Proverbs 18:7 (KJV) A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. It is possible to ignore the consequences of talking loosely sometimes; however, we must beware that the price for such looseness can be very high spiritually. If we say negative things about ourselves, we end up establishing it in the spirit realm. How can we be praying and hoping in God, but still be having negative confessions? We set spiritual traps for ourselves by our own words when we talk loosely. We need to make a choice, because death and life is in the tongue. Watch your confessions dear reader. Be very careful how you describe your situation to others. May we walk in wisdom and talk less to men and talk more to God about our situation. May we learn to exercise self control and also build our faith in God. Have a blessed Thursday. *Prayer:* If I have spoken negative things about myself, I reverse all such in Jesus name. 11/08/2022 |

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has confirmed the arrest of the attackers of St Francis Catholic Church, Owo. The Governor confirmed the arrest shortly after the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor made the announcement in Abuja. Governor Akeredolu further disclosed that the owner of the house where the attackers stayed before the June 5 attack in Owo has also been arrested. He noted that government did not spare a moment in trailing the terrorists since the horrendous attacks on innocent worshipers at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Owo. Arakunrin Akeredolu spoke during a courtesy visit to his office by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by the Chairman of the Council, Prince Leke Adegbite. He said:”Now that the military has announced it, I can tell you that five of them have been arrested now. They are still on the trail of the rest. The home where they lodged in Owo and the person that accommodated them before the attack, has also been arrested. “We did not spare a moment. I am happy that the Chief of Defence Staff has announced it. We have known for a while but we needed not to come out with it because more works are still ongoing. I can confirm that this arrest has been made. And they are still on the trail of some of them.” Governor Akeredolu has also called on leaders of the Ebira community in the state to warn their young ones not to copy the bad venture of kidnapping. The Governor said recent reports from victims of kidnap in the state have established that some Ebira indigenes are now involved in the unwholesome act. He noted that the Ebiras have lived together with the people of the state peacefully for several decades, adding that they have always been supportive and hardworking. “I want to use this medium to urge our brothers to concentrate on their farming trade. It will be unfortunate to know that the Ebiras in our midst are now involved in kidnapping. “We are appealing to them not to copy bad thing. The traders selling by the road side should not become informants. We are not fighting them. “We have seen their numbers, they supported and voted for us during elections. I will call their leaders and talk to them. Our brothers who were kidnapped on their way to Ikare, talk to them. They were taken to Ebira farmsteads. “For me, we have lived together for too long for this to happen. I am ready to make any effort to ensure that the conviviality that we have enjoyed continues. But we are begging their leaders to urge them not to copy bad thing. They are in our midst , we are surrounded by them. The issue of security is key and it’s dynamic.” Governor Akeredolu noted. The Governor, who thanked the NUJ in the state for the cooperation extended to his administration, assured them of sustained efforts at developing the state. On the issue of Security, Governor Akeredolu disclosed that aside the recent recruitment and training of new Amotekun personnel, 20 hunters and local vigilantes will be trained by the Amotekun corps in each of the eighteen local government areas in the state. Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Ondo State Council thanked the Governor for his support for the management of OSRC and Owena Press PLC, adding that the upgrade of facilities in the two state-owned media outfits is commendable. He equally appreciated the Governor for the approval of the Weigh-in allowance for journalists and information officers working in the State and Local government service. US Dollar vs NIG Naira: The Real Issues By Dr. Oni Gbolabo 1. Appreciation and depreciation of currency is not related to race or color or who is the president be it Hausa Igbo or Yoruba. It is basically about production of goods and services and the demand of your products in the world market. A confused country that produces almost nothing will never meet up. Policies only control your currency, not the value of another country's currency against yours. 2. A country where over 500 industries died within 30 years must be stupid to complain of depreciation of her currency. We keep killing local industries and expect policies to make it up. It's a joke sir. Don't use China as an example in depreciating currencies and strong economy. China produces and may attract more export with that strategy unlike Nigeria that produces nothing. 3. A country where someone carried $2+billion simply to be shared is already a doomed one in terms of monetary policy and value. A country that produces Dizeani and Bafarawa who spent billions to appease demons. Money without economic value is an economic poison injected into the system. 4. A country that favours importation over local production is doomed because it creates employment for another country while sacking her own citizens. Some people are working in Michelin and Dunlop somewhere, yet we use the tyre here. Don't tell me principle of comparative advantage here. It's not applicable. 5. A country that exports all raw materials without adding value is shameless to talk of depreciation of currency, to later re-import finished products of that material is the peak of daftness. A bag of cocoa will go for like N1 million but when it is processed it will be worth around N7 million. Even farmers who produce raw cocoa can't buy chocolate. 