Both Prof Ladipo nd Hassan are right.Buhari is semi literate.Buhari may have gained admission into Defence Academy with O/level or modern 7 during his time.He has failed to attend elite academics institutions that could award him qualifications that literate people are known for.Obasanjo has been attending such institutions since after leaving d presidency.Qual like Bsc,Bed,LLb,Msc,Phd etc are what make one literate not military courses known to be useful in military circles or at most chief security jobs outside d military.Military courses are not academics subjects.Thank God that NDA is now a university. All previos Head of state before 1987 when NDA becomes university got Nig Def Academy Cert of Education (NDACE) which was not runing during Buhari's time. Therefore Buhari is at most a schl cert holder and therefore qual as semi literate. Its a pity that an LLb holder accept to serve him. Osinbajo may not know his onus
I pity educated 'illiterates' like you.Your own literacy is defined by university education.Hear your self again:''military courses are not academic subjects''

Let's go by your own definition of literacy:(Google is your friend, please check for the true meaning of literacy!)

Even if you are displaying your ignorance of a US military school Buhari attended, offering an equivalent of MSc.Would you further dislpay your ignorance(or is it illiteracy?) of the fact that Nigeria Defense Academy offers BSc?

I just hope that we would not allow parochial sentiments to override our sense of literacy!

GEJ should call his men to order. The unity of this country is far more important than any political ambition!

Fani-kayode urgently needs psychiatric care.

People like him should be put in an isolated room so that they do not further create hatred among Muslim and Christians. It is very sad that GEJ who is suppose to be a leader of all(Muslims and Christians) cannot at least call this mad man to order for the sake of Nigeria's unity, which is far more important than politics and self ambition.

We all know the origin of Boko Haram, which could be traced back to so many years and which has now become internationalised. Buhari had to quash a similar terrorist group,Maitasene ,very deadly, in those days of his military rule.

I invoke the wrath of GOD on those who would want to divide Nigeria along religious lines ,because of politics and self aggrandizement.

However I remain hopeful in the unity of Nigeria because true statesmen and nationalists are not towing the path of Fani-Kayode,who is simply a mad man that should be ignored.

so what the datolee have shown represent the facts and nothing but the facts.
Another mischief.

Why are you deceiving yourself?

What was the price of oil in 1983-85?(about $27) compare to GEJ's administration that averaged about $100 before now?A whopping 270% increase!

Are you aware that due to the enormous revenue from oil during GEJ administration(strictly due to high oil price and not any economic prowess),our very high foreign reserves was being used to stabilise the forex rate. Are you awarehuhhuh??

Yet the official exhange rate worsened from 151 in 2011 to 168 in 2014.

Even at that on a weighted scale,Buhari's administration performed better!

datolee:
Sometimes I feel for the “poor” Nigeria voters who are constantly fed with half-truth and in some instances, outright lies. We are at it again, being told how perfect, stable Naira was under Buhari. To even quote GMB, . http://www.thecable.ng/exclusive-interview-im-opposed-muslim-muslim-ticket-says-buhari/2

Two things are involved here:

1. At no point during the administration of IBB was naira N80 to a dollar, the highest it was at parallel market was N21.90

2. When Buhari took over in 1983, the Naira was exchanging for N 0.724 to a dollar, by the time he left office, the Naira was exchanging at between N1.5 to 1.7 in the parallel market. We will make use of the N1.5 exchange rate.
From 1983 to 1985, the Naira moved from 0.724 to 1.5 representing a 107% depreciation of the Naira!

The question therefore, with 107% depreciation of naira from 1983 to 1985, how stable was the naira under Buhari?
This is mischief at its peak!Deliberately comparing official rate with parallel rate, wow!

For the lovers of truth, the Naira moved from an official rate of 0.724 in 1983,to an official rate of 0.894 in 1985.(source www.en.wikipedia.org)

The 1983 corresponding black market rate is not available,to compare with the 1985 figure of 1.7. But it would not be too far from say 1.6.

The writer is the one feeding Nigerians with half-truths and lies!

You cannot interpret a statement more than the intention of the writer.Comparing Buhari with Mandela is in terms of AGE only.It would be suicidal to do otherwise!

And in terms of nationwide political acceptability,Buhari is superior to Fashola or Tambuwal. You cannot push over a general that pulled over 12million votes under a political party that was barely six months hold!

