BiafranDel: the full length,L of the tube=40cm=0.4m.
It is 3 quarter filled with water i.e 0.4*3/4= 0.3m which is the length of water.
To find the length of air we say, length of tube - length of water i.e 0.4 - 0.3= 0.1m.
for a closed pipe. fundamental frequency F= velocity/wavelength(4l)
where vel= 334m/s, wavelength= 4L i.e 4*0.1= 0.4m.
Therefore frequency = 334/0.4, frequency= 835hertz. D Bro, the answer that was gotten was 2511Hz. I don't knw how they come abt it. |

DrBESTJC: This is Smart!........but very technical and time consuming. And You will still need a calculator to do it, especially when big numbers are involved. I don't think it requires a calculator because one can use long division method to divide big numbers. It is just that this method is time consuming but it will be useful in exams. |

DrBESTJC: Yes...but the formula I discovered does not give the exact value....only the approximate value.. There is actually a way you can get the exact value of the square root of a number. To find the square root of a number x: _/x=(x/y+y)/2 Where x=the number whose square root is to be determined and y=the number which when squared give a perfect sqr close to x, that is, y^2 is close to x. This method must be repeated at least thrice. For example, (i) to find the sqrt of 2: x=2, y=1(since 1^2 is close to x) _/2=(2/1+1)/2=3/2=1.5. Repeat the method again but ur new y will be 1.5: (2/1.5+1.5)/2=(17/6)/2=17/12=1.42. Repeat the method the third time but ur new y will be 1.42: (2/1.42+1.42)/2=1.4142. You can keep repeating this method like dis. (ii) to find sqrt of 13: x=13, y=3(since 3^2 is a perfect square close to 13). _/13=(13/3+3)/2=11/3=3.7. Repeat the method again, (13/3.7+3.7)/2=3.61. Repeat the method again, (13/3.61+3.61)/2=3.60555. Repeat the method continuously. |
