Thanks a lot for the well explained response. Regards ifegy: An entry point into IT for non IT auditors is typically the GRC space (Governance, Risk and Compliance), a subset of Cybersecurity.
One pathway: Start in the audit area you are experienced in (financial, operational, etc), public firm (big 4 preferably; helps you stand out; facilitates entry to industry) or industry (multinational preferably; more likely to have IT auditors; more scope for getting where you want, great for your resume).
Get CISA, CISM done. AddIng in CISSP will help you go far in GRC and Cybersecurity.
Build rapport and credibility within your team, with your team lead, with the IT area. In other words, do a crazy good job at everything and do it with courtesy, professionalism, diplomacy and a good attitude. Take on any available IT aspects of your audit scope, which will be basic but nevertheless help you build knowledge and start building skill set. Introduce yourself to the CIO and CISO. Do a great job whenever you interface with them. However, respect the org structure. Don’t go over your own boss’ head or behind his/her back. Don’t let your boss hear from the CIO about your career goals. Also, don’t start talking about your gray eagerness to switch teams from day one. Your boss hired you for his / her team. Build credibility first, and your boss will support you, because if you go far, they will also look good.
As you do your job, look for opportunities to either do secondments in IT/ GRC, or with the IT auditors, or put forward that kind of suggestion to your team. If you can make an internal move, that will likely be an easier entree than applying externally.
Keep talking about your goals and the exams you’ve passed, so that the right people know (remember, you do the talking at the right time, to the right people). Keep doing a great job on your projects and most of all, keep being a great person to work with. You don’t have to be a super skilled, highly experienced IT auditor to start in the GRC space especially since there’ll be an expectation that you’ll be learning constantly in IT anyway. However, if you don’t work well with people, you’ll make it very hard for anyone to take a chance on you and give you that first break.
Do a good job, keep pushing and your dream job will find you.
All the best. |

hayor2014: I might be wrong, but I would advise you move from the known to the unknown..a few questions though
- where do you intend to land. -are your a full PPR or provincial nomination. -do you have certification for audit or risk management that you can use here e.g CIA, CPA..what certification do you have ... - are you landing worth family..
Your answers to these questions will properly guide me on how exactly to respond... Cheers Thanks for your response. I am landing in Calgary by month end and i have the full PPR. I have my CFE and ISO 9001:2015 and 45001:2018 auditor certifications. Writing CRISC as soon as i land (been studying for the exam). I am landing with my daughter only. |

Hello House,
Here to seek advise and Clarifications please. I will be landing back permanently in Calgary at the end of the month. I currently have over 7 years exp in Risk mgt and audit in banking and oil and gas sectors in Nigeria and its been my desire for a while to move into the IT space, IT AUDIT.
I want to find out if there are short courses available to newcomers in Canada most esp Calgary i can enroll for. I am reading for my CRISC exam at the moment and should write as soon as i land, and then proceed to take the CISA exam. But i feel like the textbook knowledge might not be enough to chart a course in this new field.
But i am looking for a more hands on knowledge and practical training to help kickstart this switch. Will appreciate any feedback |

Ozzz: @dtush, understanding you right, you have landed and gotten your PR card or you will do that in March next year?
If you are fully a PR , you can easily do an invitation letter for her to include in her application including your scanned PR card, Utility bills reciept etc Don't forget to state that you are sponsoring her in the letter
NOTE: Hope she has travel history.
Then ties to naija, her employment letter, leave letter, bank statement, pay slip, land documents in her name, cac docs of business she could be running on the side, return ticket showing arrival to naija before work resumption, then maybe an event to attend in Nigeria with evidence, could be a friends wedding invitation, a church program , a medical appointment could be dental in naija etc anything that makes you home bound after your specicified stay.
Hope this helps..... Hello Ozzz, thanks for the response. I already my PR, got it since last year and moving finally next year Feb/Mar, so the only thg i can add is my PR card. Since i have not established residency yet (just went for soft landing last year), i dont have utility bills and other to add, although i did file my tax last year. and no travel history at all She doesnt have landed property or anythg like dat. But i will work the event to add in Nigeria bit. |

