Politics / Re: Anxiety As Julius Berger Bridge Collapses by Dracula27: 6:25pm On Aug 07, 2022
Th story is a useless lie.

A truck driver carelessly drove his truck with the bucket up and hit a beam on the flyover. The beam then had a domino effect on five other beams close to it.

PRESS STATEMENT

Our attention has been drawn to a misleading narrative concerning the incident that occured at the Rumukrushi (Tank) Flyover project site yesterday, Saturday, 6 August, 2022.

What happened yesterday was not an issue of structural failure but was entirely an accident caused by some careless heavy equipment operators .

Routine construction works were going on the site when an excavator horizontally collided with an already launched beam while trying to assist a tipper that got stuck in the mud due to the kind of soil peculiar to a typical construction site. The beam moved out of place and made impact on other beams.

The erroneous narrative being propagated by mischief-makers is with the sole aim of causing unnecessary panic amongst unsuspecting members of the public.

The good people of Rivers State should disregard it in its entirety because there is no cause for alarm whatsoever. The structural integrity of the 10th flyover is not in dispute in anyway. What happened was an avoidable incident caused by two careless equipment operators.

To the glory of God there was no casualty. The management of Julius Berger has been swiftly notified by the Honourable Commissioner for Works; the beams will be removed and new ones will be relaunched. There is no need for panic as the situation is fully under control.

Rivers State Government says that there are fears that Governor Nyesom Wike has being earmarked for assassination following the sudden removal of his Chief Security Officer today, Monday, December 5, 2016.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Austin Tam-George, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, said the sudden removal of the Chief Security Officer, came as an aftermath of Governor Wike's interview on Channels Television today.
Dr. Tam-George said that in the interview, the governor had blamed security agencies for launching a campaign of persecution against officials of the State Government.
" We are concerned that the governor of a State will not be consulted before the removal of his Chief Security Officer. This is an ominous sign that the governor's life is in great danger, " he stated.
He called on the International Community not to turn a blind eye to what is happening in Rivers State as it portends great danger to the survival of democracy in the country.
The Commissioner warned that Rivers people would not sit idly by and watch security agencies perpetrate unlawful acts in a State that is known for her peaceful disposition.
Dr. Tam-George restated Governor Wike's directive to all government officials to resist any politically motivated arrest throughout the period of the electoral process leading up to the re-run elections on December 10, 2016.
He called on River people to resist by all legitimate means the orchestrated attempt by the All Progressives Congress(APC) to steal the sovereign right of the people to freely choose their own leaders.

Politics / Intimidation Of The Judiciary Threatens Nigeria's Judiciary~ Governor Wike by Dracula27: 6:59pm On Nov 04, 2016
DEMOCRACY HAS BEEN THREATENED BY THE ORCHESTRATED INTIMIDATION OF THE JUDICIARY~ GOVERNOR WIKE

Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the ruling party has deliberately threatened the foundation of democracy by its ochestrated intimidation of the judiciary through false allegations and illegal arrests.

He stated that because of the orchestrated harassment of judges by the ruling party , no judge will ever deliver judgments against the interest of the Federal Government and the ruling party .

Speaking at the Government House , Port Harcourt on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association , NBA , Governor Wike warned lawyers against allowing the deliberate destruction of the judiciary under any guise.

According to him, the ruling party and her officials have elevated the art of frivolous petition writing against judges as a means of subverting the course of justice .

He said : "Our democracy is in danger. Our democracy has been threatened . What is happening to the judiciary is very deep. NBA must be careful of the deep implications of what it is also doing in the course of the present attack on the judiciary .

"All these actions are geared towards silencing everybody as we head to 2019. If anybody tells you that they are fighting corruption in the judiciary , tell the person that he is lying .

"They have empowered politicians to write frivolous petitions against judges . Whether or not the petition is true, the judge is compelled to step aside".

Speaking further, he said: "any judge who delivers a judgement that is against the interest of the ruling party, is hounded down by the DSS. They have intimidated judicial officers and put fear in them in a manner that is negatively affecting governance ".

The governor cited the ongoing Ondo PDP crisis as a point of reference where frivolous petition has been used to further the interest of the ruling party and destroy the judiciary .

On the December 10, 2016 date scheduled by INEC for Rivers Rerun elections , Governor Wike said the fact that it was announced less than 24 hours after the Senate ultimatum was an indication that INEC had been lying to people that insecurity was behind the repeated postponement of the rerun elections .

He, however , said that INEC in its anti-democratic elements will adduce reasons why the election may not be conducted on the same premise of security consideration .

Earlier , the Chairman of the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association , NBA , Mr Victor Briggs commended Governor Wike for his commitment to the development of the state.

The Port Harcourt NBA thanked Governor Wike for the construction of the ultramodern law centre for the branch. He assured the government that lawyers will always support all development programmes .

