The Federal High Court on Friday said Justice Okon Abang ordered Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s sack because the judge found that he allegedly submitted false tax information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court said the case had nothing to do with forgery of tax documents.

The court’s Chief Registrar, Emmanuel Gakko, said in a statement that there were two different cases against Ikpeazu.

He said one of the cases was filed by Sir Friday Nwosu with Dr. Ikpeazu and Dr. Sampson Uche Ogah as defendants. The case was before Justice Ambrose Allagoa.

In the second suit before Justice Abang, Dr. Ogah was the plaintiff, while Dr. Ikpeazu and Sir Nwosu were the defendants.

The court said the case before Justice Allagoa bothered on alleged forgery or falsification of tax certificate and receipts for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 by Dr. Ikpeazu.

In deciding the case, Justice Allagoa held that “a mere nebulous averment is not enough for the purpose of pleading the crime of forgery.”

According to the judge, “forgery is a criminal offence and must be proved, which the plaintiff failed to do.”

The statement added: “The court further held that by the affidavit of the Abia State Director of Taxes testifying that the documents are genuine, the court held that there was presumption of genuineness of the assessment and the certificate and/or receipts issued to Dr. Ikpeazu.

“The court further held that the consequential reliefs have become unnecessary for the court’s consideration.

“It should be noted that the court did not make any consequential orders with regard to the position of the governor other than the allegation of forgery.”

The Chief Registrar said the case before Justice Abang had a different subject-matter, that Dr. Ikpeazu submitted form CF001 to INEC which were alleged to contain false information.

“The court held that the information in Form CF001 as shown by him (Ikpeazu) in the affidavit accompanied with other documents to INEC are false and has nothing to do with forgery.

“The, court, therefore made consequential orders under the doctrine of ‘lis pendens,’ which disallows any transfer of rights or interest in any subject matter that is being litigated upon during the pendency of litigation in respect of the said subject-matter.

“The court, accordingly, declared Dr. Ogah as the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries and should be issued with Certificate of Return accordingly.”

The Chief Registrar said the clarification became necessary in view of “misrepresentation of facts as published in some electronic and print media and comments by both legal practitioners and laymen on the correct facts of the cases involving the Abia State Governor and the Judgment of Hon. justice O. E. Abang and Hon. Justice A. L. Allagoa.”

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi who decried the high level of maginalisation of Yoruba in the Jonathan led administration said, “We have been subject of brazen marginalization and deliberate attempt to whittle down our historical contributions to the development of Nigeria. Following suit, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of State of Osun joined others in condemning Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, for derailing from the principle of ‘omoluabi” that Yoruba is known for by collecting bribe from a desperate aspirant.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President Candidate of APC, in his short remarks, urged Nigerians to be patient at this trying moment assuring that things would soon change for the better when APC takes over government at the centre.

As a result, in the communique, they demanded for regionalism, diversification of economy, holding free, fair, credible and transparent elections as scheduled to commence on Saturday, March 28, 2015, resistance to any form of unelected government, be it Government of National Unity, Interim National Government or howsoever described, repealing of laws and policies that stifle the creativity of the people, dismantling of all pseudo-security agencies that impede peace, harass and terrorise her citizens in order to enforce pre-determined agenda that are not consistent with the wishes of the region, and removal of all bottlenecks in the way of provision of effective and efficient transportation system, electrical power, and petroleum refining infrastructure.

According to the communique, “That the effectiveness of the Federal Government of Nigeria lies on focusing on the critical issues of governance that are common to all components, like defence, national security, foreign affairs, currency and exchange rate, etc, while all other socio-economic responsibilities, especially that of resource control, devolve to the federating units. Yoruba must pursue their destiny in line with the development priorities and ambitions of her people. The creation of a structural environment for effective devolution of powers to the country’s constituent units as a strategic development is imperative. Yoruba people will not hesitate to take our destiny in our own hands in the event of any attempt to compromise our democratic existence.”

I don’t know about you, but it looks bizarre to me anytime I come across phrases like these on social media: “Igbo man achieves…”; “Igbo student ….”; “Igbo woman became…”; “Igbo man this, Igbo man that”. Suddenly, accomplishments by Nigerians across the globe are being zeroed down to tribe by a section of the country. What could be the reason behind this? To feel superior? To feel good? To show “them” that you are excelling?

Whatever you think it is, reducing the nationality of an individual’s achievement to the lowest decimal possible - one's tribe - to me does not elevate nor strengthen such honors. Rather than strength, it all points to something strange, a feeling of inferiority and fear. I thus see such actions as unconscious acts of perpetuating a self-imposed and unwarranted sense of marginalization – a victim mentality syndrome that only reinforces negative attitudes and isolation.

Negative attitude is poisonous and can negatively impact the way we feel and act. It is therefore extremely important that Ndigbo should switch to a positive frequency in order to reshape our realities and thoughts. That’s why I am here to let you know that it’s time to let go and start with a new thinking.

