If you mean "gigantic" in the true sense of the word and not an exaggerated sense then your budget should be gigantic enough for a dedicated server.

With the kinda forum you have in mind, you should expect huge amount of I/O activities which will translate to a huge amount of resources being used.

Roughly be thinking of 70 USD per month for an unmanaged server (that means you admin the box yourself) or 120usd per month for a managed server (that means you leave server admin to those who eat Penguins for desert standing balanced with one leg on Windows ).

If your budget isnt cut out for a dedicated server, get a VPS which is about half the budget of an unmanaged dedi server.

Don't look for unlimited features, your (gigantic) forum dosnt need unlimited features. It needs a fixed and large amount of resources.


A rough spec for the server with the cost I have mention above is a 2x750GB Diskspace, 8GB ram, 5TB monthly bandwidth, 100mbps internet speed, quad core with over 2GHz cpu speed on each core.
Now this spec is Heaven on earth, brother

Nope, no autocomplete. I detest auto complete, makes one lazy IMHO. Nope no code errors shown, you only see your errors and warning when you run it in the browser (there's no place like 127.0.0.1). Its raw hand coding.

As per its niceness, I can speak for only myself. I will die without it.

Its features that I like
I can work with two files that are split on the screen.

I can change the pad's background to black so that's less light getting into my eyes since I spend my lifetime (so to speak) on it. You can see what it looks like in the "Terms of Service" on my site.

It loads up in a breeze. So i dont have to think up an idea then open an editor that will take 30 seconds to load up a splash screen (like dreamweaver or netbeans) before I get presented with my work area and voila the 10 million dollar idea i had just vanished within those  30 seconds.

Its a no bullsh!!t editor. get in pick the file you want to work on, write your codes and get out. No time for setting up projects e.t.c.
Its a very harsh editor 

It has perfect code coloration so you'd hardly get lost in a maze of divs :-p as it associates opening and closing tags.

I dunno what PHPDesigner looks like but I used netbeans when I worked with Java. That's some time before i got into web dev.

Notepad++, a modern browser, a local webserver and a determination to learn and code from scratch. That's all you need for web dev in my opinion.

Its a prepaid card so you dont expect to see all the fancy fancy on the card. Note, it is NOT a credit card, shay no be wetin dem write for the front be that?

CSC Lebanon are the Issuers of that card, even on sundays their CC Lines are On to attend to customers.

There's no where I havnt been able to use the card except some very racist sites, screw them. The highest they do is ask me to provide proof of ownership of the card, I do that and they apologize for being silly in the first place to think I will steal credit cards.

Even the so called GTB Naira MasterCard is no match for Zenith's Websurfer MasterCard.
