The Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has declared war on The PUNCH Newspapers for reporting the views of opposition parties on happenings in the state. The governor, in a video clip watched by our correspondent in Osogbo on Tuesday, made the public declaration of war against The PUNCH Newspapers and Tribune Newspapers on September 8, during the commencement of the distribution of plastic chairs and desks to schools in the state. The ceremony was held on the premises of Adenle Middle School, Osogbo. Making an allusion to the media reports on the unpaid salary crisis in the state, the governor said The PUNCH and other newspapers supported his adversaries to lie against his government. He said, “They didn’t spare us on any platform. Even today, they lied against us and some shameless organs of mass communication supported them. “Say shame on them, shame! All of them and those who are supporting them. Some newspapers knew they were lying, yet they supported them. PUNCH reported last week Thursday that they had just released the money, the same PUNCH published today that we have kept the money for two months. Shame on all of them, shame! “Newspapers are meant to educate the people; they are not meant to incite the public against the government. Shame on PUNCH, shame on Tribune. I say it openly; let them challenge me. “The PUNCH Newspaper, Tribune Newspapers have declared war on our state and we shall not spare them. We shall not spare them; it’s war! “You can’t be attacking us and expect us to be quiet; we shall fight back. The time has come for us to fight back; we will fight back.” Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/aregbesola-declares-war-on-punch/

New incidences of bird flu have been recorded in Lagos State, with an estimated 60,000 birds already affected, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Executive Secretary of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Mr. Olugbenga Ogunsetan, confirmed this to NAN on Tuesday in Lagos. He said several poultry farms were affected by the avian influenza in Ikorodu area of the state. “Over 60,000 birds were lost in August after the avian influenza ravaged the farms. “This has largely affected production of poultry products and leading to price hike in the area,” Ogunsetan told NAN. Meanwhile, the state government said it was making arrangement with the Federal Government for compensation to the affected poultry farmers. The Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Olajide Basorun, who spoke on the compensation move, corroborated the severity claim by the PAN Scribe. He told NAN that compensating affected farmers would encourage others, who were afraid to report the case, to come forward. “The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, is already thinking of ways to support these farmers, whose poultry were affected by the scourge. “Many economies have shut down because of this avian influenza and these economies have dependants, which mean a lot of people have lost their livelihoods. “Government is mindful of that and is working out modalities to compensate the farmers so that others, who have the flu and have not reported or are under reporting, will be encouraged to come forward,” he said. The permanent secretary said government does not want a scenario were the farmers, who do not report, will sell their birds to unsuspecting public. He said where there was a reported case, the ministry had moved swiftly to conduct tests and depopulate such farm. The permanent secretary also allayed fear of possible spread, saying the disease had been contained. Basorun noted that the ministry would continue to encourage poultry farmers to report suspicious cases for proper action. Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/lagos-records-new-cases-of-bird-flu/ |

The Central Bank of Nigeria has told bank customers who have yet to obtain their Bank Verification Number not to hope that the apex bank will for the second time extend the October 31st deadline set for the conclusion of the exercise. The CBN stated it does not intend to shift the deadline again. The Deputy Director, Banking and Payments System Department, CBN, Mr. Musa Jimoh, stated this at an interactive session with journalists in Lagos recently, according to a statement sent to SUNDAY PUNCH. He said, “With less than two months to the expiration of the deadline, the advice from the regulator for bank customers that have yet to enrol in the BVN platform is that they should endeavour to obtain their BVNs, otherwise they would discover that they may not be able to deposit money in or make withdrawals from their accounts.” Source:http://www.punchng.com/news/bvn-deadline/ |

