PoliticsReps Speaker: The Odds Against S/east, Favours S/west by Dotman01(op): 9:07am On May 08, 2011
THERE were very strong
indications yesterday that the
leadership of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, at its
meeting with President Goodluck
Jonathan during his retreat at
Obudu Ranch, Cross River State,
may have knocked out the
South-East from the race for the
speaker of the House of
Representatives for the 7th
Assembly on religious ground.
It was gathered that since the PDP
caucus is considering a Muslim for
the speakership, the coast is
almost clear for the South-West to
retain the position.
According to the arrangement,
because the North-Central is
tipped to retain the position of
the Senate president with Senator
David Mark being the most
favoured and being a Christian,
the president a Christian, vice
president a Muslim, the equation
would then be balanced with a
Muslim speaker.
The office of the deputy speaker,
with the zoning formula
reportedly agreed at the Obudu
meeting, is earmarked for the
North-West, the North-East gets
the office of the national chairman
of the PDP, while the South-East
gets the office of the Secretary to
the Government of the Federation
(SGF) and deputy Senate
president.
Also ahead of the composition of
the Federal Executive Council, FEC,
and Boards of federal
establishments, the leadership of
the PDP has written to state
chapters of the party to submit
ten names each for consideration.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that
the letters, signed by the deputy
national secretary, Dr. Musa
Babayo, have already been
dispatched to the states.
According to a source, the letters,
addressed to the state party
chairmen, were copied state
governors that have governors
on the platform of the PDP, just as
some stakeholders of the party in
the states among whom are
members of the Board of
Trustees, BoT, former governors,
members of the National
Executive Committee, NEC,
national vice chairmen of the
zones, among others, are also
expected to make inputs into
who makes the list from the
states.
Meanwhile, a deputy national
chairman of the PDP, Chief
Olabode George, says the
adoption of the current zoning of
the nation ’s top political offices
will guarantee peaceful co-
existence.
Also, contrary to the allegation
that he is fighting former
President Olusegun Obasanjo,
George said he bears no grudge
against him, saying, however,
that he was shocked that
Obasanjo could publicly deny
him by saying he is a criminal,
when he knew he (Bode George)
committed no crime.
In an interview with Sunday
Vanguard, the PDP chieftain said
the party has a tradition of
shifting the top political offices
whenever the office of the
president emerges from any part
of the country.
He said, “Traditionally, the culture
of the party is that there are six
positions that are always zoned.
The office of the president, vice-
president, Senate president, the
speaker of the House of
Representatives, the Secretary to
the Government of the Federation
and the national chairman of the
party, which is also in line with
the six geo-political zones.
That is why you see the past
leaders of the party sharing the
offices to guarantee the unity of
the country. This has made the
democracy of the party and that
of the country to last till this
moment. That is why we called it
‘ Turn by Turn Nigeria Limited.”
Commenting on his relationship
with Obasanjo, he said, “I do not
bear any grudge against Baba
Obasanjo, but I was shocked to
my bone marrow when he was
responding to allegations of
corruption against me which was
a political conspiracy against my
person. Well, when the time
comes, everything will be made
public. ”

hey, people are really silly o! Someone takes 30% of your revenue bacause he named himself 'asiwaju', and all u do is pray for him? BTW, if ACN thinks they can get more states, then they should think again, if they paraded akume, iyorchia ayu, audu ogbeh, onoja, waku, akaagerger, and could not get benue, then they should think again. In other states, they also paraded people like turaki, udoedehe, boni haruna, sekibo, ararume, udenwa & all other failed ex-PDP politicians an yet they made no impact. In anambra, dora lost with a margin of 400, if she was a PDP candidate, she would have beaten ngige hands down. So stop decieving urselves, ACN should try and get ondo first, which will be hard becos ondo people are not ready to surrender their treasury!
. . . to be honest wit u. . .there is no sense in wat u just typed.

Gbawe:
The SW , from 2003 to date, minus Lagos, has being in "mainstream politics" via PDP dominance in the region. What good did it do the SW? Instead SW States that were previously functional regressed to become basket case testimony to thuggery and amala politics under PDP Jaguda Governors. Lets not talk just for the sake of talking .