But first, here’s how to know that you have this victim mentality syndrome as Onye Igbo. You feel like every other tribe has it so easy in Nigeria except you; you always feel like it’s not my fault, they did it to me. You want to be a martyr, so you confront the security forces to be killed; you are addicted to imaginary misery and drama; blaming Buhari for everything improves your state of mind; you never feel responsible for your negative behavior; you only focus on negative events and disappointments, so even when Boko Haram are being decimated and massive corruption exposed, you keep focusing on real and imaginary marginalization; you display self-defeating, almost masochistic behavior – I am miserable therefore, I am. You know yourself now.

For Ohaneze Ndigbo that is meeting tomorrow at Owerri, here is the deal; you should make it clear to Ndigbo that the traits listed above are not an excuse to embrace a victim mentality. Tell Ndigbo that they should not be steering the pirate ship into the same iceberg that sank their father’s ship. After accepting that something shitty happened to them (whatever it is), tell Ndigbo that they need to embrace a new and fearless chapter. So, here are the bold steps to release ourselves from our victim mentality syndrome.

Stop asking why.
You will only end up torturing yourself more with that painful loop of questions without answers. It should have been that simple from day one. There will never be a satisfactory answer or gratifying analysis as to why Nigerian government will not “let you go”. So, stop playing the “poor me” card. Take responsibility. Wise up your life, there is really no way around it. Stop committing acts that will make you a martyr. The world is not paying attention.

Ask courageous questions.
I completely agree that space must be given for the “marginalized” to express themselves. But by clinging to the victim mentality, you get lost in the funk of sadness and self-pity. You fail to take action and exempt yourselves from the risks of failure. You carry an extra baggage. The fact is that surviving and thriving in multiethnic and religions society like Nigeria is not easy, but one need not assume a victim mentality in relation to it. So, ask courageous questions. How can we as a people move forward from here? Can you grab some power at state level of government and start setting example of what live will be like in the land of the rising sun?

Name your prize.
If what it will take to rid yourself of victim mentality is to have an Igbo sounding name as Nigerian President in 2019, start planning for it now by forging alliances with other political forces. If, on the other hand, ‘restructuring’ Nigeria will make you feel ‘rich’, take responsibility by strategizing on how to elect public office holders that will champion that cause from the local to the federal level. That’s how to take responsibility. Not this present display of victim mentality syndrome.

Unfortunately, your pro-Biafran movement is full of unhappy and confused people who keep telling you that the only way to achieve ‘sovereignty’ is by airlifting all your kinsmen to Mars. But what if you start with what you can grab immediately while you wait for the airlifting? You can shoot for political power base in the entire Southeastern Nigeria starting with the “Biggest Price” – The Anambra State Government House come 2017. The election is more than one year away, so you have more than enough time to start planning.

Forgive.
The most important thing you need to do is to forgive. Forgive the Hausas for the atrocities leading to the civil war. Forgive the Yorubas for betraying you during the Biafran civil war. Forgive the Niger Deltans for conniving with the Nigerian government to effectively block the Biafran enclave. After all, we are all over Southwest, North, and South-south working as professionals, doing business and prospering. By not forgiving them, you are bound to them by an emotional link that is stronger than uncooked ponmo (‘kanda’). Do you know the best thing about forgiveness? It does not only release the other person, it also sets you free from agony and unnecessary pain.

Finally, give yourself a break. Take a break from social media and all the junk websites that have kept you on the edge with fake stories of how the whole world (except Mugabe, Putin and Trump) has turned against you.

I know it’s hard getting out of the victim mentality syndrome but, you should be nice to yourself. All it will take to free yourself from the victim mentality syndrome is to remain an Okonkwo. Yes, Okonkwo! That’s who we are as Ndigbo - outgoing fearless, hardworking with reasonable sense of integrity. And that is freedom!

Despite that he was able to have a region created for him away from the influence of those Yoruba chiefs unlike Igbos selfish whose grip over Eastern minorities was so tight that they could not get their COR region despite being more in number than western minorities.

AFRICA AND ZIK" In it you'll see where an Igbo man admitted that Ironsi promulgated both unification and anti-secession decrees with Ojukwu's assistance.

The coup was an Igbo coup not by the composition of those involved but by the manner of execution. That explains the Northern detainees released by Ironsi and Ojukwu.

Awo and Enahoro coup was to be 100% bloodless and not even targetted at any innocent civilian or military officer but at Balewa alone because Balewa himself had earlier on used an executive coup to disorganize their Western Region. Ironsi and Ojukwu in their "wisdom" found it unsafe to release them, but found it safe to start releasing the Igbo boys who planned and executed a bloody coup which took the lives of innocent civilians and completely innocent military officer gentlemen. You see the wisdom of an average Igbo man?

