Hi everyone, I bought Firstbank shares worth a little bit over 500k at NGN33/unit when it went public in 2007 with the aim of leaving it long term, I really don't know much about stocks just that the fund was idle at that time, hence the motive to invest in shares. Most times I even forget I've got some shares somewhere. I just checked on NSE and FBN shares is 11.30 If I'm right? Does that mean I'm at loss? What are my chances of making profit in the long term considering the fact that I bought the shares 7 years ago.

If you are a dormant investor as you stated somewhere, I will advise you leave your shares. That is if you have no need for the money at present.
Also, if you have some idle cash now, it won't be a bad idea if you buy more shares of FBHN. In the long run, you will benefit much more.

For those saying retailers won't comply, I smh. If Nigerians boycott retailers and go to deport with a pool of money from different individuals, the retailers will be forced to sell.
With a million naira you can be able to buy a thousand bags directly from Dangote or BUA.

The irony of life. A tenant would find it difficult or claim he has no money to settle his rent but would have money when it come to consulting a legal expert. Then we imagine which is cheaper and necessary?

It is simply irresponsibility that will make someone not to make the paying of his or her rent a top priority.
This is my dad's style. He pays his house rent before even considering paying our school fees. When he lost his job at a point, the land lord was very considerate and did not border us over a period of two years after we overcame the ordeal and eventually ended up collecting just half of the whole amount and extremely commended my dad to be a very responsible man.

Your mum need an agent. A good one. I had a similar problem sometimes ago. All four of my tenants conspired not to pay for two years after the initial payment when they moved in.+ that they were dirty and vandals. When it became obvious I can't get them to pay or move out, I unfortunately had to go through the stress of contacting a lawyer who served them a court summon. The lawyer used his experience to fast track the process,

Incase of this kind of conspiracy next time, use divide and rule method.
I was once faced with this type of situation, last year. What I did was to serve quit notice to just one tenant whom I know is the weakest in the conspiracy and left the others. (one of them being a Lawyer).
When the man I served quit notice found out that it was only him, he had no option but to pay up his rent. And by paying up, others were left with no choice as well. Take on this type of fight, one man at a time and start with the most vunerable.

Come to think of it would you not also be paying for the services of the lawyers you'll be engaging? What about the man-hours you'll have to loose yourself? You need to also jam a very good Landlord who upon discerning your antics would either have you framed up by corrupt law enforcement chaps or outrightly killed by hired street urchins.

I am amused by his boasts. If he were to be my tenant, I wonder how things will play out when he defaults on payment. One is that, I hardly give anyone more than three months grace. After that, the whole talk will be done in writing through my lawyer.

Bro, ask any lawyer. Once you FREELY sign the contract document, it is binding on you irrespective of what the law says. Moreover you will sign the Contract and your surety will also sign, in the presence of a witness.
The will first ask if there was Contract signed and if it was freely signed.
I don't need to resort to self help when I have a binding and duely signed contract.
If I may add, I have had a lawyer, a FRSC lady, a politician, a teacher, a local government worker as my tenants at one point or another.
I hardly take in illiterates or just anyone. I recently returned a prospective tenants money, because I was of the view that if I take him in, we will clash in future.

Depends on the contact you sign. If its my property, you have a month notice in writing, after that we are heading to court. A month is my contract or agreement, irrespective if you pay yearly.
The Contract you sign, superceed all other laws. Because you signed freely and not under duress. At most you will be staying for 6 months to a year. :
