Politics › Group Demands Fayose’s Removal As Ekiti Governor In 14 Days by DONSMITH123(op): 11:06am On Jan 04, 2017 |
- Mass protests will be held by Nigerians from all walks of life if the National Assembly does not remove Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose from office in 14 days
- This threat was issued by a group of civil society organisations under the umbrella of Coalition for Good Governance and Anti-Corruption
- The group's national secretary Audu Joseph said it turned to National Assembly for Fayose's removal because the Ekiti state assembly has been compromised
- The group said it wants Fayose's removal because of many allegations of corruption and criminal conduct against the governor
A group of civil society organisations under the umbrella of Coalition for Good Governance and Anti-Corruption has urged the National Assembly to remove Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose and prosecute him for abuse of office.
The group made the call at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, January 3 and noted that the Assembly has 14 days to do the job or face nationwide protest.
National Secretary of the coalition Audu Joseph said the group was making its call because of the several allegations of monumental corruption and criminal conduct against the Ekiti state governor.
Joseph noted that the group turned to the National Assembly because the Ekiti state assembly was compromised and none of its members would institute impeachment proceedings against the governor.
He said: “This is proof that the Ekiti State House of Assembly can no longer perform its functions and the National Assembly should consider taking over those functions to ensure that the needful is done.
“To the National Assembly, we demand that a declaration of the doctrine of necessity to waive Fayose’s immunity is non-negotiable at this point such that people enjoying immunity can be allowed to answer to criminal charges like the current situation where security funds were embezzled and millions of Nigerians including the armed forces had to pay the supreme price.”
Joseph added: “In the last quarter of 2016, details emerged of how N4.7 billion naira being part of the stolen $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase found its way into Ayo Fayose’s Zenith bank account after the money was ferried across the country in a private jet and bullion vans, according to Obanikoro’s testimony after he turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Just a few days ago, on December 29, 2016 another audio surfaced of Fayose with his partner in crime, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, in which both men discussed without remorse, about how they compromised the December 10 legislative election re-run in Rivers state.
“Not once did either of them acknowledge the magnitude of the crime committed, which included the murder of some policemen in addition to the now habitual sabotaging of the wishes of the electorates.”
Joseph disclosed that the coalition has 34 Civil Society organizations backing it. These CSOs it notes are ready to mobilize their members and other Nigerians for a massive protest if Fayose is not removed by the National Assembly within the period it stipulated.
The group's demand comes just as Governor Fayose's wife rained curses on the enemies of her husband.
Speaking during the year’s edition of inter-religious thanksgiving service in the state, Feyisetan said it was high time for some enemies pretending to be friends be exposed
Feyisetan Fayose said all the wolves in sheep clothing working against her husband’s administration will be doomed. https://www.naij.com/1080747-group-demands-fayoses-removal-ekiti-governor-14-days.html

Crime › Man Charged With Stoning, Pursuing Bank’s Staff, Customers With Nailed Plank by DONSMITH123(op): 3:09pm On Dec 30, 2016 |
For allegedly stoning and pursuing bank’s staff and customers with a nailed-plank , a 33-year-old man, Taiye Jimoh, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Jimoh, a resident of Akute area of Ogun, is being tried for a breach of the peace, intent to commit felony and threat to life. According to the prosecutor, Inspector George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences between October 15 and November 8 at Iju, in the outskirts of Lagos. He said the accused entered into the premises of a branch of Union Bank PLC with the intent to commit felony.
“The accused was found wandering for an illegal and disorderly purpose,” he said.
Nwosu said the accused was intimidating the bank’s staff and customers by throwing stones and pursuing them with a nailed plank.
“The accused was always in the bank’s premises in the past three weeks; threatening the staff and customers with stones and a nailed-plank on it.
“Whenever he was asked to leave as he may be a spy who had come to monitor the bank’s activities, he would turn violent.
“The accused was neither a customer nor was he operating an account with the bank,” he said. The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 51, 166 and 306 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 306(1) prescribes five-year jail term for offender. The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum. The magistrate, Mr. A.A. Adesanya, adjourned the case to January 16 for mention. Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://punchng.com/man-charged-stoning-pursuing-banks-staff-customers-nailed-plank/

