They must have missed it. . .

They decided to show VDV chest the ball and shoot. . .
Useless Sky Sports.
Are yu watching Sky sports at all? what are they discussing at half time? they've only given the normal Refree excuse that if the Ref isn't sure he shouldn't give it.
Hand ball or not, an opposing player should not have all that time in our box. 45 mins left to play.

Their right flank will be key, not much pace down there so they are dependent a lot on the outcome of Bale v Sagna both Gerv and Theo have enough pace to peg back the full backs. We've hardly lost a MF battle in this PL except prolly against Manure and that wasn't by finesse but a high tempo game with a very active contribution from the wings as well in Nani and Young. The Spuds team out there doesn't look like a high octane team to me. A lot of people might be disappointed today and Coquelin might finally show up as the backup/alternative to Song we've been missing cos he has a bit of a Flamini about him as well.

Starting Team list:

Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Song, Gibbs, Coquelin, Arteta, Ramsey, Walcott, Gervinho, Van Persie.

Give them hell guys, that team is good.

I must say that Spuds team looks a bit intimidating as well but this is going to be a battle of finesse, hopefully an attacking masterclass with us coming tops.

Meanwhile, financial results for the year is out and here are the highlights:

Group turnover was £255.7 million (2010 - £379.9 million). Reduction was due to the expected lower level of property sales activity.

Arsenal Net debt reduced to 97.8m (Gross debt still stands closer to 260m as I was trying to explain to a certain knucklehead on this forum a while ago) from 135.6m last year a reduction of about 38m.

Loss from player trading of 14.7m meaning that last year we were not a selling club, but we are this year.

Group profit of 14.8m as opposed to 56m last year, difference is due to the reduced contributions from the sale of apartments. Good thing is that we still made a profit even from the footballing side alone though I'd like to see further details of how much exactly that was.

Operating profit (before exceptional costs, depreciation and player trading) in the football business was £45.8 million (2010 - £56.8 million) with commercial gains offset by increased wage costs.

In all, I'd say these results give a truer picture of where the club stands than last year's profits which were grossly inflated by the windfall from property trading, depending on how things go as well in the January transfer window, the sales of Nasri and Cesc will likely boost next year's results in terms of player trading.

I'd like to also hold up my hands and say that we had money to spend in this window and we did spend but we have not really spent most of the money from the sale of Cesc and Nasri, that I believe has gone into a warchest (what I think Gazidis meant with the statement about keeping our powder dry), we were very cash rich this summer and doing some very dirty and rough accounting, you could say we had at least 38m to spend before we did any player trading at all (we didn't reduce our gross debt and interest payments are accounted for in the Profit and loss account so that much was at least available)

In all, the club is in very sound health and has very good cash reserves, not in the class of City or Chelsea but if we do need to spend in January (meaning if top 4 finish is threatened  grin grin), the funds are definitely available to do so, we should also move into a new level of commercial income within the next 2 - 3 years after our much maligned commercial deals finally run out so the clubs long term prospects are also looking very good indeed.

Last year after the highly encouraging annual results were announced, we played at the emirates and fumbled badly against lowly West Brom, I'm hoping that lesson has been learnt and that this season we come back smiling from the grounds of an hated rival, now that would be the icing on the cake after a torrid start to the season. I hope the boys are all fired up for that.

Those who want Arsenal to butt Wenger better invest in a XBOX 360.

Arsene is our man - Kroenke
Arsene earned the right to call time on his future with Arsenal a long time ago unless things go badly very wrong, people who can't understand can go suck a bottle and that includes primarily the English press. My only worry is if the task the club faces overcomes even him. The owners understand that very well and so do those who are not influenced by outbursts in the press. I am happy the board and owner have clarified things in the press.

As an Arsenal fan, what you can do is pray that the FFP is effective or ultimately we'll need a sugar daddy owner or huge debts as well which I would so hate to see. Anyone who can't see how well Arsene has done with what he's had is either a blind bat or not facing up to reality. I still believe in the Arsenal way even if I have to be content with only a top 4 finish and UCL participation for now.

