DANILSA: U guys should pray his not a secret member of CIA, Mossad or M15 dis guys can do anything.

There is no need for any prayer. Let him and his CIA/Mossad/MI5 plan, plot or scheme whatever they want. Allah is the best of planners and a true muslim has nothing to (hide or) be afraid of: except Allah.

miteolu: Comparing late president Yar'adua of nigeria photo

There is absolutely no basis for comparison.

If Atta Mills was a muslim (and his family were practising muslims too) they would have buried him in exactly the same simple way. Muslims who were more important than Yar Adua have been buried wrapped in a simple cloth, into an ordinary grave. Not as much as a headstone or epitapth. Yar Adua being a president does not change the quality of his coffin, his grave, or place of burial, as far as Islam is concerned. Respect that and move on.

What next will you compare: that Yar Adua was not given 3 days candle-lit wake keeping?

2sexy: All this one wey ppl dey talk say things hard 4abroad, yet dem no wan com home.

Most people contaminate others mind just because they couldn't make it. I have come to realise that life is like school. Some pass and some fail. You are either on the other side, never both.

My school in Naija for instance, people would go out and say it is so hard to cope with academic activities. Imagine the effect that would cause if someone listen to them. Such a person wouldn't even know that the person telling him or her such is among the group who are scared, lack confidence or faith, lazy and not willing to work or read.

Such is life.

I love your analogy about life being a school and no sitting on the fence.

But as for your first statement, it is usually people based IN Nigeria who tend to claim/wish/portray/hope/lie/pray/think/argue/contend or insinuate that things are hard for everyone that is based abroad.

I wonder why.

werepeLeri: One question I always want to ask. Why do Nigerians travel to the diaspora and begin to work round the clock - doing three to four jobs. Is that something to be envious about?

Haba bros calm down. Ask yourself: Why do Nigerians leave their villages to come and do conductor work in molues plying third mainland bridge?

It is a matter of opportunities and freedom of choice, and MANY of us both in UK and US have loads of 'opporchos' and made the right choices. Let me give you a little perspective: An average, well-paid Nigerian banker needs two pre-tax salaries per month to make what I'm paid here each month (after my own tax and monthly bills). And over here...(this is the part where you pay serious attention)...I dont have Armed Robbers, NEPA, Pot holes, Boko Haram, unmotivated-strike-hungry-doctors, Farouk Lawan, GEJ or the infamous PDP to worry about on daily basis.

Stop all this wishful thinking that being abroad is all about hustling and doing three menial jobs at the same time. LOL.
Many of us are chillaxing in diaspora. We are legit, professional, well-educated ...and of course, well-paid.

Take it or leave it.

The truth is that hardwork and talent pays in that part of the world than in Nigeria.

In fact, much more than that, afam4eva. As long as you are educated (and legal) a little hard work abroad will reap what EXTRA hard work, connections, pulling-of-strings, nepotism, tribalism, PDP, that-witch-in-your-village and sheer systemic failure cannot allow you to achieve in Nigeria. Fact.

Is it still rosy abroad? You're darn right it is, for many people!

So the real question should be:.... 'is it still messed up in Nigeria?'

Food / Re: When You See A Man In The Market: by drzed: 3:25pm On Aug 05, 2012
Wislet: A man who:

1. No lady can take for granted (can't use food to deal with- assuming he could cook too).

2. Is caring (assuming the wife was indisposed).

3. Is dependable.

4. Is economical (assuming he was a bachelor). Not wasting his money on fast foods.

You have spoken well - largely, except for item #2.

Are you saying a man is (or should be) caring enough to go shopping only when his wife is indisposed?

I politely beg to differ on item #2. How about him shopping when she is tired? Or him shopping when she is too busy with her work (see #nativedoctor); or him shopping when she just doesn't feel like shopping or cooking (which, believe me happens a LOT of times, but many women but a brave face on it)? Shouldn't a man care on such occasions too?

I would argue that a caring husband will go to the market just for the heck of it, and not wait for an excuse based on the wife's physical or psychological condition before he shows her that he cares. Thats true love. And true caring happens spontaneously, gracefully, proudly and plentifully - and does not need an excuse to be expressed.

Lets take another example: Should a man smile at his wife only when (a) he has offended her; or should he smile at her just because (b) he feels like smiling or (c) because she deserves to see him happy? - I subscribe to options (a); (b) and (c) any day.

I hope you understand where I am coming from.

But we enjoy them sha, win or lose. Football is after all, just a game. Chikenan. cheesy

Less I am accused of digressing this thread, I am disappointed/worried that a sizeable number of women who have commented on this thread so far, think that for a man to be shopping in the market is synonymous to stinginess. Some men may indeed be stingy by going shopping, but these would be in the minority.

Apparently, from evidence/comments presented so far, many men go to the market simply because they like to cook, regardless of which of their fingers is carrying a ring. Others do so just to give their wives an occasional well-deserved treat/surprise. But there are also men like me who go to the market because.... well, I wish I could be more modest, but... we are just damn good husbands grin

Take it or leave it.

nativedoctor: My wife is a banker and I'm self employed. At times when I close early,I go to the market and buy foodstuff. I even call her from the market to confirm the quantity to buy. It removes the stress of doing the shopping from her busy schedule. I don't even see anything wrong in doing the cooking. After all she's my wife and the home is ours.

By far the best response so far.
Food / Re: When You See A Man In The Market: by drzed: 7:51pm On Aug 04, 2012
Some of the comments here are not only irritably funny but border on the ridiculous.

Since when did going to the market make someone less of a man? Okay, let us leave the open market aside for a while: does shopping in a mall also make someone less 'manly' too? How about going to the bank, taking the kids to school or running a business?

