According to Forbes: ''Investing in cryptocoins or tokens is highly speculative and the market is largely unregulated. Anyone considering it should be prepared to lose their entire investment'' Bitcoin prices have been trading sideways for the last few weeks, moving within a reasonably tight range as many investors wait to see what China's regulatory environment will look like going forward. The digital currency's price has primarily traded below $4,000 since September 14, according to the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (BPI). The currency has suffered this malaise after surging to more than $5,000 on September 2 and then promptly falling back from that level. [Ed note: Investing in cryptocoins or tokens is highly speculative and the market is largely unregulated. Anyone considering it should be prepared to lose their entire investment.] Following this decline, Bitcoin prices, along with the price of many other digital currencies, pushed higher, but encountered some difficulty as the regulatory environment for these digital assets became increasingly uncertain. Regulatory Crackdown Chinese authorities banned initial coin offerings (ICOs) on September 4, according to CoinDesk. This came after the nation's government officials investigated the exchanges, as well as them permitting no-fee trading, earlier this year. Later that month, China's already complex regulatory situation took a new turn when the nation's three largest exchanges announced that within the next few months, they would stop offering local trading, TechCrunch reported. Wait And See Now, many Bitcoin investors are adopting a "wait and see" approach to see what China does next, according to several analysts. "People are looking for clarity from China," said Arthur Hayes, co-founder and CEO of leveraged cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX. Traders are "evaluating" the effects that new restrictions will have on the markets, he added. Lucas Geiger, founder and CEO of Wireline, offered similar input, stating that "the regulation issues are casting a shadow" that likely worries those who are on "on the fence" about getting involved with cryptocurrencies. Ryan Rabaglia, head trader for Octagon Strategy, shed some light on how this "wait and see" situation was impacting markets, stating that traditional volume has fallen across the board. Regulatory Clarity These market observers may get the clarity they are looking for very soon, said Pawel Kuskowski, CEO & co-founder of Coinfirm, a blockchain and regulatory technology firm. "There are obviously some valid concerns from the regulators," he said, asserting that the industry is quickly learning the impact of these requirements. "So I think soon we see more and more 'traditional' players coming to this market and they will be strictly compliant," said Kuskowski. "This will push the price up." Tailwinds For Bitcoin Kuskowski is certainly not the only market observer who has asserted that regulation could have a positive effect on digital currency prices. Geiger, for example, spoke to the upward price movement that Bitcoin enjoyed earlier this year as Japan recognized the cryptocurrency as a legal payment method. "In my opinion the bull run coincided with positive regulatory information in the spring coming from Japan," a development that "brought new participants to the market." Geiger insisted that in recent months, digital currency prices have risen as investors have entered the market. A Healthy Pause While Bitcoin prices have been moving range-bound for the last few weeks, this period of relative calm has taken place after the digital asset enjoyed a meteoric rise, causing its price to surge more than 400% this year. After such a sharp climb, moving within a modest range could simply represent a healthy pause, said analysts. "Cryptos were probably a little ahead of themselves when BTC was trading toward $5,000," said Sean Walsh, partner at Redwood City Ventures. Tim Enneking, managing director of Crypto Asset Management, offered similar sentiment, stating that "it’s healthy to take a pause" after experiencing such sharp price increases. What The Future Holds Going forward, some analysts are very optimistic. Geiger has described the growth of the digital currency market as "structural," emphasizing that many players have been getting involved, causing the market to grow rapidly. Marshall Swatt, an entrepreneur who founded cryptocurrency exchange Coinsetter, which was acquired by Kraken, provided a bullish stance on these digital assets. Even though China was at one point considered the center of Bitcoin, Swatt asserted that cryptocurrencies will continue to grow regardless of what the Asian nation opts to do. One analyst, Kevin Zhou, had a more neutral stance on the matter. "I think it's a bit hard to say right now whether the bull market will resume or whether we are at an inflection point," said Zhou, co-founder of cryptocurrency trading fund Galois Capital. "We've been in a bull market all year and if we really hit an inflection point here, we could see a more sustained pullback in both severity and time." Disclosure: I own some Bitcoin and Ether. proudlyYoruba:Dear Lil Kesh, This Is Why You Don’t Have An Endorsement Deal - Opinion by Blackberrybabes. The other day, Lil Kesh complained to us that he hadn’t been able to get endorsements deals like other star artistes even after releasing close to five hits in less than two years in the music industry. Some people even said that’s the reason why he left Olamide’s label, blaming him for not doing enough in that regard. Mr Kesh, so you think Glo or MTN or Peak or Ribena will give you a deal when ALL you sing about is ghetto stuff? If he’s not singing about ‘Adenike the borrow poser’, Kesh will be singing about ‘bum-short’ or ‘weed’ or ‘gbese(trouble/debt)’. Are you the only musician that came out of the ghetto? Even Patoranking who once told us he used to sell plantain chips in Lagos traffic and lived in Ajegunle has rebranded himself and is now acting all Jamaican. Lil Kesh, continue to dey carry ghetto for head you hear? But as you do that, have it in mind that endorsements will mostly come from rat kill-and-dry manufacturers, Agbo/Jedi/sapele water makers association, Wrizler manufacturers or Okrika BBB(bum-short, bra and boxers) sellers union. Just keep it up okay? http://www.thenet.ng/2016/05/opinion-dear-lil-kesh-heres-why-you-dont-have-any-endorsement-deal/ |

