Why not pick up an on-campus job or work well (so as to have a good GPA) in your first year so you can get assistantship for the second?

You know the first, cardinal rule that applies.... let your brother check up the school(s)/program(s) requirements online (the school's website). From there he should get information on the pertinent things to do, the standardized tests to write and average scores for admission, deadlines to meet, documents to submit and every other apt information he can get.

Bro, you want to get into a program that's virtually the most competitive in the US, so take the GRE to increase ur chances. Remember those Chinese & Indians are everywhere and they ace standardized tests. Hence, u not writing the GRE is reducing ur chances

One thing I've learned is that visa interviews are not set in a stone. Some VOs myt see it as an immigration intent & not be convinced u are a not a genuine student especially if u are going to d state where she is a denizen. But with very good presentations and defense from u, u can disproof that. It all comes down to d reasons u give.
