sammykm2030: Thanks brother. I'm 30yrs old and I finished my secondary school year 2000. I learned how to repair computers and photocopy machines between 2001 and 2005 after which I got my own shop and boys that are also learning under me. In a nutshell, I have been busy since when I'm out of school. Do I still stand a chance with this situation? The fact that you are 30 doesn't portend a denial. It just makes it difficult getting the visa for undergraduate studies. I don't wanna be seen as a despondent becos on this thread we've seen some people with similar profile getting their F1. But I believe if you work hard, score great in SAT and ace TOEFL, then get into a good school, your chances will be made better. Furthermore, I think you need a good reason or reasons to convince the VO that you are a genuine student. Cos 2000 is 14yrs ago. The 'interstice' in time is too much. I think thatz d biggest thing u need to work on when going for ur interview. With prayers, hardwork and resilience, everything is possible. So, kick it off bro |
koredz: i didn't get my student visa here in Lagos, it was my first time so i must have been a little jittery. anyway i've rescheduled for another interview this month and so i was directed to this website by a colleague who got hers.. i need help!!! thank you!It would do us good & make things easier if u can post here the full script of ur 1st interview. Peeps are here to help u review & make recommendations |
sammykm2030: This is a wonderful thread . I read some post and comments about going to community college in US; that it is a red flag . So going through university will be the best bet I think? My other questions are, do Embassy discriminates about age when it comes to granting visa to an undergraduate student after getting the admission and (I-20) from a university in US. Will TOEFL be enough with someone that has completed 100L studies here? Is SAT compulsory even if your school is not asking for it? Other questions will depend on the answers to these above questions. Thanks and May God bless you richly. Happy new month.Yea, community colleges are mostly red flags but some people are lucky getting their visas with them anyway. Most times age plays a vital role in your visa interview success. The hiatus between the time you finished secondary school & d time u want to go for ur undergraduate (UG) studies shud not be too wide tho. But conversely, u can defend that by telling d VO wot u've been doing all the years. Am saying this cos u didn't state ur age or d time u finished secondary school. I doubt if a 30 or 40 year old man can be lucky @ the embassy going for UG studies. Some schools don't request for SAT and/or TOEFL, u won't want to tell the VO you av completed ur 1st year here. That's a red flag. But to be on a 'cruising' side try do both SAT & TOEFL, might not be for ur admission but to increase your chances of getting the Visa. |
ridimic1: are u guz saying d sch one intendiing applying to wil send recomendation forms to u for ur profs to fill..?Recommendations come in different forms depending on school. Some schools do online recommendations whereby forms are sent to your recommenders to fill. Others require you to print the form online and give to ur recommenders to fill, then either scanning and send to the school or you send it with ur application package. Some schools only receive letters written by ur recommenders and submitted to them using either their commercial or official email addresses |
Congrats to everybody; those that got their visas approved, those that got their passports back with visa, those that av travelled already, those that got denied but believe they will retry & get it, those waiting for spring & those that aced GRE. Been lagging behind for long, cos of work. Back now ![]() |
godG: I love this! Holistic approach. God bless you, Mr. Dotun.Amen and u too |
godG: O Beautiful People,It depends on u and how u wanna go about it. When I did mine I made sure I called all of them & told them that I would be applying to 2 schools. After they all agreed to be my recommenders, I submitted their details sameday to both schools. I knew the schools wud send the recommendation form (immediately) after submitting their details. So that made it easy for them (recommenders) to do, i.e filling similar recommendation forms subsequently. That saved all of us (involved) lots of stress. U can decide to do that too, filling d recommenders form for the 3 schools at d same time |
cashglue: Thank u again Zee! Yeah I meant the ziploc bags-the transparent one. I will certainly look for it in Lagos. I shud be able to get it.Bros, pls let's know once you've got some. Also interested |
MsNas: I kinda had an idea about the technicality aspect. I was just curious about why those that bagged a M.Eng can't proceed through the PhD route. Lol. I guess most people don't know though. I'm pretty much sure my friend has no clueI can't give a definite answer as to why this is so. But lemme try explain wot I think. M.Eng was designed strictly for people that want to work in d industrial sectors, hence justifying the dense practicals they do during their study programs. Itz strictly course-based and most projects are done as a group just as in B.Eng. But for MS in Engineering, most of the researches are done singly with the help of your supervisor. You also submit a thesis & defend it. Those prepare u for your PhD which requires thesis writing and defence. Also, PhD is an individual effort, which translates to the fact that with an MS certificate, you are ready for the forthcoming challenges that come with ur PhD. PS: just as I noted earlier, itz just my thot & itz disputable. |
