My Trip to Federal College Of Wildlife Management
Recently i went to a trip to Federal College Of Wildlife Management in New-Bussa, Borgu LGA, Niger State. The aim of the trip was to carryout research on the flora(plants) and fauna(animals) in that area.
The journey from Kaduna to there was close to 8hours, mehn it was exhausting. The road we followed was kinda bad. I lodge at a hotel that day and the next day i resumed for research.
I was given a tour by a Wildlife guard throughout the area, it is not that big. It was then i learned that the Federal College of Wildlife Management, New-Bussa was established in 1978 to train technical and sub-technical staff in the area of Wildlife conservation and management. It has its first intake of students on the 17th March, 1980.
The trainees (Wildlife Guards and Scouts) usually undergo a six month course in Wildlife Conservation and Management. The College gives admission for National and Higher National Diploma.
I was able to snap pictures in the zoo and wildlife museum but i was not allowed to snap the museum of Nigerian National history.

Dpharmacist: 15 Myths & Facts About Breastfeeding Your Baby
Every new mother finds themselves the recipient of a world of advice – some sound and others, unintentionally, not so – from family and well-wishers. The trouble one faces, when separating the truth from the chaff, is that many myths are steeped in partly truthful knowledge.
Here are some of the myths to watch out for!
Myth 1 – Women With Smaller Breasts Will Not Produce Enough Milk For The Baby Fact: Size doesn’t affect the amount of milk you produce in any way. In fact, the breast tissue that is required in nursing your child grows as a response to your pregnancy (It is part of the many bodily changes you will have experienced). It is in this newly developed tissue that milk ducts are located and not in the fatty tissue that is responsible for size. Contrary to this myth, most women actually produce an overabundance of milk. In fact, milk production is largely determined by the stimulation of your mammary glands and proper latching of the baby when feeding. This is established in the first two weeks after your delivery.
Myth 2 – It Is Normal For Breast Feeding To Hurt Fact: Though new mothers may almost certainly experience some tenderness when they have just begun breastfeeding, it should be temporary and not last for more than a few days. Usually, if soreness persists, it is caused due to improper latching and limiting your breastfeeding time will not help you recover from it. This is why most experts opine that a new mother should be trained on how to breastfeed correctly.
Myth 3 – You Will Not Produce Enough Milk During The First Three To Four Days Fact: This is technically true. However, it implies the false notion that there needs to be a lot of milk production during these days. The truth of it is that in the first few days, mommies produce “ colostrum”, which is thicker than normal milk and contains a rich load of antibodies, enzymes, growth factors and immunoglobulins that protect the newborn. Colostrum is only required by the baby in small doses as compared to regular milk due to its powerful nourishing potency.
Myth 4 – Your Nipples Should Be Washed Before Every Feeding Fact: Among breastfeeding myths and truths this myth, at first glance, seems to hold water more than most others. Also, when one looks at the common instructions regarding sterilising and thoroughly washing baby bottles before each feed this logic may seem to naturally follow. However, baby formula does not contain natural antibodies that actively protect the baby against infection. Apart from unnecessarily complicating the natural process of breastfeeding, washing your nipples could also rid it of natural protective oils.
Myth 5 – Breast Feeding Is Akin To Natural Contraception Fact: If you do not want to get pregnant, do not count on the fact that you are breastfeeding to be a reliable form of birth control. The truth behind the myth is that, if these three conditions are met: Your baby is exclusively breastfed (around the clock) It is less than 6 months since the delivery Your periods haven’t resumed Your body does have an extremely low chance of getting pregnant – it is 98% safe. However, this ‘lactation amenorrhea’ is highly dependent on the balance of hormones in your body and a reduction of breastfeeding time per day will soon affect your amenorrhea. Myth 6 – It Is Easier To Bottle Feed Than Breast Feed Fact: This might just come down to the subjectivity of the individual, but it, generally, should not be true. Difficulty in breastfeeding often arises from a poor start to nursing, where the mother and child are both unfamiliar with how proper latching can be attained.