In my opinion, such thinking is borne out of sheer ignorance or the misplaced sense of male superiority which is so common in many of our so-called traditions. Not that I am against our traditions, but certain aspects are just chauvinistic, domineering and outdated.

Those who have a problem with a man going to the market either do not understand marital vows or do not love their wives - assuming they are married, that is. Just because we grew up and found ourselves surrounded by cultures that 'wrongly' treats women as inferior or belonging to the kitchen, does not make these aspects of our cultures right. Otherwise, we should bring back the killing of twins and other senseless acts of our forefathers. Abi?

I love my wife, whom I treat as equal. The only major difference between she and I is fundamentally a biological fact, which makes us attracted to each other. Hence, I follow her to the market whenever I can, regardless of the puzzled looks of the clowns who sell things to us. I also sometimes take the initiative to shop for food and groceries on OUR behalf. There is no moral, religious, ethical, logical, cultural, political or constitutional rule or law that says she MUST be the one who shops and cooks while I cross my legs and watch my beloved Arsenal lose a game. Nothing stops me from cooking and cleaning, at least our marital vows never stated so. Thats why I am so glad that in some countries, even men are now entitled to paternity leave upon the birth of a new child. Responsibility goes both ways and is only limited by physiological constraints (e.g. carrying a baby for 9 months).

Just saying. We need to 'reformat' our cultural hard drive. The era of homo erectus is long gone. Not everything we find our parents or grandparents doing is right or proper.

ekt_bear: How many Christians are there studying at King Fahd University in Saudi Arabia?

For your information there are MANY Christians studying (or have studied) in King Fahd University. Many are applying even in Nigeria as we speak. There are also many Christians currently working full time in King Fahd University. A lot of them from Nigeria too. Just to mention a few Christian staff (with links where available):

1). Mr. Adewale Adejumo (PE Department)
2). Dr. Robert Opoku (Management and Marketing Department): http://faculty.kfupm.edu.sa/MGM/opoku/

17). Dr. Jayprakash S. Chadchan - Probably a Hindu(City/Regional Planning): http://www1.kfupm.edu.sa/crp/jpchadchan/index.htm
18). The Late Prof. Olusegun Wallace (Economist) and his wife Rosemary Wallace

There are many more Christians in Engineering Departments (i.e. Computer, Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems, Chemical) as well as in English Language Dept, Finance Dept, Information and computer science Dept, etc. There are also Research Institutes and semi-independent colleges affiliated to this University which I have not even touched/mentioned. Google is always there for the extra curious.

And this list is from King Fahd University ONLY. Which is just one of MANY Saudi Universities. There are thousands of Christians in other universities, colleges and private sector/industry. Not one of them will tell you he was harassed or coerced to convert to Islam. The personal web pages of some of these Christians are provided above. Email them and ask for yourself. Make e no be like say I dey form lie give una.

So Mr (or Mrs) ekt_bear, kindly verify your facts before making wild insinuations which border on the inaccurate (read: untrue). Dont assume. KNOW for sure, before you make any claims.

Oh, by the way, you are welcome! ...for thanking me deep down in your heart for enlightening you on this matter grin

By the way, this allegation is without proof. However, if it is true, it is not a method of evangelism sanctioned by Christ and it is purely in violation of christian principles.

Ehem (clears throat...) On the flip side, havent many/most/all Christians been judging Islam from those (muslims) who abuse it? Why is suddenly not okay now to Judge Christianity from the attitudes of pastors?

How many self-respecting men (out of the approximately 3 billion men on planet earth) have you actually met? Or which dictionary did you use to get this definition of a 'self-respecting man'?

I love my wife. And I will sell moi-moi, akara, pap, epa, guguru and zobo drink if it will help advance her business without compromising my work/career.

It is one thing to question the man's action in terms of its effect on his work or the professional atmosphere. It is another thing to start pontificating on the qualities of a self-respecting man. Any man who refuses to help his wife (when he can) does not love her and/or does not wish her well.

This is marriage at work. This is what marital vow is all about. Kudos to the man.

I hate ANYTHING unnatural on a woman's body, save for body cream, perfume and the occasional lipstick.

Weavers - whether made from horse hair, cow tail, porcupine bristles or a kidnapped brazilian chick - is a definite NO-NO-NO for me.

I actually think that of all the fallacious, self-deceiving, low-self esteem add-ons many modern women rely on to 'look beautiful', the most irritating is fake hair. Who is fooling who? Unless my wife went bald, she would NEVER wear fake hair. Even then, she'd better consult Wayne Rooney and get surgery for hair that actually grows.

Just my honest opinion. No need for any woman in the house to raise dust grin

....meanwhile, how would women feel, if we men toasted them using fake voice, wearing fake gucci and wore fake fake moustache, had fake pot bellies, flexed fake muscles, carried fake wallet, drove fake car and faked our love for them

http://www.ngnewspapers.com/imo-state-news-gov-rochas-okorocha-declares-war-kidnappers/

Dear Gov. Rochas,

You want to fight kidnappers? Start by adjusting our weak and archaic civil and criminal laws. Some tips:

1). Automatic sentence for kidnappers to life imprisonment with extremely hard labour - without possibility of parole or clemency.
2). As part of the hard labour, each kidnapper should be made to do money-generating task in the prison (crushing granite, making blocks, tailoring, roasting corn, carpentry, etc).
3). From the proceeds of the hard labour, 70% will be used for life-time compensation of kidnapped victims. Imo state can hang on to the remaining 30%.

The message being that if you kidnap someone, you will spend the rest of your life in prison, in servitude to that person and his family.

That is how you deal with these menaces to society. Get tough and get creative with the laws!
