MyVILLAGEpeople:
Oga forget whether she is an Atheist or not. She just said the absolute truth. Even with all our Religiousness, we are still themost backward, wicked and corrupt nation. Just look at it, why do u think the most developed and prosperous countries are irreligious huh
As if those countries over night become irreligious. What where they before? Who brought education to Africa? Which country still have in their government seal "In God we trust"? It is about the mind of the society regardless of whether science or religion. Our thought process is something else; so is what we attach so much importance to...frivolities, jokes and time wasting.

So I'm in support of practising religion with open mind, open eyes and open thought. By this I meant, with your discretion and common sense. Not blindly as we do in Nigeria as religious and political leaders sadly do take advantage of it.

Relegating science to the back is already a disaster but it wasn't because of Christian religion. It was because the leaders have not put much interest in it. Live and let's live!
PoliticsRe: Mrs Akeredolu: Religion Stifles Progressive Thinking And Retards Development by EagleNest(m): 7:44am On Apr 24, 2020
Hmmmnnn, I think both religion and science play useful parts in society. It's true that the way we practise religion in Nigeria is blind and subject to serious abuse. It shouldn't have been brought too close to government like the prigmage sponsorship thing. It should remain personal.
Science on the other hand needs a bit of morality checks, otherwise such alleged accidents like COVID-19 and nuclear disasters wouldn't occur. But the first lady here seems to be mocking religion. Is she an atheist?

Nigeria is a practical joke because of the way it has been configured. Can Nigerians, like certain European countries, come together and decide to go their separate ways while maintaining mutual relationship and even open borders? Some goons just think of war the moment Biafra or disintegration of Nigeria is mentioned. Until Africans start to think above the level of Monkeys, they will never earn any respect.
My Bros, as simple as that single solution you mentioned would have helped us spring back to reckoning and productivity, however the unequally yoked bad characters among us will rather kill it so as to maintain the status quo of mass suffering and disgrace to humanity.

United Kingdom is four-nations-in-one for many decades with all the mutual attachments and independencies. They all run their own governments, different capital cities, different health and education systems, different national football teams and leagues, I can go on and on, but still one united kingdom with representatives in London.

Can't we even try something that will work for us all and fashioned by us?

I agree with you as your points are consistent with my thoughts. Most Africans(blacks) appear before other people/races with that look of a beggar. Someone seeking for assistance and ready to cut corners at any given time and never exuding confidence. You can never gain respect through such behaviours. You can't help it when your colour already makes you standout but your countenance and values will be final judgement on your personality. No one will treat you as trash if you don't look beggarly, act primitively and exude inferiority before other people. All other races have surface principles except the black man. Do any how to him and he'll smile back. Only beggars do so for obvious reasons. If you reject a gift from another race because your judgement of that gift is that it wasn't given in good faith, that person will respect you. A beggar will accept anything. Our father's made those mistakes and we're still doing the same. How can you exchange humans for mirrors? You sold off yourselves cheaply. For a man to travel that far in search of slaves means he attaches high importance to him. Demand something high too but our naive fathers never thought so. Now, we're doing the same. Expecting free money from China of late after selling ourselves to Europeans and getting nothing tangible in return.
The worst is that Asians never defeated us militarily yet we're already succumbing without a fight. Prostituting because of the money we won't ( not can't) put to good use. Where's the sense in that? Most blacks don't know that other races measure people through every interaction they have with them. A lot of Igbos know this. A some Yorubas know it too and Hausa/fulanis know it too. Your intelligence is gauged from little interactions and you're put in your place immediately. Most smaller tribes don't know this.
Another thing is fearfulness... blacks fear a lot. It also shows in our day to day activities and smart people pick these signals to place us where we belong. Asians challenged there leaders and died in millions but see where they're today. Europeans had their revolutions and are enjoying today. They fought wars for national pride. We all know about the Arab spring even though all north African countries have better standard of living than other subsaharan countries. They'll always be respected. See even Sudan rising up against Al Bashir; tomorrow when Sudan gets better we will still be calling on God to help us. No one black country have had the courage to rise against a black government facing the army who are just few hundreds of thousands. How then can we be respected? Have you ever seen a war veteran respecting a fearful delinquent civilian? It can never be! We are the problem.
The first part of your treatise, I don't entirely agree. I don't believe that we are terribly timid before them, naahh. Yes, circumstances and environments Africans found themselves with Whites varies. If you go there respectfully and legally to work or do business or interact at govt level or even school, of course no one will look down on you if you don't want to. It is how you make your bed so will you lie on it. They've done theirs very well but we refused to solve the most basic human problems (water, shelter, power and transport) ... leaving us in horrible living conditions and we still want all the respect, without doing nothing. Hmmnn!

The second part of your treatise, that one I like and it is all I'm talking about. Let's get our house sorted out and the much coveted respect will come naturally. It cannot be hidden. But doing agidi without any substance to back it, is like empty container making the loudest noise. 60 years as a nation in October 1, and we are yet to undo all the many flaws that crippled us.

Well said.
The case of Singapore (I lived there for some few years in the 2000s) is a totally inspiring one (without oil or any billion dollar churning natural resource). Ousted from Malaysia with nothing just some less than 60 years ago, Singapore today has GDP per capita 4-5times that of Malaysia, twice that of most countries in Europe, GDP PPP twice that of the US!

It has become one of the major financial hubs of the world; no oil, but has one of the largest oil refining capacity in the world!

