PAID OR UNPAID HOTEL BILLS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE THE ISSUE NOW. THESE VOLUNTEER EBOLA FIGHTERS RETURNED TO NIGERIA ON MAY 23. THEY NEED TO BE IN QUARANTINE FOR THE NEXT 21 DAYS STARTING FROM THE DATE OF THEIR ARRIVAL BACK TO NIGERIA(SPECIFICALLY TILL JUNE 13). WHY WERE THEY NOT PUT IN QUARANTINE RIGHT AWAY? WHY SEND THEM TO A HOTEL? THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER REALLY. AND THESE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ENTERING AIRPLANES, MIXING WITH THE PUBLIC, BUT WITHOUT THE RELEVANT NIGERIAN HEALTH AUTHORITIES CLEARING THEM OF EBOLA? IS THE PUBLIC HEALTH OF NIGERIANS NOT BEING THREATENED? IS THIS NOT OPENING NIGERIA UP TO ANOTHER ROUND OF EBOLA OUTBREAK?

We have six geo political zones, three in the north and three in the south.

The only zones not getting a key position are SS/SE and that's because of the outcome of the election. Besides, it's not even a done deal that a SS rep cannot eventually become speaker of the HOR.

Key ministerial positions are the other realistic ways to carry SE/SS along in this dispensation. After all, politics is a game of number.

Femi Fani-Kayode, the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, says he is not seeking asylum in any country across the world and reiterated that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party in spite of its defeat in the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

Fani-Kayode said this while fielding questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Thursday.

“Insinuations that I was about seeking political asylum abroad, following the failure of the party to win the 2015 presidential election, is not true.”

“We are not going anywhere, I can speak for myself and I can speak for many others. We are here to stay. We will provide a virile opposition to the APC.

“We will do all that needs to be done to ensure that the incoming government remains on its toes and we will all do this in a very peaceful and a very honourable way.

“But, nobody is going anywhere as far as I’m concerned, we are here to stay, neither are we running away, there is nothing to be scared of, we fought hard, we did well.

“I’m very proud of my team, I am proud of my campaign organisation and we will continue in the trenches until this country is on the road to success and we will continue to do that.”

He assured that the PDP would join hands with other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), to move the nation forward.

According to him, the PDP is not divided as is being speculated in some quarters, but will remain stronger and united for the general progress of the country.

How many APCniks found Nigeria oppressive to even consider going into exile under President Jonathan? What with all this baying for blood in the anticipatory Buhari -led Nigeria? Is it still democracy that Nigerians want, or a rule of the mailed fist? Is the 2015 elections the end of every elections in Nigeria? Or, will there still be many more elections? And are parties and players in the just-concluded polls (winners and losers, but especially the winners) really aware that what they do not condemn now, and, or tacitly approve now would determine how they are assessed four years from now?

Politics / Re: Buhari's Restriction On AIT: Undemocratic, Unpresidential And Unacceptable by Drone007: 12:17pm On Apr 28, 2015
barcanista:
My heart was filled with grief after reading the Vanguard Report titled "Hate campaign: Buhari fights back, bars AIT from covering his activities - http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/hate-campaign-buhari-fights-back-bars-ait-from-covering-his-activities/.

The question that stroke through my mind was "Can this be be justified in any sane democracy?".

It appears like Muhammadu Buhari is yet to come to terms with the present day democratic dispensation that he is bound to lead for the next for years or he is just acting naive. Perhaps the Daura-born General wants to bring back Decree 4 through the back door or he is out to fight any media organisation that he considers to be his adversary. Whatever be the case, Nigerians will not allow anyone to tamper with the freedom of media as provided by the 1999 Constitution.

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari need to be reminded that Sections 22 and 39 (1)(2) (quoted below) specifically made provision for Press Freedom.

Press Freedom In Nigeria's Constitution
Section 22 of the Nigerian 1999 constitution states that: “the press, radio, television and other agencies of mass media shall at all times be free to uphold the fundamental objectives contained in this chapter and uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people.”

Section 39(1) States that "Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference.
Section 39(2) further went on to say "Without prejudice to the generality of subsection(1) of this section, every person shall be entitled to own, establish and operate any medium for the dissemination of information, ideas and opinion."

