TonyeBarcanista:Sheriff will not leave just like that and allow Makarfi to be in that office. Considering the fact that he has spent alot of money. Tonye my friend, lets be frank here. Sheriff spent alot when PDP is having issues. Where was Makarfi when PDP could not pay staff? Where was Makarfi when PDP WADATA plaza is like a ghost mode in Phyno's voice. Sheriff came and paid all his dues. I think, they should have called for a dialogue and settle this amicably. Our Judiaciary at the other hand is not helping issues. In a situation where Sherrif camp is winning court case in abuja and Makarfi camp is winning court case in PH. Don't you see the handwriting of anti-party activities among the PDP themselves? |
Jirate:Omo, you wan kill the guy? Who on earth fit answer a big amen to that prayer? For this present economic recession? |
TonyeBarcanista:I prefer other candidate as chairman of the party other than Sheriff or Makarfi. Those guys are on the verge of killing PDP. PDP need to wake up from their sleep before 2019 general election. |
Wizzyblack3:I tell you. No difference. same source. |

Olusola Fabiyi, Abuja Two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party have submitted the names of two different people as their candidates for the Ondo State governorship election. The two camps are that of the National Caretaker Committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi while the other is a faction led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. Our correspondent gathered that while Makarfi’s camp submitted the name of Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), Sheriff’s faction gave the name of Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim as its own candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission. The election is scheduled to hold on November 26. Investigations by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday showed that the Sheriff’s camp submitted the name “a few hours ago.” The faction was said to have relied on two court orders, one of which asked the commission to take candidates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states from Sheriff’s camp. The spokesman for the faction, Mr. Bernard Mikko, confirmed the submission of the name of Ibrahim by his faction. Mikko, a former member of the House of Representatives, said his faction was sure of winning the election in the state. He said Sheriff, who he referred to as “the man who has the love of the party at heart,” was sure of being pronounced the “real and authentic national chairman of the party by the courts.” He said there was nothing to worry about, adding that the faction was merely against the alleged impunity in the party. Mikko said, “We have a formidable candidate in Jimoh Ibrahim and we have forwarded his name to INEC as the party’s candidate. “We believe he will defeat any other candidate based on the clean process that threw him up and his antecedents in the state. “He had contested before and was and still, well received by the electorate. He’s our candidate for the election.” However, a member of the National Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Makarfi, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, faulted the submission of Ibrahim’s name by the Sheriff faction. He said the aim and the action of the group would come to nothing, just the way he alleged the faction failed in its bid to submit another name as the party’s governorship candidate in Edo State. Adeyeye wondered where the faction got the courage to take the name to INEC, when the electoral body did not monitor the primary that produced its candidate. The contentious primary that threw up Ibrahim took place in Ibadan, Oyo State while the one won by Jegede, was done in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The former minister of state for works, nevertheless, asked members of the party in Ondo State in particular and Nigeria in general, not to panic. He said, “If they do that (submission of Ibrahim’s name), it will amount to nothing. This is because, we have court judgments in our favour and moreover, INEC did not monitor their own primary. “Let them continue with the entertainment. Nigerians are enjoying their drama.” Reacting, INEC’s Deputy Director on Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Nick Dazang, said Makarfi group had submitted the name of its candidate. He said, “Yes, one of them, the Makarfi group had submitted the name of its candidate. I’m not sure if the Sheriff faction has done the same thing either today (Thursday) or yesterday (Wednesday). “At the end of the day, the commission will sit down to look at the law and take a position on who is the right candidate and who is not.” http://punchng.com/ondo-makarfi-sheriff-factions-submit-different-candidates-names/

The First Nation Airways has postponed resumption of its flight operations, earlier scheduled for September 15, by a few days. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the airline had on August 17 suspended operations to enable the aircraft in its fleet undergo maintenance. NAN, however, gathered from the airline’s ticket stand at the Murtala Muhammed Airport 2, Lagos, that it might return to operations on September 17. A reliable source told NAN that the equipment needed to fix the airplanes was only released by the Nigeria Customs Service a few days ago. The source said, “The airline had anticipated that all customs formalities would have been done last week Friday before the Sallah holidays. “It is hoped that the team of engineers would finish work on the engines before September 16 as the airline plans to resume operations immediately after the engines are fixed.’’ Capt. Chimara Imediegwu, the FirstNation Airway’s Director of Flight Operations, had on September 6, told newsmen that a team of engineers were coming to Nigeria to service the planes. Imediegwu had debunked the claim that the airline was on the verge of folding up, stressing that it voluntarily grounded the aircraft at enormous cost to await the arrival of the manufacturer’s team. “The FirstNation management planned well ahead and kept the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority informed of the progress on the maintenance of its aircraft. “We notified passengers and flights are currently loaded online effective form September 15. “This will ensure that passengers continue to enjoy safe and reliable services that the airline is reputed for,’’ he said. http://punchng.com/firstnation-shifts-resumption-flight-operations/

