Clearly, she was already coveting the man and thought she could be the solution to his problems.

Which is why she didn't take the pains to find out the truth for herself --- if only she applied some brain.

Now, what do we blame her current predicament on?

Her desperation and gullibility or greed?

**modified**

Someone quoted me and talked about going with his family --- that's a good point.

Is there a possibility the "family" was deceived too?
Or were they in on the whole thing?
The human race isn't particularly known for "Goodness."

This isn't me trading blames. Trust me, I feel this woman's pain, I'm just not willing to put it all in writing at the moment.

But as ladies, we need to learn. We need to stop taking things at face value and put on our thinking caps.

It's okay to live and love like your life depended on it.

However I believe that there is a spirit in man, the inspiration of the almighty gives us understanding - of what is right, of what is wrong, of what to do, of what not to do.

I can bet my Nairaland account that before she decided to go on with this man, there were red flags, ones she ignored for whatever reasons there might be. That's if she even took time to court him first or thoroughly listened to her inner light. undecided

Good writing. One of the best I've seen on Nairaland.
Smart analysis, too.

Fulani Herdsmen Threaten Abia Villagers over Missing Cows

30 Dec 2014

Some Fulani herdsmen have caused the people of Okporenyi village in Bende community, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, to go into hiding, after they threatened to attack them over missing cows.

A source in the Abia Police State Command said some Fulani herdsmen had threatened to attack the village soon if their cows, allegedly stolen by the villagers, were not produced, reported the Nigeria Political Economist.

According to a member of the village, trouble started on the eve of Christmas when a group of herdsmen stormed the village, threatening to raid the village if they failed to locate their missing cows.

The source said after the warning, the herdsmen in the wee hours of the following day, invaded farmlands in the village with their cattle, destroying a lot of crops in the process. It was gathered that farmlands in the village had come under incessant attacks by cows of the herdsmen while complaints by the villagers had fallen on deaf ears.

The source added that after a few days, the herdsmen came to the village again, this time with some policemen, alleging that they were searching for one of the cattle breeders, a young boy.

The source said an attempt by one of the villagers, identified as Onyi, to exonerate the village from any involvement in the whereabouts of the alleged missing boy, earned him the wrath of one of the herdsmen, who attacked him with a machete, opening a cut on Onyi’s upper arm despite the presence of the police.

The source said the police did not however take it kindly with the invader as he was seriously upbraided.

According to the source, the villagers now live in fear of imminent raid by the herdsmen, who had attacked some communities in the Middle Belt as well as part of Enugu State in recent times over grazing land.

The source said it was unthinkable for landlords to live in dread of strangers in their own land, and appealed to the Abia State Government to quickly come to their aid.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr.Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident, but said: “The police are on top of the situation.”

The PPRO said talks had been initiated with both parties with a view to resolving the face-off. He assured the villagers of full protection of their lives and property, advising them not to take the law into their hands.

Politics / Re: Property Seized By Boko Haram Seen In Chad by Drone007: 1:06am On Dec 25, 2014
makzeze:
Equipment, vehicles and goods belonging to government and other Nigerians reportedly stolen by Boko Haram insurgents have been smuggled to the Republic of Chad, officials said yesterday.

Nigerian ambassador to Chad Mohammed Dauda and Adamawa state government officials confirmed the report saying steps to recover the items had been taken already.

“Yes, we heard about the story and then we also received a report from Nigeria, urging us to investigate the whereabouts of the stolen equipment from Mubi by the Boko Haram members,” Ambassador Dauda said in an interview with BBC Hausa service yesterday.

“Ever since we got the report, we quickly wrote to the Chadian Gendarme - which is the police, the military and their immigration office,” he said. “We don’t know exactly the items, but there are indications that reveal they are government and schools vehicles, household goods, furniture and other goods stolen from burgled shops.
Ambassador Dauda  called on the Cameroonian authorities to also launch investigation “because there is about 300 kilometres to cover in Cameroon before entering Chad from Nigeria. Hence it is possible for such items to be lost within the country, too.”
He called on Nigerians to discard the belief that relations between Nigeria and Chad are rusty.

The insurgents two months ago captured Mubi and several towns and looted shops. Reports at the time quoted the insurgents as having boasted that the large quantity of food and household goods they took away could last them for at least a year.
The towns were re-captured by the military aided by vigilante and hunters last month.

Also, the Adamawa State government is pushing for investigation into reports indicating that goods looted by Boko Haram insurgents from the state were taken to Chad.

