imperiouxx: usnews and other schools preview sites will only give estimate. Even the school site gives almost close to the actual cost. But the actual tuition/cost is known by the time you get to the school doing registration. The cost might be a slightly higher or lower than what's on your I-20.

GboyegaD: That is very wrong oooo. Tuition for out of state is about $8k per semester and in state is about $4200 per semester.

GboyegaD: OK thats cool. Quite a number of Nigerians (Graduate and Undergraduate) in Discovery Park where they have the Engineering Departments.

GboyegaD: What is your major and level of study?

GboyegaD: I studied in Texas and UNT to be more precised. The cost of living is relatively low compared to som other states, there is a huge number of blacks in the state and most people are friendly perhaps because it is a school environment. The weather is nice and could be extremely hot during summer. If you study hard, you sure will get good grades.

imperiouxx: UNT is in Denton, close to Dallas. University of Dallas is the one in Dallas. Lubbock is 1:45hr drive from me. I've been there countless times.

imperiouxx: TX is home, Nigeria far from federal republic of Nigeria. 32 to 39, if not 40 degree Celsius hot during summer (hotter than Nigeria sef), some parts don't even get snows. Black port the place is (lot of blacks) and you walk into many Nigerians in areas like Houston and Dallas. So, going to TX, just think you're going to Nigeria in US but some areas like those closer to NM are different in weather and Nigerian distribution. Great state too in term of GDP (one of the richest state in US). Chikena!

Below was my last encounter with vo:

me: I gave her my documents
vo: why do you want to study abroad?
me: I told her
vo: what school are going for?
me: I told her NCCU
vo: Who is ur sponsor?
me: I told her my employer and handed her letter of sponsorship and bank statement.
vo: what are your roles and why should they lavish such an amount of money on u?
me:I told her I've been working there for 12 years and I'm one of the manager and.....she cut me in
vo: are you married?
me: I told her yes with two kids?
vo: Are u going with them?
me: said no.
vo: I'm sorry u have not convince me enough......... and I was denied.
Pls I dont really understand what she mean by you have not convince me? Is it about my family or about my sponsors? She dont even ask for GRE or TOEFL.
Pls help me on what to say on what are your roles and why should they lavish such an amount of money on u?

virgin ice: @dot1, d bolded $100 means wen d guy applied, e payed application fee $100,got d admsn, was sent his I20 w/o him payin anoda fee like oda schs. Some schs make u pay shipping fee for I20

ferdimako: He meant he didn't pay to have his I20 and all 'dhled' to him.Everything was covered by the application fee.

bigfrancis21: Most schools will wait till the application deadline is over and they'll collect all the pllo of applications received and sit on all at the same time. However, all things being equal, early applicants will stand at a better chance of being considered especially for financial assistance than late applicants. What I mean is that if 4 applicants of the same academic level applied and 2 applied very early and 2 late, the earlier two will more likely be considered for the department's financial assistance such as teaching assistantships, research assistantships than the late 2. However, if all the early pool of applicants have all average students and towards the application deadline they receive an application(s) from a very exceptional record with perfect GRE score, the wizkid might outdo everyone and be considered first even though he applied late.

I've heard that some departments give admission on a rolling basis. Not so sure about this one. That is as the applications are coming in, every quarter or say month end they'll decide on the ones they have and wait again till their next decision time. Once again, I'm not sure of this.