If not for religious sentiments(I weep for Nigeria!),the pairing of the two would have been great.

Let us commend APC for what they have done so far. There is no perfect choice.Which ever way, there would always be complaint.

Politics › Buhari In Quest To Secure Nigeria by Doyin2(op): 10:05pm On Dec 13, 2014
INTERVIEW

Buhari: Nigeria Will Be Secure Under My Leadership

The key issues facing Nigeria obviously are security, corruption and governance. I believe your last beat as a serving general before you became head of state was GOC Jos Military Command. As the then GOC Jos, the current North-east was under your command. Given what is happening today, given the onslaught of Boko Haram, how would you have prosecuted the war differently?

Differently? Certainly something has to be done first to secure that part of the country, which is virtually under Boko Haram. I have the background information of what happened in the North-east then as the GOC in Jos back in 1982-83. You would recall the Chadian troops made an incursion into Nigerian territory. The United States then asked (former President Shehu) Shagari to help Chadian President (Hissene) Habre because Habre was suspected of being used to destabilise Libya. Oil had not been discovered in Chad then and the country was a bit poor. So the president agreed to provide petroleum products to Chad. All the tankers were lined up and were providing fuel to Chad. And Habre decided at that it time to attack Nigeria and killed our soldiers, took some of our military hardware and I was extremely concerned. I flew into Lagos, saw the Chief of Army Staff, General (Inuwa) Wushishi then, and I moved into Maiduguri. That was the last time, until recently, in whatever form the Chadian troops dared Nigeria. I have also been a governor in that area, the North-east.

The question is how did Boko Haram start, because we have to know how it started before we can effectively get rid of it. Just like how did the Niger Delta militants start in the South-south. Politicians use unemployed youths as vanguards, they called them ‘Ecomog’ in the North-east then. One of their leaders called Yusuf, a young charismatic man, tried to give it a religious tinge but unfortunately the chaps were badly handled by the security forces - a combination of the police and the military. There was a small demonstration by members of the sect on motorcycles over the death of one of them accompanying a corpse and seven of them were shot dead. Of course they were not wearing protective helmets. Now this is an ordinary offence in this country and it was easy to handle. Just arrest the people, take them to a police station and charge them to court the following day and fines could be imposed. But instead, they chose to shoot them. From there, Boko Haram really started and they have never looked back. And once the police couldn't handle the situation, according to the Nigerian internal security operations, they handed the matter over to the military. The army commander then did extremely well. The GOC of Third Armoured Division in charge of the command went and looked for Yusuf, got him and handed Yusuf to the police. The police killed Yusuf, his in-law and levelled their houses and since then Boko Haram got out of hand.

What would I do differently? It is to make the military much more effective in their operations. If we get the opportunity, we will make the Nigerian military capable again because if we could go through ECOMOG forces to stabilise troubled zones and go to Darfur and to other places of the world and perform, why can’t we perform at home when our national sovereignty is being threatened? That is what we will do differently, to make Nigerian military capable again.

The Nigerian military became incapable following a failed coup against your successor, General Babangida. And following the failed coup, the command and control of the army decided, as it were, to disarm the army so that they were not able to take on the political leadership of the military at the time. We heard some of our helicopters were even given out to Congo and other countries, so that the army would not have the weapons. Since then, the army has not been equipped. So is it a question of lack of equipment, a question of will or that of rot over the years?

I think it is a question of the rot over the years, because the most important thing is the intelligence. Having known how the Boko Haram developed, what I would have personally done differently would be to get the Presidents of Cameroun, Chad and Niger together to say, ‘look our borders are porous and that we are not able to effectively protect them and monitor movements of people in and out of our territory, but please make sure that you do not provide training facilities or allow people to be coming into the county.’ The practical possibility of guarding our border from Lake Chad area to Sokoto is nil. If you look at that area, you cannot stop the donkeys, the oxen, the camels and human beings from crossing that border. It is impossible, unless you will line up all the Nigerian population, which is not possible. But firstly you have to reach an agreement with your neighbors. As we talk now, Cameroun seems to be fighting Boko Haram more effectively than Nigeria, from what I read in newspapers. You cannot change the Nigerian military overnight but still, but I think there are trained officers who can train the men and you can get the weapons legally. There are government rules and regulations and as an elected government, the people or countries that normally provide you with weapons will not refuse to provide the weapons because it is an internal operation. We are not attacking anybody, rather we are being attacked. So countries that have been providing us with military hardware will have sympathy for us and provide us with weapons. We do not have to change money in the black market or take it from the vault of the central bank in a hired aircraft and say you are going to buy weapons. This is unusual, very, very unusual as government has legal ways of how to source arms and ammunition. Look at how we fought a serious civil war for 30 months without borrowing a kobo. General Gowon was the head of state then, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was the Minister of Finance and deputy chairman of the Federal Executive Council. We fought the civil war without borrowing a kobo. Now you want to chase insurgents after spending what they have spent, they are rushing to the National Assembly for permission to borrow $1 billion, there is a problem of leadership and I think everybody knows it.

