I love the way both of you tried to analyse the thread. However, i must commend @ texazzpete for his criticism and his high analytical mind. You are a real Engineer. I must also commend @Lafem for his supportive suggestions on the above thread. But my own suggestion is this, Guys gatto keep his head high no matter what. Everybody have dreams he hopes to come true one day. And the way you go about realising your dream is what matters not what others think is the best way for you, 'because his own way might not work for you.
As for me, I served in kwara State and i got a job as a sysytem Administrtor in one supposedly leasing company in VI, the second week i finished my NYSC, that was on february. Filled with joy that knows no bound that now am on the right path of having my dreamed career, but my joy was shortlived 'because when i mwt the MD of the company, i was told that the job is marketing inclined; that means that i have to go out and look for prospect client that i will be networknig their systems. I was devastated when the MD was giving me the nature of the job. However, i made a quick decision and declined the job 'because i believe it will be a set back.
But guess what my fellow landers, the following month, i got a better job in one of the three GSM operators .
What i want to say in essence is this; there are some jobs that will be a steping stone to your dream jobs and there are some the will be a crushing stone.
It is left for the individual to know which one is which.

Am confused here, you know him better so you should know exactly what he means. If he has been putting you down all along, then talk about how he makes you feel, tell him you don't like it. Or better still, develop a thick skin, people will always have something to say about your looks. What if you were in "WARRI" or "BENIN" you for just go bury yourself then. People from that area can kill with their mouth and probably don't mean to. If you cannot cope with his bad mouthing you break up with him.

Giving "HIM" my virginity and truely believing we would get married someday. As if that was not bad enough i travelled all the way to his school (without permission from my mum) to ask why he was not calling me with a cake and birthday card for him.

Okay u know what, reading from yo mails u seem to be the sensitive type and of course his words obviously have a certain impact on you.
What i say is, who do u love most, yourself or him? As there will come a time when u'll have to pick.
If he's constantly making thos type of comments, then u'd constantly be feeling bad about yoslf (heard that song by TLC - Unpretty?)
The choice is yours, but i have to be honest that i am not completely convinced he is doing it on purpose, but there are guys like that, putting their girls down to feel more secure and their way of keeping them in check.

The word cheap is relative, it depends on what standard your comparing with. In life the main essnce of living is survival, if a girl needs 20 naira to get by in a week, and your ready to part with it. Whatever u demand to hand her 20 bucks, is left for her to accept or reject. And the kind of girl u meet depends on the kind u associate with. If you look very carefully there are some who would need nothing less than a Million naira to get by in a week, and there are level of men that could afford that. This happens all over the world its not a Nigerian phenominom. In china there is a saying "Men go bad when they are rich, but women need to go bad to be rich".

Exchange of gift between couples is not beign materialistic ok. It only goes to show you appreciate the other party. Its not compulsory its a gesture. We are not all the same ok. SO you want to date a girl for years without giving a gift (It could even be taking her to a resturant for lunch) na you cheap pass in that case.

materialistic girls are the ones that date you for your money basically. There is a big difference.

There is one thing that is certain about love.
If one is truly in love u will act behold any body imagination and true love is very scare but real,so for those that says they can't ,it only because they don't truly love that person.What is love :

Love is easy to give slow to ask
Love is fast to compliment,slow to complain
Love never nag but praise

I personally think its the POVERTY LEVEL IN NAIJA O! Things are hard in this country you have to get everything on your own the Government does not give anything free so what do you expect. There are no serious vacation jobs for students to do. Every meaningful job needs a degree here. A student cannot work as a receptionist in a company. Most of the companies take graduates, is it MR BIGGS? the pay cannot buy the poor student jeans and a top for the next session. Whats their option then? ARITOS OR MUGUS.

Another reason is GREED. An average naija girl wants to wear designers jeans to school, infact the very same one JLO wore in  the last video she saw. All to be noticed in school as a "BABE" so you see they have to haunt for the money bags that are willing to drop the cash.

Peer Pressure is another, what are my friends boyfriends giving to them etc

Once they hear a guy is back from abroad, case closes. It automatically becomes a signed sealed and delivered deed. I know this group of girls that love 419 Boys like mad. Why? because they spend like thieves.(Thats what they are anyway). How come some naija boys in london don't date naija gals? they would pick the most expensive resturant to dine and shops to shop in all on the guys hard earned pounds!!!! e nor go happen o! so they bone the girls.

My brother once took a naija girl out in london, they went to the joints etc on their way back he needed to get chewing gum from a corner shop. She came in with him and he politely asked if she wanted anything. My people, guess what she CARRIED NOT PICKED, A BAG OF RICEEEE


Guys just look well before you leap there are still many of us who are not so materialistic. Just the basic exchange of gifts between boyfriend and girlfriend. It doesnot have to be too expensive its the thought behind it that counts.
