@dtush..... Give your hubby a big hug and even kiss on my behalf please.....

The only thing I picked from your story was that he stayed home to watch the baby because she was unwell etc etc

I assume he sacrificed on whatever he had to do that day!

If only more Nigerian husbands would break out of stereotypes and be more cooperative as regards running the household and child care we wives would certainly be less stressed and less dependent on external people for child care!

Even where they cant leave their jobs to stay home at least don't leave the Mrs to figure it all out by herself.

I shudder to imagine if Mr dtush had done the typical "I can't stay home changing diapers ish"

I praise God for your family.

God bless and keep us all

Good morning beautiful mums, honestly I've been reading a lot of the posts here and they are quite enlightening. Great job . please I have some questions directed to the general house. Anyone with similar experience should let me know.
1) will it be possible to get my visa approved as my passport bears my maiden name, marital status single and my son(1yr 7months) has a passport that bears his fathers surname. I'm a 5th year medical student and intend to take my son for medical treatment
We have done our traditional wedding and the white will b coming up in December invitation cards are already out. I had my son when I was in my 4th year in sch.
2) what documents do I need to go withand which ones can i use to show strong ties here in nigeria.
3) what are the likely questions I could be asked.
4) which hospital can I contact to get correspondence
5) how do I make a budget does it have to be typed by me? A picture of one will go a long way to help. Thanks love.
Hi, i dont know too much but i will answer you to the best of my knowledge
1. I applied for my visa with a passport that bears my maiden name, which i have not changed till date, and i have traveled twice with the passport. Once while i was pregnant and second time with my family.
2. Have u contacted a hospital that is willing to take on ur son's case? Its important to have a mail correspondence showing communication btw the hospital and yourself
3. Even though i went with my marriage cert for my visa application, i was not asked for it. But u can go with the IV for the white wedding, pictures and all
4. You shld prepare a budget sheet showing your expenses, the naira and dollar equivalent. Your statement of account shld also show that u can afford it. On the safe side, have a million or so above expenditure amount in ur account. For the budget sheet, just use ur excel. Column one; Expenditure type eg hospital bill, accommodation cost, feeding, airfare etc. column 2 Naira at N510, the amounts in front of the expenditure type, column 3 the dollar equivalent. I dont have one anymore but u can search the thread esp part 1 n 2
5. For the likely questions, u might get asked y u are taking him out of the country for treatment and not using any hospital here, so u will need to get a referal letter preferably from a general hospital

U can pm,lets not clog up the thread has this thread is for a different purpose. Wishing your son God's divine healing

[quote author=shrekandfiona post=53803794]Hi dear, so sorry about your experience. Thank God your child is safe.

However, i will reiterate what alphahandmaiden earlier advised. Re-negotiate your work hours with your employers. propose a reduced work hour and agree to a reduced salary as well. They will accept as long as they don't have to pay for the shortfall.

I had to take extra 6 months off work without pay after I had my last child. My employers readily accepted as long as they didn't have to pay for my absence.

I am sorry to say this but how well do you know this your uncle who your child stays with till you come pick her? I hear a lot of child molestation stories especially with relatives and i fear for the girl child.

Hi Dear, thanks for your concern. She doesn't not exactly stay with my uncle, his wife is a full time mom, so she is always home with their kids and their nanny. My uncle is never really home. I have also scheduled a meeting with Head of HR today. We have an annex 15 minutes from my house, i want to get a concession to work from there 3 times in a week ( the days my brother has a heavy schedule)

Can you re-negotiate your working hours with your office? and see if one of you can drop her off and the other pick her up will work. that way if you go in early to work really early, hubby will leave later and drop her off at the school on his way to work and then you can leave work early to pick her up or Vice versa. you will have to work out whose work will allow for what and then decide who does what shift!

Combining childcare with work is not a walk in the park and a lot of compromises and sacrifices will need to be made. but there is really no perfect solution.
My sister in this Nigeriahuh except i work in a multinational. For now, her dad drops her off and the school bus drops her in my uncle's place. I stop to pick her on my way from work. Stressful but safer.

Dtush- Thank God for you sister. My mind just flew reading your story. Thank God it ended in praise. Register her in a creche, you can customise your request(5.30-6). It will cost you but your child will be safe. Get a relative of yours or your husband's to live with you that's usually the safest option. With a job like yours,it will be tough handling a baby alone. All the best.
My sister, if your mind flew, imagine me in that situation. I really wish we could get a relative. My parents are late. My sister dat was helping out, went for nysc camp in calabar, else she would av been home with the nanny. my younger brother goes to school. My mother in law is late, my hubby is an only child.

So my case get comma. The school she attends in my estate does 7:30 to 5pm.

Dtush,

Thank God it ended in praise. The devil is a liar

You can look at the option of a creche that runs like a home. You can drop off your child very early while the school bus picks/drops her there. Then you pick her when you return. Motherhood is a work! work! work! o

If you choose to resign, boost up ur bank account or have ur hubby drop some chunk of money in your account to keep u comfortable until you are able to get a source of livelihood that will enable you cater more for ur children.

