Politics › Re: Dave Umahi Endorses Buhari For Second Term In 2019 by dustydee: 7:41am On Nov 10, 2017
stephanie11:
@POLITICSNGR

Ebonyi state governor and member of Opposition peoples democratic party, PDP, Dave Umahi has endorsed president Muhammadu Buhari for second term.

Umahi said this on Thursday while addressing state house correspondents after a meeting with Buhari.

"Any first-term governor would want to go for a second term. And if what you wish yourself, you should be honest enough to wish another person the same.

Since Mr President is doing his first term and I am doing my first term, it’s my wish to re-contest and I will as well wish the president the same to re-contest."

The governor also stated that Ebonyi residents are fully prepared to receive president Buhari who will be commissioning some projects in the state. He said;

"There are quite a lot of projects that we have executed within these past two and the half years. We have three numbers of twin flyovers that are built across the African Tran Sahara Road running from Enugu to Cameroon passing through Ebonyi state, so we have to build three twin flyovers to decongest traffic on that road, each of the twin flyovers is 700-metre length.
Useless journalism. You forgot to include where he "endorsed" Buhari for 2nd term. Is "I will as well wish the president the same to re-contest" an endorsement?

What do you mean by not announced? I read it shortly after the statement issued by the presidency on the sack of the former DG. It was announced.

Quietly? but the announcement was made soon after the sack of the former DG. I guess people were carried away by the news of the sack.

You are already limiting yourself bro. Don't do this to yourself. At 38 years of age, i assume you have some work experience that would be valuable to any mba class. I have a friend with an mba from said business school of the uni of oxford, he got into that school in his mid 30s. He got straight into AFDB before graduation. He would have still been stuck in his first bank job if he limited himself with pessimistic thoughts of non admission due to age.

The only challenge I see would be getting admissions due to competition from all over the world. These are mba programs that would 1000's of applications for maybe 50 seats.
Hi salford1, I am not limiting myself. I know someoe currently in said who is about my age. I was actually looking at it from the benefit perspective given that I have other things to take care of. Also considering whether an EMBA will be a better option. But thank you for your contribution.

Thanks for your comments. It’s never too late to do anything in life. You have to weigh the cost vs. the benefits of an MBA. What’s your end goal? There are Executive MBA programs out there that might work for you. The following schools have very reputable Exec MBA programs: Cornell, NYU, University of Pennsylvania etc. Someone commented about you getting a student visa, which the Executive MBA can help you with. An Executive MBA program is for older and more experienced applicants.

Good luck!!!!
Thank you.

No one cares about your age in developed countries. Your age wont stop you from getting admissions or jobs.
For some MBA programs, age can be a disadvantage even though they don't mention it.

LaNiger:
As a Nigerian in America, I've been reading all the respective comments on this thread and it's been quite entertaining. I'll like to add the following comments to the thread. Not every Nigerian is hustling in America; if you come here and go to school, you are bound to succeed. Education accelerates your earning potential. The key difference between Nigeria and the USA is how we treat one another and how are respective employers treat us. Decency is word, that is absent from our dictionary in Nigeria. Companies treat their employees with disdain and employees treat their employers with disdain. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect in America, but there is a strong ethical culture (it does not work all the time, it works very well at least 90% ~ 95%) of the time.

I was recruited from business school by a Fortune 100 company, before graduating (6 months before). As part of the interview process I met with the CEO/Chairman of that company for an hour, this is a company with over $40 billion dollars in annual revenue. I was accepted to the company's executive training program, which until last year I was the only black man in that program. I am one of the Senior executives in one of our $1 billion divisions and the only black man and most senior minority. I don't come from a wealthy family in Nigeria, to the contrary I was able to take advantage of the opportunities before me.

Today I manage a team of people with MBA's from some of the best business schools in the world. This past month, I promoted a young man on my team who is barely 27. Five years out of the University he is easily making over $100K per annum and this does not include his annual bonus. Can this happen in Nigeria? He came to me earlier this year and said, Sir I would like to pursue my MBA and it costs $80K, can the company sponsor me? I said absolutely, I will pay for your MBA from my departments budget, because I know that we are investing in him. This is the way great companies in America operate. I recently hired an entry level analyst, I tried very hard to look for a minority to hire, but did not get any resumes. The entry level job, fresh out of the university is $60K per annum, no Nigerian makes this straight out of the university.

The arguments we are having here don't make any sense, because we are not comparing apples to apples. Nigeria has potential, but it not yet the USA. To end, let's not talk about salaries, let's talk about bonuses where people are paid annual bonuses exceeding $200K per annum in addition to their salaries. We need to elevate our discuss and say how can our country Nigeria do better. This is my personal experience and I hope it encourages someone out there.
Thanks for sharing your story. I am considering doing an MBA but at 38, do you think I am at a disadvantage? I am considering Oxford and Cambridge. Thank you.

@ maternal, you don't need a credit card to have a good credit score in the UK. The US/Canada system is quite different from the UK in terms of the significance of having a credit card. There are other ways of building credit. !st get on the electoral register and then you can get a phone or sim contract. My credit score has always been very good even though I didn't have a credit card. I only just got one a few months back mainly to have protection when shopping online.

The 2017 Mazda Vision Concept represents Mazda’s design vision for next-generation models; a more matured expression applies a Japanese aesthetic to achieve more elegant and premium styling. The exterior features a “one motion” form that exudes a sense of speed and the interior combines three-dimensional depth with a strong longitudinal axis to create a relaxed space that maintains a sense of speed.

It was unveiled at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show in Japan and the design will be used in upcoming models.. We used to love Mazda cars in Nigeria but something went wrong. Well, can this new design make Nigerians fall in love with Mazda again?

See more photos below and tell us what you feel about the ride. For me, that front fascia is everything.

Is this a sedan or coupe? What is the difference between the two? Thanks.
Politics › Re: Boko Haram Still Controls 3 LGAs In Nigeria - UN by dustydee: 2:19pm On Oct 25, 2017
“Insecurity, presence of mines, improvised explosive devices, and unexploded ordinances had continued to slow down the response of humanitarian agencies in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states” said OCHA’s monthly report for September 2017, titled, “North-East Nigeria: Humanitarian Situation Update”.
“Most roads to the south, south-west and east remain unusable due to security concerns and most humanitarian personnel movement is done through air assets. Cargo, however, is being transported via road with armed escorts as a last resort.”
Not surprising in a war zone or in post war situations.
Why do the media delight in twisting stories to favour their perception?

4. President Muhammadu Buhari: The bucks stops at his table! He can't claim ignorance of Maina return because such senior level appointment/reappointment cannot take effect without his authorised approval/signature upon the recommendations of HOSF and Federal Civil Service Commission. His recent claim of ignorance is simply face-saving to get someone take the fall.
I don't see how the President comes into this. I may be wrong, but I don't think the president needs to be aware of any appointment at director level or be involved in disciplinary procedures at that level. He will have nothing else to do if that is part of his job.

Here is a picture analyses of the State house medical center budget from 2013 to 2017 as released by BudgIT.

This is coming as the wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, called for a probe into how the budget for the State House Medical Centre is being utilised.

The management of the hospital had said it would seek the commercialisation of the centre to boost its revenue.

It will be helpful if we know how much was spent in that period. A budget does not automatically translate to expenditure.