6. A country that deliberately operate a banking system that gives loans to importers at the expense of local industries is doomed and should say nothing about depreciation. Most of the loans are given to Senators and Representatives, not industrialists. 7. A country that gives loans in billions to agric sector without monitoring & evaluation of such loan on how it gets to the real farmers is a sham. A guy collected over N2 billion agric loan, he bought a Jeep, built a mansion, and use the rest to import processed pork. Meanwhile, local pork farmers are dying here. Is that not a double tragedy, stressing forex and at the same time killing local industries. 8. A country that spend more on a few privileged politicians at the expense of the populace who are unemployed should not talk about depreciation. A country that keeps paying NNPC staff N10 billion as salaries every month when a single drop of petrol was not refined should shut up about depreciation of currency. Crime is rising as value added to the initial failure. 9. A country where it is difficult for investors to register businesses because of the governent officials demanding for bribe. Right from airport, to hotel, to Minister to Governors, investors must give bribe. All these are part of cost of investment. A friend brought investor on estate development just for the State Commissioner in charge to demand 30% of the investment. To see the Governor of a state will cost you N2 million as bribe before you can be scheduled. This is a State as poor as anything. 10. A country where the cost of travelling for treatment abroad by officials will build world class hospitals should not talk about naira against dollar parity. Money taken to that trip is part of stress on forex. 11. A country where few people have access to federal reserve and those few can get loans, not because of what they can produce, but because of the connection they have - is that country not gone already? 12. A country where we import what we produce because it's cheaper over there is gone. 13. A country that has arable land, teaming idle youths and still complain of hunger should not talk about currency depreciation. It's annoying. 14. A country where free money flows can never control inflow and outflow of forex. Imagine someone who wants to hide his loot went to _bureau-de-change_ to buy dollars worth $50 million just to hide it in the basement of his house. That money has no economic value yet it deprives Companies that need it to import raw materials. Those Companies go to that same _bureau-de-change_ to buy forex at exorbitant price. 15. A country where a strong bank owner can influence shares from within Stock Exchange room to inflate their shares worth from N20 to N150, crash the same share to N30 and ready to buy it back at N28 all within a year. Forget it, currency will never appreciate in such economy. 16. A country where banks are involved in round tripping and inflated cost to siphon money is doomed. A Company wants to import caterpillar worths $50,000. A bank made the forex $550,000 meanwhile no caterpillar was imported, yet the money faded into private accounts. Who strain forex in that case? #COPIED FROM A WHATSAPP GROUP |

Good morning dear colleagues. These are increasingly tense and difficult times for all Nigerians regardless of their ethnicity, religion or creed. Nigeria being an integrated member of the international community, has not been immune or spared from the downward spiral of the economic fortunes of even the most advanced nations as a direct consequence of the ongoing Russia/Ukraine conflict. Things are really hard for millions of Nigerians struggling to survive. The unprecedented inflationary trend across the world has not spared Nigerians either. It has driven goods and services beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians. Nerves are on edge, compounded by rampant insecurity across the land. Human life has become unbelievably cheap. The socially environment is now also fully combustible. And to make matters worse, we are fast approaching another election year with all its inherent perils. Politicians are on the prowl, along with their often garrulous supporters eager to feed and take maximum advantage of the deepening frustration in the land by any means necessary. This is when the nation requires all men of good conscience, to raise up in its defence, by doing all they can to arrest our gradual decent into a Hobbesian state of anarchy. We must avoid sleepwalking onto the bloodied roads to Rwanda, with stops in Sierra Leone and Liberia. There's so much bile and propaganda in the air, often with scant regard for facts and accuracy of the content crudely distilled as the truth. There's an overwhelming tendency among even the most informed Nigerians to act, or be influenced by the falsehood they are regularly fed through the social media. The tragedy is that most tend to internalise the divisive propaganda for as long as it feeds or appeals to their inner prejudices. As educated people, we have the compelling responsibility to make a telling difference by exhibiting maximum restraint, and diligence, in the manner we digest or share viral content intended to cause more harm than good. Sadly, in a tragedy of monumental proportions, even in these difficult times, some elders cannot resist the temptation to act on impulse on matters of vital security concerns to our dear nation. And they have become a danger to us all because Nigerians are incredibly gullible by nature. As responsible citizens, the least we can do is to subject all unverified information and content forwarded to us to thorough fact-checks in the interest of peace and harmony. We must guard against the temptation to nourish our inner demons in the manner we react to slander, falsehood and abuse in the social media space by exercising maximum responsibility for the common good. It's the least we can do to create a fully functional nation of our dreams. Good day my country people |
