Douglasdale: ONITSHA — The Nigerian Navy at the Onitsha Naval Out-post in Anambra State, yesterday, arrested 20 suspected drug peddlers at Nsugbe, near Onitsha, following an intelligence report against the activities of hard drug users in the community. Briefing newsmen after the operation, the Commanding Officer of Naval Out-post, Onitsha, Navy Capt. Mike Oamen, said it was only by fighting hard drugs that the war against criminals and their syndicates could be won. Oamen noted that those arrested were selling and smuggling bags of hard drugs such as cannabis sativa and other stimulants in the community. He said the navy had assured the governor that Onitsha and its environs would never again be a haven and breeding ground for criminals and people with evil intentions. His words: “So, what we have done is to make sure that we begin to deal with the root cause. “After exhaustive discussion, especially at the security council meeting, we decided to look at how to reduce to the barest minimum, the availability of illegal drugs in Onitsha and Obosi so that it would also have an impact on the level of crime within the state. “We are working. We try to get intelligence reports so that we swoop on them and that method is beginning to yield dividends because the crime rate has reduced and we will continue to sustain the effort. “So the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, will now do its work by sorting those arrested out to know those that would be prosecuted. We’ve intensified patrol on waterways too, because it is part of the route through which they bring in the drugs in the name of vegetables. “Traditional rulers had given their unflinching support to the restoration of security in Onitsha and its environs by volunteering information that led to arrest of criminal elements in their communities.” The commander added that the collaboration of the naval out-post and the NDLEA would be a continuous exercise, adding that the navy would not give them (criminals) a breathing space in Onitsha and its environs. He said: “Very soon, those shops, kiosk, shanties and even parlours and hotels where hard drugs are sold would be closed down while their operators will have to look for better things to do.” me i know no say na crime to sell panadol.. |

koboko69: Its no news that when Dora Akuyuli died, we all sang of her achievements irrespective of her being an igbo woman. All tribes had one good to say about this virtuous woman, youruba, igbo, hausa, middle belt, south south. Without mincing words, I can categorically say this woman made a good name for herself. However it is something of great pain and concern to see how the igbos now support monumental corruption and impunity by this present administration. GEJ has successfully divided this country along tribal and religious lines. We have had several people accused of corruption during the OBJ regime, there were not screams from their kinsmen of victimization but rather cries that culprits be brought to book. Thieves like Ibori from delta state, we SS screamed for his head, Alams of Bayelsa state, we screamed for his head when he was accused, same with the former IG of police. When Bode George was accused, yorubas screamed and wanted him brought to book and answer for his crimes. Some of these ex convicts were granted presidential pardon by Jonathan and now in the folds of the killer party. OBJ is not a saint but we all know he at least brought some criminals to book, weather political witch hunt or not. Mind you most of them are fellow PDP members.
One question begging for answer is that can the ame be said about the oil goddess and the aviation bullet proof car madam? The reverse is the case now, what we hear is “she is our sister”, “we have to eat from the national cake too” "he is our brother" and other sick excuses.
Here is an extract from PDp’s own Vanguard.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/06/misdiagnosis-killed-akunyili/
The same Buhari igbos hate so much took care of their own by approving funds for her treatment abroad and commended her for are uprightness. The same OBJ igbos abuse so much online, appointed their own despite the tribalism card some forces tried to play. (the idea was appointing the right person for the job and not appointing criminals, or appointing for being loyal like Jonathan does) I am not surprised that this same set of online e-vultures celebrated widely the rigging into power of a criminal that was impeached before for corruption and still have cases hanging on his neck by the EFFC Jonathan have rendered useless. Meanwhile this particular set of e-urchins were all rampage all over the place when Sanusi was appointed an Emir, even though they know he was maliciously suspended for saying the truth. Till date he has not been charged or taken to court. I am not surprised this virtuous woman lost a senatorial seat in her own state simply because of her stand against illicit and fake drugs in the state. Ideally she should have won without any problems with her excellent records. The Igbos needs to look beyond tribalism and sentimental politics to move Nigeria forward.
DISCLAIMER:This is not to instigate a tribal war!!! Sensible comments only. movin Nigeria forward not only d Igbo man's job.. |

zeemo2007: President Jonathan keeps getting stern and grave as 2015 approaches. With all his strategies towards the achievement of his 2015 ambition, I am in awe of all he has been doing to achieve his desires by any means possible despite below par performances.
If GEJ can devote all these strengths and strategies he has been using to achieve his 2015 ambition towards solving INSECURITY, CORRUPTION, UNEMPLOYMENT, HIGH STANDARD OF LIVING felt by all and sundry, I am CERTAIN we would all unanimously Vote him back to office in 2015.
GEJ looks more decisive than OBJ that was also desperate when he wanted to achieve his third term agenda then.
It is obvious you would be dealt with if you are an impediment to the 2015 ambition of GEJ. We have started seeing examples.
We shouldn't be surprised if all the APC governors are impeached for corruption, misappropriation of public funds and other numerous offences that are clearly committed by all the politicians and office holders in the country including the FG himself before 2015.
Most of our politicians are just corrupt and power hungry bunch. What is the assurance that the APC folks wont commit worst ?
How do we expect an honourable, decent, and ethical fellow to participate in this type of politics ?
It is now obvious that Jonathan has been exercising the 40% to 50% of the powers of an executive president as enshrined in the constitution. Frankly, all of you are corrupt, thieves and heartless bunch.
It is obvious you will continue to be president till 2019 but please perform positively (We want security, employment, electricity and high standard of living) as you loot. Thank you.
Good luck to you GEJ.