Buhari Should Remember His Words on Press Freedom
At his interactive session with members of Newspapers Proprietors of Nigeria (NPAN) and Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) on March 17, 2015, he pledged to uphold Press Freedom and to be a friend of the Press. In his own words...

“Concerning the Decree 4 of 1984, I have to assure you that the time for that is over. That was part of military administration and dictatorship, but I have also promised you that I am now a converted, and converted democrat. Therefore, I want to assure you that I am going to be a friend of the media and this time, I will work well with you as friends and partners in the development of the nation, and that is my promise to you.”

“I want to give you my full assurances that in this democratic dispensation, I will ensure that the Nigerian Constitution is upheld. This includes respect for the media, respect for the right to free expression and freedom of speech. I have said elsewhere that I cannot change the past. But I can change the present and the future. Dictatorship goes with military rule as do edicts such as Decree 4"

"...I will continue to promote the consolidation of democracy in our great country, Nigeria, by guaranteeing that the media’s freedom is not compromised in any way. I give you my full assurances that the Nigerian media will be free under our APC government.”.
http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=109636

The Unfortunate AIT Restriction
It is a unfortunate that President-elect Muhammadu Buhari that claimed to be a "reformed democrat" throughout the electioneering period will take the ignoble decision of preventing AIT from covering his activities even before taking oath of office. It is also unfortunate that the man that pledged to be a friend of the media will issue restricting order on a law abiding corporate citizen and a legally recognise media house. Buhari is expected to treat all members of the Media in the most appropriate manner. He should remember that the rights of the media as enshrined in the Constitution is not subject to change via Presidential desire. If he hasn't been told, he should be aware that his restriction on AIT is undemocratic and can never be tolerated in any sane democracy. If the President-elect has anything against AIT, he should seek redress in court. He may not like AIT as a media outfit but he should allow them conduct their duties unfettered as long as they operate within the ambit of the law.

Finally, let me remind President-elect Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians are looking up to him to fulfil his numerous electoral promises. We will not tolerate any form of impunity or "executive rascality" whether from him(as President) or from any officer of his incoming government.

God Bless Nigeria

Politics / Re: African Countries Happy Over President Jonathan’s Defeat – Obasanjo by Drone007: 11:14am On Apr 26, 2015
Novaworld:
Former president, Olusegun obasanjo, on Thursday said countries across the african continent are happy over the outcome of the presidential election in Nigeria, which saw the defeat of incumbent president Goodluck jonathan.

Mr. obasanjo said his checks in a number of african countries suggested they were as happy over the result of the election as majority of Nigerians are.

He referred to president Goodluck jonathan as a moving train who was providentially stopped from collapsing Nigeria.
“I have visited six countries since the election, they are as happy about the results as we are in Nigeria. It is good not only for Nigeria, it is good for Africa and I believe it is good for the world.”

Mr. obasanjo, who led the african Union Observation Mission to the April 2015 General Election in Sudan, spoke on Thursday at a Washington DC event.

The former president described Nigeria as a country that obsessively plays “a dangerous game of moving close to the precipice”.

He said the country came close to disintegration in the run-up to the 2015 elections but switched swiftly to the path of redemption after the polls.

“I hope we will not fall over one of these days,” he said.

He said one month to the election, no one believed “we will have a peaceful election that is reasonably free and fair.”

Describing his role in the election as that of a person standing on the track of a moving train, the former president said during the countdown to the elections, he faced the option of “jumping off” the tracks or “be crushed” if the train did not providentially get “derailed and stop.”

He said he did not jump and was not crushed adding that “at every stage, there must be leaders imbued with sufficient courage and will to stand firm when you have to stand firm.”

He described the results of the elections as what Nigerians “deserve” though some Nigerians “did not want it”.

Mr. obasanjo was the featured speaker at the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) event titled What is Right with Africa: Reframing Africa’s Leadership Challenges.

He made these remarks in response to a question by Princeton Lyman, a former ambassador to Nigeria.

Mr. obasanjo observed that Nigeria’s tendency to flirt with near-death experiences stretches back to colonial times when it almost cost the country the chance of gaining political independence from Britain.

Recalling colonial-era disagreements over self-rule, the former president said at a stage, advocates of self-rule from the Eastern and Western Regions decided to “let the North go” since their leaders were reluctant to accept regional autonomy back then.

“But reason prevailed,” he said, “East and West got internal autonomy in 1957, North got same in 1959 and the whole country got independence in 1960.”

