrain from joining with President Buhari's 'death rumour' - Bukola Saraki said he never wanted to address the issue but for calls from across the country and abroad - He said such rumours are baseless, unintelligent and spread by those who do not love Nigeria The Senate President Bukola Saraki has decried the attempt by some section of the media to drag him into the death rumour of President Muhammadu Buhari. Saraki advised those peddling such news not to involve him in the matter. The Senate President through a statement signed by his spokesperson Yusuph Olaniyonu said he had first ignored the rumours after it first started. He however said that calls from various parts of the country and abroad promoted the need to address the issue. He said he was, “inundated with calls from across the country and abroad, it became necessary for me to make clarifications from our own end.” The Senate President added that it is a good thing that the presidency had also addressed the rumour. “However, I feel it should be known that those behind this baseless, empty and unintelligent mischief are those who do not love this country,” the statement said. “Such suggestions as contained in the speculation can only bring ill-will, disunity and crisis to the country and I therefore advise the sponsors to desist immediately. More importantly, these trouble makers should refrain from linking Senator Saraki’s name to their evil plot,” it said. The presidency through the political adviser to the president Babafemi Ojudu had said that the rumour of the president’s death is ridiculous. "I have read many ridiculous stories saying the Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo is being held hostage by some governors who are trying to compel him to resign. “I have equally received several calls regarding this. The story is simply not true. It is a fabrication. Don’t be a purveyor of fake news,” Ojudu said. The media was agog with the death rumours of President Muhammadu Buhari. The rumours also stated that the vice president Yemi Osinbajo was under pressure by some cabals to resign shortly after the president travelled to the United Kingdom for his 10 days’ vacation. https://www.naij.com/1084767-leave-buharis-death-rumour-bukola-saraki-warns.html

He added that the contract was at a unit cost of N464.00, amounting to about N9.287bn. Faleke also said that the company was paid the sum of N1.3bn out of the N5bn released by the Ministry of Environment as mobilisation fee without due process. Just to supply stove? Chai, which way naija? |
The House of Representatives on Tuesday gave its committees on Anti-Corruption, Environment and Habitat six weeks to investigate former President Gooodluck Jonathan’s “Clean Stove For Rural Women scheme” contract of about N9.287 bn. The resolution followed a motion by Rep. Abiodun Faleke (APC-Lagos), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote. Faleke noted that the Federal Executive Council had approved a contract for the supply of 20 million units of clean stove and wonder bags under the clean stove scheme for rural women. He added that the contract was at a unit cost of N464.00, amounting to about N9.287bn. The lawmaker said that following the approval of FEC, the Federal Ministry of Finance released the sum of N5bn to the Federal Ministry of Environment for the execution of the project. He further disclosed that Integra Energy Renewable Services Limited was awarded the contract for the supply of the 20 million units. Faleke also said that the company was paid the sum of N1.3bn out of the N5bn released by the Ministry of Environment as mobilisation fee without due process. The lawmaker expressed concern that less than 750,000 units were said to have been assembled and delivered at the velodrome of the National Stadium, Abuja, which was commissioned by former Vice President, Namadi Sambo. He noted that there was no beneficiary present at the commissioning nor was anyone later given the stove to achieve its intended purpose. The mandate of the committee saddled with the investigation will be to find out details of the contract, number of units supplied, their mode of distribution and names of beneficiaries on a State by State basis. The committees would also determine the status of the balance of N952m with the contractor, since 750,000 units of the clean stoves were supplied at a unit cost of N464 at the value of N348m out of the N1.3bn paid out. The status of the balance of N3.7bn which was outstanding from the initial payment to the Federal Ministry of Environment will also be confirmed by the committee. The committees would also determine whether or not the clean stoves and wonder bags project had assisted in eradicating desertification in Nigeria for future consideration.