Politics / If You Want To Take Our Mandate By Force You Would Go By Force~ Gov Wike by Dracula27: 4:42pm On Oct 05, 2016
GOVERNOR WIKE SAYS PLOT TO RIG RIVERS RERUN ELECTIONS WILL FAIL

▪flags off reconstruction of Bonny Jetty

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) and her cohorts plotting to transplant the Edo State rigging model in Rivers State will fail as the people of the state will resist them.

He stated: "Anyone planning to steal our mandate will be resisted. Nobody can intimidate us. They will rig themselves into the water".

He spoke on Wednesday while flagging off the reconstruction of Bonny Jetty at the Bille/Bonny/Nembe Waterfront in Port Harcourt.

The governor stressed that INEC and pliant security agencies will not be allowed to use the Edo governorship election model in Rivers State.

"I hear some persons celabrating that they will repeat what they did in Edo State, here in Rivers State. Somebody who is suffering from malaria can say anything. But nobody will use the police to rig the rerun elections in Rivers State

"If you want to take our mandate by force, you will go by force. All the people of Rivers State must remain vigilant. INEC may want to take us unawares ", Governor Wike said.

On the flag off of the reconstruction of Bonny Jetty, Governor Wike said that the project is aimed at developing a quality water transport jetty where safety and security is promoted .

He said that the reconstruction of the jetty is in fulfilment of the pledge that he made to the people of the area during the electioneering campaign.

He said: "The day I came here to inspect this facility, I wept because of the condition of the jetty. We will develop it into a modern jetty.

"All the roads in the township suburb will also be rehabilitated by Julius Berger."

Governor Wike while asking the residents of the area to support the contractor to deliver the contract on schedule, he charged the contractor to employ the residents of the area in the course of reconstruction work.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Transport, Mr Akie Fubara said the Bonny Jetty will have a new jetty walkway and platform, terminal building housing arrival and departure lounges, improved driveway, retention wall and enhanced car parks.

Managing Director of Raffoul NigeriaLimited, Mr Hana Raffoul assured that the jetty will be constructed in line with international standards.

Thousands of residents turned out to welcome Governor Wike and celebrate the project. The Bonny Jetty was to left to degenerate several years after it was constructed.

It is the main gateway to Bonny and Bille in Rivers State and Nembe in Bayelsa State.

Politics / Let’s Salvage Our Sinking Nation, Governor Wike Urges Nigerians by Dracula27: 3:21pm On Oct 01, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the nation is sinking irreversibly down the abyss, stressing that only a united front will salvage the country and set it on the path of growth.

The governor regretted that either by commission or omission the Federal Government has dragged the country into its worst economic crisis where Nigerians find it difficult to feed.

In his special independence address during the 56thIndependence Celebration at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt on Saturday, lamented that ordinary Nigerians are dying daily from ailments that are ordinarily curable.

The governor declared: “Just look at the situation of our country at this material time. Never in history has the seeds of disunity, distrust, hatred; intolerance, violence, and terrorism proliferated in our country than now, not even in the years of the civil war.

“ By acts of omission or commission, the federal government has pushed the nation into its worst economic nightmare. With inflation on the loose, poverty is increasing as ordinary Nigerians are finding it difficult to have one decent meal in a day. Families are loosing loved ones to curable ailments simply because they can no longer afford necessary medications to sustain their health and vitality.

“Worse still, just as our collective security is being threatened by the activities of motley terrorist groups, such as the Boko Haram insurgents and Fulani herdsmen, most Nigerians are increasingly becoming disillusioned with the country’s failing national institutions, for their inability to mirror the nation’s character and values.”

He added: “ It looks as if the country is sinking irreversibly into the abyss, but I this is what happens when a country is economically weak and dependent. The need therefore, for all of us to work together with the three levels of Government, to deliver real and sustainable economic independence to our country and our people remains the greatest challenge before all of us.”

Governor Wike said that the earlier the thorny issues affecting the nation are addressed, the better for the development of the country.
He noted that the people of Rivers State are proud of their contributions to the development and economic growth of Nigeria, pointing out that they deserve to be rewarded according to their inputs to the sustenance of the country.

“As Rivers people we are proud of our contributions to the unity and progress of the Nigerian nation. We remain committed to preserving the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria. All that we ask in return for our loyalty and commitment is justice, mutual respect and just recompenses for our contributions and sacrifices to the economic and social wellbeing of the country”, Governor Wike said.
He explained that the Rivers State Government through policies and programmes has empowered the people and improved their living condition.
Governor Wike said: “As a deliberate social policy, we concentrated more resources to improve physical and socio-economic infrastructure in the State. Accordingly, apart from several major roads that we have already completed and commissioned, work on all ongoing road projects spread is progressing very well”.

He pointed out that projects in the area of infrastructure, health and education have improved the living conditions of the people of Rivers State.

