We see beautification of the face. It is our face, abi.

Suit yourself.
The same way you see beauty in rusted brown roofs.
That explains a lot.

eeeeeee: Outdated Yoruba newspaper quoting stale statistics
Their source is old,i read it.

The proportion of people living in poverty in the
South East region rose from 13 percent in
1980 to 53 percent in 1996, before falling back to 27 percent in 2004. In the South West,
the poverty rate was 43 percent in 2004, up from 13.4 percent in 1980.

The South East’s infant and child mortality rates, at 66 and 103, respectively, are the lowest
of Nigeria’s six regions.

9
Not surprisingly, the region also exhibits the highest immunization
coverage among children ages 12 to 23 months
(45 percent fully vaccinated), the lowest
percentage of children under age five who are stunted (20 percent), and, among women
giving birth, the highest percentage who receive antenatal care from a health professional
(96 percent)
, two or more doses of tetanus toxoid (77 percent), and assistance by a health
professional during the birth (88 percent).

Poverty rate is 43% in SW

Thanks for providing the recent stats.
Almost half of SWesterners live in abject poverty.

Imagine what happens if Lagos which has Igbo as the predominantly rich percentage is removed, then poverty rate will be about 80%.

ketoprofen: Do u know how many upscale restaurants that beat KFC in Enugu?
KFC is in abakiliki road, Enugu.
Since 2007, good restaurants have been on increments in the east such that in GRA, independence layout and esp new heaven, up scale restaurants compete with the number of residential houses.
Even inside the streets of newlayout, Enugu have lots of beta modern Igbo owned restaurants not all these iya eggheaders that full Ibadan.
see how u dey rejoice over KFC.smh
Lol
The thing tire me.
Anytime one brings up Ibadan slum, they start to scream KFC, like they have not seen food before.
PoliticsRe: The Population Density Of Igbo Land by eaglechild: 10:22pm On Dec 27, 2013
eggheaders: Lols at no money in Ibadan why igbos run to the place to make a living. KFC has an outlet in Ibadan no single one in the whole of alaigbo ditto shop rite has two outlet non in your big for nothing Onitsha. Reason why low standard house will forever remain in Ibadan is because even poor peeps can afford to buy land but can't develop standard buildings unlike alaigbo where the only few available land is exclusively for the rich.
Gosh, these neocolonial slaves have come up with this KFC ish again.

There are indigenous franchises that can march KFC all over the SE, besides KFC is in Enugu.

I find it embarrassing that someone in the 21ct century is using KFC as a development index.
Gosh, what a display of dumbness.

superstar1: It is big enough to have the old and the new.

We don't have to demolish our heritage, to build a house we will resell the decking to another person. For the next millennium, IB has the land to accommodate development.

Get that into red mud tinted skull.
So your heritage is broken down houses covered with leaking rusted roofs.

I think you should endeavor to obliterate such heritage.

hercules07: There is a need to do more in our SW states, infrastructure is good, we also need the people to have money in their pockets, inasmuch as one east is being tribalistic, we also need to look at the message and do something about the ills that plague our region.
Thank goodness there are still some sensible SWesterners on this forum.

The BROWNERY I've seen from the Ibadan pics is sickening.

Can't the governor mandate them to pull it down angry
I think that will be a breach of human rights.

It beats me however to see such an expanse of "organised" poverty despite allegedly high IGR.

That is a beauty that can never be replicated in SE except red mud soil and gully erosion.

That is enduring housing technology of ages. Definitely y1bos never had houses apart from palm fronds hut and on top of trees grin grin grin
Leonardo da Vinci will give you a thunderous slap from the afterlife if you dare compare Ibadan rusted broken down roofs with Mona Lisa again.

Be warned.

I actually looked on google scholar to read about this phenomenon and found out that it actually has nothing to do with urbanization. Igboland has been densely populated even before urbanization.even the rural areas were densely populated. The articles I read did not view it in a positive light. It mostly made mention of land erosion, fights over land allocation due to scarcity, migration of igbo people to other parts of Nigeria in search of jobs etc. it seems like a problem. not a good thing.

Another article I read on urbanization actually contrasted igboland with yorubaland and asked the question: even though igboland is twice as densely populated, why didn't they develop cities like the yorubas? LOL This was an article written in 1955. and goes to show that igboland is not densely populated because of urbanization. I mean, the rural areas wouldn't be as dense if that were the case.
So why is it densely populated then?
Lol!
You sound disjointed and pointless.

With your phantom article.

You simply cannot follow a simple pattern because it brings Igbos to good light, and yes most towns in Anambra and IMO are urbanised relative to the other states.

It takes the ability to win your environment to support such a population in a given area.

If not it will be just wasteland.

superstar1: What a beautiful sight of ancient houses with same height and same colour of roof. This beauty can only be seen in SW. No wonder oyinbos come all the way to watch this beautiful sight. Another place you can see ancient beautiful houses are Kano and Zaria, north of Nigeria .

God bless our forefathers and their enduring authentic african housing technology that can rival oyinbos housing technology for ages.

For your info, we call it "a view of brown canopy roof"

Where is the raffia leaves hut of some people? grin grin grin
I hope you are being sarcastic when you say rusted broken down roofs are beautiful.
PoliticsRe: PARASITES: 35 States Can’t Pay Salaries Without Federal funds by eaglechild: 8:20pm On Dec 27, 2013
I don't get all the noise about IGR.

The SE has the lowest poverty rate.
The north has the highest, followed by the SW, so where is all the ghost IGR going?

Please beg your government to use their ghost IGR to empower your poor populace.

PoliticsRe: JB To Own 2nd Niger Bridge (picture) by eaglechild: 7:50pm On Dec 27, 2013
I think it is a good development, so far the bridge will be maintained adequately.

I will even subscribe to the "privatisation" of other major roads in the country, because the private firms can be held directly responsible for their maintenance which should be easy since revenue will be generated from tolling.

Major problem is to get reputable firms.
Then again most regions aside Lagos and the south east and perhaps South south are too poor to pay the tolls.

Arial.bold:
maybe it's due to urbanization?

wow. the entire igboland is the size of Oyo state.
Back to the topic.
That is what I find intriguing.

Not surprisingly so much human resource comes from that small area.

What i see is a global pattern, mirrored in Japan, UK, France, etc, that have conquered continents and subcontinents.
Population density is usually the outcome of organised societies who have been able to overcome their environment and manage their resources to achieve growth.