In an interview with Daily Trust yesterday, Phineas Elisha, the spokesman to Governor Bala Ngilari, said government would lodge a formal complaint with the federal government on the issue.

“Government has been informed that goods carted away from Mubi found their way in to Chad. In fact there are many vehicles with Adamawa State registration number that were seen crossing in to Chad”, he stated.
He said the state government will soon cause the Nigerian Foreign Affairs Ministry to take up the matter with Chadian government.

Meanwhile, the councillor representing Digil Ward in Mubi North Local Government Council, Sahabo Bello, has called on the federal government to rise up to the challenge and demand explanation from Chadian authorities.
He also asked President Goodluck Jonathan to assist business men to rebuild their businesses, saying property worth billions of naira have been looted in Mubi.

A displaced person from Mubi said most of Boko Haram fighters he saw in Mubi before his subsequent escape were from Chad and could not speak Hausa or any Nigerian language.
According to him, goods ranging from foodstuff, vehicles, motorcycles, house wares to clothing materials were carted away.

“We know Chadians because we lived with them for many years. Most of the Boko Haram fighters I saw in  Mubi were typical Chadians and we got information from the border that goods looted from shops and houses in Mubi were taken across the border in to Chad”, he said.

The ministry of foreign affairs yesterday said it had not received any official report of complain from Adamawa government yet.

Spokesperson of the ministry, Mr. Ode Ogbole told Daily Trust that the ministry would respond as soon as it gets a report on the issue.

Efforts to get Chadian Embassy officials to react on the matter proved abortive as all the telephone numbers of the Ambassador were not available. When our reporter visited the embassy, there was nobody to attend to her because all the staff had closed for the day.

Bro, Ibos are not the ONLY traders in Lagos. We have Hausa at Alaba rago, and some other places. We have Yorubas at Oke arin, Idumota and everywhere and they are not taxed differently. This victim mentality card is so wrong, we have Yorubas/Hausa in the east as well. Why are you not complaining about the tout at Upper Iweka that extort people there. So they are executive agbero right? Lagos is not about Ibos alone, we have other tribes there too so you guys should take it easy.
The tout at Upper Iweka does not justify the agbero in Lagos, and vice versa. Likewise, the Hausas at Alaba rago and the Yoruba at Oke arin & Idumotado not complaining about the agbero phenomenon and rash of taxes while the Igbo at sundry markets do need not single them out for profiling. Plural democracy is only sustainable when the political and economic space is built on the foundation of a Broad Coalition of interests and forces. So conversations like these are very important. But let's stick with the issues!

Sometimes I feel for the “poor” Nigeria voters who are constantly fed with half-truth and in some instances, outright lies. We are at it again, being told how perfect, stable Naira was under Buhari. To even quote GMB, . http://www.thecable.ng/exclusive-interview-im-opposed-muslim-muslim-ticket-says-buhari/2

Two things are involved here:

1. At no point during the administration of IBB was naira N80 to a dollar, the highest it was at parallel market was N21.90

2. When Buhari took over in 1983, the Naira was exchanging for N 0.724 to a dollar, by the time he left office, the Naira was exchanging at between N1.5 to 1.7 in the parallel market. We will make use of the N1.5 exchange rate.
From 1983 to 1985, the Naira moved from 0.724 to 1.5 representing a 107% depreciation of the Naira!

The question therefore, with 107% depreciation of naira from 1983 to 1985, how stable was the naira under Buhari?
ALSO: HOW STABLE WAS ELECTRICITY UNDER GEN. BUHARI(by the way, Why does a former soldier who wants to be elected president in a civil, democratic dispensation still choose to be called 'General'? Could it be a fore-warning?) (2) WHAT ADDITION DID BUHARI MAKE TO NIGERIA'S ELECTRIC POWER INFRASTRUCTURE?

siraj1402:
MINISTER of National Planning, Dr Abubakar Sulaiman, has blamed continued onslaught of Boko Haram terrorists on Nigeria on alleged animosity the country shares with Francophone West African countries.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, at the weekend, the minister, who said Nigeria should revisit its Francophone policy, added that the issue of Boko Haram insurgency was political and, fundamentally, military.

“First, the issue of terrorism is global, regional and sub-regional. Second, the terrorism we have in Nigeria has internal and external dimensions to it. Some of the terrorists are not just Nigerians; they are not operating from Nigeria; they are operating from Nigerian borders and they have some back up from neighbouring countries.

“When you look at Nigeria’s history, we have been consistent in the kind of animosity we share with the Francophone West African countries. Nigeria should revisit, for instance, its francophone policy. We should look at the French policy on Nigeria. We should look at the position of France to Nigeria security. We should look at what has been, over the years, the strategy in the area of politics. What have been the relation, attitude, orientation, conduct and posture of France to Nigeria?