But how will you make the US to supply us arms given the accusations against the military and how will you get Cameroun to cooperate more given the crisis over Bakassi and the border demarcation, bearing in mind their refusal to cooperate up till now?

On the question of the US selling arms to us, the US can influence our traditional arms suppliers but the US is probably not a major supplier of arms to Nigeria as far as I can recall – right from independence till now. But they can influence those that can supply arms to us. As you know, the black market of sourcing military hardware has never been stopped even with international pressure. I think for the weapons we need to fight Boko Haram, a group of people taking arms against the country. I do not think we need weapons of the magnitude people are talking about. Of course, the military was disarmed in order to stabilise democracy. But how can I stabilise the army and get the cooperation of the US to help us and at least to give us the moral support and allow our traditional arms suppliers – France, United Kingdom and Russia – to give facilities for maintaining those weapons like tanks and armoured cars? I believe the US will not stand in the way of a democratic country getting supply of weapons and ammunition to defend itself against internal or even external aggression. As I have said earlier, Cameroun is even fighting Boko Haram more effectively than us. If you would recall that there were some kidnappers that took away the wife of a (vice prime) minister but the Camerounian law enforcement agency got her released.

Given your experience in the military, what can you point to as the problem with the military in challenging Boko Haram?

I think what I can do is appeal to the patriotic sense of the military. The military's constitutional role is to protect this country from external aggression and I mentioned earlier on, even in internal operations, the police are allowed to come in at the initial stage but once things are bad, then the military has to come in, just as it is happening now in the North-east. I believe the military would like to preserve a strong Nigeria because if they allow Nigeria to be balkanised, they will be the first to lose their security because I do not see any part of a balkanised Nigeria that will like to get a general or colonel to be in charge, and you don't talk about pension or even gratuity. So there will be total insecurity if they allow anything to happen to Nigeria. I think the situation needs a leadership that will give the military the backing in terms of sourcing the weapons and ammunition to fight. And Nigeria, no matter how oil prices have fallen, will source enough funds to fight the insurgents.

Politics › Re: NNPC Questions Missing $2.8bn Oil Money During Buhari's Tenure As Minister by Doyin2(m): 9:37pm On Dec 13, 2014
Sunnybobo3:
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has denied Muhammadu Buhari’s allegation that the corporation keeps two accounts and asked the former head of state to confirm rumours that $2.8bn was missing when he was minister of petroleum in 1977. Buhari, in his acceptance speech after being nominated the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, had said the NNPC maintains two different accounts ─ the one for the public and the other for insiders. In a statement issued on Friday by Ohi Alegbe, NNPC’s group general manager for group public affairs, the corporation accused Buhari of peddling false information. He said: “It is sad that General Buhari, one of the founding fathers of the NNPC who himself has tasted of the virulent but false allegations deliberately concocted to cast the Corporation and the public sector management of the nation’s oil and gas industry in bad light, would be the one to allege that NNPC runs two sets of account books ‘one for public consumption and another for insiders’. “We consider General Buhari’s allegation in bad taste as it is nothing but a deliberate political mischief calculated to cast the Corporation in opprobrium all in a bid to shore up his political capital. “We find it difficult to understand how a former Head of State who has also served as Minister of Petroleum Resources could believe that NNPC keeps two sets of account books to perpetrate fraud, knowing that NNPC is the most audited and scrutinized agency in the country. “In the past one year alone, the Corporation has had its books scrutinized and audited by the Senate Committee on Finance and an external auditor, PriceWaterhouseCooper (PWC). Is it possible for the accounting discrepancies insinuated by General Buhari to escape the attention of such internationally acclaimed auditors? And in any case, why would an alleged fraudulent Corporation keep two sets of accounting books knowing that such could be used as evidence against it? “We hereby state emphatically that NNPC neither keeps two sets of account books nor is aware of the existence of such as the Corporation is run in line with international best practice.”