Listing the 1964 post-election violence in the south west and the 1966 coup d’etats which led to “pogrom and civil war” as other self-destructive phases in the country’s history, the former president remarked that Nigeria emerged from all of these as “one entity” in spite of contrarian speculations.

“Not only did we survive the civil war but, within nine years, somebody from the rebel side, as we called them, and somebody from the vandal side, as they called us, became president and vice-president of Nigeria. Not many countries achieve that,” he said.

president obasanjo described the 2015 election as “almost in the same category” as other near-death experiences in Nigeria’s history.

He said one month to the election, no one believed “we will have a peaceful election that is reasonably free and fair.”

“I think we are now building institutions that can withstand what we may see as danger to good governance in Africa. The election has moved Nigeria one very important step up in our democratic dispensation, process and practice.”

Politics / Re: Diezani Confesses: I Stepped On Big Toes, But I Never Commited Any Crime by Drone007: 1:09am On Apr 23, 2015
Editor1:
Diezani Alison-Madueke, minister of petroleum
resources, says she has not committed any
crime and is not seeking asylum, even though
she stepped on big toes during her tenure.
Fielding questions from the media in Abuja on
Wednesday, Alison-Madueke — probably the
most criticised minister under President
Goodluck Jonathan — said her recent meeting
with Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of
state, had nothing to do with speculations that
she was looking for “soft landing” from the in-
coming administration.

She said: “I have not sought such assistance
because I am not aware that I have been
indicted of any crime that I will need a soft
landing. Over the last four years, I have been
severally and unfortunately accused and
labelled in so many malicious and vindictive
ways. I have explained these things and pushed
back robustly on these accusations and I have
even gone to court on many of them. Yet they
keep being regurgitated.

“I think it is unfortunate, particularly when we
are moving into a transition period and looking
forward to an incoming government which is
coming to take over where we have ended. For
everything that has a beginning there is an end
and that is not a surprise. What is the surprise
is the sort of malevolence bothering on
personal malicious libel to my person during
this period of time.

“I do believe that I have done the best for
Nigeria in this job and I have attained many
firsts in the history of oil and gas especially in
the reforms that we have done. In this period of
time, I have stepped on many big toes,
particularly the toes of the cabals that were in
the industry when we came in.

“I have said severally that we will open up the
industry to all Nigerians, and we have, but that
is not to the pleasure of certain cabals. And I
have been continuously maligned because of
this. We have taken millions and in fact billions
of dollars out of the hands of multinationals and
their subcontractors and put them in the hands
of Nigerians through the Nigerian Content.
Hundreds of thousands of Nigerians have come
into the oil and gas industry because of our
reforms.

“Quite frankly, I think as unprecedented as it is,
it does not please everybody and that cannot be
helped but let us remember the unprecedented
reforms that have happened in the oil industry
during our time, such as major gas reforms, the
Petroleum Industry Bill, which has been
completely revised, reformed and put into the
hands of members of the National Assembly
where it has languished for two years.”
She also spoke on the alleged missing funds
from the coffers of the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as well as
allegations of wasteful spending by her.
According to her, some of the allegations were
made because of the reforms contained in the
PIB.

She said: “In that bill are all the reforms needed
to tear NNPC apart, make it a National Oil
company, an equity share company through
transparency, accountability and responsibility
and reduce corruption in the industry. We did all
theses and we put them in place to reduce
corruption, so for me to be tagged with various
tags of corruption, $10 million jet purchases,
who buys jet for $10 million dollars for
goodness sake?

“And $20 billion missing money for which PWC
had done a report and the $1.48 billion which is
not missing, which is actually money
transferred by the NNPC to NPDC which is a
subsidiary and NPDC has actually started
making payments under my directives. I have
said during our time that there are gaps in the
NNPC and I said that openly.

“But I can also say that at no time in Nigerian
history in the oil and gas has the NNPC been as
open and audited as it is today. It has been
positioned to go forward in the industry. It is
true that the revenue profile is not sustainable.
But we have done our best and the Nigerian oil
and gas sector is today in a better shape than it
has ever been in terms of achievements that we
have recorded.

“So let me state it clearly for the records that
Nigeria is my country and I am not going
anywhere. I love my country and I do think that
I have done the best for my country and I would
also like to point these malicious, malevolence,
vindictive libels need to stop.

