bakynes: Hello doctor been having dis problem since last year, I noticed my sight/vision goes blurry for about 10 minutes with pains from my eye balls and after I can see clearly again. Once I notice it's about to start I put on my dark shades and then it's avoided. What could be the possible cause and d solution to this problem.

please you need to tell if you feel uncomfortable under bright sunlight,cos as u just said you feel relieved whenever you put on your shades,so try provide more informations concerning the symptoms,so we can start from there...Thanks

pls try use glasses or contact lens as this is what can give you maximum and required vision...frm clinical experience,I ve discovered that glasses don't really correct all vision permanently,it depends on the cause of the refractive error and the magnitude of the error..for patients with low refractive errors,glasses helps to correct their vision over time,so try get your glasses so we can start from there first then you can always go for review of your case after every year,so as to know if there is improvement in your vision or any changes in your refractive status.try eat food rich in vitamins and minerals,these re mainly contained in green leafy vegetable and fruits.

Emmaesty: Hello Doc. I went for an eye examination earlier on this year. I could only read the first 3 letters and the optomologist(or is it optometrist) who attended to me said it's possibly glucoma(there's a family history). I did the eye pressure test and it was 16. I wasn't given any medications, just glasses. My question is will the glasses do anything for the supposed glucoma? I'm confused

kk...it shows your V.A was 6/36 since you were only able to read the 1st three letters and that shows you are either myopia or astigmatism..from your tonometry result,it shows your Ocular pressure is ok,would have loved to know the result of your opthalmoscopy and visual field test,that would have confirmed your glaucoma status.please just get your glasses and make sure you go for glaucoma screening at least once or 2wice a year,since glaucoma is familial..glasses have no effect in preventing glaucoma..thank you

yes,sunshade is very good for the eyes,it helps to protect the eyes 4rm ultraviolet rays..you can use the eyedrops wheneva it itches u also..eating fruits and green leafy vegetable is also very good for the eyes

I need your help, I have some issues with my eyes: its itching me and this itchying causes water to come out of my eyes, it also gives me a running nose and constant sneezing. Please note that this problem is seasonal especially during raining season. I have been to an eye clinic and the eye drop given to me only worked for some minutes and the problem will start again. The name of the eye drop is spersallerge. Please I want you to recommend some drugs that can stop this problem finally for me and also tell me what I can be doing to avoid the reoccurence. you are having seasonal allergic conjuctivitis,wchich is a sign of allergic reactions of your eyes..since you have been on spersallerg without any improvement,try get Zaditen eye drop and use 3x daily,really gud for recurrent and chronic allergic reactions..and make sure you try protect your eyes aginst the allergens..thank you

you need tell us your age,its really very important because from what you are saying,its really showing signs of presbyopia which tends to occur as soon as you are above 38 years old,it really involves straining of the eye muscles(ciliary muscles) in other to see tiny prints clearly,that will really help us rule out presbyopia and look elsewhere in the direction of other causes..you can really help yourself temporarily by getting pain relieving drugs in other to relieve you of the pain,but the pains will keep on repeating itself until the underlying cause is taken care of. Please try see your eye doctor as soon as possible.Thank you

jauntty: Good evening. Let me make my little contribution b4 the Op answer ur questions. From my experience in managing patients, your complaints are likely to be as a result of uncorrected refractive errors, like Astigmatism. Another possible cause might be 'dry eye' syndrome. The third factor could be allergens. To get a good diagnosis, let me know the following : Do u usually have discharge associated with the itching ? Were u still having the itching wen u were using the glasses ? Have u used any medication in the past for the itching ?

Well, when i did my medicals during my PhD studentship registration in UI; Eye test result was d only palavar, was only able to identify correctly 3 out 10 wickedly inverted alphabets. Lol. The young Doc. told me I needed more tests and probably correctional wetin call, I no dig d idea of wearing cocoa cola bottles for my eyes. Each time I strain to read something from far, d eyes tear. Itching occurs when I enter some cities especially Lagos right from toll gate. A beg effective eye drops or tabs to manage conditions. Have been using anti bacterial drops and d rests. Thank You.

from what you have said now it shows that you don't need drugs to correct what's wrong with you.what you really have is refractive error,which can only be corrected by eyeglasses. Please forget your perception about glasses,and get one now because this is the main solution for now.it simply shows that light rays doesn't form on where its suppose to fall on I.e the macula,this eyeglasses will help to push the light rays to the macula and give you maximum vision.the earlier the better,cos the end result might be amblyopia I.e loss of function of an organ due to disuse,which can't be corrected by any known means. The eyeglasses will help to relieve you of the tearing and itching..you tear cos you strain your eyes to see distant objects,thereby exerting pressure on the lacrimal gland which produces tears.thank you

kk...Its likely to be a benign tumor or Chalazion,it is really not a problem but it lacks cosmetic appeal, since it presses on your eyeball,it can lead to astigmatism in that eye.a minor surgery can be done to remove that.Thank you

episcleritis is one of the major causes of redness in one eye,please try explain more if it comes with pain and discharge. For people who uses computers a lot,there are special lenses wchich can be worn by them in other to protect their eyes from the rays from systems which has adverse effect on the eyes..these lenses are called anti reflection coated lenses and are incoporated into the patients former prescriptions if any,it helps to reduce the amount of these rays getting into the eyes wchich can cause a particular kind of cataract called UV radiated Cataract,and this can lead to progressive loss of Vision,which can be reversed by Surgery.So its better to use these lenses,as this gives maximum protection to the eyes. In other to keep our eyes healthy,firstly,we must always observe personal hygiene,make sure we inculcate the habit of washing our eyes with clean water whenever we feels any foreign body in our eyes. Also,before going to bed everyday we must make sure we wash our eyes with clean luke warm water as this will always help to remove debris and other foreign bodies which were trapped in the eyes during the hustling and bustling of the day..we must make sure we eat enough vegetable foods and also eating of fruits daily is very good for the eyes..Lastly,we must always try to avoid things that will cause trauma or injury to the eyes..for more information,you can send me an e mail..Thank you

tearing and itching are mainly caused by allergens,so drugs like mast cell stabilizers and antihistamnies will really take care of that..however,there may be other causes like refractive error,a proper case history is really needed in other to make a good diagnosis,so you can tell me more about what you think might have caused it,when you usually experience it and other symptoms, that comes with it.

I am an Eye doctor, I discovered through clinical experience that most Patients don't really know about some basic things and problems affecting the eyesn and these has led to simple eye problems being seen as complicated and frightening to most patients and they don't really know how to go about it. There are some eye problems that are hereditary,which requires normal routine eye examinations but due to ignorance most patients tend to lose their sight to eye problems that could have been prevented.
