Abia State Government has reinstated the ban on public gatherings, and compulsory wearing of facemasks in public places as the second wave of COVID-19 takes its toll on Nigeria, IgbereTV reports.

Following this, the state is set to map out a day in the coming days to observe Abia COVID-19 Awareness Day with the purpose of laying emphasis on the pandemic and the need to ensure compliance to the rules and protocols to curtail the spread of the virus.

This will see critical stakeholders and Abians on the streets of the State helping to lay emphasis on the need to observe the COVID-19 protocols.

The Chairman of the State Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID-19 and Secretary to the State Government, Barr Chris Ezem made the revelation today at a meeting with Abia Traditional Rulers Council, religious leaders, security agencies and some select stakeholders in the state at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.

The SSG at the meeting said the second wave of COVID-19 cannot be taken for granted as the records from NCDC keeps getting more and more frightening as the days go by noting that the lives of Abians are more sacred than any other thing and deserves every necessary step taken to protect them.

He further revealed that Abia is returning to status quo with regard to initial measures taken to contain the spread of the virus during the first wave and warned that non compliance could lead to total lockdown.

On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Osuji revealed that the first nine months of the pandemic had Abia Record 1015 positive cases, while it has recorded over 300 cases between January and now, noting that this record calls for serious actions.

The Commissioner then restated his call for collective action against the virus.

The State Epidemiologist, Peace Nwogwugwu and former Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Caroline Iwuoha decried the high level of doubt about the reality of the virus among Abians and explained that simple personal hygiene, frequent wearing of facemasks, and social distancing are good preventive measures against the virus, revealing that most cases recorded are as a result of ignorance and fear among the people and called for frequent testing and contact tracing.

The Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu who frowned at the attitude of the people towards observing Covid-19 protocols applauded security agencies, religious bodies and traditional rulers for their efforts during the first wave and said the second wave requires even more action.

Kalu appealed to religious bodies to ensure compliance through the provision of hand washing materials as well as sanitizers for their members.

To this end, Government and the stakeholders resolved as follows:

1. That all churches, business centres and eateries are expected to boldly have an inscription "NO FACEMASK, NO ENTRY" at the entrance of their buildings and programme venues

Wearing of facemask is compulsory while church worship activities must end by 2pm.

2. All market leadership must provide "NO FACEMASK, NO ENTRY", at the entrance of all markets and ensure total compliance with the advised protocols.

3. All Transport regulations remain as provided earlier. Tricycle operators known as Keke must not carry more than 2 persons at any given time. The riders must remember that Government has reviewed their fees downwards because they are required to carry only two passengers on any journey, while mini buses will carry only four passengers and usual buses, nine.

It is compulsory that everyone in such commercial vehicles must put on their facemasks including the drivers.

4. Existing regulations as they affect eateries, including the "NO FACEMASK, NO ENTRY" policy, also affect the hospitality industry i.e hotels.

All staff of such business concerns must wear facemasks while running water/soap with alcohol based hand sanitizers must be provided at the entrance and within the facility for use by anyone coming into the building.

As part of measures to ensure compliance, Government officials will pay unscheduled visits to these places and any business concern that defaults will be closed down and a fine of N100,000 imposed which must be paid before it will be reopened.

5. Weddings and burials will go back to the initial protocols of not more than 50 persons in attendance.

Traditional Rulers of all communities in conjunction with Local Government Chairmen are to set up taskforce to monitor burials and weddings. Such taskforce has the authority of the state to stop any wedding or burial that contravenes the Covid-19 protocols.

“We cannot afford to lose lives because of non compliance to simple rules as the second wave of the virus has graver health and life threatening implications than the first one”, said Barr Ezem.

He further stated that Government urges everyone to cooperate with the committee to ensure that the guidelines are followed without any encumberances.

6. Every Ministry Department, Agencies (MDAs) and parastatals are to ensure that the "NO FACEMASK, NO ENTRY" inscription is placed at every office entrances. They must also provide running water and soap or alcohol based hand sanitizers.

7. All private and public schools are to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols as earlier established. Well meaning Abians can also help government and other public institutions with the provision of facemasks and other needed items for pupils and students to help fight the pandemic.