“Again, we need to go back to what had been the attitude of France and French government to the Boko Haram issue in our effort to fight terrorism.

“I don’t think Boko Haram is having its ways because government is not working. It is having its way because we are not getting enough support from the sub region. It’s fundamental.

“Third, people should be mindful of one thing when they try to criticise President Goodluck Jonathan on the issue of terrorism. We should know that when it comes to fighting terrorism, counter-terrorism and warfare, presidents do not go to war. It’s the handiwork of the armed forces. It’s the primary responsibility of the military. And let me say this, the Nigerian armed forces today is being dominated by Northerners and the Boko Haram spate is in the North. If there is a problem there, we look at our tactics, military operation and suspect some subversive tendencies in the armed forces.

“The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) is from the North. The National Security Adviser (NSA) is from the North. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is from the North. So, why must anyone blame the president? I think we should appreciate what the man is doing by mobilising all these forces.

This is one Nigerian head of state who told the world Nigeria's problem was not money, but how to spend it. And, justified his position by giving handouts to other countries at Nigeria's expense: paying salaries of the entire civil servants of Equitorial Guinea, Trinidad & Tobago etc. Had Gowon planned with Nigeria's oil wealth then, this country would not be where, and what she is now!

If a man does not teach his wife about financial management before he passes, is it his brother or his children that would handle his estate better? I was thought that a wife is a mans partner in marriage and they all have their roles to play in the home. When one isn't there, the other fills up the missing persons role.

Anyways, lemme ask.. If a woman in a marriage has money, can she will it all to her kids or her siblings to manage in trust for her kids?
What if she simply refuses to be taught, and frustrates his best efforts to reason with her?

Nigerian Who May Become First Black British PM by etunoman76(m): 7:04am On Aug 21
On May 7, 2015, a Nigerian, Chuka Umunna, could make history by becoming the first black Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Born in London in 1978, Chuka was bred in the UK. His late father, Bennett, hailed from Anambra State while his Irish mother, Patricia, is a solicitor.

Co-incidentally, Chuka shares startling similarities with the United States President, Barack Obama, who is the first black President of the world’s most powerful nation.

For instance, Chuka is of mixed race, being the child of a Nigerian father and an Irish mother while Obama is also of mixed race, being the offspring of a white American woman and a Kenyan father. Also Chuka’s father, Bennett, was killed in a mysterious car accident in Nigeria in 1992 while Obama’s father was killed in a car accident in Kenya in 1982.

If history repeats itself as it is being predicted by British political observers, Chuka, who is also a six-foot tall lawyer like Obama, could become the first black Prime Minister in the UK.

Chuka’s life story is perhaps a better guide to his future political direction. It is the story of a rise from the streets of South London (scene of some of Britain’s worse race riots in the 1980s) to the parliament. But it is not the story that some might expect.

His father, Bennett, was a Nigerian labourer, who arrived in Britain in the sixties with one suitcase and no money. Having borrowed the fare from Liverpool to London, he worked in a carwash, became a successful businessman and died in a car crash when his son was 13.

Bennett began an import-export business trading with Nigeria and was starting to make a decent living when he met Patricia Milmo, a solicitor, at a London party. She happened to be the daughter of Sir Helenus Milmo, a Cambridge-educated High Court judge and a prosecutor at the Nuremberg Nazi trials. They later got married, a rare combination during a time of high social inequality and racism.

Chuka believed his father was killed because he refused to indulge in corrupt practices when he was running for the governorship of Anambra State during the administration of former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.).

Bennett died after his car ran into a lorry carrying logs along the Onitsha-Owerri highway in Anambra. Bennett had been splitting his time between London and Nigeria – where he unsuccessfully ran for the governorship of Anambra State and had taken a stand against bribery.

At a point Bennett was also the owner of the Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, the darling of the Igbo people.

When quizzed about his father on Sky News, he had this to say: “There was a lot of speculation in Nigeria at the time around his death. He was a national political figure standing on an anti-corruption ticket and refused to bribe anybody.

“We don’t really talk about it because it is not going to bring him back but I think he would be bowled over that his son is now a politician just like him.”

Chuka, an English and French Law graduate from the University of Manchester, who also holds a Master’s degree from Nottingham Law School, says his interest in politics was shaped by seeing extreme poverty while visiting his father’s relatives in Nigeria and the social divide in his own Streatham constituency in the UK. He says that he is “not super-religious” but that his soft-left values are “rooted in my Christianity.”