A 21-year-old man, Nura Abdullahi, has been sentenced to a jail term of five years for unlawfully dealing in 62 kilogrammes of marijuana. Abdullahi, who was convicted and sentenced on Wednesday, was said to have become visually-impaired in the prison custody, where he was awaiting trial since his arrest on March 19, 2013. His eventual conviction on Wednesday by Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Lagos was on the strength of his confessional statement and the exhibits tendered by the prosecution. Abdullahi, who was only arraigned on September 3, 2015 on one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, had promptly pleaded guilty to the offence. At the Wednesday’s proceedings, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s prosecutor, J.I. Aernan, reviewed the facts of the case. To further prove the prosecution’s claims, Aernan, who held the brief for M.U. Ewah, tendered, among other exbitits, the bulk of the illicit substance recovered from the convict two years ago, as well as the convict’s confessional statement. According to the prosecutor, the convict was arrested with the 62 kilogrammes of marijuana on March 19, 2013 at Ezewanta Motor Park, Ijora, Lagos State. He said the offence contravened Section 11 (b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. “We most humbly urge My Lord to convict the accused person based on his own confessional statement coupled with the evidence adduced before the court,” Aernan prayed. In his judgement, Justice Yunusa said he was convinced that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The defence, in a brief allocutus, urged the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict. It noted that Abdullahi was a first offender, adding that he had been through bitter experiences, including the loss of his sight, since his arrest and incarceration since March 2013. Justice Yunusa sentenced Abdullahi to a prison term of five years, to count from his day of arrest. He ordered the destruction of the hard drug recovered from the convict by the NDLEA. http://www.punchng.com/news/blind-marijuana-peddler-bags-five-years/ |

I must confess that I'm yet to witness dat improvement in electricity in my area oooo. In fact, it's be getting worse prn |
Debeloved87:Dat's wot he shudda considered b4 sending his wife away, especially 4 d fact dat he's leading a group of people, which automatically makes him a role model to some & which means he isn't living 4 himself alone. Moreso, marriage is a union btw 2 matured minds. It doesn't take religion to av a happy union. Religion only makes it easier. It takes LOVE & MATURITY. So if a relationship is not working, then 1 or both of these is lacking in 1 or both of the couple. I'm not trying 2 b 'holier than thou' in this case. In fact, I've gat my own issues too that I constantly seek God's grace to overcome. Buh we don't bend God's Word 2 suit ourselves. On the contrary, we conform to it. My advice 4 ur pastor is dat he shud bring back his wife & they shud iron out dia differences. |
Currently using BB Z30 & it's new, but dat's bn my concern too. However, I'm enjoying it while it lasts. Tried checking 4 do ba3 online by purchase buh didn't find. Twas wen I got it I discovered it's fixed. |
My dear, do fact that u don't know d genesis or nitty gritty of it doesn't make it unreal. I like & support ur summation though, dat pipu shud work hard rather than looking 4 shut cut 2 riches. |
This is a lopsided & biased analysis. Was expecting to see comparism wt his (Jonathan's) appointment of northerners. Dat's d only fair grnd 4 assessment of his govt |
Debeloved87:1. Dat d wife doesn't flow with d pastoral call doesn't make her an unbeliever. Everybody cannot be pastor. 2. If d unbelieving depart, NOT put her away. 3. If she departs, Bible didn't say marry anoda. Hence, if he's convenient wt her leaving, then he shud be convenient wt remaining unmarried. |
OP, guess u gat make a definition ur use of d term 'wealthy' cos as far as I know, it's jst a handful of d trio dat's rich, let alone being wealthy. Dat u're farmer or fisherman doesn't necessarily translate 2 wealth as most r peasants. & may I ask, d'u visit home @all? Cos all I can see frm ur write up is nothing more than hearsay, not a 1st hand knowledge. |
OrlandoOwoh:Kk. Txs 4 d enlightenment. |
Sabrwahaqqo:Not as much as wen oil marketers et al strike, which as happened over & over again. Fact is, Dangote is a (priv8) businessman wu has d right to run his bizz however he wills, & with d level of unemployment in this country presently, he can decide replace dem wt ready hands & new condition of service. |
Sabrwahaqqo:Not in this case, wen d company's min wage is higher than d govt's |
lolaxavier:This issue ain't abt responsibility 2 do community, otherwise known as Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR). D community ain't do ones complaining |
Sabrwahaqqo:Don't mind dem. Probe as boom everybody's slogan now. D best they can ask 4 is 4 Buhari or other influential Nigeria to persuade him. That's all. Moreso, I can't fathom any reason 4 probe here, cos do guy didn't reduce diabetes salary. He simply didn't increase it. |
Kelklein:I wonder too ooo. Imagine dem asking Buhari 2 probe him like he siphoned there salary wen govt isn't even paying as much, yet is unable to pay. No b day same post PhD holders dey hussle for! They're lucky it's not an organisation like Afe Babalola's, wia u technically sign ur sack letter from disclosure day u resume. |
Hmmmmm. 9ce response frm an intelligent & matured mind |
Pls wot's do link bw TV & laboratory? |
OP, u shudda taken clearer pix. It's only do last one that's clear enof. |
DrHighchief:I'm yet to see d comment of those 'bad belle' questioning his nationality. |
