Politics / One More Governor To Die, Cleric Predicts by earTHMama: 9:12pm On Feb 03, 2009
The Guessing Game: One more governor to die, cleric predicts
By Akinwunmi King, Reporter, Lagos

* Says Atiku Is On Path Of Destruction

A Lagos-based pastor, Oladapo Momoh, of Jah Assembly, Lawanson, has stated that the country will before the end of the year, witness the death of another governor, after that of Yobe State Governor, Mamman Bello Ali.

The pastor in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent said: "The Lord gave us the vision on December 31, 2008. He said the country will witness the death of two governors in 2009. Though, we prayed for the prediction to be averted, God insisted it was bound to happen.

"On the day Governor Mamman Alli of Yobe State died, members of the church remembered the vision, and started calling to inform me that one governor had died. But, I told them that the word of God is His bound, he always brings it to fulfilment," Momoh said.

According to him, "we have witnessed one of the deaths and definitely, we have one more to go. Before the end of the year, we are going to witness the death of another governor.

"God did not, however, reveal the name of the next governor to die. Momoh insisted that God has reasons for whatever he does, so we can't blame him because he knows best," he added.

Speaking on former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his vice, Atiku Abubakar's recent parley, the cleric explained that their parley would never yield any good fruit.

"People are thinking that something good will emanate from their reunion, but whoever reason that way is deluding him or herself.

"Atiku has already moved to a path of destruction. For him to go back to someone like Obasanjo, he has made the greatest blunder of his life. The only reason they have summoned him is to punish him for what he has done to PDP, but he has failed to realise this.

Politics / Nigeria Plans $500m New Satelites by earTHMama: 9:10pm On Feb 03, 2009
Nigeria plans $500m new satelites
Spends N1.185tr on petrol subsidy in three years
From Azimazi Momoh Jimoh, Abuja

THE Senate Committee on Public Accounts was told yesterday that although Nigeria was yet to replace the $251 million Nigeria Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) (1), which got lost in orbit last November, she was set to launch two other satellites worth $500 million.

advertisement

Also, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, (PPPRA) has put the total amount of money spent on petrol subsidy by the Federal Government in the last three years at N1.185 trillion.

Briefing the committee on details of the NIGCOMSAT projects at the National Assembly, the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Tima Ahmed Rufai, said that of the $251 million spent to launch NIGCOMSAT (1), $200 million was borrowed from the Export-Import Bank (EXIM) of China while $51 million was paid from Nigeria through appropriation.

But the committee, led by Senator Ahmed Lawan, expressed shock that the same company that was awarded the contract for launching the lost NIGCOMSAT (1), - the China Great Wall Industrial Company (CGWIC) - was also to be awarded the contract for launching the $500 million NIGCOMSAT (2 and 3).

Rufai also told the committee that the initial plan was to use NIGCOMSAT (1) for experimental purposes only, but that the plan was changed because of the need to exploit the market provided by the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.

According to the NIGCOMSAT managing director, the quest to launch and operate the satellite on commercial basis led to the failure to launch another satellite as back-up.

This situation he said, became worsen things for Nigeria as soon as it was discovered that NIGCOMSAT (1) had been lost.

Rufai however stated that the lost satellite would be replaced by the Chinese company because there was an agreement to that effect. But the re-launch would not take place until late 2010 or early in 2011 when all arrangements would have been put in place to that effect.

Explanations on the insurance for the project were however found not to be satisfactory by the committee as it lamented the non-inclusion of the business and financial benefits that Nigeria would have made from NIGCOMSAT (1) in the insurance. Rufai had informed the committee that only the assets were insured.

Rufai said three options were considered in respect of the $500 million NIGCOMSAT (2 and 3) before the decision was taken to award their contracts to CGWIC, pointing out that government could choose to fund the project alone or give approval that some Nigerian banks could come together to counter-guarantee any loan that would be taken from China for the launch of the two satellites.

The third option according to Rufai, was for NIGCOMSAT to be completely privatised so that it could source its funds from anywhere.

The Acting Executive Secretary of PPPRA, Wole Adamolekun told the committee that the appropriate price of petrol should be N67.28, adding that government was subsidising the product by N2.

