Career / Re: Should I Stay With My Job Or Go With This New Job? by Eddee(m): 7:24pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
Short story: Stay with your bank Job! If he/she is an SSA or a Special Adviser, maybe I'll say take the risk and make the switch, but for an SA, answer is NO! Long story: The SA who wants to employ you does not have job security also. An SA is a political appointee, he/she most likely didn't recieve a customized engagement letter detailing his roles and responsibilities for his principal. The governor issues a circular followed immediately by a Press Release that confirms the SA's appointment, so he/she can't give you an engagement letter when he/she most likely doesn't have one. I can go on and on, with regards to the process of documentation for the appointment. The current salary been proposed by your would be employer will drop I can assure you, governors have cut appointee salaries by a huge margin recently due to cashflow challenges. The bank offers you the best career path coupled with the added bonus of job security. Start building your accounting skills - professional certification is great if you can afford the ICAN classes. If not learn how to use Quickbooks/SAGE and if you have a Banking/Accounting background, brush up on your financial reporting for Not for Profits. While you are it, take online courses on procurement/supply chain and taxation (basic treatments of income tax and WHT will suffice for now). Show proof of progress in 6 months and remind me of this thread, I will guarantee you a physical interview for a project that starts next year. 8 Likes |

alphaNomega: Well, this is a BMW thread. I'll hate to derail by discussing British problems here. Maybe on a dead thread, I will fill you in! Take it from me, I once slept at a Mechanic's workshop because I held a torch light for him and he worked through the night to achieve nothing. 3 Likes |

alphaNomega: I understand your position perfectly, only thing I still maintain is having to wait that long for my car to cool down will be plain torture! A quarter hour sitting in a car doing nothing? I'd have listed the car for sale on nairaland or jiji within that time frame. If it's any consolation, I have never been a fan of turbos or superchargers. Had a horrible experience with a Range Rover that almost sent us back to the Village. Story for another day! 4 Likes |

alphaNomega: alphaNomega: 30 seconds of idle and I would have said well, it's okay - what can possibly go wrong? But 15 mins is a lot of time to allow an engine idle and waste fuel after driving (even if it was driven into the evil forest and back to the land of the living). I've tried to avoid making a comment with regards to the absurd "15 minutes" idle wait since I saw your first post, but the moment you generalized it in your last post, yep I was done with keeping quiet! Funny how a quick informed Google search says otherwise. Might as well read a book while waiting for your turbo to cool down. 2 Likes |

Praxtech: Won that battle a long time ago, I provoke that year, close eye buy all 4 Hella Sensors from pelican parts. The ESP light been on is actually nice if you enjoy spirited driving, as any thing regarding traction control in the real sense is finally off. Because even if you turn it off manually, that car will still assist you whenever the computer decides to act. |
Car Talk / Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by Eddee(m): 12:32pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
HeavenlyBang: This one is a given, that Benz and ESP light na 5&6! Only a matter of time before naija mud, a mechanic banging the joints in order to loosen them during any suspension work or a combination of both misaligns the sensors. Make him just keep him 10-15k for genuine Mercedes Benz Speed sensors or toks and avoid those rubbish Tibao nonsense. 1 Like |

@Nurey - the reality is sad but true. We have to do better than coming online to fight everyday, I mean you flip through pages hoping to find a sweet deal and end up reading vitriol. @deepwater - let it go. It's quite common on here for car threads to degenerate into name-calling, we've all seen our fair share and at one time or another even participated in it - the average Nigerian considers a car as an investment, therein lies the crux of this matter. A car is a liability unless it makes you money and even if it does, there's still the small issue of depreciation to contend with. I've had issues with plenty people on here, and so far so good the diplomatic approach hasn't failed me. E no get wer e reach but las las we dey always settle am. The major players in this e-fight should take a one month break. By all means, people should criticise constructively and avoid veiled comments. I saw HeavenlyBang's take and as long as he kept it 100, I had no problem with that. The GMechanic raised his concerns in a tone-deaf manner, he offered knowledge no doubt but in a condescending manner - this cannot be tolerated in a business thread. I know, but it's been how many days now? And we are still on that issue. We need the mods to maintain sanity here. 5 Likes |

Cost of doing business in Nigeria. SON's only interested in revenue generation, not quality assurance! Lemme go and see how much they've remitted to the GON's coffers over the last 5 years. P.S - Can't find evidence of their expenditure or remittances. An organization whose focus is majored on revenue generation cannot standardize best practices effectively, a quick glance at the SON Act and its riddled with fines left, right and center and the occasional prison threat for defaulters. 18 Likes

Who actually benefits from this chaos? I read somewhere that "In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity". Look no further I've done the hard work and present to you facts. Anyways, before calm and normalcy returns here. I'll start (covertly) looking out for cheap deals to buy and resell going forward. Please if you see OP's price and you see my mark-up. Mind your business, we all can't be preaching fairness and equality. With 15M or less (financing can be provided) you can definitely fill up a car stand with quick selling Japs - low risk, high turnover. Anyone of you that wants the complete business plan and a feasibility study based on the last 5 pages of this thread, don't be shy - hit the pm button for rates. 1 Like |

Good evening ma, got into town earlier and proceeded to see my mechanic. He was very busy and had lots of work so I sorta borrowed his boy to do the heavy lifting just outside his workshop. I know we should have taken all those fancy precautions to secure bolts and all, but damn the sun wasn't friendly and we were working on a timeline. The Mercedes S Class Ball joints are a direct fit for the lower arm and the knuckle. However, you'll need a hydraulic press to remove and attach the new ones. Didn't bother with this as luck will have it, there was a totalled Chrysler 300 in his shop. Owner was just too happy to receive a call requesting for account details. As always, thank you! 1 Like