Moreover, from the pattern of killings, ironsi himself knew deep down in him that the North already knew that the successful coup could not have been by Yorubas or Edos as it wiped out the leading lights of Yoruba, North and Edo leaving out the Igbos. So how sensible was he to claim he wanted to show concern about Balewa's and Bello's assassinations by further holding in detention all other tribes who like the North lost personalities through the coup while releasing the Igbos boys who killed that very Balewa and Bello leaving their own brothers? It does not make sense!

The Yoruba Judge who pronounced Awolowo and Enahoro jail terms acted under duress because he was purposely recruited by the governing duo of Zik and Balewa and to work against the interest of the Southwest-future Midwest-Middle Belt interest in order to further cement the Igbo-Hausa-Fulani joint interest which he did perfectly.

For the following reasons Enahoro and Awolowo could not be called traitors for ditching Igbos and going to Gowon's side when the war came as you allege:
1. Enahoro and Awolowo had always preferred to work with the Christian Middle Belt hence UMBC (United Middle Belt Congress) and AG were allies in the 1959 and 1964 elections. On the other hand Zik and Igbos had always preferred to work with the Muslim core north hence Zik's NCNC first aligned with NEPU (Northern Elements Progressive Union) and then later went into full alliance with the larger Hausa-fulani and Islamist NPC (Northern Peoples Congress).
When the Igbo-Islamist North alliance crumbled and bomeranged on Igbos, Ojukwu and Igbos now hypocrically wanted the support of the Awo and Enahoro ( part of the AG-UMBC alliance) which the Igbo-Islamist Core North alliance had been trying to kill. But Awo and Enahoro, as a matter of principles and consistency chose to remain main with Gowon representing the Middle-Belt which they had always aligned with. So how did that make them traitors like Igbos who abandoned their own Igbo-Islamist North alliance to seek the support of the South-Middle Belt alliance?
2. Awolowo and Enahoro were released by Gowon. How sensible and responsible would it have been for Enahoro and Awo to, in a war situation, choose to align with the Igbos who jailed them to fight against Gowon who released them from jail? No rational person does that. Only Igbos may do so and that explains why they were expecting Awo and Enahoro to do it.
The arguement that Ojukwu set Awo free is watery because even though Ojukwu was in control of the Eastern Region the relationship between him and Gowon had not deteriorated to the level of mutual antagonism then owing the fact that Aburi Accord which later strained alienated them had not even been dreamt of as at when Awo and Enahoro were released. So Ojukwu was still bargaining with the North over which officer should replace ironsi and thus was still under Gowon's authority to enforce the order of release of Awo. Moreover, the same order which released Awo also released Enahoro. Thank God Enahoro was not in an Eastern prison or else you Igbos would have been including him today among those whom you falsely claim Ojukwu released.


There is nothing pathetic in Awo and Enahoro allegedly working against Aburi accord based on the injustice meted to them by Ojukwu and Ironsi. After all you people defend Zik's decision to align his NCNC with Ahmadu Bello's NPC to spite Awolowo for his alleged "injustice" of instigating the alleged but false "cross-carpeting" that deprived Zik of Western Region's premiership. Igbos and double standards.

If Zik's "prophesy" of igbo domination was sincerely divinely designed and thus the truth, then why did Zik and Igbos not just allow that Igbo god itself bring about its actualization but started trying to forcefully do it themselves by aligning with the North against the rest of the South and by executing an openly tribal coup? And why was that Igbo god watching Zik when he decided to take the path of aligning with the Muslim core North despite knowing fully well that such a path was the way to doom for Igbos and would prevent the fulfilment of that prophesy while bringing about the direct opposite of Igbo massacre by Hausa-Fulanis and Igbo relegation to the background? And if that Zik's prophesy were true then how come Igbos are now asking for a pull away from Nigeria which that god destined them to rule and dominate?

If it is true that they (south east) really want to leave nigeria, then why are their representatives in national assembly not pushing for a referendum? Igbos have had their fair share in govt, but they are always more interested in making as much money from govt than actually promoting the so called "biafra".

Why can't you guys just understand that the region is tired of feeding the entire country at the cost of their own environmental degradation. The militants have presented the case of the region before the federal government, why has the government chosen to go after the Militants, ignoring the problem. And before you preach the gospel of environmental impact of the NDA bombings, I want to put it to you that the effect of their bombings is infinitesimal compared to what Shell, chevron and nnpc spills have done to us.

It is a bullheaded endeavor to ascribe an iota of self-sufficient to a region which had acted in full flare that it could not survive without the conjugation of southwestern and northern regions of Nigeria. I guess this so-called Igbo group must have been against the agitation of Biafra and frowned at the instance of arming Igbo youths with assault rifles. These pictures are reminiscent of 1966 massacre of easterners in northern region of Nigeria in 1966.

The question should be what did people of Uzo Uwanni do to the Fulani herdsmen to warrant such attack by 500 armed men? Are the Fulani herdsmen greater in number than the cattle that are being herded? Mind you that 500 is battalion strength in any standard army. Ndiigbo should look beyond the so-called Fulani herdsmen.