Myth 7 – A Baby Should Be Fed Every Two Hours, Around The Clock Fact: Just like the myth right before this one, subjectivity could play a role in this. Just like us adults, babies too have their own individual eating patterns. This being said, it is true that many babies and moms fall into the routine of feeding once every 2 hours throughout the day and into the night. One way to look at whether your baby is feeding enough is to observe their “output”. Six wet diapers and two to three stools passed per day is an indication of a healthy baby.
Myth 8 – Modern Formulas Are Similar To Breast Milk Fact: This is false! Formulas are manufactured to imitate the contents of breast milk, but they do not contain any living cells, enzymes, antibodies or hormones. A mother’s breast milk changes to suit the changing needs of her baby while formula remains the same from week to week. Formulas are developed for “all” babies and therefore cannot serve the differences in the needs of any single baby. One breastfeeding weight loss myth says that stopping breastfeeding can help you lose your ‘baby weight’ acquired over the course of pregnancy. This is simply illogical, considering that a breastfeeding mother burns up to 500 or more calories per day simply by breastfeeding their child!
Myth 9 – Nursing Should Be Stopped If The Mother Has An Infection Fact : This is very rarely true. Common infections like fever are passed from the mother to her nursing child before she is even aware of having the infection. The baby’s protection depends on being breastfed, as they will have their mother’s immunity fighting for them too. This is because the mother’s well developed immune system can make antibodies to combat her infection much more easily than a child’s can and those antibodies are transmitted to the child through her natural breast milk.
Myth 10 – Nursing Should Be Stopped If You Contract A Breast Infection Or Have A Blocked Duct Fact: False. Indeed, the opposite is usually true! The natural way to open a blocked duct is to breastfeed as much as possible. Ducts become blocked when there is a build up of milk that occurs due to breastfeeding becoming less frequent. This could happen if your baby has their nutrition supplemented with solids or formula, or started taking longer naps or sleeps through the night. Blocked ducts may lead to breast infections; however, infection doesn’t make it unsafe for your baby. A breast infection is indicated by redness accompanied by soreness in your breast and development of fever or flu-like symptoms. You will need to take antibiotics to help with it, so do consult your doctor.
Myth 11 – If The Mother Has To Take Medicines, She Should Stop Breastfeeding Fact: Mostly False. Very few drugs taken by the mother could go on to actually harm the child, and those that may, usually have alternatives! When breastfeeding, a very small amount of the mother’s medication may end up reaching the child, but, as stated, mostly the drugs are safe, and the amounts transmitted are negligible.
Myth 12 – Exercise Could Lead To Sour Milk Fact: The theory behind this myth was that the high amounts of lactic acid produced due to exercise would lead to a sour taste in a mother’s milk. While that may be, studies show that babies don’t notice the difference. Saltiness, due to dried sweat on and around your nipples, caused by exercise, however, could put your child off. Also take care to only wear restrictive bras, such as your workout bra or underwire bras, for short periods of time only, as the tightness could lead to clogging of ducts.
Myth 13 – A Baby Should Be Nursed On Both Sides For 20 Minutes At A Time Fact: This is pointless! Your baby will not feed for the same amount of time every meal, just as you will eat more when you are hungry and less when you aren’t. Also, the better your child is latched on to your nipple, the longer they are going to feed, which will naturally make them less likely to feed as much or at all on the other side. If one side feels unevenly full, you could resort to pumping.
Myth 14 – Breast Feeding Babies Need Extra Vitamin D Fact: False. Babies are born with a liver rich in Vitamin D and also get some amounts of vitamin D through breast milk. Any more that may be required is absorbed from ultraviolet light outdoors (even in low light conditions of winter). They do not need exposure to sunlight daily. The only instance where supplementing your baby with vitamin D might become necessary is if the mother herself has a vitamin D deficiency during the course of the pregnancy.