Ultimately, pray about it and believe God for directions. He provides the best solutions
Thanks a lot. I will explore this idea. or u you know any around gbagada. i will be very grateful

My story. At about 4pm on 13/02/2017, my hubby called me. I could barely hear what he was saying but i picked up a few words. Start heading home, the nanny left Olivia and has jumped the fence with her cohorts. I cant even explain the feelings that tore through me. I didnt even bother to shut down. I just grabbed my bag, snatched my wig from my head and raced to my car. My boss and colleagues ran after me. I just kept muttering my daughter, my daughter. They tried to grab my bag, saying i cant drive but believe me i wasn't thinking. I got into my car and drove at breakneck speed to my house. I drove from my office to the house in 20 mins ( God really loves me because i cant even remember driving).
I met my hubby at the entrance to my street. The only words i could utter were "where is Olivia". He said home. I drove home, got into the house and didnt see her. At that point i broke down in tears and called him over the phone. I cant find her, i cant find her.
My neighbor heard my wailing and quickly brought her out to me. I cant explain the relieve dat swept thru me.
After i calmed down, i was told all that transpired.
My daughter was out of school due to high fever from teething, hubby stayed back at home with her because i couldnt take a day off work. He left home at about 3:30, as my younger brother was supposed to be home by 4pm. As soon as he left the aus. My nanny invited her cohorts to the paus to rob us and they had even packed a bag for my baby. Luckily, my gateman noticed the guys and how edgy the nanny was. He locked the gate to the house and quickly alerted the estate security. He also called my hubby, who in turn called me.
Upon sighting the security guards, they jumped the fence. If you see the fence dey jumped, even professional robbers will think twice before attempting such a feat.
Is this how my daughter would have been kidnapped? I thank God dat it ended in praise. The security forces in the estate showed their might by locking down the estate to apprehend them. The nanny and one of her cohort was nabbed.
It just shows how u can never trust anyone, this nanny was so meek, so loving with my daughter, i had observed her thru the nanny cam for several months to alleviate my fears, nothing about her ever set me off, which is weird cos as i risk manager i pride myself in being able to spot oddities. I treated her as my sister. We were never flamboyant with wealth ( as if this buhari economy is not biting everyone) in front of her.
Also, when God is speaking to you, listen up. Last week i just had this weird feeling i cld nt shake off no matter how hard i tried. I took it to God in prayer. I dedicated dat night for vigil and prayed, also fasted the next day. Going to work this monday too, i just kept feeling somethg is off, i kept having the urge to go home but i kept dismissing the thought.
At this point, being a mother is more important than my job. I think it might just be time to hang my boots cos where do i go from herehuh. I have never missed my late mom more.

The problem now is where do i go from here. I leave for work before 6am. how do i get her prepared for school, her school's last pick up time is 5pm. i am so confused

There are safe crayons from Crayola for 0-36 but the best place to check for Crayola is at The Reading Corner on Awolowo way in Ikoyi. AB Artworld used to have more options but reduced to just a few Crayola items because of lack of demand on the mainland.

Truly safe brands of crayons are sadly not sold in Nigeria because they ain't cheap and no-one wants products only a few people want.

Did you try my earlier mix of edible paint? That can be used with fingers or a brush and is edible. Just get a cheap, chubby handled bristle brush and let your kid feel like Monet. smiley
We tried it oo. But we used the bathroom for easy clean up. I just converted one of my old make up brushes, and she had on just her diaper.

We ended up painting each other. Was a fun mummy and me activitiy

Crayons and Writing

So, we see kids with crayons and we give our kids but don't know why. It's an important development tool ad Scribbling leads to Writing and Strengthening shoulder and hand muscles. It's important to give your kids crayons. Because a lot of toddlers start school and hate writing or write badly.
Interested. My 14months old has started grabbing Biros and Pencils. I read somewhere that introducing writing materials too early can lead to poor development of the hand muscles, ( i will dig up the article and post). So my questions are

1. At what age can i introduce any form of writing materials
2. She is still at the stage where everythg goes into her mouth. I tried crayon, next thg, into her mouth. Are there edible crayons and where can i get please?

Thanks

I really did not want to add my own two cents to this matter, cos i felt i would have nothing nice to say (infact, i am tempted to get cane to flog you sef). But we need to address this issue. My follow mother have been chastised enuf. Are you sure you aint suffering from post partum depression. You baby is only six months. I know of someone who did for almost 2 years after having her baby. I also had a touch of it

You need to reevaluate yourself. Do u get angry easily?, does her crying make you make to hurl somethg against the wall. I am not doctor, but i think you should seek medical help.

How would you feel, if she was beaten by her minders at the creche?.

Since money no be problem, get a nanny. We are not super human. Take days off at times.

