WebmastersRe: Many Questions: Anwsers Please by DualCore1: 8:52am On Sep 19, 2012
keemax: Good morning my highly esteemed webmasters.

I did pay for monthly hosting plan with hostagor and domain name registration with Godaddy. I am yet to use them.
Your reseller hosting subscription with Hostgator has expired and isn't usable until renewed.
Your domain registration is valid for a year. The minimum registration period of a domain is one year so your domain name should still be valid and in your control. No need for any sort of renewal.

keemax: Is it possible to have multiple domain names on a single host plan?
Yes this is possible if the hosting offers the "Addon Domain" feature on its shared hosting plans. The number of "Addon Domains" you see for each plan (if present) signifies the number of additional domains you can add to a hosting plan. They will all share one cPanel account.

keemax: Apart from w3schools, can you please suggest a good link for in depth lessons in HTML 4 & 5.
Stick with w3schools for the basics, stick with a good book for the depths.

keemax: Dual core will you marry me?
No, these babes should lemme joor! angry tongue
WebmastersRe: Difference Between Web Portal And Website? by DualCore1: 6:27am On Sep 19, 2012
A website is mainly static with no user interactivity.

A portal is a website that offers broad services under one site. Its dynamic and can accommodate different users with different access levels.

Dude chill, if we don't start making our clients crazy with the mind blowing offers coming up from January 2013 we will sign off.
The webhosting business is a process, we had to learn how to walk before we started running.

By the way we have a running discount on the VPS plans and the promo code is right there on the homepage, we've ran that discount for about 6 months and people have been using it.

Don't worry though, there's more cake in the oven.

Meanwhile the next time you want to slap trudigits, just pick up your phone call me and slap me then we settle wink

WebmastersRe: Eyowo.com Seems To Have Lost Focus by DualCore1(op): 2:37pm On Sep 18, 2012
I don't think anyone here is mad at Eyowo just because they went down, at least not me. What pissed me off is their whole damage control, infact they don't even have a damage control system in place. Eyowo totally disregards its merchants. I have NEVER received a mail from Eyowo about situation reports on issues or even about "routine" maintenance. According to the message on the website yesterday they claimed the site went down for "routine" maintenance, which is a lie and I feel insulted. Let's assume that "routine" maintenance story was true... so a service provider will shutdown for routine maintenance on its website the whole of Monday without informing its customers? Come on!

If customers were informed about this it woulda saved me the embarrasing situation of having to start explaining to a commissioner how dem shoot bird and the mama fly. Infact I almost told the guy on the phone that Eyowo has been rebranded to Voguepay so he should check voguepay.com. I hate getting into tight corners with clients and I hardly ever do if all the variables are in my control and not some controlled by a third party. Some clients are "iPad generation" gurus and once they catch you offside they are so satisfied with the "shay I told you" euphoria.

Well, its a good thing they are back and its a good thing they are now settling merchants. Lessons learned by those who want to learn. Life goes on for everyone.
Dear All,

We sincerely apologise for the downtime. Yes, this may sound like another of many apologies. The system went down at our data centre and has been fully restored.

I actually read the entire thread and it appears most comments were posted by those who have little understanding of IT systems. Issues do arise with IT systems and unfortunate issues like this occurs. It does not mean the company is incompetent. Even recently, Natwest Bank in the UK had their entire system down for about 2 days and no transaction could take place. I need you to take a minute to visualise what that means to businesses and the amount of money that was lost. We need to encourage young companies in Nigeria and not come just online to make comments. How many of you out their have had the courage to start up a small business? You need to understand its not easy running a business in Nigeria. The running cost of IT infrastructure is so expensive. If you haven't done anything before, I don't think you should be out there making comments that don't hold water. Encourage Nigerians that are trying and you would one day be proud to be a Nigerian.

For the person who made comments about shared hosting, for your information it is not. I really shouldn't be explaining the whole setup to you.

Sincere apologies once again

Kind Regards
You talk about issues arising with your datacenter. Leonard this is not the first time you are having datacenter issues. There are thousands of datacenters in the world and my friend except you are going bankrupt you will never have the kind of datacenter problems you claim to be having because you will be with a good datacenter that wont have a single point of failure. Why do I think the datacenter is innocent and its just some incompetent hands pinching the innocent server? Well my thoughts.
My advice: Get a loan from a bank and get yourself into a datacenter fit for your business.

You talk about other institutions that have failed at one point in time or the other...my friend don't build your organisation hoping to copy failures.
My advice: In your entire life and for the good of your business do not justify your failure by citing an example of another person's failure.... apply this advice to your entire life and not just this business.

Its very possible to run a business in Nigeria, get the right amount of money and get the right minds to work. If you are looking for an easy business, quit. We work with possibilities not easiness.
My advice: If you are tired, shutdown... you were down for more than 24 hours and the world didn't die. If you are not tired, get your acts together. Your damage control is terrible. You go down unexpectedly yet you didn't think it right to put up an update on your twitter page even if you could not access your mailing system. You come back online after some 24 hours with a message that you are doing "routine" maintenance. What on earth is "routine" about a crash? Oh well with your present datacenter crashes and downtimes seem routine.

As for my comments on shared hosting, no you don't need to explain the setup for me I already figured it out.

Finally, for all those guys creating Voguepay Vs. Eyowo threads. Here's a hint for your next one.

