Daboomb: Not just cost!
Even when you can afford it, RELIABILITY is the major headache, I installed some security stuff in my place and l am supposed to operate them remotely from anywhere in the world but if l tell you that l have been changing from one Internet provider to another, looking for one whose signal is robust and does not break-off at will?
I think some of these problems are deliberate, enshrined just to keep the citizens on a leash, by the Powers-that-be Have you tried using Smile |

Her stadium once hosted a world cup tournament, not saying the stadium can't be improved but u get my point. Carnival and publicize it? Well you guys can but I am not a fan of that carnival of a thing - I had said prefer investments in exceptional healthcare, education and ICT, since the environment supports it past glory |

NonsoWow: Without Anambra indigenes input, Enugwu state would have collapsed long ago. Asha80 was complaining about lack of businesses in Enugwu, what she failed to realize is that most Anambra indigenes are now re-directing their investments they would have situated in Enugwu and other Igbo states, back home to Anambra state in anticipation of our new Anambra International Airport that wawa people loathe so much. See the boom taking place in Awka, the enormous real estate developments in our capital is the biggest anywhere in the south east. Even Genesis cinemas is joining the craze by closing down their Enugwu operation and relocating to Awka with their new state-of-the-art cinemas opp Ekwueme square. In all these, Governor Willie Obiano's good governance is a crucial factor that has been spurring the Anambra boom. Thank you my brother. Anambra is the new commercial hub. What we need is for Anambrarians in diaspora to come back home and invest and is already yielding enormous result. Security use to be the reason for not investing in the state, but now, Anambra is one of the safest state in the country. |

Isn't Ogun state IGR becaus eof it's proximity to Lagos? If Enugu bordered Lagos, it would have been the same story. Yes you're right. I believe Enugu as political might to achieve what Lagos achieved. |

Internally Generated Revenue is different from Federal Allocation
If you don't understand how a system works, kindly ask questions.

SoNature: Good question!
To answer you: I don't have a choice but to believe it because those are official figures from various states in Nigeria.
NBS doesn't generate IGR figures from their office. That is why the country need to be restructured so as for the state to make IGR figures official. Why would a state like Anambra tell you how much they earn from IGR when many northern states far less populated than many eastern states receives more allocation just because of creation of more local governments and their landmass. |

SoNature: My bro, we don pass this level na.
We shouldn't be working basing our analysis on assumptions.
Every state ought to have a data center where anyone can goto and have reliable records about the state.
The implication of not having official records is that CNN, or any foreign organization for that matter, can just assume anything about you even without visiting your state, and you can't defend yourself.
But when you do, they will always quote official records because you can't know my town from overseas more than me. Do you have faith in the one published by National Bureau of Statistics. |

SoNature: Lagos? Yes, it's Nigeria's commercial capital.
Anambra? Hmmm. I don't know about that because they almost always don't release their IGR whenever National Bureau of Statistics publishes annual states' IGRs. The state generate tax from indutries operating in the state, the state generate revenue from Anambra Red buses, they generate revenue from several business premises, including their stake in public private partnership operating in the state et al. |

Go and check the federal allocation going to Akwa Ibom...highest in Nigeria for years now.
Calabar was bubbling when twas an active Niger Delta member state, but now their oil wells have been ceded to Akwa Ibom, making them super broke.
ChimaAdeoye raised a good point, but one thing we must always keep in mind is that development is a process.
And I know you people may not like the part, but I have to mention it. If we continue to agitate for Biafra the way we are going about it, non-Igbos will never bring their business to the east because the most important thing a rational man thinks before money is his security.
Just like the Igbos have their investments all over Nigeri, we need others to bring their investments here because no man is an island.
With the current Nigeria's arrangement, we can't do it alone. We all talk about allocation from federal government, what about internally generated revenue. How is it being utilized. A state like Lagos can do without allocation same with Anambra state. |

the indian inverters are reliable and fill a niche, installed solar for my folks in the village going to 3yrs now, phcn only comes about once in 2months or 3. opinion is cheap...and common like an a.sshole, every1 has one, live within ur budget is my motto You may be right in terms of affordability but reliable and durability is not guaranteed. I always go for quality not quantity, if I don't have money for something, I would rather save than to go for an inferior one. It's known that in China there are two types of the same products, the ones for normal human beings that live in normal countries and the ones where our Brothers from that side (I know mention names o) have asked them to make at low quality
Pages back we were educated about wiring. Some wires have standard gauge outside but small strand on the inside. TO buy wire you have to take a magnet to the shop to test for conductivity, you have to weigh. Jeez, all sorts of nonsense. Purehuman: Enugu is a place that is good for cool investments like building one of the biggest ICT hub in Africa like silicon valley and also building biggest health facilities in Africa. Enugu can provide these services to the whole of Africa and make serious billions in dollars.
Our states should have a direction. What they are known to do. What the people specialize in doing. You don't just have a state where the people are masters of nothing. Just build houses with environment not having economic value.
People need investment so that they can have jobs and even be more creative.
Seriously, we are not doing it right in the east. We are just building beautiful houses to impress everyone while we run out to pursue other things in other places. Onitsha is still ahead in terms of ICT hub, at least in the south east with the presence of Aptech, NIIT and other outlets not forgeting smile Internet Service Provider has the only south eastern coverage in onitsha. It also seems that Enugu is the maitama or the florida of south east where Igbo elite go to relax and retire. Eg, Arthur Eze, Alex Ekwueme. But the city will thrive more if more businesses spring up to create jobs. |

Maybe much demand is not chasing supply, that's why the prices of land hasn't gone up. EgunMogaji: Sometimes you just have to shake your head
This is what is called "replacement value" and what insurance is rated on.
I scored a deal with a home builder on one house in Texas for $225,000. When I went to have it insured the value they came up with was $375,000 (the lowest). Insurance told me that is the replacement value that it will cost them to rebuild if the house was destroyed. I then went to get my own appraisal done and that one came up with $355,000
The land value at the tax office hasn't changed in 10 years and was at $17,500 or so.
So yeah you're right, house do go up in value. |

You dont necessary have to own an investment. Eg, if you rent a car from a company certainly you can use it for any purpose except otherewise stated. You can then decide to make money from it by using it as taxi. You dont own it but is your investment because it bring you income which can take care of your rental cost. If you then buy a used car that so much on repairing it on weekly bases not regular maintenace but weekly heavy repair, you can't classify it as an asset any more because it takes more money from than expected. is now a liability not an asset. If you then decide to buy a brand new car and this car has attacted several business partners and client to you because they belive that by driving that good car, you're comfortable and trusted and wont elude with their money and the only money you spend on the car is just for regular maintenace, then is an asset. rabcnesbit: Okay, maybe we have fallen into the trap of conflating asset with investment, as there is a subtle difference between the two. As per the English dictionary, an asset is a 'valuable person or thing, something owned by a person, company, etc' (so your wife can be an asset . An investment is 'an outlay of money, effort, resources etc usually for income or profit'. So all investments can be classed as assets (valuable and owned), but not all assets can be classed as investment (not for income or profit) |