“We have done enough for this industry, we
cannot please everybody. Yes, we have stepped
on toes but we did that in the best interest of
Nigeria and we have opened up the oil and gas
industry to all Nigerians, thousands of
Nigerians have benefitted from our reforms in
the system.”

Alison-Madueke, who rose to the position of
director in Shell Nigeria, was appointed minister
of transportation (now divided into works,
transport and aviation) by late President Umaru
Musa Yar’Adua in 2007.

She was later moved to the ministry of solid
minerals, before Jonathan appointed her
minister of petroleum ministry.

Along with late Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, who
served as minister of health from 1985 to 1993,
Alison-Madueke is the longest serving minister
in Nigeria’s history.

If she stage-managed this saga, then she has succeeded in taking the unraveling deconstruction of Ghanaian womanhood to a completely new depressing level, diminished as Ghanaian womanhood is already by the new fad of young Ghanaian women video-taping their illicit sexual escapades and posting such on the social media. For Africa's sake, Mother Ghana does not deserve this! This should stop already!

So what if they do? Freedom of Association is still a cardinal pillar of democracy, including the one in Nigeria where a soldier who torpedoed and destroyed democracy has today become a major beneficiary of the democracy he scuttled even becoming president-elect. If there is any problem, it is the rising cult of leader worship. Because the cult of leader worship breeds and encourages dictatorship which invariably stifles democracy! BEWARE THE VICIOUS CIRCLE, NIGERIA!

Politics / Re: How World Leaders Plotted Jonathan's Defeat by Drone007: 8:26pm On Apr 07, 2015
theorbiters:
The US and UK were particularly said to have completely bought into the anti-Jonathan project following his decision to turn to Russia for purchase of arms, with a diplomat in foreign service saying that it would have been better for Jonathan to completely move over to Russia’s side instead of playing in the middle.
According to him, “whoever advised him to purchase arms from Russia when a real war was on with the United States misled the president. You don’t even do that during the Cold War, let alone during this “Hot War.” There was no way US intelligence circle would forgive a big nation like Nigeria making such diplomatic faux pas.
“These security experts have serious leverage over American presidents. Regardless of any friendship that could be between (American president, Barack) Obama and Jonathan, when such security goons say it is time for a leader of a nation to go, American presidents hardly say no and, obviously, Jonathan had no serious pact with (Russian president, Vladimir) Putin, beyond buying arms.”
Since the presidential election result was announced, President Obama had issued about three press statements on the outcome, Jonathan’s concession and the need for the two leaders to keep preaching peace to their supporters as well as asking that finest democratic ideals should be upheld in the conduct of the April 11 governorship election.
A government source explained that Obama’s unusual interest in the governorship election was borne out of fears that Jonathan might take his frustration of loss out on the process and tamper with it in a way to give his party, which would be in opposition from May 29, an edge in governorship spread by winning as many states as possible.
In days ahead, it was gathered that beyond the phone calls, Jonathan may be visiting the United States as a special guest of Obama which, an insider said, is aimed at retaining him as the face of peace offering to the Niger-Delta, which is feared could become the breeding ground for fifth columnists that would make the nation’s economy unmanageable for Buhari.

The international intrigues were damn too obvious from the begining; they weren't hidden at all: John Campbell (the US ambassador to Nigeria during Musa Yar'adua's presidency put out the warning of heaven falling should a northerner not succeed Yar'adua (for double measure, he even went on to couch this American preference in a book); next Obama and Cameron went livid with anger at the Nigerian anti-gay law; soon the Obama admnistration abruptly cut off of America's import of oil from Jonathan's Nigeria; concurrent to that, the regime not only refused to sell critically needed arms to help Jonathan's Nigeria effectively tackle the boko haram insurgency but also barred others within the US' sphere if influence from doing so; on another track, the CNN suddenly but also questionably and absurdly became fixated on Nigeria, sometimes to the point of idiocy (for instance curiously relocating Nigeria's map to West Africa's Mano River axis in their reportage on Ebola in GuineaConakry, Liberia and Sierra Leone; mischievously reporting a terrorist attack in Kenya as having happened in Nigeria, all tiny parts working towards a purpose; frequent deliberate use of the medium's reporters, especially the Sierra Leonean Isha Sesay to insult the intelligence of Nigerians, etc); amidst all these, the emergence of Nigeria's economy as Africa's largest; Jonathan administration's boosting of Nigeria's growing local auto manufacturing capability, among others. I'm reminded that when Washington DC and London unite to go after a foreign leader, it's often not for altruistic reasons; they only do so when they see a leader is getting some things right for his country. For sure, 'happening now' is just the denouement of a complex plot; yet cometh the catharsis.
Stay tuned, Nigeria!

