Aigbofa: I will call him the father of mediocrity in Nigeria.
I thought Ola and some others said that the "Father" of anything does not exist.
When Igbos start claiming that Ironsi is the Father of Something now (as you put it, "mediocrity"wink you will people will start dragging that one again.
Osu abughi anu elu, obughi anu ala (the bat does not claim to belong to the air or land).
Abeg I tire today. Achebe don die and Soyinka will not remain on earth forever, but both have made their Marks. So therefore make I go sleep and regain my strenght so that when am old, others will be arguing over my achievement of non -achievement.

bappahman: think they have similar track record
I said FORGET TRACK RECORD
FORGET POLITICAL HISTORY
The man who can whip up the biggest SENTIMENT from the "Gullible" Nigerian electorates is likely going to win the election.
For now May 2013, that man is AMAECHI. People will see him as the Underdog.

bappahman: pls who will u vote??...sentiment aside
Sentiment will always play a role in 2015 election (abi no be Nigerians). For now if GEJ maintains the attack on Amaechi, the later will win. Simply because Amaechi will be seen as the UNDERDOG and NIGERIANS will always have sentiments for the Underdog. Forget track record, forget his political history, the man who can whip up enough Emotion in Nigeria will most likely win.

Politics › Re: God "Approves" Those That Rig And Suceed - Gov. Jang by eagleeye2: 7:58pm On May 26, 2013
geekinthelead: By Andrew Ajijah

The governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has described his “victory” over Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, whom he claims to have defeated to become the new “chairman” of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, as the will of God.

Mr. Jang, was speaking in Jos, Sunday, at a special interdenominational church service held at Faith-way Chapel Church and organized by the Plateau State government as part of the activities marking the forthcoming 14th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria.

His remarks came two days after a controversial governors’ forum election in which Mr. Amaechi was declared winner after clinching 19 votes to defeat Mr. Jang who got 16. The result of the election however portrayed Mr. Jang as a usurper to the NGF chairman position.

Governors who supported Mr. Jang rejected the outcome of the elections, claiming it was rigged.

On Saturday, Mr. Jang convened a meeting of the protesting governors and presided as chairman.

“I can assure you that my emergence as the chairman Nigerian Governors’ Forum was the will of God because I went to Abuja for the NGF election not with the intention to contest but northern governors and the PDP governors’ forum endorsed my candidature. When (Ibrahim) Shema of Kastina stepped down, both forums insisted I should contest; I contested and won. So, it’s the will of God.”

He said he had never wanted to be chairman of the NGF.

Mr. Jang told the church that the allegation that a faction of the NGF rigged the elections in his favour was not true. “God is a democrat, does not support rigging but if you rig and succeed, that means God approves of it.” Mr. Jang called on Nigerians to pray for their leaders to enable the present administration at all levels succeed.

He said the current controversies being faced by government at the moment is a foreshadow of what is likely to happen at the 2015 general elections.
“I believe that God has anointed who will be President of Nigeria in 2015 but only him knows who it is,” he stated.

He also said democratic governance was the best form of government that takes care of every sector, pointing out that even the military enjoys more during democracy.

“The military enjoys better during democracy. I’m a living example because I was opportune to serve as governor during the military era and now again as a civilian; so, to my mind, the military should not carry guns to force out democratic governance again,” he said.

During the church service, prayers were offered for the restoration of permanent peace in the country and stability of good governance in Nigeria and the entire African continent.
God will surely Judge. It is not in our place as humans to Judge you.

I said give me a list of African Authors receiving the same praises as "Father of Modern African Litrature" with Achebe. Literature happened to be a Major for me while in the University, so when it comes to African Literature I don't engage in blind arguement.
Please if you can not provide names of other African authors, Poets, dramatists, novelists who are refered to as "Father of Modern African Literature" I will advice you this time to leave the thread.

djon78: I have a simple question, it was reported Amechi won, but new report say that 18 governors supporting jang and 18 is half of 36, meaning a stalmate occured. Can someone clarify this scenario.
In a secret ballot type of election, I CAN OPENLY SIDE WITH YOU, but secretly I will vote for the person I think is a better contestant. After the voting I will still tell you that I voted for you, so that you will not see me as a Judas.
Most of those that attended the Jang NGF meeting are merely playing "politics of azz licking" for GEJ.