The 56th Independence Anniversary witnessed March pass by the police, paramilitary voluntary organisations and schools.

Governor Wike also released the white pigeons signifying peace.

Politics / Oshiomhole Has Lost The Confidence Of Edo People Says Governor Wike by Dracula27: 3:44pm On Sep 14, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has berated Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole over his penchant for lies and his confirmed inconsistencies, simply because he is in a panic mode over the rejection of the APC in Edo State.

Governor Wike stated that it was completely untrue that he and his Delta State counterpart, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa mobilised militants to Edo State.

The governor further denied the false allegation by Oshiomhole that he sent N2billion to the Edo State PDP Governorship candidate.

Speaking when he granted audience to the Inter-Party Advisory Council ( IPAC ), Rivers State at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Governor Wike said that it is shocking that at his age, Oshiomhole still believes in drama and lies.

IPAC comprises of all registered political parties. Only the All Progressives Congress, APC, was absent at the Solidarity Visit by the registered political parties to Governor Wike.

He said that he was shocked by Oshiomhole’s allegation because on the day of the campaign, he met with the outgoing governor alongside other APC Governors at the Benin airport where they all embraced.

"Oshiomhole even cornered me and said ' don't mind these people, they don't know that we meet and talk", he said.

He said: "If Oshiomhole has lost the confidence of his people, he should not blame me. He brought the President and 10 APC Governors and he was not satisfied. Only because two PDP governors visited Edo State, Oshiomole is panicking.

"Oshiomhole at his age should stop dramatising and telling lies. What will his children say when they see him behave like that".

Governor Wike added: "If you cannot win election, you cannot win election no matter the number of security reports that you write.

"Oshiomhole doesnt know when to stop lying. Why do you think that you will continue to deceive the people. This was the same man who praised former President Goodluck Jonathan for promoting free and fair election, one man, one vote which saw Oshiomhole win a second term. Today in his notorious inconsistency, anywhere Oshiomhole goes, he insults the former President. When President Buhari leaves office, Oshiomole will do the same to him".

He noted that he was in Edo State to campaign for the PDP the same way that Oshiomhole stormed Rivers State in 2015 to campaign for the then APC Governorship candidate in the state.

The governor explained that : "What I told Edo people that has set Oshiomhole in panic mode is that they should not trust INEC or the security agencies because they will never be neutral. I still repeat that the Edo people must remain vigilant so that they their votes will count".

He charged Nigerians to disregard Oshiomhole’s lies as he is no longer pro-people.

He said : "The Comrade in Oshiomhole has died long ago. There is no Comrade in him. From Khaki, he is now wearing costly imported Safari Suits".

Politics / Rsg To Partner With Federal Housing Authority To Develop Affordable Housing by Dracula27: 5:27pm On Sep 06, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that his administration will partner with the Federal Housing Authority to ensure that the people of the state have access to affordable housing.

The governor said such partnership will involve ensuring that the Federal Housing Authority is given access to land to commence the immediate construction of houses.

Speaking during the courtesy call by the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Prof Mohammed Al-Amin on Tuesday , Governor Wike directed the management of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority and the State Ministry of Housing to liaise with the Federal Housing Authority to develop a framework for affordable housing.

The governor, however, stated that the Federal Housing Authority must sign an undertaking that it will develop lands allocated to it within one year, failure which the Rivers State Government will retake the said allocated lands.

He said: "State Governments find it difficult to allocate plots of land to the Federal Housing Authority because lands allocated are allowed to stay fallow without any developments on them.

"I have directed the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority in conjunction with the State Ministry of Housing to discuss with the Federal Housing Authority on how to develop a framework for the Joint development of affordable housing.

"However, we are proposing that the Federal Housing Authority sign an undertaking that should they fail to use the parcels of land allocated within one year, we shall repossess same".

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority, Prof Mohammed Al-Amin
noted that the essence of the visit is in furtherance with the directive of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing to the Federal Housing Authority and Federal Mortgage Bank to use lands owned by the Federal Housing Authority across the country with the resources of the Federal Mortgage Bank and invest and deliver housings.

He said Rivers State is among the first slated to benefit from the programme.

He disclosed that the Federal Housing Authority has been restructured into Commercial and Social Departments with a view to making housing a tool for development.

Prof Mohammed appealed to the governor to allocate more lands to the authority as well as intervene in ground rents and accusation fees charged the authority.

Politics / Governor Wike Assures Security Agencies Of Sustained Support by Dracula27: 3:29pm On Sep 02, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the state government will continue to support all security agencies in the state to ensure that they are better equipped to fight crime.

Speaking when he granted audience to the Rivers
State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday, Governor Wike said that the protection of lives and property remains key to his administration.

The governor regretted that the rampant use of illicit drugs by youths is one of the driving forces of crime and criminality in the state.