John Alechenu and Olusola Fabiyi The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to leave office immediately. But before quitting, the former ruling party asked the President to return the country to how he met it when he assumed office on May 29, 2015. The spokesperson and a member of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said this in a statement he signed in Abuja on Wednesday. The former minister of state for works said his party was not happy with the state of affairs in the country. He specifically mentioned the statement credited to the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, that, “recession is a word.” Adeyeye said, “Is this statement as a result of ignorance, lack of patriotism or in-line with President Buhari’s comment that his ministers are noise makers? “For the record, recession is characterised as a period of negative economic growth for two consecutive quarters, given rise to high rate of unemployment, fall in output, increase in government borrowing, etc. “Following this understanding, Nigeria’s economy is already near depression. The crass ineptitude and lukewarm-attitude of this All Progressives Congress government is no longer tolerable, and therefore, we are calling on President Buhari and his team to return Nigeria to its state of booming economy before they assumed office in May, 2015, and then quit immediately to allow other capable leaders revive our ailing economy.” Adeyeye said about three airlines, local and international, and some banks had allegedly suspended operations and sent their members of staff on an indefinite leave due to the poor state of Nigeria’s economy. He said Nigerians were aware that the PDP government invested heavily in most of the nation’s airports, an action he said resulted to alleged ‘facelift’ and improved operations through remodelling, construction of new airports, refurbishing and equipping of the local and international airports to meet the best practices in the aviation industry. He said the APC’s administration had frittered away all the good policies and programmes which he claimed the PDP put in place, thereby bringing down the aviation sector in the country amongst other catastrophes he said the new leadership had caused. He said the President should sit down to work instead of constantly blaming past governments at all time. He said, “What Nigerians want from this administration are positive results and not resorting to throwing tantrums on the PDP at every given opportunity. “Our call for the President to return the country to how he met it in 2015 is justified on the following grounds. “In 2015 when the President came to power, a bag of rice was selling at N7,000, but now, it is above N20,000; a ‘mudu’ of beans was N150 then and now, it is N500; one US dollar was then trading for N197 but now it is over N400. “Also, a litre of fuel was N87 but now is N145; cost of transportation and other services had skyrocketed. Given our observations since the inception of this government, they have nothing to offer and as such, quitting will be a solution because nobody can give what he/she does not have. The APC has failed.” Adeyeye called on Nigerians to recall President Buhari’s purported “body language” at the beginning of his administration and reiterated that governance “is a serious business and not about someone’s body language’ and de-marketing strategies of Mr. President while ‘globetrotting’. “When this government came to power in May 2015 riding on the achievements of the previous PDP administration, President Buhari’s handlers and his party, the APC, claimed it was his ‘body language’ that brought some positive changes the country was witnessing at that time. “So, we want to know what are the results of the so-called ‘body language’?” He concluded that the earlier the President and his team quit, the better for the country, saying “there is no better time than now to make this call for the President to return the country to how he met it and quit. “He can even quit right away for a more experienced team to take over.” Adeyeye appealed to members of his party and other well-meaning Nigerians to keep praying to God to intervene so that the country could quickly recover from the ailing economy. The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, who was until his appointment, the South-East Zonal spokesman for the APC, has dismissed the PDP’s call for Buhari’s resignation. Okechukwu said the PDP was simply trying to make Nigerians forget the 16 years of its maladministration. He said, “On May 13, 2010, the Jonathan administration announced the contract award of three refineries which he called the greenfield refinery. One was to be located in Bayelsa, one in Kogi and one in Lagos, if those refineries were constructed, the billions of naira we are losing through vandalism of our pipelines would not be the order of the day. “If his wife, Patience, was wise enough to use the money she used to build a hotel in Yenagoa for the refinery, we wouldn’t have been where we are today. “The Nigerian people know where the rain started beating us. As the Petroleum Task Force chairman, Buhari, with the meagre resources at his disposal, was able to build more kilometres of roads than the PDP did in 16 years, even though they had more money. “Are they saying Nigeria should return to the years where Boko Haram held all of us to ransom and the looting of the public treasury was the order of the day?” Cc: lalasticlala http://punchng.com/resign-now-pdp-tells-buhari/

Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt THE People Democratic Party in Rivers State declared on Wednesday it had no link with militants and had never planned to disrupt the election in Edo State with any militant group. The party also said at no time did Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta States raise N2bn for the PDP in Edo State to prosecute the election. Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, made this remarks while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. He explained that the comments credited to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, was made out of desperation to ensure that the All Progressives Congress won the forthcoming election in the South-South state. Oshiomhole had specifically accused Wike and Okowa of planning to deploy 8,000 militants in Edo to disrupt the poll. The Edo State governor also alleged that his Rivers counterpart and Okowa had raised the sum of N2 billion for the PDP governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to win the election. But Nwanosike described the allegations as false, adding that though the Rivers State governor declared amnesty for repentant militants in Rivers, it had nothing to do with the Edo election.
