MIKOLOWISKA: let me put it this way. for example I want to become the governor of my state because I feel I can move it forward but there is a problem I do not have 2million to get a form where as our constitution says that I can vote or be voted for . is that not a way of locking large segments of the population away from one half of the democratic process. a party usually gets by from donations of its members and that's why they have an ideology to appeal to prospective members. also how do I vote for the guards via big wigs? wow China rules by the barrel of the gun yet its outpacing the bastion of democracy. and to your point about having those system I would say no we do not. a good workman will be a bad workman if the tools are bad. what I am saying and will continue to reiterate is that we need to find a system that will work for us. |

EternalTruths: if there is one thing about the north then its there clear hierarchy, terrible for direct rule but great for indirect rule. simply convince their traditional rulers and religious leaders that it would be be better for them to have their own source of income than to be beholden to others for food |

MIKOLOWISKA: Indian can hardly manage its population due to its large size, terrain and uneducated rural dwellers who are the large contribution to its pop problem. China needed large pop to replace its loss in ww2 and later it got out of hand now they are managing it as best as possible. a largely educated population will see the need to resolve disagreements with violence reduced and would also see the birth of innovations and inventions. do you realise that the ethnicity and religious tolerance we see at play can be largely attributed to the lack of education. also why do you see the need to privatize everything. capitalism is all well and good in certain aspects but in others not so much. Nigeria is not yet advanced for the level of privatisation you are talking about as the institutions to checkmate excesses can easily be subvert . just research on our mining system and deals with Indians and Lebanese and you will realise so, if that is to much work for you look at our power sector. until you realise that privatization/capitalism is the corporation first the population a distant third then you will realise. in fact just look at America's slow transition to corporatocracy and then you will reject such a system anyway I am not advocating for full on government control but its control in some key and vital sectors also taxation done wrongly can do what you say but if done correctly it can be used as an incentive to increase production. |

MIKOLOWISKA: let me tell you do you really think I would contest or plan to become president and change this country without stacking the deck in my favor. such has been tried in other nations and it ended either in civil war or the death of the leader. I would simply campaign to make sure that at least a third of the legislature are like minded individuals. again the guy u re replying to made a damn good point striking indiscriminately without a purpose. while I was in secondary school some who were 3-4 yrs ahead had gone to the uni, I had graduated and these guys were still in uni(4 yr courses). our education system is still in the doldrums due to this and I can even make a case saying this has also affected our health care. what also gives doctors the right to go on strike(this is an essential service) hundreds if not thousands die anytime this medical personnel go on strike which is a gross violation of their Hippocratic oaths. we should stop the misinterpretation. under the right circumstances socialism can and will work and even endure for a long time. capitalism is not the be all and end all . |
Politics / Re: How Would You Fix Nigeria If You Were The President? by Dsov2016: 10:02am On Jan 03, 2018 |
EternalTruths: most of their leaders are unimaginative and would rather want a quick and easy source of cash . do you know that the northern states have arable land for cotton and wheat combine this with the population and mineral potential of some states and you could have an economic powerhouse ( that's if the reports are not false). also I never said it was easy. in fact if there is one thing universal is that people would rather not pay tax no matter how little it is. the major problems I believe the north has is lack of education and religious tension/intolerance |
Politics / Re: How Would You Fix Nigeria If You Were The President? by Dsov2016: 9:54am On Jan 03, 2018 |
MIKOLOWISKA: wow that's nice but do you think privatisation benefits the common man. a corporation will always first look for profit and if the best way to get profit is at the expense of the common man then so be it. its even worse in Nigeria where it is so easy to subvert the institutions. if you think I'm lying just research why our mining sector is in the doldrums. in the area of education more educated people means an enlightened populace which would mean more people willing to resolve arguments by debates rather than force of arms but more importantly it will encourage innovations |

waldigit: really love point 2. one of the major problem in and out of the country is identity. I remember a story of some criminals who were deported and they said they were Nigerians. it was when they came to Nigeria they discovered these guys were Liberians and gambians 2 Likes |

divinehand2003: Yes, but those same disgruntled elements would block such a move. look at the way they are gradually locking the common man out of the democracy( eg Dino's recall, saraki's trial, and even sale of parties form) even if the new constitution passes they would manipulate it to the point that it would be worse than the previous one. do you think they would go for a constitution that backs the FIRS to seize any Ill begotten wealth or a law that backs free education or a law that makes it possible for the gov to ask for the source of wealth or a law that allows for the suspension of immunity once misdeeds can be proven. such laws will eliminate the powers of sacred cows. Do you know that only a few of the security agents meant to guard us are in reality guarding us. most of them guard the so called big wigs, their family and worst of all their empty houses. funny thing is if the big wigs/politicians do their job right there really will be no need for their guards. Truth of the matter is we have to look at a party system that would favor us either the USA virtual two party system with independent candidates or the semi European style of Israel(but with multi party, multi ideological - because a political party is just a big boys club if it has no clear ideological goal) or the Chinese communist system or others to numerous to mention |

