Not for the US. I know Canada does require.
Your school will however ask for immunization records to rubella, measles and the likes. If you don't have, don't stress it, you can get it done when you get to school. If you have, take it along. Meanwhile, if you can get it done in Nigeria, do so, or you may end up paying so much for it here under the so-called health insurance which I just don't get.

Yes it is possible. I did exact same thing with no hassles. On the US immigration website, FAQ section, you'll be advised on an email address to send your request to stating the initial SEVIS ID and the new one, amongst other things. You'll also state the reason why you are transferring. You will also attach your initial payment confirmation.

Use the official Dollar-Naira exchange rate and factor in about 25% over the amount. Basically, that's like (25k x 325NGN x 1.25).

If I might add (don't wanna leave out the fun part): If you can spare an extra $8 and pay $15 per month, you get unlimited calls/minutes to mobiles and landlines in Nigeria. You talk till you drop! Again, the party in Nigeria need not have internet access or a Skype account; a Nokia 3310 will do just fine.

Buy subscription on Skype, $7 per month for 300 minutes (Voice call clarity and quality is good, I think it's a good deal, I've abandoned HotVoip) to Mobiles and Landlines in Nigeria. The other party in Nigeria doesn't need to have a Skype account.

My take,

Generally, University of Louisiana appears to be ranked a bit higher than Tennessee State University. Louisiana is at the South coast, and so the weather there is very similar to that of Nigeria. As per ranking as regards your course, investigate and know which is better.
If any gives you funding, rank same higher than the other.

Yeah. It's been like over a week since it took effect. HotVoip that charged 10 Euros for 330 mins now charges same for a meagre 128 minutes. That's more than a 50% cut! It's just double tragedy; even with the Naira being weak, we still have to put down more foreign currency for same talktime. angry

Guy, you have a First Class. You also have a BSc in Statistics. Getting a GA won't be difficult at all for your intended major. I mean it, it won't be difficult.
I strongly advise that, with all joy and gladness, take TOEFL/IELTS and blast it, even if you have to borrow money now. The benefits of doing these English Language proficiency tests would become clear when you get to your school. You would hear of others taking ESOL courses and paying for it all because they did not do any of these tests. Remember to blast it, say, score 8.0 or more overall in IELTS.

The medium and above-average schools you want will give you Teaching Assistantship with reckless abandon. Don't give this a second thought again!

You didn't mention GRE, I hope you have that down too.

You generally aren't going to find the textbooks in PDF format; for starters, it's copyright infringement. They also tend to use fairly current versions of the textbook, so getting the wrong edition might trip you up.

You can try to look for used versions on the local market or on Amazon.com for a cheaper alternative.

Gurus in the house, please I need websites, repositories or archives where I can get textbooks in PDF format preferably. Classes for some of us have begun and there is some unexpected urgency to obtain all required textbooks at affordable prices (or free where possible) ASAP.

My two cents:

I think we can do individual reviews on their sites.
$19 Ultramobile has unlimited talk to 30+ international destinations, of which Nigeria is excluded. Also, just 100MB data. However, their $39 plan gives you 1000 minutes to call Nigeria (as an add-on), and that's aside the unlimited talk you have to destinations like UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa et al.

Heard of H2O wireless. Sim is somewhat free. There's a pre-paid monthly plan that costs $30, and if you're really concerned about keeping in touch with loved ones back in Nigeria, you'll get $10 credit of talk time for that.

No Bro, I did not. To me, I don't think the savings is significant anymore, in getting PTA. Anyway, I think so because the cost of the extra return leg (we all know what an air ticket cost range is now) reduces the savings realized from the 365-284 margin, which is pegged at a max of $4000. Getting $4000 sef is a herculean task on its own.

However, according to my own knowledge, I may be wrong, where an airline is willing to refund the extra leg cost, or the customer is able to transfer the ticket (which for me, is totally unheard of for economy class ticket holders) to another person.

The bank officer that attended to you is actually ignorant. The CBN has created the option of Form A for the F1 Visa holder. Opting for a return ticket is solely the choice of the customer.
The crux of the matter is if the student wants PTA, then for the Banks to ensure they obey CBN's rule, the student must present a return ticket.
Understand that the F1 Visa does not necessitate a return ticket, rather it is that if the student wants to get PTA, in order for the banks to obey CBN's regulations, the bank must ask the student to get a return ticket.

You can take this to the bank...NO!

If you wanna pay school fees using Form A, a return ticket is NOT/NEVER a requirement.
If you want PTA (Personal Travel Allowance and NOT BTA: Business Travel Allowance), a return ticket is a requirement. And that's applicable when you have a visiting visa, not an F1 visa.

Alright! Yesterday, Gooogle said N260; today it's N280. In Nigeria, we hear and see N288 in the media. All funds should be calculated using this new rate. Besides, it would be the best one can come across, especially with Form A transactions.
Surprisingly, the black market seems to be steady at N335-345. Can anyone please confirm what the rate is when using your Naira denominated cards abroad? Info I've come across shows N340 on average for some banks.