slimmy05: Just like MBA and MSc.Yea. Datz it. But most people are oblivious of it |
MsNas: Really? M.Eng degree holders can't do PhD? Never knew. Do you know why please?MEng is for those that want to be technically sound. It is more technically-based. Thatz why dey do more practicals & spend more time doing internship. No thesis for dem also. |
MsNas: No, University of Florida isn't Ivy League. Most of the Ivy League schools are concentrated in New England. But the University is a competitive school to get in based on the sheer volume of applications they receive yearly. Also you should take into account the location of the school and also its reputation. As per their admission processing, You should know that Mechanical Engineering is a competitive course. Most of the time, all the student in the masters program are always on tuition waiver (at least for the A-rated schools)Good point. Also with MS u can proceed to do ur PhD, but not with M.Eng |
goldenchic: Esanu mi eyin egbon mi ni le. Graviton, Slimmy, walspring, Americana, streetmic ore mi and others Pls I need an urgent answer to this questions. Interview less dan 8days. Going for MBA in human resources. As everybody knows, d poorest answer to give is to say u want to stay back in d US & work. But any other well-constructed point, like returning back to ur present work (if u av 1 now), or coming back home to work in a company or sector or even establishing ur own company, etc will do. U just need something to accentuate the fact that u won't be staying back |
temi4fash: hey bro, u seem to know abt elect/elect.. Wat area is ur speciality?? And is dere a dif btw control in electronics and control in electrical... Sent u a pmTho not directed to me, but I can contribute cos am an Electrical Engr. Control & instrumentation is not a stand alone discipline in American universities, u only get dat in d UK. The closest u can get in US (just as u've been advised by others earlier) is to check for faculties doing researches in such field. Electrical Engineering (EE) is very broad and getting a faculty running a research on control is more common than on instrumentations |
I felicitate with Sponge3, Streetmic, Dimmy08 and Doctoroma on ur US Visa approval. May GOD make this the beginning of great things in ur life. More visas to come in Jesus' name. |
Congratz to one of my beloved brothers on this thread Ashigolo for his VISA Approval |
Congratz to all those that got their VISAs approved lately. Av been so busy reading past transcripts (both approvals & denials) and saving most of them. I've been on this thread for more than 2 years and reading those transcripts again is not inordinate. I think itz imperative that you read as many as possible past transcripts if you wud be going to the embassy soon, as u can get clues to possible questions, patterns to answering them, documents asked, etc. Am preparing for Spring but I love early preparation. |
Really, the year of Exceeding grace. Goodnews pouring in already. Dis thread will soon be inundated with a plethora of more goodnews, but it won't be complete without my own visa approval. To those that got their American Visas approved, i.e. Chemical2, Prof Enny- Congrats. Keep praying for others yet to get. And all d best is my wish for u. And to bimbola85, pls dnt fret. Delay is not a fetter & shud not get you consternated or chagrined. Just keep ur head up. U were neva beaten, just asked to retry. GOD bless u. |
Oga mi, So wot do u want us to say now? Happy Visa anniversary ![]() imperiouxx: I got my visa exactly today in 2012. |
Nice one bro. Keep praying now if you've not been doing so. All da best Amefrica: Interview transript: |
HAPPY NEW YEAR all. It's going to be replete with GOODNEWS by GOD's grace |
This is something that has been in vogue since antiquity. But I never stopped wondering why people prefer to write and/or pronoun Christmas as Xmas. The 1st one contains CHRIST who is reason for the season, while in the other (i.e xmas), the Christ has been substituted with 'X'. We all know X is used pellucidly to depict salacious content. My question now is, what is the correlation between Christ and X? also, why do people prefer the shorter form? |
Itz been long I last dropped a mesg here. So many tinz av happened here since my last tym. Ok, Congratz to those that got their AmericanVisas approved. I felicitate wit u guys. Also, with our bro Imperiouxx (not Imperious o) for d successful completion of his program. All the best bro. And to others dat achieved such a feat recently, Congratz. To those resuming in January, safe trip & congrats. Plz, an advice from me- if u wud be consigning anytin for any1, ensure u knw wot those things are, so u won't be used to courier contrabands. To admission applicants, we all shall testify to the goodness of GOD soon. Merry Christmas to you all. |

. And their admission requirements is also set higher than the baseline admission requirements set by the graduate college. My advise to you is that while you apply to The University of Florida, try and apply to some B-ranked schools too as a safety net in case its doesn't pan out with UofF.