In 1977, the military head of state, Lt. Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, set up a crude oil sales tribunal to investigate the operations of the Nigerian National Oil Company (NNOC, which metamorphosed into NNPC same year). The tribunal found out that in three years, NNOC had failed to collect its equity share of oil produced by Shell, Mobil and Gulf. As a joint venture partner, NNOC was entitled to 182.95 million barrels of oil production. But NNOC did not find buyers for its own share, thereby losing a potential income of $2.8 billion. But it was instead reported by the media that $2.8 billion was missing.

Plug wastage, reduce cost of governance, diversify(while will not mature any time soon) and use our position in OPEC to stabilize Oil prices(which is fairly stable now)! His ability to summarize this is Simple terms earns him a 60%

2: Security: "The Soldiers are complaining of not having enough Weaponry despite the huge disbursements from the FG" "Nigeria would have Initiated Chad, Cameroun and Niger earlier before now"

#Strength: He won the Hearts of the Military by absolving them of blame( smart political move) and laid the blame indirectly on the Govt and Military Hqtrs for siphoning funds meant for combat! He Bolstered this assertion further by saying "Nigeria didn't borrow a Dime while fighting the Civil War, hence a $1Billion Loan is unjustifiable". This also exposes the corruption that is Sabotaging the War effort! I'll give him a 70% in this Regard

#Weakness: The Government is already implementing some of his suggestions though late, thus requiring the need for brand new ideas which he lacked! He lost 30% there!

3. Flexibility: "I cannot work outside the Decision of my Party", "I signed the Undertaking..."

#Strength: it shows he is willing to work as a team with others who may not share similar Ideals as his! That shows Team spirit and and ability to defer to the Decisions of the Party Hierarchy! For a Man who has been seen as an Autocrat! I think he has proven his skeptics wrong! I give him a 100% in this regard

#Weakness: None!

4. Patriotic: "I do not regret truncating the Shagari Regime"
I think that was his finest moment! Any Admission of regret would have automatically ended his political career!

#Strength: 'Democracy is not an avenue to destroy institutions and watch unprecedented Stealing"! The events in Egypt, Thailand, Burkina Faso and soon Togo all vindicate him! He values State institutions much more than anything and would do anything necessary to protect it!
(This is the reason why Sisi and Zida still enjoy 90% popularity in their countries despite toppling democratic regimes)! I score him an 60% in this regard!

#Weakness: He should have used events in other countries and the antecedents of his era to back his assertion! He would have used the opportunity to brag about his achievements within his 18month rule as against the Shagari regime! It cost him 40%

The Man looked kinda Frail though!]

Wish him the Best!

The Naira was devalued by only 8% which is very much lower than the percentage drop in oil prices.

Fashola is quite right!

If APC is Boko Haram as the wicked propagandist are claiming(even though we know that a PDP senator is in court for allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram),then please let us vote for APC so that we can have peace in our land.

But one thing is certain,Buhari is a nationalist who fought for the unity of Nigeria. The same leader that crushed the Maitasine(Boko Haram of those days) .

Buhari is also capable of crushing terrorists like Boko Haram. He has done it before he will surely do it again.Corrupt leaders like IBB did not allow him to do to Nigeria what Rawlings did to Ghana.

What many PDP propagandist do not understand is that most muslims are ready to crush Boko Haram, because their extremist view do not represent the true Islam and they are contaminating the religion.

Enough of religious propaganda that has divided us more than ever before.

Many Christians would rather live in Dubai,a confirmed Islamic city than to suffer in Nigeria. Mischief makers should please keep quite.

WE should be asking the PDP government since 1999,the following questions:

1.Why is Nigeria the only member of OPEC importing fuel? religion?

2.Why are we the only rated poor member of OPEC? religion?

3.Why only 4000 megawatts of electricity since 1999? religion?

4.Why interest rate averaging 25%.arguably the worst in the world? religion?