EternalTruths: that why I said I would encourage a robust tax regime if 1 , if 2 it opens up a broad range of fund esp from some of the northern states and plateau in mining esp iron ore, columbite, some uranium, tungsten e.t.c but this would require a very heavy turn around in our mining sector, that sector is worth hundreds of billions of dollars annually but its left in the hands of very few individuals. if keeping status quo do not forget that gas is there. but I thought that every state owns the oil well located both inland and within a few feet of land and that's why they can demand royalty from oil coys through the FG. anyway I support restructuring but not in the way everyone is going about it. left to me I would choose UK system of only fg and LGA. I believe the states are the problem in nigeria. those governors are money guzzlers |
Politics / Re: How Would You Fix Nigeria If You Were The President? by Dsov2016: 2:35pm On Jan 02, 2018 |
I would encourage Nigeria nationalism and patriotism. I would implement a new tax regime which would tax according to your income/wealth. implement competency test which would do away with lurkers and ensure employment/promotion based on merit. invest heavily in agriculture in fact I would borrow Saddam or Gaddafi's model of government involvement in agriculture esp for rice and cassava for at least 2 yes before other crops as such heavy investment in rice in 4 million hectares can easily earn the country over $1billion annually and Nigeria has over 36 million hectares of arable land. privatise the railway as it seems the required capital needed for its expansion would be to much. revisit or revoke privatisation on power. nationalize the transport sector esp interstate transport. stop issuance of contracts esp road. the ministry of works is not there to be ministry of contracts and employ people to wot invest in health sector esp putting a model where the senior minister is in charge of public healthcare, disease breakout e.t.c and the junior is in charge of health infrastructure, hospitals e.t.c and ensure the take off of the NHIS scheme. encourage states to sell/privatise the football clubs. a full capacity stadium of about 65,000 can at the very least net a club over #890mn per season. also invest heavily in other sports, university sports to remove youths from idleness and give them a source of livelihood. invest in the education sector and encourage both old and young to go back to school . make sure schools teach ethics. stop lecturers from striking. try all possible best to make education as free as possible. it is a right not a privilege. encourage start ups and research in the universities to encounter inventions. in science and technology encourage think tanks and research institutes. Nigeria once had one of the best crop research institutes in the world, its time to take that position back. encourage research in alt fuel. also research paranormal claims. discourage teen and unmarried pregnancy as this brings unwanted social trouble, also encourage adoption and discourage more than 3 children per family in order to put our population dynamics under control. discourage the propagation of bad morals being passed by celebrities by making laws to discourage such and also discourage pirating/copyright infringement. also encourage arts and crafts and tourism ensure the security forces are trained in public skills and punish severely those who violate human rights. let every agency know its jurisdiction and not be used for grudge or revenge mission. buy new weapons/ for them esp the police, set up an internal affairs unit that monitors officers and also hire trained psychiatrist and psychologist. That's all for now my hands are paining me. will continue later 2 Likes |

Nuzo1: thank you very much. its so annoying when people use the case of eboue as a yardstick. does anyone know if his wife sued him for infecting her with HIV( that's if he infected her)? also there is no sane judge who would give eboue custody because of his large lifestyle. if anyone had gone carefully through his interview, you will see where he admitted buying flashy cars and living large and we all know what accompanies that. we all do not know what the lady passed through as we do not know her own side of the story. this was a woman with eboue before he ever made it. examples of how useless some footballers can be are Ryan giggs, Wayne Rooney, Sergio aguero e.t.c. |

tete7000: yes o. even if it is to commemorate that day during the world war(DEC 25th) when two opposing armies stopped fighting then shared foods and drinks with each other and played ball. that day went to show that there is a reason for the season, that we are all humans irrespective of tribe, politics, nations e.t.c. to reno we know its not DEC 25th that he was born, but we use this day to commemorate him, think of it as a sustained evangelism through the ages as people irrespective of religion love gifts. if you and your other fellows can pinpoint the exact date accurately and to the belief of all we would all move Christmas to that day but if not guy just go your house go dey dance one corner for Christmas day and no accept gift or anything that comes with xmas including taking ur children to santa, shopping and primping ursslf . come 2 think of it don't celebrate new year 2 as it was a pagan holiday to worship janus |

na so so straight to ASP them they promote all this connected northern to. why not inspector. they just want their people to reach the top quickly. anyway this is the problem of naija democracy, when those of their region are in power they have opportunities and high ranking open to them and closed to other regions. You can even see it in the way some of these northern rags and bone men(truck pushers) behave. they will behave as if they own the roads , as if they are the ones in power, crime perpetrated by them would be on the rise. just compare the statistics b/w obj, yaradua, jona and buhari and you will see it |
