funmike83:That's the mistake people are are making. You are being unnecesarily sentimental and conducting trial by sentiment, emotion and social media. You should be more concerned about the part of the Nigerian law you can use to nab baba ijesha. Right now and legally speaking, there is no evidence to send that man to jail. There is no evidence of rape. Maybe you can slam a misdemeanour charge for persistently holding her hands and struggling with her. But that's about it. He gets a N20k fine and walks free. 1 Like |

tsmith:You are making very subjective utterances and assumung they are fact and law. You probably need to read the Nigerian law books and not CSI or Law and order to know what constitutes sexual assault in NIGERIA and not in Law and order: SVU. There is nothing in that footage that will send that man to jail in Nigeria. Maybe if this was a scene from Law and order he would probably be in jail. |

Barrywilly:I don't think there's anything in this footage to do anything to baba ijesha. His clothes were on. There was no sexual contact or intimacy. You can't send a man to jail for touching a girls hands and talking to her. I didn't even see the part where he fondled her breasts. They can probably only get him on a misdemeanour charge which probably just carries a fine. Let us remember that it was initially alleged that he raped the girl. I didn't see any evidence of rape in the footage. 15 Likes 1 Share |

mastertek:Well there is no point complaining then. If every nigerian aspires to leave Nigeria so they can enjoy thr easy life abroad and forget about giving back their knowledge and expertise to their country of origin, then they shouldn't complain about the state of Nigeria. Only when we have selfless people that think more about their country of origin than enjoyjng the easy life abroad, only then will Nigeria be ruled by thr educated. Till then, Nigeria will continue enjoying political and administrative servitude to the likes of Buhari, Patami and Gumi. |

Mikehot:Simple, because they never come back! Their exploits are for CNN and BBC. They rarely come back to contribute anything to Nigeria. That's why illiterates and whatnots from the north are ruling. I heard an argument the other day from someone about Nigerians being renowned for their exploits world over and then Nigeria being in a mess. Its almost as if Nigerians believe their academic achievements should automatically make the lives of Nigerians at home better. It doesn't work that way. Even if we have Nigerians leading the best ivy league schools in the world, and they prefer to stay back in America and the UK, Nigeria doesn't benefit anything from them. When these Nigerians abroad start to learn that it is good to give back to their communities with their knowledge and resources, that is when Nigeria will actually benefit from them. As of now, their achievements are personal and of no benefit to anyone in Nigeria. 2 Likes |

sulaak:Well wonderful stats but are you telling me that when the peaceful founders of Boko haram were massacred, it had something to do with the fact that they were illiterate? Or when the Nigerian COAS asked his soldiers to massacre more than 200 civilians in kaduna that blocked his convoy, it had something to do with illiteracy? Or when the endsars protesters were gunned down in Lekki, they were killed for their literacy or illiteracy? Our issues as a nation are not as complex as you are making them out to be. Just imagine a scenario where the Boko haram sect members were allowed to practise their beliefs peacefully in 2010 instead of being killed for no just reason, we would not have an insurgency today that has spread to 4 countries. Just imagine if we had state governments across Nigeria that had solid developmental programs for their states instead of looting all the money for governance and restricting to just their friends and cronies, we would not have massive poverty and unemployment today. I agree with you that illiteracy is a problem but its not the reason for the current state of the country. There are states and counties in America with shocking rates of illiteracy. But people are gainfully employed and there are welfare programs to take care of them such that schooling becomes a luxury and not a necessity. We need to channel the scarce resources we have to helping the generality of the population, not a few people. The neglected and down trodden always find a way of coming back to take what is theirs especially when they have been criminally deprived of it. Social justice and accountability in my opinion are more important than cultural or religious views on education especially in the North. Although it is true that literacy plays a role in determining how people elect or choose their leaders and is therefore a big part of socio economic development, we must also recognise that social justice also plays a key role in ensuring peace and stability by ensuring everyone is treated fairly and equally |