Politics › Re: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by eagleeye2: 7:27pm On May 25, 2013
Ola Johnson: You're beginning to see what I'm saying. WS did not graduate with Third Class and his class of degree, which most of you doubt, can't be kept secret. He is not the owner of UI. One thing I'm sure of is that in his days people didn't read courses like we do today. They read subjects. WS read English, History and Greek; CA read English, History and Religion and Elechi Amadi read Maths and Physics.
I gave an example with the Radio Station he held up (WS neither confirmed nor denied that he was the guy that held up that radio staion till date. But the Popular belief is that it was WS that held up the radio station).
In this case of controversy about his class of degree from UI, till date WS has neither debunked nor confirmed that he had 3rd Class degree. But his Second Class upper from LEEDS university is well known to those who are interested in knowing more about Kongi. I have already pointed out that he was seen as a radical by University authorities at UI and that may be the reason why they awarded 3rd class to him. I BELIEVE THAT WS IS MORE INTELLIGENT THAN SO MANY 1st CLASS HOLDERS.
Anyway I will gain nothing by spreading falsehood about his class of degree. So whether 1st class or 3rd class I still admire the man WS a great deal. I have read so many of his work as a student and even when I have left school and I maintain that there are not many intelligent Poets like WS. His work is meant for those who really appreciate Satire at its best.
I don't wish to argue more on this class of degree of a thing. WS deserves much more than that.
Politics › Re: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by eagleeye2:
Ola Johnson: You exactly what you just said. I've done my research. Read my comment from where you took this from. You just go about spreading falsity.
Ola,
Just like the Radio Station scenerio painted above, many people will keep debating whether WS really had a 3rd class or not.
WS himself will neither confirm nor deny it, but every one knows that he graduated with a Second Class Upper degree froom LEEDs University. But when it comes to his class of Degree in Unversity College Ibadan it is shrouded in Secrecy and controversy.
3rd Class or not, does not diminsh the respect I have for WS.
Politics › Re: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by eagleeye2: 5:26pm On May 25, 2013
Ola Johnson: I'm not arguing on behalf of WS. He is against it. He never graduated with a 3rd class.
My friend I don't care what else you are arguing about. Wole Soyinka graduated with a Third Class(3rd class). Go and make your research about WS and stop arguing blindly and making a fo,ol of yourself.
Politics › Re: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by eagleeye2: 2:15pm On May 25, 2013
Ola Johnson: He never graduated with 3rd class, and even if he did, to avoid any unnecessary arguement, he is far better than 1st class graduates of today.
Ola,
I wouldn't want to join issues with you. But if you must argue on behalf of WS try as much as possible to know certain facts about his life.
Wole Soyinka graduated with a 3rd Class from UI, not because he was not intelligent but because the authorities of UI in his days were against his radical ideas. His works and life have proven that he was far more intelligent than most 1st class.
Again, WS was among the pioneer members of PC. Their ideologies may have been different from what obtains now. But please don't insult peoples intelligence by saying that PC is not a cult group. Have you forgotten that it was from PC that other cult groups broke away from.
Moreover, WS was once "alleged" to have held up a radio station. An allegation he has NEVER DENIED NOR CONFIRMED ALL THESE YEARS, only saying that his defence is that the man who held up the radio station wore a mask.
Make no mistake about it, I ADMIRE WS a great deal and his work like someone already pointed out in this thread is for "Great Thinkers". As a graduate of English Language I will always hold WS work in awe and respect. TELEPHONE CONVERSATION is one work of WS that endeared me to him.
But Achebe wrote for all and that may be responsible for his work THINGS FALL APART being translated into so many languages and selling far more than all other African Writers.