Good day house,
Please i need advise on the best course of action
I am single mum (PR holder of Canada), i will be leaving Nigeria for Canada finally in Feb 2020 God willing. I am thinking of applying for a visiting visa for my sister to go along with us(me and my child) and spend about a month or so, just to ease the stress of settling down
She currently works and earns about 170k monthly and has been with her current firm for about her year. She has her own personal savings of about 1.5m, but since its my preposition to travel with us, i intend to cover all the cost associated with her visa and travel
Our parents are late and our last born is schooling in Canada at the moment, so basically she will have no economic ties to Nigeria except her job
Is it worth it to apply for a visa? and no, she has no intention to over stay her visa if granted, cos she is writing ielts in Jan and will start her own PR application.
If so, can someone please point out the requirements for visa application .
Thanks |

Hello Mamas,
Please i need help on how to check if my my child's SSN has been compromised. I tried to contact Equifax via their customer service but i couldn't get past the voice prompts cos i dont have SSN, and address in the US. I dont want to jump to contact IRS first, cos i am not sure and the person who might have compromised it is her father (EX). so i cant ask him cos he wont tell the truth.
Also, is there a way to ensure her SSN can not be used to file tax return since i have sole custody and i dont live in the US.
Thanks |

joe10: Since your application was online you should still have a copy of the medical result submitted earlier, scan and resend to CIC via their various email addresses and online email portal.
I hope this helps. This doesn't always work oo. My brother had to go back to the hospital he used and had some sort of rework medicals done. Dey charged 14k for this. He also did upfront medicals at Children's practice |

Hello House,
Please for people that have passed through point of entry esp Toronto Pearson Airport, what are the possible questions that can be asked an international student.
My brother is travelling soon and this will be his first time travelling alone, so i want him to be properly prepared.
I also intend to give him 1000 dollars and about 150 CAD for when he is travelling, as i already have his upkeep money in my own personal account in Canada. I am a PR. But i am back in Nigeria at the moment
I hope the money is not too small and can i print my statements for him to hold as evidence of funds. I intend to transfer the money to him as soon as he opens an account in Toronto where he will be staying with my cousin for a week before heading to school.
Also, i need recommendations for the kind of laptop to get him. His course of study is computer science
Thanks |

CanadaPR: We are hopeful it will. First, Unilag is a recognized institution and HRDC programs are approved by Unilag. Second, based on the fact that it is regulated by Unilag Senate and it takes 2semesters to complete, we are sure the program will have a good content. Hello CanadaPR, my younger sister just registered for this to boost her scores. So i wanted to ask if she should go ahead to evaluate her BSC while under taking this program or wait till she is through with this program to evaluate the certificates togeda. Congrats to all PPR recipients, May Canada favor us all |

joe10: Good Morning house and DOUBLE TWALE to our Honourable GURUS for their insurmountable contribution.
PLEASE IS 5 PAGES SOP NOT TOO MUCH FOR THE VO? HOWEVER, I AM THINKING OF EXTRACTING SOME INFO TO FORM MY LOE SO I CAN EMPHASISE MORE ON THE REASON FOR MY TRV REFUSAL. ALSO, PLEASE IS THERE ANY FORMAT FOR LOE AND IF YES WILL NEED A TEMPLATE FOR TRV LOE.
THANKS Following the advice given by goingforward and a couple other people. Try to put yourself in the shoes of the VO that probably has a dozen of applications to go through. In as much as you want to be detailed and through, i see no reason my your SOP should be five pages long. See your SOP as your resume or even LinkedIn profile. Let it highlight your strong points. Using my brother's application as an example, the SOP for the first two applications were very detailed and about 3 pages, yet he got denied. The last application had a 1 page SOP, was very brief and to the point. This doesn't mean all SOPs have to be brief, other pple have gotten approved with longer. Given that you are also including LOE, try to paraphrase and reduce the length as u also dont want to over explain and come across like you are hiding anything |

yk05: URGENT!!! Good morning everyone, can I withdraw the money transfered to me by my sponsor after printing my bank statements? It is advisable you leave it there if u can. Although in my case, i drew down on the money in one of the accounts i submitted during my brother's application, but about 70% of the funds in investments and the other accounts were intact. Yet he still got approved This does not mean the funds were vetted or not, or mayb they decided that the 70% was still enough |

