Politics › Re: PDP Governors Reject Amaechi's Election by eagleeye2: 8:49am On May 25, 2013
KnowAll: if the so called Nigerian elites and leaders, the "cream-dela-cream" of our society can rig a simple election involving 36 individuals then we have some serious issues in that country undecided , how then can we ever conduct a free and fair elections involving millions of people? huh
Those condemning this post need a lesson in comprehension. The post is asking "if 36 individuals who claim to be leaders in a country of millions cannot conduct a simple exercise such as electing a leader "first among equals" among themselves, how then can they guarantee the masses that they will be able to do justice to the millions that will be voting in 2015?"
And some people are talking trash about the poster, someone even called it sarcasm.....SMH.
No wonder it is easy to confuse the masses with some Ambigous statement during election period.

UNIVERSITY OF IGBERE TO START ADMISSION IN JUNE 2015
Former Governor of Abia State Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu today announced that the newly built University of Igbere shall start admission in the summer of 2015. Kalu annouced the cheering news during a visit to the institution by the US engineers who are in Igbere for the engineering sketch of Kalu's multi billion dollar STEEL MILL in Igbere. Kalu expressed deep pain and disappointment with the government saying "it pains me so much when I want to help society and somebody is somewhere frustrating my effort for selfish political reasons. This institution has been completed over three years ago, but the people in government have since refused to approve our certificate of occupancy. We thought we could have started this year with 150 students but they saboutaged it. But whatever they do, I get solace in the fact that I know it's a matter of time. Their road blocks have expiry date. On may 29th 2015 they will leave the government house and on 1st June, our C of O will be signed and University of Igbere will start admission." In his reaction, the senator representing Ebonyi south, Senator Owen described the govrnment's action as a rape and a big shame given the inadequacy in our educational system. "How can a country where tens of thousands of qualified Jambites can not gain admission into universities be frustrating this kind of noble indipendent initiatives? How many of the so called state Universities have structures that can be compared to the structures Already provided in this institution?" He queried. On his part, Mr. Sam Amstadam, one of the engineers commended Dr. Kalu for his numerous people oriented initiatives and urged him never to relent.

My father witnessed the killing of his brothers(its not a conclusion, its the truth), they even thought he was dead too, a soldier helped him escape afterwards. He's still alive and he can be interviewed.. Email is: yhincasaac@yahoo.com
I know it sounds somehow, but you made us believe that he had already escaped before the killing of his brothers......
Okay, if he witnesses the killings of his brothers, did he also witness the massacre of those women, children and tenegers you mentioned earlier that were killed because a Biafran Army officer got angry and went on a killing spree?
My brother, I am truely interested in getting some answers (after all I love history).
He told me that they were more than 600 captives there, mostly women and children of other tribes. They were in the place for more than five days without food, then one night he said, the head of the base must have received a bad news or something, he was very angry and he ordered that they kill them all and just like that they shot everyone(mostly teenagers, children and women).
Chai, I really wish to meet with your dad. Did you forget that your Dad has already escaped death out of sheer LUCK? How then did he know what happened after he has already escaped?

Chinua, it was just early this year before your death was announced to the world that I had another opportunity to read and analyse your work A MAN OF THE PEOPLE. As I was analysing the work I was wondering if per chance you had the gift of prophesy.
Some people thought you prophesied just the happenings of 1966, but no Nwa Anichebe you already saw what the country was going to turn into post 1966. You prophesied how easy it would be to turn Honest men, who once spoke for the community, to greedy and corrupt politicians who will care less if the people live or perish. The likes of Chief Nanga and the educated Odili has gathered roots in Nigeria.
Honest men who join politics in other to fight the rot in the system has now become the very people who entrench corruption in the system. Politics has now turned to every man for himself, and God for us all. Accusing fingers are pointed at all corners and our leaders ask the masses TO PRAY FOR GOD TO INTERVENE.
CHINALUMOGU, you saw it all but like the prophet who has no honor in his homeland our people, our leaders carry on as if GOD will come down from heaven to cleans the system they have corrupted with their greed.
Adieu Chinua. Adieu Nwa Anichebe. Ga nke oma.

What you said made a whole lot of sense. It just baffles me how some of these nairaland prefects jump run around frm thread to thread sowing seeds of hatred and tribalism even when it is uncalled for. Politics › Re: Pay Your Last Respect To Achebe by eagleeye2(op): 10:48pm On May 22, 2013
Chinua Achebe, your work THINGS FALL APART is among the first literary works that opened my young mind to the acts of JUSTICE and INJUSTICE; WICKEDNESS and FAIRNESS; BRAVERY and COWARDICE.
It was after reading THINGS FALL APART that I started understanding that in this World, what other people think of you is of little importance compared to what you think of yourself and what God has Destined for You.
Okonkwo wanted so much to please people, he wanted so much to be called a "brave" man that he forgot his sense of Justice and Fairness.
In his quest to be known for Bravery alone (unlike his father who was seen as a coward) he killed a boy who calls him PAPA.
CHINALUMOGU, that act of REAL COWARDICE and Wickedness helped to shape the way I think, even as an adult.
Adiue Nwannem. Adiue Chinua. La na ndokwa.

I thank God for NL. I had nothing doing in the office today, so I decided to indulge myself by opening this thread. I wasn't disappointed at all.
Tribalism was trending, this time it wasn't about Ojukwu or Nigeria-Biafra war (In Flow's voice, "Or so I thot"wink. It was about Wole Soyinka, Nigeria's only Nobel prize winner and Chinua Achebe the widely recognised and acclaimed "Father of Modern African Literature".
Some have argued Jealousy, and others said it was not Jealousy but Fact as there was nothing like "father of Modern African Literature".
What is my view?
I think that the same way WS pointed out that "Achebe should not have written his last book" Is the same he should have refrained from saying anything "controversial" about Achebe, since Achebe is no longer here with us to defend himself.
I for one I'm a student of Literature and have read most of the two writers' work and as a Nigerian, I am proud of both men.
Soyinka's "TELEPHONE CONVERSATION" still remains one of my best poems.
May the Great Literary Icon, Chinua Achebe continue to Rest In Peace. Amen.
Politics › Re: Buhari Asks Jonathan To Resign Over Insecurity by eagleeye2: 12:10pm On May 22, 2013
Ordinarily I don't like GEJ's style of leadership.. But for Buhari to call for his resignation over the Insecurity situation in Nigeria does not make any sense to me.
I used to like Buhari for the fact that he is one Military head of state not associated with Looting and corruption (I may be wrong). I have said this before (even though I will like corruption to be eradicated in Nigeria), Buhari is just too old to lead this country. Moreover, certain people will make sure that Buhari never smells Aso Rock.
I thought the best the General could do in this situation is to have kept silent.
Boko Haram have killed a lot of Innocent people in their places of Worship and Buhari never condemned it. Boko Haram Have killed people in Parks, Beer Palour, Place of work and the General never condemned it.
What does he want GEJ to do? Fold his hands and keep playing politics with the Lives of Nigerians?

General Buhari got it wrong this time around. Moreover this statement will just endear more people to GEJ, if for nothing else for Sympathy. GEJ is now being seen as the underdog in all this power play and Nigerians will naturally swing with Underdog.