8. Compulsory wearing of facemasks is now in place. Once anyone contravenes the law, the person will pay a fine of N5,000. The mobile courts will be in place to try defaulters.

9. Abia COVID-19 Day will be launched soonest. It will begin at the Local Government to the state level. All Abians are expected to come out wearing their facemasks on the streets of Abia as a way of showing solidarity with government in its efforts to protect the citizens from the pandemic

10. Community testing and sample collection is ongoing in all the 17 Local Government Areas.

The state Government urged all traditional institutions and religious bodies to encourage their members to go for testing, know their status as the collection and testing is free.

According to Ezem, medical teams at designated isolation and treatment centers are operating 24 hours daily and are ready to nurse infected persons back to good health.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, Deputy, Speaker, Other Members Of The House, State EXCO, Pay Condolence Visit To Late Ekweremadu’s Family

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Friday, led a state government delegation to the family of the late Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. Mathias Ekweremadu Jnr, on a condolence visit, at his Enugu residence, IgbereTV reports.

Gov. Ugwuanyi who was accompanied by his Deputy, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi, other members of the House and State Executive Council (EXCO), consoled the wife of the late Commissioner, Mrs. Stella Ekweremadu, his children and other family members.

The governor and his entourage were also received by the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, who offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the late Ekweremadu, and for God to grant his family and the state government the fortitude to bear the loss.

The late Ekweremadu was ex-Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area and former Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly who represented Aninri Constituency, between 2013 and 2019.

Man Dies In Jos After He Jumped From Storey Building And Hid Inside A Well To Evade EFCC Arrest (Photos)

A yet-to-be-identified young man has been confirmed dead after he was brought out of a well in Farin Gada area of Jos, Plateau state on Friday morning, February 5, IgbereTV reports.

It was gathered that the deceased jumped from a storey building while attempting to flee from operatives of the Economic and Financial Cromes Commission (EFCC) who stormed their house at ECWA staff quarters to arrest them for alleged fraud and cyber crime.

While his six flat mates were arrested by the operatives, the young man jumped from the first floor and hid inside the well in the compound.

His corpse was brought out of the well by men of the Federal Fire Service Jos on Friday morning after a report was lodged in their office.

His legs were said to be broken as a result of the high jump. Police were on ground to evacuate the corpse from the scene.

Billionaire Businessman, Bolu Akin-Olugbade's Rolls Royce, His Library And Other Personal Belongings Used To Decorate The Hall At His Service Of Songs

Some properties belonging to late billionaire businessman, Bolu Akin-Olugbade's including his Rolls Royce, library and other personal items were used to decorate the hall at his service of songs, IgbereTV reports.

The service of songs for Prince Bolu took place on Wednesday, February 3. He died on January 13 after battling with COVID19 complications.

A native of Owu kingdom in Ogun state, late Akin-Olugbade was one of the world’s biggest Rolls-Royce collector. He loved the brand so much that he had 10 Rolls Royce that had his customized plate numbers- ‘BOLU 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…”

To celebrate his life, his luxury cars, as well as his library and some of his clothing items, were used to decorate the hall where his service of songs held. He was 64 years old.

Ikpeazu Condoles With Governor Udom And Akwa Ibom People On The Death Of 4 Of Their Prominent Sons

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has tasked Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to draw courage and strenght from God's word at difficult and challenging times, IgbereTV reports.

Governor Ikpeazu said this today at Government House Uyo when he paid a condolence visit to the Governor and People of Akwa Ibom State on the death of four of their very prominent sons, who died within the first month of this year.

The Governor described the deaths of these men in quick succession as very sad and disturbing, especially considering the fact that they were men with lots of experience who had served and are still rendering service to the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (Rtd), who also served as the Director General of the Campaign Organization of Governor Udom Emmanuel in the 2015 and 2019 elections, former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Nsikak Eduok (Rtd), the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon Udo Ekpeyong and the State Commissioner for Lands, Arc. Ime Ekpo all died within the month of January 2021.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu expressed his personal condolences and those of the entire government and people of Abia State to Governor Emmanuel and prayed God to console the families of these deceased men. The Governor used the opportunity also, to appreciate Governor Emmanuel for the solid infrastructure he is providing for his people and the various job opportunities he has consistently opened for his people.