WaffenSS:No i don't get your point. This is not a competition over who kills more peoole. Responsible governments don't base their decision making on that. There is an obama era Act in America that precludes the US givernment from selling arms to countries with human rights issues so those countries don't turn around and use American weapons to kill innocents like the Nigerian security forces love to do. I hope you remember when the convoy of the COAS killed more than 200 people because they blocked the road he was passing. Nobody was prosecuted. This same indiscriminate killings led to the energence of Boko haram whose pioneer members were peace loving sect members that were hunted down and killed by policmen in Borno. Every major insurgency or security issue in Nigeria (including endsars) has its origin in reckless and indiscriminate use of weapons by security forces. The answer is not more weapons for the security forces to kill more people and cause more mayhem. The answer is social justice, equity and elimination of corruption. 1 Like |

Seniorwriter:Goodluck! Plus I'm very sure and going by your logic, it's dangote's fault there is no other working refinery in Nigeria. Again, goodluck! PS Can you kindly explain the fraud in selling crude in naira? The crude oil is here in Nigeria. Doesn't it make sense to sell Nigerian crude to a Nigerian company that'll sell to Nigerians so that the end users (nigerians) are insulated from forex fluctuations? You seem to know everything so I'll just let you be. |

Seniorwriter:Bros calm down and read please. Nigeria currently spends billions, more than half of its revenue, importing petrol. Dangotes refinery when completed has the capacity to supply all our petrol needs. So we won't be importing petrol again. Since there won't be any need to import petrol again, all the billions we were spending on importing before will now be used to do other things. The Nigerian government has agreed to sell crude oil to Dangotes refinery in Naira so that the refinery will transmit the cost of petrol to Nigerians in Naira at market cost. No more landing cost, forex cost etc. Then Dangote refinery also has the capacity to supply the rest of west africa with petrol since other west african countries also import oil. When these coutries pay for thr oil in dollars, the money comes to Nigeria in dollars. Even though it is a private company, they are still earning dollar revenues and that money will be domiciled in Nigeria. PS Its tragic that you can't have a simple conversation with a Nigerian without insults and name calling. Very tragic. Even when they are wrong and clueless about what they're saying they still insult you. Shame! 3 Likes |

Seniorwriter:I really don't understand you. Its a private refinery yes and they Will sell refined oil to everyone including countries in West Africa. Nigeria isn't the only country in the sub region that imports oil. If a private company in Nigeria sells refined oil to other countries in the sub region, the dollar proceeds come to Nigeria. Nigeria has existed so long under government patronage that people like you fail to understand the concept of a modern econony where private enrerprise drives growth and development. Not the government. |
Politics / Re: Governors Seek End To Petrol Subsidy by duni04(m): 10:08am On Apr 30, 2021 |
Dangotes refinery which opens next year is the key to solving this debacle. After the refinery starts production, all the money from the oil subsidy will be freed up and Nigeria will be awash with dollar earnings from selling oil to other countries. That refinery is a game changer for Nigeria. |

WaffenSS:You're not getting the picture I'm painting. The problem is not the bandicts and Boko haram. The problem is (1)there is a large number of people that are idle and doing nothing. Then there is (2) corruption where money meant to cater for these people is stoken by the elite. Then there is (3) social injustice where these same young, down trodden, neglected people are killed by the instruments of the state - police, Army for no reason. All 3 factors gave rise to Boko haram and bandicts in the north. Then you throw in the flow of arms from Libya. The same cycle is playing out in the South East and they are at stage (3) where the army and pilice are killing innocent people in the name of IPOD. Weapons are already flowing into the region for the oppressed people to use in defending themselves. Anybody who is able to look at Nigeria's problems objectively without tribal or ethnic sentiments can see the root cause of these problems. But ordinary Nigerians are always clouded by ethnic and tribal sentiments. That's why its hard for them not to see beyond blaming one tribe or the other for their problems. It's a systemic problem that American weapons cannot solve. |
Politics / Re: Insecurity: Why US May Not Heed Buhari’s Call For Assistance — Falana by duni04(m): 7:45am On Apr 30, 2021 |
WaffenSS:Their decision not to sell weapons to us makes perfect sense because those weapons are the tools the Nigerian elite use to entrench social injustice. Those weapons were used by the police to kill innocent and unarmed boko haram sect members in 2011. That was the origin of the boko haram insurgency. Same weapons were used to kill protesters in Lekki during endsars. The problem is not weapons or islam. The problems are poverty, corruption and social injustice. You can't fight those with weapons. 1 Like |