A VOGUEPAY CEO APOLOGY
Did you say our Support was awful?
I think that is our achilles heel. We have no excuse. We are deeply sorry for those who have had bad experience in one form or another with our support team. I already said we do not have any excuse and I am not trying to justify the delayed support or the time it takes to clear local and international support queue. (Yes! we have clients all over the world)

Our phones are not always switched off, they are always very busy. Those who have visited our office can attest to this.

With our newly restructured support (and additional phone lines coming soon), we believe you will enjoy a better relationship with Afrisoft and her subsidiaries.

Eyowo is still down, not a word from these guys... not even a Twitter update. Last twitter update was in April and it reads "We apologize to our customers for the downtime. A network glitch at the data center where our server is housed was responsible. We are back". Downtimes look like a household name with Eyowo.

Looking at a whois on eyowo.com now is making me pissed:

Name Server.......... ns2.rapidswitch.com

These dudes are running their site (the main site at least) on shared hosting. angry

If you are good and you have a resume/portfolio to back you up, you should search job sites for companies and development teams that have vacancies of a remote web developer.

You should request to have all your money paid before handing over a project or uploading to its permanent location.

damola1: can anyone give just 1 reason or explain why they are better than Interswitch direct through GT?
Eyowo, Voguepay, Cashenvoy, Simplepay4u and the rest are aggregators of different gateways including Interswitch. So everything goes into one wallet. Payment gateways and their problems are not for all to deal with, so why will I want to add payment gateway / Nigerian bank issues (and paperwork stress)to my already busy work schedule when these aggregators are in the business of taking away all the additional stress?

I mean let them do their business right while I focus on my business needs too.

Simplepay4u can even be used to accept payments from international customers using their credit cards, from what I see on the site. I just have a problem with the user interface of the site (which I think is being worked on) and some other technical stuff.

@Dual Core Does Simplepay4u have a WHMCS plugin?
They will have one sooner or later, depends on them. You can contact them and ask.
I have made one which they have tested and passed, a few things left to do on their part before it becomes the official plugin for them.

WebmastersEyowo.com Seems To Have Lost Focus by DualCore1(op): 8:03pm On Sep 16, 2012
Ever since Ezra left Eyowo.com I have had issues with Eyowo's platform. He was the reason I even left cashenvoy to give them a trial because if anything went wrong I could easily get him on the phone or GTalk.

First, some 2 weeks ago settlements were not paid on one of the settlement days (Friday) and word wasn't sent out to any of their customers except you sent a mail asking.

Second, some 3-4 weeks ago Eyowo's site went down and we had a couple of payment for orders bouncing back because the site was down. Money was not really lost as the subscribers resorted to other forms of payment, but I hate disappointments from 3rd parties because some clients see these disappointments as coming from me and not Eyowo.

Now, this evening I just received an awakening from a commissioner in this state who just went to TruDigits.com to place a test order to see how Eyowo works since its the gateway I proposed we used for the second phase of a govt. project whose first phase I had completed successfully and has gone live. He tried to place an order some 30 minutes ago, all worked well until it got to Eyowo for processing and the processing died because as of my writing this post eyowo.com is offline and what you see there is the defautr IIS page.

Also, since last week Friday (which was the last settlement day) Eyowo has made no settlements. I am too busy to keep these settlements in my head and I won't be surprised if some have just been skipped like this. Its because of this downtime I remembered settlements were to be made last week Fridat (2 days ago). I have taken a run through the bank transaction logs from Friday to today and I don't see any settlements from Eyowo ...and again, no mail from them stating why the delay in settlements.

I don't see myself using Eyowo for anything serious from January next year. My problem with Voguepay is the 3k limit and I will seriously consider Cashenvoy and some guys who I recently created a plugin for simplepay4u.com.

Price is fixed at 50k. I bought that device 11 months ago, brand new at 95k. Except for the unnoticeable scratch I mentioned by the side of the body, it would pass for brand new. I can't even start putting a cost on all those additionally accessories which I got brand new off ebay.

I won't be bumping this thread further. If it can't fly for 50k oh well then it would keep flying in my car and causing the "wow what's that cool stuff" stare I get anytime I drive by wink.

What real problem has this solved? What thinking process did this idea pass through to merit this waste of skills and talent on it when it should have been channelled into creating a solution to a real problem or improving on a solution. Did Emeka tell anyone he needed a site to... infact I'm leaving the thread before I join in the time wasting.

Sorry bro,
I checked your site up and clearly the script is not connecting to the database.

It could be one or all of the following

1. Smartweb has killed the database somehow (I won't be surprised, nothing good has come out of them from the users here)
2. The web designer has killed the configuration file that holds the database connection details (very unlikely)
3. Mysql has crashed on the server you are being hosted on (Again, I won't be surprised).

Sorry sorry sorry

and yes yes yes, learn learn learn... so you can code code code grin

Really, the problem you have is a very easy fix if only you were not dealing with a ghost webhosting "company".
If you have login details of your cPanel I could look at it for you.

Nothing personal Billyonaire but you talk cheap. Your cheapness is profound because it is featured on most frontpage articles and those are all I read from the non-tech boards.

My suggestion, read more talk less.

Once again, nothing personal so I won't be engaging in a personal cat fight here with you. Not like I would even be back to the thread anyway... I tell it like it is and move on.

Take this like a man and sleep over it.

@topic
I don't see this stopping Apple, its only logical to think that Apple already saw this coming and have built up a solid case or plan.

I am in total support with the last statement in the first post, we all should leave haippily with our various platforms while the money spent on these lawyers is pumped into more innovation.

For the BB bashers, that's just a low blow. Don't bash what's already under, they have nothing to lose. I hope to see a RIM revolution one day.