It has been revealed that the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was almost shifting ground from absolute Biafra demand to restructuring before the army struck. The revelation was made yesterday by the deputy secretary, Igbo Leaders of Thought, Evang. Elliot Uko, who was present at the meeting between Nnamdi Kanu and South East governors. According to Uko in a statement issued in Enugu, leader of the Igbo Leaders of Thought, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, had convinced Kanu to drop his absolute demand for the Sovereign State of Biafra and accept restructuring. Kanu accepted but on the condition that he had to consult with other members of the group who might not be comfortable with unilateral decision by him. Uko’s statement reads: “The 30th of August, 2017 meeting between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and South East governors was historic in the sense that Prof. Ben Nwabueze made Kanu to adjust his position in a landmark development. “Because of Kanu’s deep respect for Prof. Ben Nwabueze, whom he trusts absolutely, Kanu accepted in principle Prof. Nwabueze’s proposal that IPOB accepts the restructuring of Nigeria and step down the agitation for secession. But the restructuring should be a return to the 1963 Constitution format. “Kanu, in reverence to Prof. Nwabueze, agreed in principle to the Nwabueze proposal, but insisted on discussing with and carrying along the entire leadership of the IPOB, both at home and in the Diaspora. “The meeting also agreed to meet again within days in order to fine tune and conclude the agreements. It was also agreed that IPOB will not disrupt any elections. “But most importantly, Kanu accepted Prof. Nwabueze’s suggestions that IPOB demands are not absolute. Meaning that the group will have to shift ground in subsequent meetings. “Kanu was cautious not to take solo decisions without carrying his group along, and therefore promised to bring the group’s leaders to the next meeting. It is therefore my considered opinion that those behind the military invasion and attacks are averse to peaceful resolution of the loss of confidence in Nigeria by millions of eastern youths and have chosen to sustain the status quo through force of arms.” Source: http://thenationonlineng.net/kanu-accepted-dropping-absolute-biafra-demand-army-struck/

Over ten drug-dealing suspects including a Nigerian national were arrested in recent drug raids in Thailand. Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakan told a press conference on Monday, in Bangkok that officers had so far this fiscal year confiscated 100 million yaba pills and more than 4,000 kilograms of “ice” worth Bt7.6 billion. Chalermkiat said police arrested Charles Ndubuisi Umemma, a 34-year-old Nigerian national, who was wanted on a court-ordered arrest warrant. Umemma, who was apprehended in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district on Saturday, September 16, faces charges of obtaining and possessing “ice” with intent to sell and send to Australia. Police had found that he tried to send 120 grams of “ice” to Sydney. Chalermkiat said Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) officers had arrested five Hmong suspects in Chiang Rai on Saturday while they were allegedly transporting 6,392,000 yaba pills from Chiang Rai to Ayutthaya in a 10-wheel truck. In another case, NSB officers on Monday morning arrested four suspects at a checkpoint on Phetchkasem Higheway in Chumphon’s Tha Sae district while they were transport 10 kilograms of “ice” and 200,000 yaba pills from Chiang Mai to a customer in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district. The suspects reportedly told police they were hired for Bt1 million to transport drugs. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1732932930082743&id=227193803990004

The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for his war against corruption and terrorism. He also told Buhari that leaders across the world respect him for giving Nigeria a positive image. Buhari’s Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement quoted Ban Ki-Moon as saying this during a bilateral meeting with the President on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York. The UN scribe said, “You are highly respected by world leaders, including myself. Your person has given your country a positive image.” He said the UN recognised the achievements of the Buhari administration against Boko Haram, urging that human rights be upheld always, to prevent a repeat of the scenario being witnessed in Syria. Ban Ki-moon also thanked the Nigerian leader for his commitment to issues on climate change, adding that the government should “own the Sustainable Development Goals,” for the good of its citizens.