5.Why exchange rate of about N170 to the dollar, compared to the rate as at 1999? religion?

6.Most Opec members have single or at most double digit exchange rate against the dollar,Why is Nigeria the only member with 3 digits at about N170!! why? Religion?

7.Why the highest rate of unemployment since 1999? Religion?

8.After 15 years, our economy is still ADVERSELY affected by oil prices. Is 15 years not enough to diversify an economy? If not, then the next 4 years would be another waste!

The questions are endless!

I laugh when people clap for a government that builds road, schools, hospitals, make fuel regularly available through importation, etc. For God's sake, our monies were budgeted for these activities!

Nigeria has since(even before 1999) became the largest economy of Africa, because of her large population(many more people involved in economic activity) and huge oil revenue. It is not as a result of any deliberate economic, developmental or transformation agenda. But because economic development(virility) is much more important than economic growth(size),the revaluation or re-basement of our assets by past governments, was never a priority.

So how would you rate PDP government based on basic developmental indices of:

1.Rate of unemployment
2.Currency exchange rate
3.Interest rate
4.Inflation
5.Power
6.Corruption
7.Purchasing power of citizens
8.Standard of living index
9.Security

The indices are endless!

Christians,Muslims or otherwise,we are all Nigerians!

Nigeria must not remain stagnant because of religious or ethnic affiliation!

Politics › Re: IG Of Police Says ‘thugs’ Tried To Enter NASS, Insists Tambuwal Is Not Speaker by Doyin2(m): 11:22am On Nov 27, 2014
Only the speaker and perhaps the court can cause Tambuwal to vacate his seat and not the IGP.According to section 68(2) of the constitution:

68(2)'' The President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, shall give effect to the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, so however that the President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives or a member shall first present evidence satisfactory to the House concerned that any of the provisions of that subsection has become applicable in respect of that member.''

Although the constitution is silent on what happens if the speaker is the one affected, only the court can remove the speaker it it declares that Tambuwal's claim of a division of PDP in Sokoto is not tenable.

Please enough of constitutional rascality!

Fellow Nigerians!

Please we must not allow mischievous elements to use religion to further divide Nigerians along religious lines.Nigeria need a strong opposition party to strengthen her democracy. Those who want to weaken the major opposition party using religion are the real enemies of Nigeria.

We all know that call for amnesty and dialogue with the devilish Boko Haram, cuts across religious, ethnic and political lines. The timing of the calls also deferred and most were made long before things got out of hand, and the killings became more devilish.

I would advise the moderators of this forum to delete this mischievous thread immediately.

Politics › Re: Tambuwals Name And Picture Removed From Nass Website by Doyin2(m): 1:56pm On Oct 31, 2014
The constitution of Nigeria is very clear. Tambuwal is still the speaker of the house!

Section 68(1) and 68(2) should be read together:

68. (1) A member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives shall vacate his seat in the House of which he is a member if -
(a) he becomes a member of another legislative house.
(b) any other circumstances arise that, if he were not a member of the Senate or the House of Representatives, would cause him to be disqualified for election as a member;
(c) he ceases to be a citizen of Nigeria;
(d) he becomes President, Vice-President, Governor, Deputy Governor or a Minister of the Government of the Federation or a Commissioner of the Government of a State or a Special Adviser.
(e) save as otherwise prescribed by this Constitution, he becomes a member of a commission or other body established by this Constitution or by any other law.
(f) without just cause he is absent from meetings of the House of which he is a member for a period amounting in the aggregate to more than one-third of the total number of days during which the House meets in any one year;
(g) being a person whose election to the House was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that House was elected;

Provided that his membership of the latter political party is not as a result of a division in the political party of which he was previously a member or of a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored; or
(h) the President of the Senate or, as the case may be, the Speaker of the House of Representatives receives a certificate under the hand of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission stating that the provisions of section 69 of this Constitution have been complied with in respect of the recall of that member.

(2) The President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, shall give effect to the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, so however that the President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives or a member shall first present evidence satisfactory to the House concerned that any of the provisions of that subsection has become applicable in respect of that member.

The intention of the law is also clear.According to section 68(2),Only the speaker SHALL implement section 68(1),upon any other member of the house.

I am of the humble opinion that the law intended to distinguish the SPEAKER from an ordinary member of the house.