After their debts were wiped last season, Liverpool has already within a season run up a net debt of 144m and are now 4th on the wage bill with 127m while our wage bill would likely have reduced from 110m  having let go of Nasri and Cesc for which we got a lot of money which still stands us in good stead when we need it.

I third JJCD and Slim, Chamakh might be poor in front of goal but his work rate allows others to play off him, he needs to start putting some balls away sha cos a striker's main biz is to score. I must admit I was frustrated with him during the match but if you watch after all the tension is off, you do see the good work he does. He is still behind RVP though for sure but he brings a different element to the game which Bendtner didn't with his lousy hold up play.
Arsene might still need to find some way to play both at some point, only we don't have much time to experiment.

Jencejyde:
As for Arteta, what we see is a clear case of tested epl experience and boy oh boy, does he do a good job of stabilizing things in the middle of the park, plus his concentration levels are quite good for most part of the 90.
Arteta has always been a big fish in a small pond, his immediate settling in shouldn't be surprising, he also learnt to graft playing for lesser clubs. This dip in fortunes actually augurs well for the new crop, they have to learn how to graft as well cos they can't really take their quality for granted. Players like Cesc, Nasri and Arshavin never grafted as youngsters cos they were always good and played with older heads who did the dirty work. Ramsey was also enroute to joining them but I hope he's learnt his lesson early that you need to earn the right to play. Its amazing Wilshere took to it like duck to water.

I like the look of Per as well, he just looks unflappable at the back, I still believe that Blackburn result was a fluke and that this defence will be very impressive.

@Dipo
Are yu serious VdV is injured? we are actually well placed to get at least a draw from Shyte lane. if they are missing either of VdV or Modric. They've lost some of the players who bring the gra gra element they usually bring like Jenas and Huddlestone is injured as well. We might actually get a win at the lane after a while.
They'll go with pace on the wings in Lennon and Bale I expect so Sagna must rest very well and Gibbs can't afford to be dozy if he is played ahead of Santos.
Christianity EtcHow Many Faith Healers and Miracle worker Will Pass Being Subjected To Scrutiny? by duduspace(op): 1:04pm On Sep 29, 2011

CAN or PFN or whatever they call themselves would be more credible if they subject claims of miracles to scrutiny rather that the mindless euphoria that surrounds these claims at large gatherings that resemble more of music festivals like Glastonbury. Just read this and marvel at the wickedness of these Faith Healers. Anyway, good to see that this one will finally gets her just rewards.

http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/21269-us-court-convicts-nigerian-pastor-for-cheating-dying-cancer-patients.html
A Nigerian-born doctor and ordained pastor, Rev. Christine Daniel, who has been convicted by a US court for peddling snake oil treatment to dying cancer patients, mail and wire fraud, tax evasion and witness tampering, faces up to 150 years imprisonment when her sentence is pronounced in December.

For years, the Nigerian pastor preached the love of Jesus. Practiced medicine for the poor. And promised a sure-cure for terminal cancer patients.

But Rev. Christine Daniel, the founder of Sonrise Medical Clinic in Mission Hills, was a fraud. She was convicted by a federal jury this week of peddling snake oil treatments to dying patients across the nation.

“This is the most egregious fraud case I’ve seen,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph O. Johns, prosecutor in the case. “The defendant used her victims’ religion to blind them to logic, to overcome their common sense. And to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a bogus cancer cure.”

Daniel, 57, of Northridge, was found guilty on Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles of 11 counts of mail and wire fraud, tax evasion and witness tampering.

Her sentence will be pronounced December 5 and she faces up to 150 years in prison and a fine of $5.5 million.

Her trial, which began in March, included the tear-filled testimony of dozens of relatives of terminal patients who had died while taking Daniel’s product.

“In addition to giving them false hope and stealing their money, she also stole their time,” said Johns, chief of the environmental crimes section.

She also failed to report $1.3 million on her corporate tax returns from 2002 to 2004.

Daniel is an ordained Pentecostal minister who got her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

For decades she ran medical clinics for the poor, in the San Fernando Valley and downtown, and worked in hospital emergency rooms.

She was also devoted to regular missions overseas.