Myth 15 – The Mother Should Eat Only Bland Foods During BreastFeeding Months Fact: Some foods such as shellfish, fish, soy, peanuts, etc. that are linked with allergies, could upset your baby’s stomach if they are born with an allergy. As for the taste of foods, differences in the taste of your milk are usually so slight that the baby wouldn’t notice. It would be prudent to keep a food diary. If your baby acts fussy about your milk anytime between two to twelve hours after eating a certain new type of food, then it could be the cause. Breastfeeding is an integral part of the relationship between a mother and her child. While some find this inconvenient to our modern, fast lifestyles, the truth is, breastfeeding is much more liberating than bottle feeding . One doesn’t need to carry around a bagful of equipment just to feed their baby. Human beings have been breastfeeding their offsprings for hundreds of thousands of years without any ill consequence intrinsic to the act. It is not just natural, it is a divine part of the experience that is motherhood. Thsnks for this |

Kalatium: Have you been Embarrassed by a soldier before? My horrible experience was on the day on my secondary school graduation in a Private School. The propietress decided to bring Soldiers to wart off anyone without graduation gown of which we the graduants were oblivious to. The instruction was that if you are not with graduation gown you will not enter. Unfortunately i was a culprit, i paid for my gown the day before but have not yet collected it. To my dismay when i went to the gate and was explaining to one of the soldiers my predicament, his colleageu without any form altercation or disharmony outragelously lash me with a two mouthed "koboko". I have never ran from being flogged like that day in my life. After a few minutes, i went to a civil defence officer closeby and was trying to explain the situation to him but the soldier that lashed me was saying if i try anything funny he will embarass me and my life a living hell. I was helpless and hopeless and the worst is that i was not with a phone. I had to borrow someone's phone and call my mom who was closeby. She came and stormed the place with outrage saying it was not fair for me to pay and still be denied entry. The soldiers started denying that i didn't explain it to them (this was a lie). I was finally allowed inside. After the graduation ceremony, the proprietress has promised us beforehand that we will be allowed to host a mini-party(we call it bash). This same proprietress ended up changing her mind that we won't be allowed to do that. We felt betrayed because every set before us had done that. We went in unison to plead with her but she refused and told us to leave the premises to our various homes. As if that was not enough, she told the soldier to evacuate us from the premises. You know how soldiers do now, they forcefully drove us out. In disgust, we became angry and there was an intense emotional outburst. I was the most angry, earlier i was embarassed by soldiers and now disappointed. I began telling them how one of the soldiers was very wicked. I never knew the soldier overheard me, he ordered me to follow him inside, that i was insulting a military man. I was tortured that day by both soldiers, after being bitten mercilessly i was told to do a rigorous frog jump. Afterwards i was allowed to go home. My back was in pain coupled with my knee. Damn! I was pissed off. Till date , anytime i see a soldier i will keep reminiscing what happened that day.
Have you been Embarrassed by a soldier before, share your story? |

Once you tell them, you will become the enemy that's wishing them death. The few years I practised in Nigeria were filled with frustrations. Once you tell a Nigerian he/she has tested positive, the next thing you'll hear is "God forbid", and you won't see them again. What outcome would one get in a country where people don't even believe they have the disease or that the disease exists? Too bad thats the country we find ourselves in |

It’s a skill we had to learn because, for centuries and had always pass it on from generation to generation, this is what is called the sisterhood. women have been marginalized and overlooked in our male-dominated culture.
Women are excellent at getting shit done. And one of the most effective ways that we’ve learned to accomplish our goals is by manipulating men into doing what we need them to do.
In fact, we’re so skilled at this, most times, men don’t even realize what we're doing. It’s like Inception . Women are so good at subtly pushing and herding their men that the men suddenly find themselves cleaning out the garage and thinking that it was their idea to do it.
It’s a powerful ability — one that women have to wield carefully, particularly when we're in a relationship. If you want to appreciate the full strategic power of the female will, here are 4 ways that women subtly control men without the men ever realizing it…
1. Women treat men like children Do men sometimes act like children? Totally. But that doesn’t mean that women should reinforce that behavior by pandering to it. When a woman reacts to a grown man like he’s a seven year old, she might feel frustrated, but, in reality, she’s trying to force his hand or force the outcome that she wants.
If a woman can’t trust her man enough to let him do the grocery shopping or fold the laundry, it’s not that he CAN’T do it. (He’s a grown-up. He can.) She just wants those tasks done EXACTLY how she wants.
