It is not rocket science! If the marketers cannot sell at a profit, that is, they have to sell the petrol lower than the cost it takes to get the petrol to the pumps, then they are no longer a business but a charity!

You cannot fix pump price and then create inefficiencies in the system that makes the sales price higher than the fixed price!

The problem starts with the flawed pricing template, then the poor road networks, using tankers to distribute fuel using diesel trucks. Don’t forget diesel is fully deregulated so the price has skyrocketed so bridging cost has gone up which isn’t factored into the pricing template.

Marketers cannot break even so they stop lifting. The ones that lift either adjust their pumps or sell it to black marketers so they can break even!

Solution: Refine locally, improve the transportation network… use the rail lines to move products where possible…

If you want to retain the subsidy, use actual data! You cannot peg a daily consumption based on assumption and use that to compute subsidy… else remove the subsidy!! The money saved must be used judiciously

This is the most prolonged fuel crisis the country has had since I can remember.
No government was this clueless and no government has been so helpless that marketers raise prices by themselves without government giving the go-ahead!

Funny thing is Nigerians are tired and will pay any amount to have fuel … this wasn’t the case when in 2011 the administration raised prices and everyone had an erection and occupied everywhere! The agitators are the ones in power today and have nearly tripled prices.