Very interesting times in Nigeria: Voices of dissent and holders of contrary opinion (including the local movie industry, Nollywood, the world's third argest film industry) whose candidate lost in a democratic election are being labelled and profiled by fellow Nigerians whose candidate won. WILL THE PRO-WINNERS SOON START ATTACKING THE PRO-LOSERS? Already reports are coming in that supporters of the vice president-elect looted a major international market in the commercial capital, Lagos, that is dominated by non-indigenes identified as tradional supporters of the incumbent president, AND THAT UNDER THE WATCH OF THE VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT AND HIS PARTY'S CANDIDATE FOR THE LAGOS GOVERNORSHIP POLLS scheduled for April 11.
Are these omen of what is to come in Africa's self-styled largest 'democracy'?

But,then,I didn't have any alternative,so I allowed her pay d rent. Now,she's claiming ownership, saying ..."which house, the one that I have been paying the rent or another one"...

And yes, he had an alternative knowing the kinda viper he married for a wife but yet, he threw cautions to the wind..

Maybe, I had issues reading the context the 1st time undecided undecided.. I had to read it again, and again, and I never saw where the OP mentioned earning 4 times better than his wife..

I'm done with the topic.. The OP should have gotten the advice he seek..

Please let's stop this, we are all the same. They can vote anybody they like, PDP and APC have their own supporters from different tribes and ethnic group. We should not be playing PDP game of tribalism and religious divisionism.

ACCORDING TO NEWS REPORTS, THEY LOOTED LOTS OF SHOPS OF THE INNOCENT AT THE ALABA MARKET UNDER THE WATCH OF A LAW PROFESSOR CHURCH PASTOR AND VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT WHO WOULD SOON BE SWEARING IN THE NAME OF GOD TO DO GOOD TO ALL MANNER OF PEOPLE REGARDLESS OF THEIR POLITICAL TENDENCIES.

IS THAT DEMOCRACY?
IS DEMOCRACY THIS SHAMEFUL SUBTLE ARM-TWISTING TACTIC?

AND, THE WORLD IS WATCHING: WATCHING NIGERIA, A POTENTIALLY GREAT COUNTRY IN THE THROES OF AN EPIC CHOICE WHETHER TO REGRESS INTO BARBARISM OR TO SURGE AHEAD INTO MODERNITY BASED ON PLURALISM.

DEMOCRACY MEANS THAT ONE IS CONVINCED THAT ALL, AS COMPATRIOTS AND FELLOW NIGERIANS, HAVE EQUAL RIGHT UNDER THE LAW TO HOLD CONTRARY OPINION AND MAKE A DISSENTING CHOICES SO MUCH SO THAT ONE IS READY TO SHED ONE'S BLOOD TO GUARANTEE THE OTHER'S RIGHT TO HOLD THEIR CONTRARY OPINION AND MAKE THEIR DISSENTING CHOICE WITHOUT LET OR HINDRANCE.

THESE ARE INDEED INTERESTING TIMES IN NIGERIA.

REGARDLESS, THE WORLD IS WATCHING; WATCHING EVEN THE TEXTURE, CONTENT AND STYLE OF THE CURRENT VICTORY CELEBRATIONS.

WHEN THE EUPHORIA OF THE CURRENT SUCCESS HAS EBBED AND DIED, WHAT NEXT?
MOTION WITHOUT MOVEMENT STILL?
EXPANSION OR REGRESSION OF THE FRONTIERS OF FREEDOM?
WITCH-HUNT OF PERCEIVED ENEMIES?
PURSUIT OF PAROCHIAL AGENDA, INSTEAD OF PAN-NATIONAL ONES?

REVOLUTIONS ALWAYS FIRST DEVOUR THEIR OWN CHILDREN?

AND, SURE, THE WORLD IS KEENLY WATCHING THE CURRENT UNRAVELLING OF NIGERIA!