Responding, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State welcomed Governor Ikpeazu and his entourage to Akwa Ibom State, saying that the visit has brought huge comfort and strength to him. He described Governor Ikpeazu as a close personal friend of his, with whom he shares a lot in common, even outside the confines of politics and governance.

He described the death of these men as most devastating and almost inexplicable but that as Christians, we must continue to turn to God's word for support at times like this.
The Governor also invited Governor Ikpeazu to the funeral of the Late Air Commodore Nkanga this weekend.

Governor Ikpeazu later endorsed the Condolence Register.

El-Rufai condemns, wants diligent investigation

Governor Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufa’i of Kaduna state has urged for diligent investigation into the burning of pavilion in Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna state

Malam El-Rufai condemned the burning of the pavilion arranged for a church conference near a local monarch’s palace.

Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, said on Friday that the Government of Kaduna state received security report detailing the incident, which stated that a pavilion erected by the leadership of the ECWA Church ahead of its conference was set ablaze by unknown persons at a location near the Palace of the Agwatyap.

“The Governor who frowned at the incident, directed security agencies to carry out diligent investigation towards identifying and punishing the culprits. Investigations into the incident are in progress,” he said.

Anambra State Govt Reacts To The Bathing Video Of Prophet Onyeze Jesus' Adherents

The government of Anambra has reacted to the bathing video of Prophet Onyeze Jesus' adherents, IgbereTV reports.

The Anambra-based prophet was seen in the viral video spraying money on his adherents who were bathing in a river.

On seeing the video, the Anambra State government frowned at the conduct of the prophet and has promised to take action against it in order to prevent future occurrence.

A statement dated 25/01/21 which was made available to IgbereTV by the Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba, reads;

"Warning against Criminal and Indecent Conduct in the Name of Religion

1. The Anambra State Government is in possession of some videos produced by one person who goes by the name of Onyeze Jesus based in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, where he not only claims to change the economic status of his adherents by magical means but also throws a lot of Nigeria’s currency notes into the river and compels his adult followers, both male and female, to bath naked in the river and records them on video which he distributes gleefully to all manner of people through the Internet and other means.

2. The State Government is appalled at the conduct of this man. Anambra people are famous throughout the world for their industry, knowledge, ingenuity, perseverance, a high savings rate and an infectious business drive, all combined to enable them to achieve tremendous success in various fields. Their success is not overnight nor through magic.

3. Onyeze Jesus promotes superstition and strife in society. By telling his gullible and brainwashed followers that their misfortune is caused by family members, relatives, friends and business associates through magical powers, he is fomenting serious troubles and instigating eternal enmity in various places and businesses. Some of these troubles can lead to physical fights, bodily injuries and even deaths.

4. By throwing plenty of naira notes into the river regularly as part of sacrifice to the river goddess and filming it and distributing the film to the whole world, he has brought Anambra State into global ridicule and, worse, gregariously committed a criminal offence. Burning or destroying the naira through any means is an offence criminalized by the Central Bank of Nigeria Act of 2007, and the offender is liable to imprisonment.

5. By forcing his disciples to have a bath naked in a river, then film the naked adults and distribute the videos across the globe, Onyeze Jesus is guilty of denying his followers the right to self-dignity and of promoting indecent exposure, which is a crime under the Nigerian law.

6. We have received reports from former disciples that Onyeze Jesus has swindled them of their hard earned resources, that is, all the promises and assurances of turning them into overnight millionaires have proved to be fraudulent. The state Government is looking into the claims. If we find merit in the claims, he will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

7. The people and Government of Anambra State are irrevocably committed to fundamental rights of freedom of worship and freedom of association as well as freedom of conscience. However, observing these freedoms should not lead to a situation where heinous crimes will be carried out with impunity, whether in the name of religion or not.

8. Anambra State is a modern society governed by the rule of law, civilized values and proper conduct. The government will not stand akimbo watching while an individual or a handful of individuals flagrantly abuse its values and flout its laws.

9. We wish to thank numerous individuals and organizations alarmed at the conduct and claims of Onyeze Jesus and his cohorts and complained accordingly to the appropriate authorities. We assure them and millions of our people that an appropriate action is being taken.