Adamolekun said government paid N276.2 billion in 2006, of which the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) got N242.6 billion while oil marketers shared N19.121 billion.

According to him, the Federal Government paid N278 billion as subsidy in 2007, of which the NNPC got N2.7billion while major and independent marketers got N51.388 billion.

"In 2008, the subsidy was N633.192 billion with the NNPC being paid N270.495 billion and major and independent marketers sharing N260.8 bilion", he said.

Adamolekun noted that in those three years, NNPC was paid N851.5 billion while the major and independent marketers shared N330.6billion to bring the total amount spent on subsidy to N1.185 trillion.

"In 2007, government budgeted N100 billion and we projected N300 billion but at the end of the year, N278billion was the total expenditure for subsidy by government."

He said though no budgetary provision was made by government for subsidy in 2008, the sum of N370 billion was expended by government

He said that because of the dwindling fortune of oil in the international market, the accurate price of petrol per litre last year was to be N63.

He said: "by November last year, we had a difference of N7 and by December, it was about N12 difference and now, what we have is N67.28 per litre. In November, the landing cost was N50 apart from the margin of N13".

Adamolekun told the committee that though the price of kerosene stood at N50 per litre, "the real price is N83 with the government subsidising by N13."

Father ties daughter’s leg with wire - Leg amputated
By Idowu Adelusi
Sunday, February 1, 2009
A 50-year-old ex-soldier, Mr. Tiamiyu Dauda was arraigned before the Juvenile Court, Iyaganku, Ibadan last Friday over allegation of causing his daughter’s leg to be amputated.

Mr. Daudu allegedly tied the two arms and the left leg of his eight-year-old daughter with wire to the extent that the leg was infected and it had to be amputated.

Mr. Dauda was said to have applied the measure on the girl as a punishment for stealing.

The ex-soldier turned farmer, who lives at Aremo area of Ibadan allegedly took his daughter to a traditional hospital at Arogun Oje when the condition of the leg became worse.

The father had reported at the hospital that the girl was hit by a motorcyclist. The trial magistrate, Mrs. A.S. Bolaji adjourned the case to Friday 6 February 2009 to enable the mother who had divorced Dauda to appear in court.

The court also ordered the girl to be kept at the Oyo State Ministry of Social Welfare while the suspect is to be detained at the Iyaganku Police Station for further investigation.

1. Yar Adua handed over bakassi, he can also hand us over to republic of Benin. It is the same thing. When Yar Adua handed over Bakassi to cameroon. The senate and house of rep approve it without a consitutional review. So the senate and house of rep should approve it by simple majority to remove us. Obasanjo also handover some land in the north to cameroon or chad and niger.

While I do not have any problem with his blind pro-Yoruba analyses, what is most disgusting is his penchant for 'polluting' otherwise sane threads with his ridiculous satellite pictures(he has even graduated to including horrific, scary pictures of human heads).
This guy is becoming a menace to NL and all previous entreaties to call him to order have proved abortive.

What can be done to restrain this guy? I believe a re-orientation(or is it rehabilitation?) is a good way to start
. How can we educate him on how to argue sanely;put more appropriately, how to press home his point without recourse to those useless pictures.
Re-orientate BecomeRich? Try again, abeg. I suggest we send him to Darfur so he can have a personal relationship with wars and see how it feels. Since he is advocating for 15 million yorubas to put their lives at stake for his cause, he should be the first to call the shots.

question2 : i wouldnt do it, it is just like saying a pretty girl escorts a rich man to parties, etc and gets paid just like that without the man wanting some favors in return for more money. the evil is always at work, discipline no get any chance for this one oo
Men are different from women. They will always want some but women that hire the services of professional Escorts like Sauron seldom ask for bedroom services.

We yorubas would reward the USA, and more since Michelle Obama is Gullah(Yoruba).
It makes economy sense. Nigeria economy crash when they move the capital to abuja. And when we leave them. Our economy would pick up. see ivory coast pictures with oil.

Here we go again. Will Obama(our inlaw) help us secede? grin grin grin
