Waste management is a MANAGEMENT issue. The state should ask first where is the waste being generated, how much waste and what types before deploying a solution. This is where simple enumeration of residential and business activity in cities is critical so that one can estimate it and price the costs of waste collection and disposal. Every single tenant of a flat or shop should pay a waste fee that aligns with waste they generate.

Once you can price costs of waste collection and disposal then people should pay for generating waste and having it collected for them.

The state needs to also pass the cost of waste to manufacturers of pure water sachets, plastic bags and plastic bottles. Anyone manufacturing drinks in plastic bottles should pay a surcharge per bottle for waste disposal.

Finally, thr state needs to do something about informal hawkers of foods, fruits, vegetables, etc. They congregate on busy roads and dump their waste and go.

In Woji Town in Port harcourt where my house is,there is no problem at all with refuse collection,the ubiquitous Hausa cart pushers are all over town,they always announce their presence in a loud voice usually early in the morning but the problem is that Port harcourt does not have one single refuse collation center in woji........so the hausa boys dump the refuse into the creek surrounding woji!

Instead of hausa cart pushers why not allow all these youth associations in Obosi,Onitsha etc and members of APGA youth wing apply for different sections of the the metro area and allow them to collect refuse for a designated affordable amount! What equipment do they use? instead of expensive truck compacters,why dont we re engineer the keke to tow waste wagons or build a wagon unto the chassis..............either way we can use Innosson to do the redesign of the keke or get our university engineering faculties to do the work! I am tired of seeing Nigerian engineers/technicians idling away............let us get serious about development and growth! Refuse disposal alone can get thousands of youths busy...................Anambra state can restrict herself to sweeping major roads and streets and clearing drains! More resourced Private refuse contractors can bid for refuse collection work for major markets and industries but the state must establish dozens of refuse collation centers for the system to work!

Just seen this report on the increasing number of uncleared/unauthorised refuse dumping spots in major cities in Anambra. I thought the state gov't had mapped out a plan for regular collection of refuse from residential and business premises, so why have things degenerated to this extent? Is it that other things are now preoccupying the governors time, and even if this is the case, aren't there gov't officials and civil servants charged with ensuring the state is kept clean? So if Soludo doesn't do their job for them by personally going out with shovel and wheelbarrow to evacuate the eyesore, does this mean they can't do the job themselves?

For crying out loud, keeping our cities clean and free of unsightly refuse dumps isn't rocket science! Whoever TF is responsible for this dereliction of duty should be queried immediately and made to sit up or face the prospect of getting sacked!

This video has validated the reports I was getting from folks in Onitsha and Awka, The sanitary condition in Onitsha has gone back to the days before Obiano left office( when refuse contractors went on strike)! That strike was a sytemic shock to a well oiled refuse collection system........I knew that for the system to catch up and get back on track will be an uphill struggle! Even the Obiano refuse collection system was at best delicate but it was still manageable! For soludo's system to work properly ,billions will have to be spent by anambra on compactors,bins and personel emoluments etc

The government needs to commoditize/commercialize refuse collection,disposal and recycling, if there is money in it ,then people especially the unemployed may venture into it! Onitsha is a large metropolis, Anambra state has to designate more refuse collation centers within town and dump sites for mass private participation by individuals to work...

My take is that we need to think out of the box to tackle this refuse issue!

I shuttle between Ibadan, Abeokuta and Lagos often. I'm mostly on that expressway but for a while now I've been stuck in Ibadan cuz of the numerous evil news about the Fulani herdsman menace on that highway.

Just before this December I read on the news some AIG visited this very same highway and together with Seyi Makinde the governor of Oyo state, I remember they promised that the road will become safer and there should be no panicking or fear and that people should go about their journey as it would become just as before where everyone can travel safely using the expressway.

Hehe. Yesterday was my favourite cousin introduction at Abeokuta and I had no choice than to be there.

I took a public bus (not that I have a car though but I can always get one when the need arise) off to Abeokuta and on my way what I saw makes me wanna go to every SW government house and say a very big thank you to all our governors.

There are bunch of Amotekun stations, Police, Army. Almost at every where till the end of Oyo state axis and then when you get to the Ogun state axis, you will see the OP Mesa patrolling the whole expressway.

The Ibadan axis has actually been the hotspot for the criminals actually but almost everywhere on the road you will see Amotekuns station even 12 am I was still on the road yesterday travelling safely with peace of mind seeing the huge security on that expressway.

This is Akeredolus biggest achievement so far in governance as the chairman of the SWGF. I couldn't help but be once again glad and proud to be South Westerner yesterday when I saw Amotekuns stations all over the place.

What I found amazing the most yesterday was if your car/vehicle get broken, you'd be surprised at the speed the OP Mesas and Amotekuns would get to you to stay with you while you fix it. Damn. They will stay right there with you protecting you untill your car can move again. Na. This is all that I ever pray for.