He said : "Drug addiction is a huge challenge. The influence of drugs in the level of crime in the society cannot be over-emphasized. We shall support the NDLEA to deal with the situation ".

He described the operational situation of NDLEA as pathetic, noting that the absence of operational vehicles and a functional rehabilitation centre is a sad development.

Governor Wike announced that the State Government will help the NDLEA set up a rehabilitation centre in addition to presenting some operational vehicles.

Earlier, the Rivers State Commander of the NDLEA, Ambassador Rachel Shelleng said that despite the challenges being faced by the Agency, it has succeeded in fighting drug usage and addiction in the state.

She said in the course of the last one year, the NDLEA has arrested drug peddlers, drug offenders and rehabilitated persons dependent on drugs.

The Rivers State Commander of the NDLEA appealed to the State Governor to support the command with operational vehicles. She also called on the governor to support NDLEA in constructing a standard rehabilitation centre.

Politics / Apc And The Politics Of Demagoguery In Nigeria. by Dracula27: 4:10pm On Feb 16, 2016
APC AND THE POLITICS OF DEMAGOGUERY
IN NIGERIA.

There are two forms of extremism that pose the greatest existential threat to Nigeria today.
There is the religious extremism of Boko Haram which has ravaged the North East of the country, and continues to spread fear and terror across the land.
Boko Haram is driven by bloodlust, and fantasies of an Islamic dystopia that promises endless supply of virgins to anyone foolhardy enough to blow themselves up in a crowded market.
As a result, according to independent sources, Boko Haram has murdered over 40, 000 men, women and children.
In their bid to impose a medieval vision on the rest of the country, Boko Haram has stolen hundreds of teenage girls from their school beds, seized territory and displaced over 4 million people in the past six years.
President Buhari’s imprudent claim of a “technical” defeat of Boko Haram in December 2015 has been triumphantly mocked by the terrorists who continue to launch more audacious attacks on all targets.
But there is an even more virulent cancer now spreading across the country: the cancer of the ruling party’s political fundamentalism.
Since winning the general elections in May 2015, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been acting less as a political party, and more as an extremist group.
The APC controls the central government, it is in charge in 23 of 36 states in the country, it dictates domestic and foreign policy, controls the armed forces, the police, and the national treasury.
In other words, the APC has sufficient control of the country to place Nigeria on a new, progressive path.
But rather than rise to the challenge of leadership, the APC seems to have lost every appetite or ability to govern.
In its obsession to vanquish the Peoples’ Democratic Party {PDP} even after the general elections, APC leaders are deploying a dark, totalizing rhetoric strikingly similar to that of Boko Haram.
Like Boko Haram, APC’s territorial hunger seems to be to loom in every sitting room and street corner as it seeks to impose its brand of political caliphate on Nigeria.
In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s judgement recently affirming Governor Nyesom Wike as the duly elected governor of Rivers State, among other PDP victories, the APC has ratcheted up its dangerous rhetoric.
In a widely publicized media interview, Chief John Oyegun the National Chairman of the APC has castigated the integrity of the Justices of the Supreme Court, declaring that “Something is fundamentally wrong in the judiciary”.
Oyegun also made the bizarre suggestion that all oil-producing states of the Niger Delta region were prized assets to be acquired at all costs by the APC.
“We have lost very important resource-rich states to the PDP. No matter how crude oil prices have fallen, it is still the most important revenue earner for the country”, Chief Oyegun said.
In Chief Oyegun’s company was Mr Dakuku Peterside, the defeated Rivers State APC governorship candidate, who seemed to use the meeting to incite the military and the Federal Government against the people of Rivers State.
Among the demands of Dakuku Peterside and the Rivers State APC was the purge of alleged sympathizers “of the immediate-past federal government administration in the leadership of security agencies, especially in the Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps”.
This absolutist politics of the APC is not only a direct threat to democracy in Nigeria, but seems to be a manifesto for the open politicization of the security forces of the country.
Experts have warned that the constant deployment and redeployment of police commissioners and officers is undermining the security architecture in many states, including in Rivers State.
Dakuku Peterside’s irresponsible call for a politically-motivated “purge” in the security forces will spell disaster for Nigeria.
The APC seems to be animated not by the beneficent purposes of political power, but by the depredations that power could inflict on the party’s opponents.
But the APC is not working alone. The party is supported by a gaggle of surrogate lawyers, revisionist intellectuals, and even sections of the media, to suppress competing visions on how Nigeria should develop as a country.
We call on all Nigerians to work together to stop this fast-advancing totalitarianism of the APC.
In Rivers State, despite the threats and braggadocio of the APC, the people have made it clear that only their sovereign will prevail in the rerun legislative polls billed for March 2016.
We call on all Nigerians and the international community to challenge the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), and the APC Government of President Mohammadu Buhari to hold free, fair and conclusive rerun polls in Rivers State.