“If I can just help somebody - one person,” she told the Daily News in 1995. “I just want to make an impact on one person’s life. Just show them love. Just let them know you care.”

A receptionist at her Sunrise clinic on Tuesday said she was too busy with patients to come to the phone. She did not return a request for comment.

Prosecutors said Daniel had used her status as a minister to create trust within the evangelical Christian community.

At her clinic and via the Trinity Broadcasting Network, Daniel promised cures for illnesses from Alzheimer’s disease to terminal cancer.

Her secret: remedies like “C-Extract” created from herbs gathered around the world, then blended for each individual patient.

But a chemical analysis by prosecutors found such ingredients as beef extract flavoring and sunscreen preservative, none of which could cure disease.

The cost of such nostrums ranged from $4,270 a week to between $120,000 and $150,000 for a six-month treatment, prosecutors said.

“They were encouraged to fly to Mission Hills. Stay in a flea-ridden motel. And spend the last few months of their lives drinking a foul concoction ,  that tasted like sewage water,” Johns said.

Daniel and her employees induced 55 victims to send roughly $1 million to the Sonrise clinic, most of whom died within three to six months after the bogus cure.

One of them was 33-year-old Paula Middlebrooks, a married mother of two from Smiths, Ala.

Diagnosed with metastatic bosom cancer, she contacted the Sunrise clinic after her dentist told her his wife had taken the cure - and would soon come home cancer free.

After visiting the clinic, Daniel told the devout Baptist that chemotherapy wouldn’t help.

The doctor said she’d need her herbal treatment to shrink the tumors and kill her cancer cells.

Family members said they had bake sales, yard sales and sold everything they had to pay up to $100,000 for bogus treatments. Middlebrooks’ sister, Tammie Fleming, even quit her job to work in Chatsworth to be with Paula.

For nearly six months, Middlebrooks drank the herbal treatments daily while joining Daniel for Sunday services.

“It literally looked like mud,” said Fleming, 45, of Raeford, N.C., of Daniel’s herbal brew. “It was horrible. We were told it would work, that my sister would be cancer-free.”

While in church one day, she complained to the physician-minister of intense and enduring pain.

“She said, `The pain is all in your head,”’ Fleming recalled, adding that each patient was told to pay up at the clinic each Monday, or be turned down for further treatments.

In 2002, Daniel pronounced Paula Middlebrooks cancer free at a party held for clinic patients. By then, the cancer had in fact spread from her bosoms to her bones and brain.

“She brainwashed them. She brainwashed us all,” Fleming said. “She sent my sister home cancer free on March 15, 2002. On April 10, Paula passed away.”

Another of her victims, Margaret Antwi, who traveled from Africa, was diagnosed with melanoma in 2003. Her daughter, Christiana Kwakye, was channel surfing one night after spending hours by her mother’s hospital bed when she came across a testimonial about Daniel’s treatment.

Kwakye, 41, of Minneapolis, cobbled together money with her four siblings and paid about $3,500 for a shipment sent from Daniel’s offices. Antwi drank the brown liquid and soon after Kwakye called a number and prayed with a woman on the other line.

“At that stage you do anything,” Kwakye said, trying to explain why they entrusted Daniel. “I should have known better. My mental state wasn’t clear at that time.”

Antwi’s family bought another round of medicine that cost about $5,000 after Daniel bumped them up to a higher concentration that would be more effective. Antwi died a couple of weeks later at age 62. She had been hopeful Daniel’s treatment would work as promised, Kwakye said.

“I struggle with the fact that she (Daniel) wasn’t true,” she said. “Being a doctor, they do no harm. Why would she do that?”

Other patients traveled to California and stayed at local motels while they were being treated, court documents show.

Prosecutors said Daniel even fleeced other clergy. In late 2003, George McKinney, who founded St. Stephen’s Cathedral Church of God in Christ in San Diego, agreed to have his wife, Jean, treated by Daniel. The couple moved into their son’s home in Los Angeles, and Jean McKinney took an herbal mixture three to four times a day for her terminal colon cancer.

Daniel also used a heat machine that was supposed to reduce the tumour, authorities said. The couple paid Daniel more than $100,000. Jean McKinney died in June 2004.