The 35-year-old Labour Party Member of Parliament, however, has two hurdles to cross if he is to make history in the UK. This is because in the UK, for one to become the Prime Minister, the person must first be a Member of Parliament, the person’s party must win majority of seats out of the 560 seats in the House of Commons during the parliamentary elections and the person must be the leader of his party.

Presently, Chuka is the Member of Parliament for Streatham, a position he has held since 2010 but must re-contest in 2015 and win to retain the seat.

He is also the Shadow Business Secretary, a position held by a member of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition. The duty of the office holder is to scrutinise the actions of the government’s Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and develop alternative policies. The office holder is a member of the Shadow Cabinet.

According to the UK Telegraph, Chuka is rumoured to have the strong support of a former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, who was also a Labour Party leader.

According to the British newspaper, when asked if he was Blair’s anointed candidate, Chuka said, “I really don’t know anything about that.” However, when he was pressed further whether he aspired to head his party, he said, “I don’t entertain any discussion beyond winning the election next year. That would be completely hypocritical of me. To start thinking about hypothetical scenarios would be totally indulgent. All my energy is focused on winning the election, and so should everyone’s. It will be very close.”

Chuka is one of the youngest MPs in the UK having been introduced into British politics by the current Labour Party leader, Ed Miliband, while he was in his 20s.

It was Milband that helped him become an MP and later made him his Parliamentary Private Secretary before he was promoted to the Shadow Cabinet in October 2011. He is tipped to become Miliband’s successor and could become the Prime Minister should the Labour Party win next year’s election.

Chuka, however, claims to hate the comparison of him and Obama which he terms the “construct of lazy journalists.” He sharply divides opinion in British politics. Good-looking, articulate, new-media-savvy and a good orator.

According to FT Magazine, he is not universally popular among his own colleagues, who see more style than substance. “He just has a knack of alienating people,” said one experienced Labour MP. “He is probably the most natural communicator I’ve seen since Tony Blair. The problem is that each week he has fewer supporters than he did at the start of the week.”

Even potential allies recount stories of apparent slights or snubs. A senior party figure says, “Chuka has put people’s backs up. They feel he is inaccessible.” Another long-serving MP adds, “The idea of learning the trade first is only for mere mortals, not for him.” Peter Mandelson, the former Labour business secretary who played a key role in Blair’s rise through to the top, thinks the explanation for this is quite simple, “Envy plays a big part in politics,” he says.

Like Blair, Chuka sometimes connects better with those beyond his own circle. John Cridland, head of the CBI employers’ group, calls him “a guy with whom we can do business.” Andrew Tyrie, Tory Chair of the Commons Treasury Committee, say: “He’s extremely talented and charming.” Andrew Adonis, a former Labour minister, sums up his cross-party appeal: “The best politicians are those who look outwards not inwards.”

However, allies of the current British PM, David Cameron, scoffed at the idea that Chuka might represent a threat to Cameron’s second term bid.

“I can’t think of any issue where he’s put us under pressure,” says one close friend of the prime minister. “He’s pretty average – he’s a slick corporate lawyer.”

Also, among his fellow party members, Chuka’s lack of political definition is another source of irritation as some claim they struggle to work out what he really believes in. But Chuka says people should show a bit more patience. “It would be rather unhealthy if after just three years in parliament I was setting out some blueprint for my country,” he says. “What do people expect?”

But some see him as the potential leader of a mainstream 21st-Century Labour party with the kind of crossover appeal of Blair’s New Labour. Despite initial reservations that Chuka might be a bit too left-wing, Blair has started seeing him regularly. “Chuka strikes Tony as very smart,” says one close ally of the former PM. “Business is a particularly important brief in tough economic times and Chuka seems to be rising to the challenge.”

As if Blair’s blessing was not enough, Chuka recalls the “honour” of spending “a small bit of private time with former US President, Bill Clinton, who he describes as one of his political heroes. “I think he defies the left-right description,” Mandelson says in approbation. “He’s part of a generation that transcends those labels.”

He has also recently been to Europe to meet his friend, the French PM, Manuel Valls.

According to statistics, almost 15 per cent of people in Britain describe themselves as “non-white” but the country has never had a party leader from an ethnic minority background. Nobody has ever come close. Chuka confesses that until his late teens he had not even thought about a career in politics because there was “nobody who looked like me” running the country.

Chuka has been vocal in the call for a reduction in government spending as well as issues on immigration. “They [the French] have something like 40 ministers compared to our 80,” he says.