America will not answer Nigeria because they know our problem is not terrorism or islamic fundamentalism. What is going on in Nigeria is a class war whose root cause is social injustice. Even across the other sahel states like Chad, Cameroun and Niger with a similar population demographic (more than 60% of the population made up of young people), the major architect of the uprisings in these countries is the vast army of poor and unemployed people. There is no region of the world where you have that kind of income disparity that we have in Nigeria and have peace. This is a problem whose only permanent solution is to find jobs for the poor, unemployed and cheated segment of the population. And also eliminate corruption and social injustice. Let us all remember Boko haram is a product of social injustice - started as an unarmed sect of unemployed and indoctrinated young men whose members were shot and killed in Borno by the police for no reason. That motivated them to take up arms. The videos are still on YouTube. Something similar happened in the south last year (#Endsars) where young unemployed and even employed Nigerians shut down the country to protest killings by the police and social injustice, same thing Boko haram did initially. The police and army responded to both protests the same way - by killing unarmed protesters. Boko haram instead of cowering to the police and Army took up arms to fight the killings and social injustices. #Endsars on the other hand trended and made noise for a short time and although some tried to take up arms and fight back, it ultimately vanished, cowering to the police and army. Two different responses to social injustice from #Endsars and Boko haram. Even in America when unarmed black people are killed by the police, riots take place, stores are looted and people are sometimes killed. Social injustice breeds anarchy and emboldens the young, poor and seemingly cheated segment of the population to revolt. Nigeria will continue to spiral out of control as long as people continue to steal money meant to cater for millions of people; as long as the police and Army continue to kill unarmed civilians and young people; as long as we have leaders like Buhari and Tinubu that think the problem is islamic fundamentalism or caused by bandicts. You can't possibly cure an illness you can't even diagnose. A word is enough! 4 Likes |

The same people that chopped and cleaned mouth from Nigeria are coming out to call Nigeria a failed state. The result of the evil they left to fester yesterday is what we're seeing today. When there is social injustice; when the disparity between the rich and the poor is so stark; when you have a Lagos with many forbes billionaires and a Borno with the poorest people on earth, its only a matter of time before the poor people up North find their way down to forcefully get their share of the bazaar. The insecurity we are seeing today is the product of years of social injustice. The poorest people in Nigeria, especially the ones up North have been cheated for too long. It only took the conflict in Libya to provide them with the arms they're using to correct years of social injustice and neglect. The main culprits are the club of Nigerian elite that have kept the money for millions of people and used it for themselves for generations. Buhari is guilty for having no solution to the problem. But the problem itself was caused by peter obi and his fellow club members. They have looted our patrimony and murdered sleep. 1 Like |

IPOD is surgically removing all the symbols of the Nigerian government in the South East. This is a very organized and very well articulated insurgency that is brewing. The Police, Courts, Prisons, Military and other symbols of the Nigerian government are being systematically removed. These guys have calculated that Nigeria is currently at its weakest with an insurgency in the NE, invasion of bandits in the NW, MB, West and kidnappings everywhere else. The Federal government cannot afford to fight a wars on multiple fronts. The yorubas that have been crying for restructuring should take note. If the igbos are able to pull this off the yoruba's will be left to fend for themselves with these bloodthirsty vermin from the North 2 Likes |
