So Sisikill. . . .are you some kinda connoisseur of Northern Nigerian artefacts
or ur interest is more errr wetin be the word sef hereditary??

MC Usman:
Despite our culture kind of mixed with Islamic norms, yet we still have distinct cultural and traditional values that are entirely indigenous. Our Poetry exists in an oral tradition, as practiced by the praise singers and the oral historians, and also in the written tradition of the learned. Just like inn other west African countries, lutes  & other music instruments, which include drums as well as string is an integral part of Hausa Music and something is purely native.

Tourist despite terrorist attack and kidnapping still flock the desert oasis and pyramids of Egypt as well as other Arab countries.
Even without the so call violence and anachronistic religious mindset I can not see tourist on the streets of southern cities in Nigeria.

The simple reasons why it is easy to sight a tourist in all Western African countries than in Nigeria is because of one problem. High Crime rate.

A Whiteman in respective of his country or status is a must target once he is outside the confine and security of his hotel.
On the other hand a tourist in other west African countries can be seen walking freeing in cities and villages.
Well said, but you cannot discount the recent surge of economic tourism if u like that has flowed into the South.

Besides, the South is not littered with anything remotely interesting to a tourist. the architecture is pretty mundane,
and the history a lot less grandiose and more fragmented than the wholesale jihadist revolution that occured in the
North.
Politics › Re: Mantu And Ali To Become Ministers? by doyin13(m): 2:07pm On Oct 08, 2008
Now what I would say is, whatever kinda media blanket, enforced or voluntary
that has immobilised the outgoing ministers, should please be removed.

Say what you like about Obj, his garrulousness, unfortunate at times, created
a positive perception, where people felt the country was going somewhere.

The country needs ministers that will adequately tell a positive story and lift spirits
that have been down for the past year or so of the Yaradua administration.

Culture › Re: Pictures, Slight And Sound Of Northern Nigeria. by doyin13(m): 1:41pm On Oct 08, 2008
Okay this is all well and good. . .

But on the other hand, Northerners in Nigeria will argue that this
cultural heritage is firmly linked with its Islamic and Arab roots, hence
the need for Sharia etc.

I would argue though there is contrary evidence from say Senegal where
culturally they have been able to safeguard their heritage without the recourse
to violence and an anachronistic religious mindset.

As a matter of fact this regression might be the reason why a tourist would rather
head to the the other West African countries of similar ilk than they would the North.

And as these pictures show, its quite a shame
Culture › Re: Pictures, Slight And Sound Of Northern Nigeria. by doyin13(m): 12:04pm On Oct 08, 2008
I must say, the architecture is truly impressive. . . .They have a quirkiness
almost reminiscent of Barcelona's Gaudi.

Its a shame we do not see modern developments on such beautiful themes

None of the ghastly gross tasteless buildings that all these thieves have put up
in our metropolis.

But someone explain to me why Northern music is more akin to Ethiopia's than
closer neighbours such as the Kora influenced Niger or Mali or Senegal

with that of the Horn of Africa especially Ethiopia than it does with close neighbours
like Mali or Niger. angry angry angry What's with the synthesizer na sad

Sports › Re: Man City Fans Only. by doyin13(m): 11:02am On Oct 06, 2008
City still has a long way to go, and even before this match I knew
the hype over Robinho's arrival would soon die down

The boy is a letdown. His game has regressed since his time at Santos.
Holds on to the ball too long and seems to want to lord it on the field
like a star.

The real steal for Man City has been SWP, although yesterday's game
wasn't his best.

A significant area of weakness for the team is at the defensive midfield position
where Kompany's distribution is pretty atrocious.

Well there is a lot of money in the kitty, January will certainly be interesting
in the blue half of Manchester.

Not as creative as you think  - no one in his right mind would play Van Hoiijdonk on the wing, thats akin to playing Shearer as a winger.

Van Bommel at CB is also a bit tenuous. Nice attempt though.

So are the metal scrappers here trying to insinuate making a film
beyond a two week period confers some sort of certified quality.

I would think not. . . .There are numerous examples in Hollwood
and especially Europe of films made within such short time frames and have
proved to be of exceptional quality.

Micheal Hanekes films come to mind.

I think the problem with Nollywood is the blockbuster mentality. A penchant for films
with the Rambo soundtrack and punchline or Celine Dion accompaniments.

A good focused script will always help detract the audience from a flawed technical production.