I take a day off every month to focus on me, go to the spa, go see a movie or just lock myself in the room and sleep, to reboot. Been a mother is hard, esp a working mother with no help (not saying stay home mums have it any easy oo)

Believe me, at 6 months, you have not seen anythg, wen she starts walking and scattering the house nko, you go kill am?

You need a friend, someone to rant to, someone to help u, guide you. I am no pro, but for this little baby, i will do wat i can

You can send me an inmail. Lets talk.

Convention says you're spoiling her. If you don't want her to eat at night, suffer for two weeks. Give only water and endure her crying. From all that everyone says, they will happily sleep through the night or take only water if you force them to.

However, all children are different. My niece rejected food all day, so we pumped her with food all night. She used to take at least 4 bottles of cereal at night. Note that my sister had a lot of support, she always had family to help out with the night feeds.

So mama please pick a method that your power can carry sha.
Thanks for your input, i will try it out for two weeks and se how it goes

Good Day House,

Mamas please i need your advise. Since the day i gave birth to my madam( She was 13months on sunday). I have not slept throughout the night. We finally stopped breastfeeding almost two weeks now. But nothing has changes. She wakes up about 3 to 4 times every night. I am sleep deprived.
She sleeps around 9:30pm/10pm, den she is up by 11:30/12ish. I give her her bottle with warm milk and she sleeps back. She wakes up around 2am ish, and i give her her bottle with gerber apple juice. she sleeps back or i have to change her diaper if its wet. ( she hates wet diapers, so even if she has pee d just once, we either have to change it or just open it for fresh air, den reseal after about 5 mins).

Third time around, she wakes up about 5am ish, she takes her cereal or gerber yogurt with water den she sleeps back.

And you best believe she wakes up crying oo. except she gets those thgs.

And this is a girl, dat we have to force to eat during the day. We have to sing and play her fav cartoon ( dr macstuffins theme song to get her to eat.

What can i do, cos i need to sleep. I had to move her crib into my room cos standing up to go to her room became too tedious. Infact after the first time she wakes up and i pick her from her crib, she ends up in my bed.

Any suggestion is fine please.

All these talk on nannies and all their wahala/drama, why aren't mothers considering good crèches/daycares/nurseries ? undecided

I'm so not in favour of leaving my child alone with any nanny.

My son goes to a nursery (expensive sha but worth it). Staff ratio is 3 kids to 1 adult. Maximum number of kids in the room is 9. Kids are grouped in each room based on their age so you do not have for example a 3 year old is the same room meant for a baby or 2 year old. Breakfast, snacks, fruit, cow milk and lunch are provided and all I have to bring in is one meal a day. Nappies and wipes are also provided.

If I was in Lagos or any part of nigeria, I would definitely consider a crèche and if I need help with housework, I would rather have someone come on a Saturday or Sunday, do whatever chores and leave.
All you have said is valid, but for some of us, there are a lot of factors to consider.

1. My resumption is 7:30, i stay on the mainland and work in VI. What time do i wake her up, and drop her in school?

2. My closing time is unpredictable, i wont even thinking of leaving a one year old in school till 10pm

Weekends, we are always togeda, but sometimes i have to go to the market or need quiet time to read for my exams so i can better our lives.

I wish it was really as easy as you explained. Mesef tire for the whole nanny drama

How did you get your recent nanny?
You can go through trusted agency but there is usually commission. Which state are you in?
I guess your nanny was good, another option is to ask her if she can get anyone trusted and capable that's if she knows anyone.
I hope you will get someone soon .
And I will advise you get someone now so the old nanny will put her through and watch her, she can give you better feedback about the new person if she's sincere.
@ozycy, awww. thanks dear. I got her through an agent. I have placed a call through, but was informed they have none for now and all their nannies are taking a Christmas break. Hello mum,

I have been a silent follower for a while. Shout out to all the mums and babies in the house.

I am in a dilemma. My current nanny is leaving mid December and not coming back. She is 23 and her dad wants her to come get married. Even after all the counselling it feel on deaf ears. My baby will be 14 months by dec. My job is actually hectic and my closing time is not predictable ( believe me i am seriously searching for another, at this rate sef, i do not mind a pay cut).

So am torn on the next course of action. There is a creche in my estate, do i enroll her come January? or still have her stay at home?

Either ways i will still have to get a new nanny, and am scared about that, cos i will be away for the better part of the day.

Also, if i enroll her in the school, i will still need a nanny to get her ready for school, drop her off and pick her up in the afternoon.

With my old nanny, my sister was around to ease her into how we do thgs and also watch over her. But my sister has been called for NYSC and she could get posted to any state.

I am just confused.

I will also appreciate contacts for nanny agencies.

Thank you, apologies for the gbagauns, typing this in a meeting.

Please mamas you all have to help oo.lol. for the sake of that cutie. See pic

Biko, help me answer this question.

Thanks in advance