So rather than just leaving him to his own devices, she steps in, which, ultimately, makes more work for her and reinforces the guy’s suspicions that he can’t even accomplish basic tasks on his own.
The woman controls the situation, but prevents it from ever improving. It’s a vicious circle. Women need to realize that four of the most controlling words we can say are “I’ll just do it.”
2. Women get QUIET. Women are ninja masters at this. If a man is frustrated and wants you to do something, normally, he’s going to just come out and say it. He might yell, he might whine, but, however he does it, men often have a hard time keeping their inner desires INSIDE. They want them to be expressed so they express them in the bluntest way possible.
Women, on the other hand, take a different — and probably WAY more effective — approach. We go silent. We stop talking. We get distant.
Women will often justify those cold silences by saying “I needed some time” or “I was processing things,” but, by refusing to engage, it leaves our men thinking “WHAT? What did I do?”
Those silences can get so uncomfortable that men quickly will do almost anything to end them. “Do you want me to admit I’m wrong? Change my shirt? Start going to the gym more? SAY SOMETHING!”
By refusing to express what we want, women make men almost desperate to comply with our wishes, if it will only mean that the silent treatment will end. It involves next to no talking and it’s staggeringly effective.
3. Women flatter men. Flattery is a useful tool to control most people, but it works particularly well on men. It appeals to two separate but powerful aspects of being a man — that men are raised with the (unrealistic) expectation that they can do anything AND that men are rarely complimented (beyond a stoic “Good job”).
But a woman’s flattery overwhelms both of those conditions with pandering and praise. “Honey, I’m not good with technology, can you figure out this remote for me?” “Babe, can you load up the car for me? The suitcases are so heavy and you’re so good at getting everything in there!” Granted, some of those compliments might be genuine, but it is still a form of control. The woman wants something accomplished, so she lavishes her man with praise, letting him know that he’s the BEST at doing whatever she wants done.
It’s probably not true. (She’s a grown woman. She can figure out a remote.) But the flattery is a proven way to get the man to do what she wants, so why not use it?
4. Women compare men to other men This kind of control technique is frequently used in parenting, but it’s actually much more effective when the involved parties are older. It’s the classic “look at that nice boy” strategy. A parent might use it to shame their teenager into working harder at home or academically.
“Look at Linda’s son, he has a 4.0 grade point average and works at the nursing home after-school every day!” The grown-up version of this occurs when a woman is unsatisfied with some aspect of the man in her life, so she openly starts making unflattering comparisons between her guy and other men in their lives.
“Bill just got a promotion… Roger is building that whole addition by himself… Rick goes to the gym 5 times a week and he loves it, never complains…” Statements like that not only shame her man into action, but they also prey on the man’s ego. Because it’s not just simple nagging. It’s saying “this other man is CLEARLY superior to you.” That can kill a man’s sense of self-worth and drive him to fight back against the comparison. These techniques are undeniably effective, but they beg the question — Is it worth manipulating and toying with a man’s ego just to get him to take his shoes off when he comes in the house?
Because being controlling isn’t always a good thing. Women need to realize that “with great power comes great responsibility” and, when possible, we should try to be open and direct with our men. Treat them like equal partners and see if you can compromise to get what you want from them. Source : A woman |

I saw a thread in front page talking about the emerging e-sim cards.
For those don't know what eSIM is. Let me share more light on it.
The Embedded SIM (e-SIM) is the next step in the evolution of SIM cards. Unlike the physical SIM, you do not need to insert an eSIM into your phone as it is already built into your smartphone, device or wearable. You simply activate the eSIM with your account profile and you are ready to enjoy all the services you normally would with a physical SIM.
Considering the benefits such as
1. e-SIMs allow you have more than one phone number associated to your smart device. They particularly useful for people who want to manage personal and business lines. 2. The possibility of losing or damaging your SIM is reduced because it is built into your device. 3. You no longer have to deal with cutting SIM cards or finding adapters. 4. It is extremely convenient for frequent travelers, making it easier to switch between network operators.
I think the eSIM will do a great job in revolutionizing telecommunications.
However most of the devices we use in Nigeria are not compatible with eSIM.