Every State will still get the same allocation due to it worked out through the revenue sharing formula. The challenge for the administrators of each State , through inspired and people-oriented leadership, still remains the need to grow IGR (Internally generated revenue) , diversify economic activities that generate income , attract direct investment, increase employment, security , healthcare, develop infrastructure, etc.

There is little the FG can do to help indolent administrators whose only claim to fame is to be part of "mainstream politics" via being PDP members. Similarly , there is little the Government can do, unless we are back in OBJ's uber-vengeful days, to impede the progress of non-PDP States under inspired and dynamic leadership as we see with lagos State. When we now talk about an alliance of like-minded States with similar goals , factoring in the notion of cooperation and productive interdependence, then I dont see any disadvantage of not being with the PDP or not having legislative/federal influence . Besides, most of you arguing in favour of the PDP today will be the ones , tomorrow, harping on about "true federalism" and "regional autonomy that allows every region to grow at their own pace unimpeded by the regressive centre" .
. . . God bless u

When i said the violence was probably sponsored by pdp inorder to discredit Buhari, everybody was on my neck. With the comments from both sides ie Buhari and the pdp governors up north. One can safely conclude that the violence were sponsored, while the former has come out to dissociate himself /condemn the killings, the later is trying to justify the killing of innocent corpers with an attack that occured in 1979, so sad.

PoliticsI Was Attacked As A Corps Memberin Ibadan –yuguda by Dotman01(op): 1:23am On Apr 29, 2011
The Governor of Bauchi State, Malam
Isa Yuguda, stunned journalists at the
Government House, Bauchi, on
Thursday when he said he too was
attacked as a member of the National
Youth Service Corps in Ibadan.
Yuguda reasoned that the corps
members, who were murdered last
week in the state, only fulfilled their
destinies.
He spoke just as the rescheduled
governorship and National Assembly
elections in the state was
characterised by low turnout of
voters.
Addressing journalists after casting
his vote at Shadawanka Primary
School, the governor blamed the
Independent National Electoral
Commission for not providing
adequate security for the corps
members.
Yuguda was reacting to a question
that bordered on the brutal murder
of non-indigenes, including at least
nine corps members, in his domain
when rioters overran the state after
President Goodluck Jonathan was
declared winner of the presidential
election. Over 50 people were
reportedly killed during the violence
while 90 churches were also burnt.
He said, “They (corps members) were
destined to experience what they
experienced. Nobody can run away
from destiny. When they were
serving me, they were the happiest in
Nigeria.
“Immediately I handed them over to
INEC, it was the responsibility of INEC
to protect them. They were not the
only ones affected. My own house
was burnt; they almost lynched my
first son. It is part of their destiny. I
was also attacked as a corps member
in Ibadan in 1979.
“They were attacked on the services
of INEC.”
The governor, who said what
happened should not be seen as a
reflection of the state, declared that
the state should be commended for
having the best brains in security
management.
He described the development as
unfortunate, saying the victims were
serving the nation during the attack.
He said, “What happened last week
was a tragedy, with the killing of
Christians, Muslims, burning of
churches, mosques and the
destruction of innocent people ’s
property. But what happened in
Bauchi is far less than what
happened in some other states. What
happened in Bauchi only lasted for
one day. ”
Meanwhile, the rescheduled
governorship and House of Assembly
elections in the state was
characterised by an extremely low
turnout of voters as supporters of
opposition parties in the state
practically abandoned the polling
units for the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party.
Our correspondent, who went round
some of the polling units as early as
8.30am, observed that only a few
voters and agents, representing the
PDP, came out to participate in the
accreditation contrary to the usual
crowd that gathered before 7.00am
during the previous elections.
The election was generally peaceful
and anti-riot policemen were
stationed in strategic places in the
town to forestall possible breakdown
of law and order.
In one of the units located inside
Tropical Hotel, our correspondent
gathered that as at 9.15am, only
about 35 people had been accredited
out of 1,110 registered voters.
