This is the only way our nation can continue to move forward.

When would Nigeria abolish capital punishment? I think Nigeria is a signatory to the second protocol of civil and political right which abolishes death sentence. Many legal systems of the world have abolished death sentence because of its inherent weaknesses. First, it's against the dignity of a human being. Second, it does not give room for errors in judgment. Judges are humans and they cannot be too sure about their own judgments. Atleast, there should be some doubts. We have seen exoneration of a convicted person after many years of his conviction. Death sentence extinguishes all remedies, all possibilities. How do you reconcile the above. Thirdly, death sentence does not give room for repentance and rehabilitation.
I hope there should be a change in our judicial attitude towards capital punishment one day.