On the EU itself, he has called for reform, saying not long ago that free movement of workers was not intended to mean free movement of jobseekers. “As one of the most pro-European shadow ministers, I don’t think you can ignore the impact that free movement has had on some of our communities,” he says, adding that it has changed because there are “many more EU members.”

He adds, “There’s a number of things we need to look at. Those who tend to raise the issue of immigration with me are my African and Asian constituents. They want confidence there are proper controls.

“They want to see people integrate, which is why we shouldn’t be spending all this money translating documents and [instead] directing resources to ensure people learn English. And you do need to look at free movement.”

Next year’s election may not be based on ethnicity but it obviously will be hard not to notice that a British-Nigerian could become the leader of one of the world’s wealthiest countries.

On the issue of ethnicity, Chuka has this to say, “A lot of people presume – because of my ethnicity – that I come from a particular social background. I am very quick to disabuse people of any sense that I’ve wanted and struggled in the way that, say, my father did. I come from a fairly middle-class background. People try and pigeonhole you in a box and I find that frustrating sometimes.”

If Chuka is hard to pigeonhole, that may be linked to his own pedigree. It seems likely, if not certain, that Chuka, whose name means God is the greatest, is destined to become a larger presence in his party and thus a bigger potential target despite being a person whose father came to the UK from Nigeria without a dime.

Health / Re: Dr Ameyo Adadevoh Dies Of Ebola Virus by Drone007: 11:21am On Aug 20, 2014
Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh of
First Consultants Hospital has
died from the Ebola Virus
Disease, which she
contracted after attending to
Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian/ American who brought the
disease into Nigeria.

Our sources say she
died this afternoon, Tuesday, 19
August, 2014, at an isolation
centre where she had been
quarantined along with other
doctors and nurses who treated Sawyer at First Consultants
Hospital, Obalende, Lagos.

Over the weekend, reports had suggested that she had survived the disease and had been
discharged from quarantine, until
the Minister of health, Professor
Onyebuchi Chukwu issued a
statement clarifying that she
was not the survivor.

Although, there was high hopes
that she would miraculously pull
through, it didn’t become a
reality.

She is survived by her son and
husband. May her soul rest in
perfect peace.

Romance / Re: Man Sends Wife Spreadsheet Of Times She Denied Him Sex by Drone007: 7:19pm On Jul 21, 2014
[quote author=50calibre]A man decided to let his wife know that he was unsatisfied with their relationship – by sending her a spreadsheet detailing all the excuses she gave for not having sex with him.
In a post on the sub-Reddit /r/Relationships, a 26-year-old woman revealed that as she was driving to the airport for a 10-day business trip, her husband (also 26) sent her an email containing the offending spreadsheet.

I open it up, and it’s a sarcastic diatribe basically saying he won’t miss me for the 10 days I’m gone. Attached is a SPREADSHEET of all the times he has tried to initiate sex since 1 June, with a column for my “excuses”, using verbatim quotes of why I didn’t feel like having sex at that very moment.
“This is a side of him I have never seen before,” she added.“Bitter, immature, full of hatred.”

Here comes the Butcher of Ibadan, again!!!!

Lead us to Sambisa Forest, Danjuma tells Jonathan

The Chairman of the Victims Support Fund, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), on Wednesday said members of the committee would not visit Sambisa Forest believed to be one of the strongholds of the Boko Haram sect except President Goodluck Jonathan was ready to take the lead.

He spoke just as Jonathan vowed that the days of the sect were numbered.

Danjuma, a former Minister of Defence, spoke while responding to Jonathan’s inauguration speech in which he tasked members of the committee to be ready to visit all parts of the country including the dreaded forest.

“Mr. President, we won’t go to Sambisa Forest. As the Commander-in-Chief, you should take the lead and we will follow,” he said amidst laughter from those who attended the inauguration.

Danjuma also shocked those in attendance when he told the President that the insurgents, who were wreaking havoc in parts of the country were having the upper hand.

He stressed the need for the war to be won quickly.

The National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), agreed with Danjuma that the war must be won quickly.

He said the government had realised that it was time to draw the line.

“We have realised that the time has come to draw the line. We will win the war and do so quickly,” he promised.

Jonathan, in his inauguration speech, said the days of the Boko Haram sect were numbered and that it was a matter of days for their violent campaign to come to an end.

He regretted that members of the sect had wasted unimaginable human and material resources since they started their campaign of violence.

He noted that the sect members had been brainwashed into believing that they were doing God a favour, describing them as enemies of humanity.

While saying that there would be no hiding place for the sect, Jonathan said his government would expose them.