We all going for canada visa will surely smile real soon!
ShOrt advice to people that wish to reapply real soon;
Do ensure you put in as much relevant documents as neccessary.
This is my first time of applying and i made sure i dint left out any docs... Because i no wan hear any ntory o. ThankGod for successful medicals though. Document over load sef can lead to rejection. There is no certain pattern with these guys. My brother's first two applications contained a lot of documents yet denials, the third attempt that was finally approved had just the barest minimum. Its that God factor that matters |

Blackbuddy: Hi, you will have to formally adopt her, get the court papers to prove this then add her to your application like any other family member. Once she crosses 21 years of age, she will have to apply on her own and cannot come as your dependent. Age of Adoptive Child: According to Nigerian law, a child must be below the age of 16 (according to the Adoption Act of 1965) or 17 (according to the Child Rights Law) in order to be adopted. The specific law governing the adoption will depend on the jurisdiction in which the adoption takes place. Adoption is out of it in this case. |

Bsbabe: Not sure what you are discussing here but if you are referring to a dependent, you can include a dependent in your application as long as he/she is under 22 years (it was increased from under 19). As long as you have the papers to prove he/she is your legal dependent. I had all the papers to proof my brother is my Legal dependent, yet i was told i couldnt add him. Called, emailed, asked lawyers sef. i could not add him cos i didnt legally adopt him, and the cut off age to adopt a minor is 16 years, so it was a bust. Check again for the CIC adopted definition of a dependent (doesnt include brothers, sister or anyone blood relation that is not a direct child or legally adopted minor) The age for which i can file an application to sponsor my brother is also 19 not 22 as it applies to dependents. i consulted more dan 2 lawyers |

Barryston: Someone should please help me answer this question.. thank you I dont know if this has been answered. But sadly the answer is NO. I tried to include my brother in my application(our parents are late and i could not). Although you can file for this boy after you get your PR if u are his only living relative. So there is the question of where his parents are, other family members and all dat. And u have to file he is 19. keep all documents that you have been responsible for him if you can proof you are his only living relative. Might also be wise to consult an immigration lawyer when u are ready to file for him |

canny201: Hi guys,
I am trying to review my options for meeting the PoF requirements. A family friend wants to give me the said amount. So, should I get the money across to my dad or mom and have either transfer the funds into my account with supporting gift deed documentation OR will it be better to get the funds directly from the family friend and buy T-bills for 3-4 months? I don't want my family friend to issue me a gift deed. Other suggestions are also welcome. Thank you. In terms of proof of fund, its usually more believable if its from a family member. So even me i find it hard to believe a friends wants to dash you such a sum. I think its better through one of your parents den to you. You will just include evidence of transfer from your parents. ( u can just print 3 days statement around that period if its not part of the days your statement will include or transfer receipt of the said inflow) and gift deed All the best |

stonecoldcafe: What can one do about a past employer who refuses to include roles/duties to a reference letter? Reason is that it is not part of their policy to state such.
This past employer provides workers to a vast number of institutions so turn over rate is very high. Individual (from central head office and not in city where I worked) sending generic employment letter may not be able to confirm my exact job function
Meanwhile i have an employment letter confirming role, full-time employment, number of hours worked etc but letter is silent on role/duties. Payslips and bank statement are available. Advice? Anyone gone through this? Do u have a supervisor or manager that can write you a reference for that job so u can back it up with the one you get from your company |
