Olu of Warri is just a title. He does not have domain over the entire Warri as we know it not to talk of the greater Warri (Effurun, Ekpan, Okumagba, Aladja etc - All Urhobo arears). No doubt Itsekiri are of Yoruba, irrespective of whatever lineage theories, because they have said that they are Yoruba. Hower, even what you may consider the main Warri town (not greater Warri) is made up of Itsekirirs, Urhobos and Ijaws, hence my assertion that the title of Olu of Warri is misleading. From my understanding and observations, Urhobos are the dominant force in Warri (including greater Warri), and probably (with their Isoko brethen) the entire Delta state. So many bloody wars have been fought in recent times in Warri over this issue. It will be foolhardy for any external force to try and over project Olu of Warri and try to extend his influence beyond his Itsekiri people and their domain. 2 Likes |

TheLionofLasigi: Suit yourself. But indulge me a bit. What triggered you in this topic? Apparently it's a project in a non-Igbo town, in a non-Igbo state being attended by a minister of Ikwerre origin. Was it the Igbotic attire? You feel let down by Amaechi for wearing such? Was it just general hostility for a major project (even though it may never see the light of day) being planned outside SW that you erroneously feel might have the potential of breaking the monopoly of the SW ports? Its too close to the SE for your comfort? What triggered you to turn to your usual Just curious? |

TheLionofLasigi: Brah! It's a stupid argument that you can never win. Even if you win the argument, it doesn't change anything. There's only a handful of us still on this page. Probably a handful of people will read it in future with a handful of likes. You're just indulging your ego. Fam, as much as you may wish, Igbo is not same Igbo in as many "selective" stock pictures as you may like to post. Despite obvious huge setback, the Igbo keeps on moving forward. 1 step forward, 3 backwards, 4 steps forward. Yes it's painful and difficult, and there are probably easier ways to do it, but we are Igbo and we do it the Igbo way. The Igbotic way. The Okoro way or whatever you may call it, but it's our way. Die hard and frustratingly resilient. Able to withstand what will have obliterated others. We chest am, nack hand for chest, and move on. We argue among ourselves. We fight each other. We are our own worst critics. But we emerge more determined and better. I know the transformation from how our society was in the 19th century to where we are now, defies logic and is exceptional. The bounce back from the civil war where your parents and grandparents were celebrating "Igbos are now our slaves" was mind blowing. "Igbo wey dey chop stone" is now big landlord eh? E pain. That's life Upon all your attack attack attack, has anything changed? No. Will anything change? No. Let it go brah. 2 Likes |

TheLionofLasigi: So you are back from your emergency furious Google search eh? There is no doubt that some women in regions all over Nigeria dressed like the women in the 3rd picture in that era. There were also some people in the era, in all regions in the South, who dressed in full English wear. Google will give you results for what you search for. Yes I agree with you. The agbada style is not synonymous only with Yorubas, so who did they adopt it from? Adire and aseoke done for 100s of years? Big lie! Also you conveniently showed only fulani attire, meanwhile this is Hausa attire from an era before the one you showed. I'm 100% certain that the Yoruba attire was adapted from Hausas. Stupid argument anyway.

Patrioticbreed9: Exactly! Nigerians will turn anything into hate-fueled ethnic argument, full of insults, that only exposes how ignorant they are, and does not serve any good to the tribe that they are claiming to represent. Human practices move from place to place, often modifying as it goes along. Nobody invents everything and it's only a backward, insular and barbaric group that will not change and adapt to new and better things. Imagine the audacity of a person from a tribe who adapted better things from other tribes (no matter how long ago) accusing another tribe of not being proud of their culture by adapting? How twisted and depraved is that? Tueh! 2 Likes |