How the world perceives a country is reflected in the ease of access a country is allowed to other countries -- Singaporean passport is visa-free to over 190 countries, making it the number 1 passport in the world. #respect

I tire for Africa, my brother . . . we're not even moving in the right direction for starters.
Thanks for the expository. The passport part makes me weep. Even the value of their money is near to dollar (1 to 0.7 USD)

Just three decades and they could do such miracles with their brains and hands. And Nigeria will be 60 years this year, without any sense of direction or purpose but we earnestly desire respect from the world, how? By fiat?

Look at this, the people of africans smallest and poorest countries Guineans has retaliated against chinese because of what they are doing to africans. Just seing this gives them respect in my eyes, now tell me what are the rest of africans doing for its citizens in China? Godbless the Guinean people
That's cool and probably the beginning of wisdom but it is still a tiny drop in a huge ocean of disrespect. Let's first look inwards, do we even love and respect ourselves? Are we not busy using religion and ethnicity as excuses for gross incompetence of leaders? Tell me, how will the miracle happen? Do we not prefer and trust Oyibo than Ourselves? When we are given contract to do a few kilometers road, do we not swallow the whole money and still not do the job or at best do a shody work? How come foreign contractors does most of the road jobs?

You see, if we dont sit our arse down and work towards fashioning out a governance and system that will work for all of us, we are not gonna get any respect.

There are a few other reasons, but the above that you just mentioned is number 1!

Think of the world as our local community, the most respected would be successful professors, successful doctors, successful lawyers, successful pharmacist, successful business men/entrepreneurs, successful teachers, successful military individuals, successful engineers, etc., throw in, how responsible/empathetic the individual is towards his/her immediate family and the community at large, while factoring in how well the family/relative of such individuals perform and carry themselves in the society.

Need I need to stress that 'successful' in this context is not only financial/material.

Now, take the above and project it into a global picture with Africa/blacks and the rest of the world/races.

We want respect -- we've got to earn it!

Additionally, when our leaders treat us like morons/dirts and we accept it, we can't expect less from outsiders.
Arabs from the U.A.E, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi, etc. are not mostly respected for their technological smarties, no, they are respected because their leaders have their interests/comfort at heart.
Sheikh Mo' of Dubai once told Steve of CNN, why do you think we're going too fast, why can't my people have the best things of life now, why later?

Also, when we go to other countries and we don't respect ourselves nor carry ourselves like diplomats representing an entire continent/race, we bring our whole lineage into disrepute.

The above and more are why we are mostly disrespected.
Yes, we are going in the same direction of: you must earn your respect. It is not by fiat or wishful thinking.

Singapore and recently Dubai were, few decades ago, nothing to write home about but today where are they? Did they not create or build something the world respects. That's what we call being smart. Oil money was used to develop Dubai and emirate citizens doesn't necessarily need to travel outside for greener pasture unless it is not obtainable at home.

Again even amongst the core whites, there are levels of respect as well, depending on your past conquests and much more about the present. You see British, Americans, Germans, French & Russians they are top notch militarily.

The British or American citizens doesn't play with governance. You must be very smart to be at leadership top not many unintelligent fellows we have as leaders all over Africa who feel entitled. In fact, we no follow at all. The gap is too much and we have centuries to see their back.

@EagleNest

It has nothing to do with contribution, its simple, because we are weak and dont respect ourself in Africa. We are known as people who can get screwed by anyone without any consequences, this is what makes us weak. Even if our scientist invents the best space vehicles to travel light speed its not likely we will get respect because we dont respect ourself and have inferiority complex when dealing with others. Look at China, how much have they invented during the last centuries? Nothing. Their economic growth is dependent on copying european inventions. What have the arabs done? But these people are respected because they respect themselves. North Africans are more respected than us in subsaharan, why? Have they invented any things? Its because they have more self respect them us. North Africans were also french colonies but have today released themselves free while subsaharan countries are still controlled by france like with CFA. Inventions is not why we are disrespected.
When you live amongst them, I bet you will understand my point. You have to earn respect for a reason - either through military or economic conquests or both. None of these are achieved by fiat. You have to be very smart to achieve it. Superiority complex doesn't come when you can't solve the most basic human problems by yourself. China, used every means possible to build itself to self dependence and today as economic powerhouse of the world. You call it copying, well that's where they started but you can see where they are now with 5G tech. There used to be a time when Japanese cars, yes Toyota was seen as inferior cars compared to European or American cars, but where are they today?

When Aba produced something, we'll rather relegate it and pull it down but a French person will prefer to patronise Peugeot car while in America than Ford. It is loyalty and believing in your own. And that's part of earning respect. You must bring something to the party Bros, not depending on aids and support here and there.

PoliticsRe: Why Africans Are So Hated All Over The World? by EagleNest(m): 3:54am On Apr 17, 2020
It should rather read: why black people (not just Africans alone) are not respected compared to other colours.

Someone have already said something in this line, "how much have we contributed to make life better for the world?"

The answer: we have contributed a lot only by mother nature's endowment but regrettably contributed very little or nothing of our own in terms of inventions, science, technology, and governance. These are the key drivers of national success and respect.

Until we start solving our own problems by our own thinking, be positively inquisitive, creative extraordinarily and competitive aggressively, no one can take us serious.

They better lock down ahead ooo. That's what NZ did and recorded very low number of deaths and are now partially returning back.

But those countries that dragged their feets and were looking and crying about their economies, were the worst hit. US, Italy, Spain, UK, etc.

COVID-19 is a silent killer and no respecter of any person. Even the lock down of only two states and FCT, is also risky, as people could sneak out from state like Lagos to another state and could jeopardise that state. This was the first mistake of Italy.