Politics › Drop Your Ego, Own-up On Audio Clip – APC Tells Wike by DONSMITH123(op): 1:23pm On Dec 30, 2016 |
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers state has challenged Governor Nyesom Wike to own-up to the audio clips published online. Two damming audio clips exposing the alleged ignoble role played by the Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike in the December 10th rescheduled election in the state have been released online.
In the latest audio recording, Governor Wike was heard denigrating the Nigerian Army whom he said does not exist anymore.Governor Fayose of Ekiti State has condemned the DSS for bugging his conversation with Wike. An action suggesting he has admitted. Meanwhile, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC in Rivers state, Chris Finebone in a statement said Fayose’s admittance of the audio clip is a direct indictment on Wike. Finebone challenged the Rivers state Governor to drop his ego and accept culpability in the electoral crimes that has marred the peace of Rivers state. The statement reads, “The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, received with satisfaction the confirmation by Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State that the telephone discussion clip between him and Gov Nyesom Wike published by Saharareporters is authentic. “Gov Fayose’s only grouse is that it was allegedly recorded and leaked by the Department of State Services [DSS], an accusation he is yet to provide the evidence. “The APC finds Gov. Fayose’s position very significant in several aspects. The most important significance of that admission is that even among criminals, some level of honour especially in telling some truth and owning up to the obvious are necessary. “When the audio recordings of Gov. Wike’s conversations with his people on rigging the last December 10 rerun elections surfaced in public space, the governor rather than own up and raise other issues about the clips chose to discredit them even if they were as clear to the deaf and dumb as could be. “Ordinarily, APC expected Gov. Wike to take advantage of the panel set up by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris to help unravel what happened during the elections including the authenticity of the alleged audio recording clips and his many accusations against security agencies, INEC and our party. “Instead the governor defiantly announced that he and the Rivers State Government would not cooperate with the IGP panel – something that tend to suggest that the governor has a lot to hide. “The APC notes that having been unsuccessful in discrediting the audio clips Gov. Wike decided to deflect attention from himself and the criminal nature of the clips by setting up his own panel to investigate events surrounding the last December 10 rerun elections in Rivers State. “The APC and its leadership believe that the decision by Gov. Wike to set up a parallel judicial panel on the December 10 rerun elections, as laughable as it appears, is not only to conceal his malfeasance in the rerun elections but to attempt to pin contrived wrong doings on his political opponents, a move doomed to die on arrival. “The APC wishes to remind Gov. Wike that while immunity shields him from prosecution, it does not protect him and indeed any governor from investigation. He must know that immunity has expiration date and that day must come. “Therefore, the APC calls on Gov. Nyesom Wike to tow the line of his Man Friday, Gov. Ayo Fayose and recognise that even among thieves some level of honour is necessary. He should own up that the audio recording of him is authentic instead of continuing to live in denial. Better still, the governor should take advantage of the IGP panel to tell all he knows about the December 10 rerun elections and possibly exonerate himself instead of the lame attempts at discrediting the clips and accusing APC, INEC, Police, DSS and everyone else.” Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 http://dailypost.ng/2016/12/30/drop-ego-audio-clip-apc-tells-wike/

Politics › Again, Buhari Cancels Bauchi Visit by DONSMITH123(op): 2:41pm On Dec 29, 2016 |
By Armstrong Bakam, Bauchi. All hopes were on Thursday dashed as President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Bauchi was again cancelled for the second time. Buhari was billed to visit the State on December, 13th to commission the Nigeria Air Force Hospital built at the new NAF base 29 close to the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi. The visit was cancelled because he (Buhari) led a delegation of some African leaders to The Gambia. The President was again scheduled to visit the State on Thursday, December 29th but the visit was also cancelled. All preparations were concluded for the President’s visit. Hundreds of people had thronged the Airport to welcome the President. The state government even declared a public holiday in the state. Speaking in a broadcast to the people of Bauchi on Thursday, the state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, said that the cancellation of the visit was due to the poor visibility of the weather caused by the harmattan. Abubakar apologized to the people for the failure of the President to visit the state for the second time stating that it was not intentional. He said that a later date will be fixed for the President to visit Bauchi for a state visit and spend the night in the state. “Because of the prevailing weather condition in Abuja this morning up to this moment that I speak with you (11:45am), visibility is less than 300 meters in Abuja. To that extent even International flights have not landed or taken off at the Abuja Airport. “For that reason, Mr. President was advised to put off his visit to Bauchi. I assure you, another date will be fixed and this time, for a state visit in which he will spend the night in Bauchi,” Abubakar stated. The Governor, while answering questions from Journalists after the broadcast, said that the Special Assistant on social media to the President, Alh. Sha’aban Sharada, and other aides had been in the state for the past three days in anticipation of the visit. He stated that he (Sharada), drafted a speech and sent it to Aso Rock which the President read and it was recorded as a proof of why he couldn’t come to Bauchi. Politics › Obama Calls Buhari As DSS Arrests Al-Barnawi, ISIS-Recognised Boko Haram Leader by DONSMITH123(op): 1:00pm On Dec 29, 2016 |
The faction leader of Boko Haram, AbuMusab Al-Barnawi, has been arrested by the Department of State Security Services according to a report by Television continental.
Al-Barnawi who was recognised as the leader of the Boko Haram sect by the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIS) was arrested by DSS operatives three months before Sambisa forest was finally captured by troops on Operation Lafiya Dole.
The DSS had said: “About six months ago, we burst a terrorist attack that was to happen in the United States. This earned the service a letter of commendation.
“In fact, President Barack Obama placed a call to President Muhammadu Buhari to acknowledge what we did.
“We did not make it a media issue because before you know it, there will be editorials asking us whether we had addressed security challenges in Nigeria before helping the US.”
The arrest of the factional Boko Haram leader prompted a call from US president, Barrack Obama to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Al-Barnawi is recognised as the third most wanted terrorist in the world
According to Vanguard, a top security source confirmed the arrest of the Boko Haram leader .
“The suspect, who was responsible for major killings, kidnap of locals and foreigners between 2012 and 2015, is in our custody.
“In fact, when the rest of the world got to know that the key terrorist had been captured by us, they had been sending their officials to come and interrogate him in our custody.
“We had prepared adequately for the arrest of the suspect, who is the third most wanted terrorist in the world, before the takeover of the Sambisa forest by the Nigerian troops.’’
Al-Barnawi was a former spokesperson for the terrorist group before he was appointed factional leader of the sect by ISIS.
Shekau was accused of going against the directives of the group which necessitated the appointment of a new head although SHekau still considers himself the true leader of the group https://www.naij.com/1079894-dss-confirms-arrest-abumusab-al-barnawi-isis-recognised-boko-haram-leader.html?utm_source=mailfire&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=breaking
